LOTHT Wild Jungle Edition

Season 1, Layout 5, Episode 20

(The camera zooms in on an ancient lush jungle, the palms are moving away as an elephant is heard. All the palms are gone, showing Olmec)

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle

(The camera shifts to the temple and its rooms)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now.

(Kirk is seen coming down the steps of the temple)

Kirk: Thank you, thank you! It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Propeller of Jimmy Angel's Plane.

Kirk: Oh, the legend of Jimmy Angel's Plane! Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Journal! Will it be The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They're going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and here's how they're gonna have to do it today.

One player from each team is standing on a platform that is attached to an ancient rope above them by a pole. When I say go, the player will pull themselves across the water using the rope. When the player steps onto the deck, her partner will pull the platform in and cross the exact same way. Once the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here, and hit the gong! (Kirk hits the Red Jaguars' gong) The first four teams to hit their gongs go on to the next round. Hey teams, are you ready?

Teams: Yeeaaahhh!!!!

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?

Olmec: Ohhhhh yeah!

Kirk: On your marks, get set, go!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: We've got our four teams! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Green Monkeys....and the Orange Iguanas....and the Purple Parrots.....and the Silver Snakes! Red Jaguars and Blue Barracudas gave it a great effort too. They will not be going away empty handed though, here's what we have for them:

(The Silver Snakes and Orange Iguanas will each be receiving a copy of Guitar Hero World Tour for the Nintendo DS each)

Kirk: As we continue our quest, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the The Propeller of Jimmy Angel's Plane. But teams, pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: The tallest waterfall in the world is Angel Falls in Venezuela. Standing more than 3000 feet above the ground, the water has to fall such a long way that it never hits the ground - it evaporates before it can. But the falls got their name from Jimmy Angel who flew over the falls in 1933 while searching for an ore bed. However, instead he found the falls and to get a closer look, legend has it that he nosedived and crash-landed right beside the waterfall! Angel Falls became one of the most famous waterfalls in the world, but Jimmy Angel's legendary aircraft was dismantled and its propeller made its way to the temple. Your quest is to retrieve the Propeller of Jimmy Angel's Plane and bring it back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, so tell us, where is the propeller?

(Camera shows the propeller, then zooms out to show its location)

Olmec: The Propeller of Jimmy Angel's Plane can be found in the Sacred Safari.

Kirk: OK, Olmec. Teams, you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about the legend you just heard. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're first, your step will light up. Go ahead, stomp down!

(Purple stomps down first)

Kirk: Alright, Purple Parrots - you rang in first, so you have to answer the question. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. If you're wrong or run out of time, I'm going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

1. The tallest waterfall in the world is....
Angel Falls
Niagara Falls
Yosemite Falls

2. Who found the waterfall?
Rick Angel
Jimmy Angel
Sanders Angel

3. Did Jimmy Angel find the falls in...
An aircraft
A train
A motorbike

4. Was Jimmy's original intention to....
Search for a cave
Search for a gold mine
Search for an ore bed

5. Did Jimmy Angel....
Nosedive into the waterfall
Stall and crash into the waterfall
Crash into the cliff face

6. Do the falls flow into....
The Kerep River
The Mississippi River
The Amazon River

Kirk: We've got our two teams who are going the Temple Games! They are the Orange Iguanas and the Purple Parrots! The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes gave it a great effort too, and they are not going home empty handed. We got a cool prize for both of them, and here it is.

(The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes will be going home with a pair of Nike Airwalk shoes each)

Kirk: These two teams are playing for the rights to enter Olmec's Temple, right after this!

(Pendant Splits)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let's give it up for Miles and Casey of the Orange Iguanas, and Mike and Amanda of the Purple Parrots!

(Applause)

Kirk: Why don't you teams go and get ready for your games, and I'll explain what's going to happen here. In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. (Kirk holds up a pendant). They need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and here is temple game #1:

Ore was very popular and valuable in the times of Jimmy Angels. Here we have laid out some ore for you to find and bring back to your home country. When I say go, you're going to make your way out and grab a piece of ore from the end and return and put it in your bin. Watch out for the swinging obstacles - if you are hit, you must drop your item and start over! The first player to retrieve all six pieces of ore, or the player that's further along at the end of sixty seconds wins!

These guys are going to be rich....maybe! Well, we'll see. Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, go!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Time is up! Let's count up. The Orange Iguanas got 1...2...3 pieces of ore, and the Purple Parrots got one...two...three....four....five pieces of ore! The Purple Parrots get the half pendant of life! The next game is also worth a half pendant, and here it is:

Angel Falls plunges right over the top of a sharp, steep cliff. In front of you stands that cliff. When I say go, push in one of the blocks to create a handhold or foothold and climb up. When you reach the top, grab the hanger and ride down. The first player to land both feet on the ground, or the player that's further along at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Some climbing to do! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Ohhh! The Orange Mon...Iguanas got down first, so they get the half pendant of life. It's all tied up now! The third and final game is worth a full pendant and here it is:

Jimmy Angel needed to climb to the top of Angel Falls to get a really good view of them. You need to do the same. When I say go, climb the first large step then help your partner up. The first team to reach the top of the three steps wins!

Got climbing to do! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: The Purple Parrots reached the top first! So they get the full pendant of life! So now they have one and a half pendants, the Orange Iguanas have a half, the Purple Parrots are going to the temple!

(Cheers)

Kirk: The Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort too, and here's a cool prize they're gonna take home:

(The Purple Parrots will be going home with a $50 Nestle Savings Bond)

Kirk: Let's see if the Green Monkeys will retrieve the Propeller of Jimmy Angel's Plane, right after this!

