LOTHT Wild Jungle Edition

Season 2, Layout 2, Episode 25

(The camera moves through a mass of thick palm trees, revealing portions of an ancient mayan temple as a waterfall and animals are heard. The jungle ends, and Olmec is revealed)

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple!

(The camera shifts to the temple and its rooms as the pendant crashes together)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now.

(The pendant now splinters to reveal Kirk climbing out of the Jungle Crevice and running up the Steps of Knowledge)

Kirk: Thank you very much! Thank you! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle! The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Broken Skull of Saint Januarius!

Kirk: Ah, the Broken Skull of Saint Januarius! Well, the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the skull. Will it be The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They're going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec will tell us how they have to do it today.

Olmec: Before you stands a broken icefield that has made its way into the moat. When Kirk gives the signal, hop onto the first floating block. If it stays, you can move on to the next block, but if it sinks, or you fall into the Moat, you must go back and start again. When you hop off onto the deck, it'll be your partner's turn to cross the same way. When both players have reached the other side, run over and hit the gong!

(Kirk hits the Silver Snake?s gong to demonstrate)

Olmec: The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!

Kirk: Teams! Are you ready?

Teams: Yeeaaahhh!!!!

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?

Olmec: Let's rock.

Kirk: Alright! Teams! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Whoa, whoa, whoa! That was really close, guys! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes??and the Purple Parrots??and the Orange Iguanas??and the Red Jaguars! Blue Barracudas and Green Monkeys gave it a great effort too. They will not be going away empty handed though, here's what we have for them:

(The Blue Barracudas and Green Monkeys will each be receiving a $50 savings bond from the Willy Wonka Candy Factory)

Kirk: As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Broken Skull of Saint Januarius. But teams, pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: One of the most known saints was Saint Januarius of Italy. Legend has it, that he was so holy, that he could not be killed. Under the rule of the Emperor Diocletian, Janurius had to hide among fellow Christians in fear of being arrested. Eventually he was arrested, and was supposed to be cooked alive - but Janurius emerged from the oven uninjured. The emperor ordered him to be fed to hungry lions, but none of them would touch him.

Emperor: I don't understand it! He just can't be killed!

Olmec: Just then, a servant handed Emperor Diocletian an axe, and he beheaded Janurius, cracking off a part of his skull in the process. The rest of Saint Janurius' skull now rests in a museum, but the broken part made its way to the temple. You must find the Broken Skull of Saint Janurius and bring it back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, so tell us, where is the skull?

(Camera shows the skull, then zooms out to show its location)

Olmec: The Broken Skull of Saint Janurius can be found in the Anaconda's Sanctuary.

Kirk: Ooh, the Anaconda's Sanctuary! Teams, you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. If you're wrong or run out of time, I'm going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

1. Was Saint Janurius from...
Italy
Germany
Britain

2. According to our legend, was Saint Janurius sent to be eaten by...
Lions
Bears
Birds

3. Was Saint Janurius...
Jewish
Christian
Muslim

4. Which of these volcanos is said to stop erupting when Saint Janurius' skull is presented to it?
Mt. Vesuvius
Mt. Etna
Mt. Saint Helens

5. Which of these years did Mt. Vesuvius stop erupting when Saint Janurius' skull was taken out?
684
685
686

6. According to our legend, Saint Janurius was killed by being...
Hanged
Beheaded
Cooked

7. Who was the emperor to order Saint Janurius dead?
Emperor Diocletian
Emperor Augustus
Emperor Alexius

Kirk: We've got our two teams who are going the Temple Games! They are the Red Jaguars.....and the Orange Iguanas! The Silver Snakes and the Purple Parrots gave it a great effort too, and they are not going home empty handed. We got a great gift for both of them, and here it is.

(The Purple Parrots and the Silver Snakes will receive a $50 Toys 'R' Us gift card)

Kirk: These two teams are going to be playing for the rights to enter Olmec's Temple, right after this!

(Pendant Splits)

Kirk: You guys wanna play?

Teams: YEAH!

Kirk: Alright, go get ready for your games! In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. (Kirk holds up a pendant). The winning team will need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about the first temple game. Olmec?

Olmec: Christian churches often feature beautiful stained glass windows. Before you stands a church, and at the very top is a broken stained glass window with its pieces hidden in various rooms of the church. When Kirk gives the signal, climb up into the first room and grab a piece of the window. Then climb into the next room and do it again. When you reach the top, replace the missing pieces of the window. The first team to fix the window, or the team that's further along at the end of sixty seconds...wins!

