Phantom?s experience with Wikipedia
« on: August 04, 2006, 03:30:12 PM »
I recently submitted a large amount of info to Wikipedia on the subject of an old game known as: Illusion of Gaia only to have it changed for the most part. I spent a good deal of my last days of summer vacation working on that info and didn?t even have the sense to save it. I can basically remember what I wrote but it just kinda makes me mad that nearly all my info was changed, and for the most part, it was cut down to smaller parts. I had written biographies for each of the characters only to have them striped down to a paragraph of info. So the moral of the story is: DON?T SUBMIT THINGS TO WIKIPEDIA UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO HAVE THEM CHANGED!
Crazy, but that's how it goes.

While that is true, you always have the power to change back the page to the way you had it originally if you give a good enough reason. Just click the "history" tab on the page, find the version you made, then click the date, edit that page, copy the code, go back to the current page, edit the page, and paste the code. Easy as 1, 2, 3. Well, almost.

You can always explain your reasoning in the talk page, too.

Wow, thank you so much, I didn't even know that was possible.

I hate that game... I sold it to a used gamestore when i was younger so that i could buy Final Fantasy 3 AKA best game ever. However, i downloaded a rom of it onto my computer like a couple years ago and i started playing it again and i got farther than i did as a kid... I still lost interest though. :P

I realize I am a bit late replying, but this is absolutely unbelievable.  Who are these people and why do they care?  What?  Is the world going to end?  Is Dark Gaia going to attack?  Sheesh!  What a bunch of geeks!

This reminds me of a Wikipedia article I created about a growing sport that I, with the help of three friends, created. It was nominated for deletion less than three minutes after it was created.

Man, and I thought Wiki was bad. Don't even try creating an article on "Uncyclopedia". They wrote me up for vanity on a subject that doesn't even exist. I wasn't even writing about myself or an actual group.

Who the hell runs all of that?

Regarding problems on Wikipedia, I'm having a problem there now. On the Pokemon page, it claims this woman was a voice actor on the show. I know (via the credits) that she wasn't. So I deleted her from the list. Then some kid reverted my edit. I posted on his Talk Page asking him why he did it, and he said she was in one of the movies. I pulled out the movie, and again, she was nowhere to be found. I posted this info on his Talk Page, but he still refuses to give up. Now he's claiming she was uncredited.

It's not just this woman. There are several other voice actors he claims were in the movie (none are in the credits, by the way). He got all of this from IMDB, so I updated it with the correct info. The correct information should be up in a few weeks.

I can't stand problem users.

Amazing. They let that go, but if I post just a tad too much information, they are all up on my ass. What the hell is wrong with Wikipedia?

Yes, Wikipedia is sloppy with their editing.  I'm sure Kirk's birthplace will change back to Marion, Indiana once again.