(Camera pans to the Mouth of the Jaguar's stone slab door leading to the Pit of the Fallen Logs)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. The Purple Parrots have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But before we get started, Olmec will give us some information on how to retrieve the Propeller of Jimmy Angel's Plane!

Olmec: You could start by running to the Room of the Three Gargoyles. Push in the right tongue, and pass into the Pit of the Fallen Logs. Next, climb into the Mouth of the Jaguar. Place the four fangs into their right places in the mouth, then descend into the Room of the Boulders, and pass into the Lush Opening. If the door unlocks below, you could climb down through the plant wall, or, try to enter the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue there, and you may be headed for the Forest Fire Room. Pull down on the burnt palms to open the door to the Wild Whirlpool. Slide down the tunnel, and plow through the stone wall into the Sacred Safari, where you can grab the Propeller of Jimmy Angel's Plane. Find the key, but beware--the elephants may be temple guards in disguise. Next, climb into the Tropical Forest. Wade through the room, and you will enter the Chameleon Chamber. Change the color of the correct chameleon to release the doors. Then, you can crawl through the Pit and through the Mining Chamber, back to the temple gates. The choices are yours and yours alone. Good luck!

Kirk: Okay, you guys won one and a half pendants in the temple games, and here they are. Now, who's going first?

Mike: I am!

Kirk: Right, when I say go, you will race through the gates into the temple and you'll make your way towards the Propeller. But be careful?the Temple has many locked doors and dead ends. Also hidden in the Temple there are also Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. If you enter one of those rooms, a Temple Guard will jump out and grab you. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Amanda's turn to enter and try her luck. Hidden in the temple is the other half pendant. When you find it, you can complete your pendant and you will earn an extra life. If you can reach the Propeller, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. You'll have three minutes, and for your efforts you will both be handsomely rewarded?and here's how!

Dee: For just going into the temple, you'll each be getting a sports package from Regent Sports. If you grab the Journal before three minutes is up, you'll also be getting a $500 savings bond from Sketchers, makers of exciting and cool shoes! From Sketchers. And if you bring the Journal of the temple before three minutes is up, you'll be going to the Bahamas! And you'll be staying at the Bahamas Princess Resort, complete with lots of fun and world-class family entertainment! From Bahamas Princess Resort!

Kirk: Let's see if they can pick up all that great stuff! Let's get in position here, mouthpieces in! Let's set the clock for three minutes!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!!!

(Mike races into the Mining Chamber and maneuvers his way up the ledges until he hits the actuator to the upper door to the Pit of the Fallen Logs with 2:45 left)

(He jumps down into the Pit and hits the actuator to the Chameleon Chamber - but it won't open! He keeps hitting it, then slides the door downwards and it opens - with 2:33 left!)

(Mike slides down quickly, making up for lost time, but out pops the first TEMPLE GUARD! Startled, he hands over the pendant and signals the half pendant on the actuator on one of the chameleons)

(He hits three actuators, then lights up Purple on thye fourth try with 2:21 left!)

(Both doors open, and Mike quickly advances into the Tropical Forest with 2:15 remaining. But then, the second TEMPLE GUARD jumps out, and Kirk urges Amanda quickly into the temple)

(Amanda heads through the Mining Chamber and down into the Pit in a flash - with exactly 2 minutes remaining! "Still lots of time," comments Kirk, "this is a fast team!")

(She grabs the half pendant off the actuator, then quickly rushes into the Tropical Forest with 1:46 left on the clock)

(She heads toward the door of the Sacred Safari first, but then quickly climbs up to the Lush Opening with 1:39)

(Amanda gets a little lost, and hits the actuator to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey first, stalls, then enters the room to meet the last temple guard. She throws the pendants at him, then grabs the middle of the monkey!)

(Going back for the base, she correctly places the two pieces on with 1:14. Jamming the head down, it slips and turns, but she quickly rotates it back and with a bang, opens the doors to the Forest Fire Room and the Wild Whirlpool with 1:02)

(Amanda quickly picks the route to the Forest Fire Room, pulls down the palms, and races right down the slide to the Wild Whirlpool with 0:55. Busting down the wall, she makes a grab for the PROPELLER with 0:49 remaining!)

("Oh my," says Kirk, "she's gotta move, move, move!" as Amanda quickly nosedives into the Tropical Forest with 0:44. Wading her way into the Chameleon Chamber, she stumbles a bit but crawls as fast as she can right to the Pit of the Fallen Logs with 0:25 left on the clock!)

("It's gonna be close!" says Kirk, as she slides down the rock wall on the outside of the temple, down, out of the Mining Chamber with 0:14 and crosses the gate with 11 seconds to go!)

Kirk: SHE DID IT! SHE DID IT! THEY DID IT! I loved the Purple Parrots all the way, and they did it! They got the propeller! We've got to get outta here now, and even though I don't wanna go, we'll see you next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle style! Buh-bye!

(Credits scroll as the camera pans to the Safari-Shrine open door)

Olmec: Hmmmmmm....

Artifact Name: The Propeller of Jimmy Angel's Plane
Location: The Sacred Safari
Season: 1
Layout: 5
Result: Won!
Time Remaining: 0:11

Diagram:

Summary:

This was an excellent and well-deserved Purple Parrots team victory. I loved the team from start to end! I thought Mike might have been less smart because he went into the Tropical Forest, but looking at the diagram, they MIGHT have been forced up the central shaft if they didn't go there. Anyway, the team was fast, and Amanda brought the gigantic artifact across the gate with 11 seconds to go!

Trivia
~In the temple rundown, you can clearly see the Journal of Lewis and Clark in the Mouth of the Jaguar, although it was in the corner of the room instead of in the mouth itself, during that temple run
~It's interesting how Amanda literally "nosedived" into the Tropical Forest on her way out, while the legend describes a plane crash