Kirk: Ooh! We gotta fix that broken window! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Whoa! Okay, they both started putting together the window. Let's see, the Red Jaguars got in...four pieces, and the Orange Iguanas only manage to put in three, so the Red Jaguars are gonna get the half pendant of life! There's a chance for the Orange Iguanas to catch up in the next game, though! Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: When Saint Janurius' skull is waved at Mount Vesuvius, it is said to be a sort of sacrifice to the volcano. Now you must collect sacrifices of food for our own volcano. When Kirk gives the signal, crawl out to the first cube and grab a fruit. Then crawl back, put it in your bucket, and do it again. On your journeys, you must avoid the swinging obstacles. If you are hit, you must go back and start again. The first player to collect all four fruits, or the team that's further along at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Kirk: Alright, get ready. Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Whoa! Stop the clock! The Red Jaguars were awesome this round, they grabbed all four fruits! They're getting the half pendant of life. So now they have a one pednant, we're going to the third and final game. Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: Under the rule of the Emperor Diocletian, Christians were killed from all over Italy. When Kirk gives the signal, load your slingshot with a cannonball and shoot it at the statues in front of you. Then your partner will shoot a ball. The first team to knock down all four statues, or the team that's further along at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Kirk: Alright, this is going to be a little tricky because they have to load the slingshot quickly! Let's set the clock for sixty seconds!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Wow! The Orange Iguanas fought back, they won the full pendant! So now they each have a full pendant each, we have a tie! Let's bring out the tiebreaker pedestal!

(The spotters wheel in the tiebreaker pedestal)

Kirk: Okay, put your hands around the gong and I'll give you the tiebreaker rules. In a minute, Olmec's going to ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, hit the gong in front of you. If you're right, you and your partner will go into the temple in search of the Broken Skull of Saint Janurius. But if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll have to give the other team a chance to answer. All clear?

(The teams nod in response)

Kirk: Okay. Olmec, we are now ready for your final question.

Olmec: What happened when Saint Janurius was beheaded? Did he...

(The Orange Iguanas hit the gong)

Kirk: Orange Iguanas!

Orange Iguanas: Uhh...the axe broke the skull, and then the rest of the skull went to a museum, and the broken part is in the temple now, but...

Olmec: That is ABSOLUTELY correct!

Kirk: The Orange Iguanas are going to the temple!

(Cheers)

Kirk: Wow, they got the question right - what detail! The Red Jaguars did great too, they're not going away empty handed, here's a great gift we have for them:

(The Red Jaguars will be going home with a prize package from Regents Sports each)

Kirk: We'll see if the Orange Ja..I mean, Iguanas, can retrieve the Broken Skull of Saint Janurius - right after this!

(Camera pans to the spoon in the Chameleon Chamber)

(Pendant joins)

(Pendant Splits)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! The Orange Iguanas have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But before we get started, Olmec will give us some information on how to retrieve the Broken Skull of Saint Januarius.

Olmec: You could start by running up into the Room of the Tropicana Birds. Press down the correct beak, and pass into the Jungle Crevice. There, swing across, and climb into the Mouth of the Jaguar. Place the four fangs into the mouth, and you might descend into the Anaconda's Sanctuary, where you can grab the Broken Skull of Saint Januarius. Place the snake in the correct hole, and you could pass into the Vine Drop. There, you might climb down through the wall of plants, or pull the vines to enter the Shriiiiine...of the Siiiiilver Monkeeey! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Catfish Cove, where you could race down the Falls into the Secret Spring. You might plow through the stone wall into the Abandoned Camp, and break open the cage to find the key! Next, climb into the Tropical Forest. If you escape, you will gain entry to the Treasury of the Monkeys - and find the right bunch of bananas to release the doors. Then, crawl through the Jungle Crevice, climb through the Mining Chamber, race down the stairs on back through the temple gates! The choices are yours and yours alone. You won one pendant in the temple games. Who's going first?

Stephen: I am!

Olmec: Very well, Stephen! When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple, and make your way towards the Broken Skull of Saint Januarius. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on but if you're caught without a pendant, you'll be taken out of the temple...and it will be Jennifer's turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the Broken Skull, all the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gate with the Broken Skull of Saint Januarius in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded - and here's how!

Dee: For just going into the temple, you'll each be getting a sports package from Regent Sports! Whether it's basketball, soccer, baseball or volleyball, Regent is the name in games! If you grab the Broken Skull before three minutes is up, you'll also receive camping gear provided by Outdoor Products! And if you bring the Broken Skull out of the temple before three minutes is up, you'll be going to Cancun! You'll be staying at Kyrstal Cancun, the resort for beach lovers. With excursions to the Mayan ruins. It's rich in history and rich in pleasure! From Kyrstal Cancun.

Kirk: Kyrstal Cancun! I know they wanna go there, I do too! Olmec, let's lower the gate.

(Olmec moans as the gate lowers, and the lights switch off as he stops humming)

Kirk:Let's put three minutes on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: Alright! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Stephen runs up the temple steps and then down into the Mining Chamber. He hits the actuator of the lower crawl tube to the Jungle Crevice and opens the door with 2:47 left - right as a delayed TEMPLE GUARD jumps out from behind him!)

(He tosses a pendant into the darkness of the Mining Chamber's temple guard hiding area, then carries on downwards to the Jungle Crevice. He hits the actuator of the Treasury of the Monkeys, and opens the door with 2:33)

(He climbs up the ladder quickly and grabs all three bunches of bananas. "He's got to find the right bunch," says Kirk, as Stephen throws the first bunch off the altar after it didn't work. The second bunch lights the altar up however, and the monkey's scream startles him for a moment as the door opens with 2:15 left)

("He's gonna head into the Tropical Forest," comments Kirk, as Stephen jumps into the swampy ambiance - just as the second TEMPLE GUARD captures him with 2:02 on the clock)

(Jennifer quickly slides down into the Mining Chamber, and crawls through the room and down to the Jungle Crevice with 1:53. She then races right through the Treasury of the Monkeys and into the Tropical Forest with 1:36 remaining)

(She then opens the door up to the Abandoned Camp and climbs her way into the room, breaks open the central cage with the bottom of her fist, and grabs the key - opening the door upwards to the Shrine with 1:20 left on the clock)

(She climbs the ladder slowly but surely, and finally emerges from the small opening between the "cabinet" doors. Grabbing two pieces of the monkey, she places the base and middle without much mishap. However, she stumbles with the head, jamming it down in the wrong direction)

("TURN THE HEAD AROUND!" Jennifer heeds Kirk's advice, jams the head down correctly, and opens the door to the Vine Drop with 0:58 on the clock)

(She runs into the Vine Drop and immediately tugs down on two vines. Only the door to the Mouth of the Jaguar opens, so she takes the path up to the last room before the artfiact, and grabs a fang to place it in the mouth with 0:48 left on the clock)

(Jennifer grabs another fang, and has a little difficulty getting in the right position. Then she does the same for the remaining two at a slower speed, as she's clearly beginning to show her tiredness. However, the door to the Anaconda's Sanctuary slides open with 0:30 left!)

(She climbs quickly down the ladder, and runs to the front of the room to grab the BROKEN SKULL with 0:23 remaining! Immediately, she starts her mad dash for the Jungle Crevice - but is delayed by the crawl space. By the time she reaches the top of the room, there's only 15 seconds on the clock!!)

(She grabs for the vine, but misses. Jennifer, clearly extremely tired, does one last swipe at it, and catches it in her hand! She pulls it across to her - with 11 seconds on the clock!)

(Swinging across the gap, she hears the excited countdown of the audience - "EIGHT! SEVEN! SIX!" Running through the Room of the Tropicana Birds, the camera shows her running behind Olmec....)

("THREE! TWO ONE!" A shadow of Jennifer appears on the studio floor, and Jennifer jumps clear past Olmec's gate to record a one-second win, and lands in the arms of Kirk and Stephen as the clock reaches zero and disappears from the screen!)

Kirk: SHE MADE IT! SHE MADE IT! They got it all folks! They did it all! They get the sports package, the camping gear - THEY'RE GOING TO MEXICO, YES!! Jennifer's tired, I'm tired! We all gotta go - see you next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle style! Buh-bye!

(Credits scroll as the camera pans to the completed Silver Monkey, with extra fog spewing out)

Dee Baker: Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle was recorded in front of a live studio audience, in Universal Studios Florida.

Wild Jungle EP: The Broken Skull of Saint Januarius
« Reply #4 on: June 07, 2009, 06:01:05 AM »
Artifact Name: The Broken Skull of Saint Januarius
Location: The Anaconda's Sanctuary
Result: Made it!
Time Remaining: 0:01
Pendants Won: 1
Diagram:

Summary:

You can't help but love a close, exciting win that features excellent camerawork to keep you on the edge of your seats, rocking back and forth! With that said, I think you can tell how exciting this temple run was.

Stephen and Jennifer were both average players, and Jennifer seemed to have a pretty bad stamina, which made the run even more exciting and leaving us in more suspense. The team took a good decision and used the shortcut (the Shrine/Camp passage) to help them to the artifact. Jennifer really slowed down in the later part of the run, like in the Mouth of the Jaguar and during the crossing of the Jungle Crevice. But it all finished with a well-deserved one-second win!

Trivia

~ The episode's pre-run footage featured a rare point-of-view shot of a person going down the Falls
~ Throughout the second temple game, the skull can be seen in the Anaconda's Sancturary
~ This is the first episode to feature a completely cut-out player interview incident, meaning that we don't even know the players' names (at least the Red Jaguars' names)
~ This is the first one-second win to feature a player exiting from the upper exit

The players don't wear nametags, I take it? (A similar cut happened in "The Lion-Slashed Jacket of Sacagawea," but looking at the shirts could still tell you the Orange Iguanas were Kendall and Aaron.)
