Kirk is now standing between the Silver Snakes and the Purple Parrots in front of the Crystal Cave. ?Welcome back to Legends!? he says. ?Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s get to know our team players.? He turns to the camera-left talk to the girl on the Silver Snakes, a cute but short brunette with brown eyes. ?On the Silver Snakes, we have Sara. How old are you??
?Eleven,? replies Sara.
?Now I understand you like to collect seashells,? Kirk reads off the index card. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? explains Sara, ?I go to beaches a lot? I have? maybe a hundred shells.? She smiles.
?You have a favorite?? asks Kirk.
?Yeah,? Sara answers, ?it?s this pink shell that?s all? spirally?? She laughs.
?All right, very nice,? Kirk says as he goes to interview the boy on the far right of the screen, who has average-length dark hair and brown eyes. ?And Norman, how old are you??
?Thirteen,? he replies.
?Now, I understand you do magic tricks,? Kirk reads, his eyes opening a little wider as he finishes the sentence. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well, I?m into guys like Criss Angel and Dynamo,? Norman explains, ?and I just do some basic tricks I figured out from them. Example: I figured out this one trick Dynamo does where he takes his necklace, and uses it to pull a mint he?s choking on? out of his throat.?
Kirk tries to avoid showing a freaked-out expression. ?Can you show me how to do it in case I need it?? he asks finally.
?Sorry, a magician never reveals his secrets,? replies Norman with a smile.
?Guess I?m on my own, huh?? Kirk laughs. ?Let?s hear it for the Silver Snakes!? The audience applauds, and Kirk turns toward the right side of the screen to talk to the girl on the Purple Parrots, who has reddish hair and blue eyes. ?And on the Purple Parrots, we have Selina. How old are you??
?Thirteen,? she replies.
?And I understand you like music,? Kirk says. ?Do you play anything??
?Yeah, I play violin,? Selina answers.
?Now, not a lot of people play violin,? Kirk notes, ?but would you say it?s harder than guitar??
?I don?t think so,? replies Selina.
?All right,? Kirk says, moving to talk to the boy on the far right of the screen, who has dark brown hair and green eyes. ?And Jake, how old are you??
?Twelve,? answers Jake.
?And I understand you play football,? Kirk says. ?Tell me about that.?
?Um? it?s just with friends on the weekends,? Jake explains, ?but I play every Saturday and Sunday. Usually a wide receiver.?
?You like to watch football on TV too?? asks Kirk.
?Yeah,? Jake replies. ?Love the Pats.?
?He?s a fan of the Pats,? Kirk repeats. ?Let?s hear it for the Purple Parrots!? Jake and Selina clap along with the audience.
?You guys ready to play?? asks Kirk.
?YEAH!? The players shout as a reply.
?All right! Go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says, and the players walk offscreen. ?In the Temple Games, each team will be competing for these?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life. The winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple. There are three Temple Games. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #1.?
Olmec begins:
?The Gentleman Bushranger was recognizable throughout Australia, so he sometimes had to be very sneaky with getting around. In this game, you must take an indirect route through the Australian forest with a torch for light. When Kirk gives the signal, put your torch behind your head and make your way through the forest. Whenever you come to two branches, you must find a way to maneuver between or around them, keeping your torch behind your head and both of your hands on it.
?The first player to leave the forest? or the player that?s closest to the end after 60 seconds wins.?
The camera segues to Kirk. ?The forests look just like this in Australia, too,? he says. ?Not. Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? A countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Jake and Norman take off and go into their respective forests. Both players move swiftly, but while Jake is slightly faster than Norman, he noticeably takes a few wrong turns. After twenty seconds, both players are close to the end, but Jake makes a costly wrong turn and can?t seem to get out. Norman pulls ahead until he?s out of the forest with an impressive 34 seconds still on the countdown clock.
?That?s it! That was fast!? Kirk announces, running over. He puts his hand on Norman?s shoulder and talking directly to him. ?Silver Snakes, you pulled it out so fast! You get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?Purple Parrots can catch up in the next Temple Game, it?s worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.?
Olmec continues:
?According to our legend, when Governor Arthur put up wanted posters looking for the Gentleman Bushranger, the Gentleman Bushranger? with some help from Corinne? made wanted posters of Governor Arthur. In this game, you will make one last wanted poster. When Kirk gives the signal, crawl to the first cube, grab one of the poster quadrants, then crawl back with it and place it on the proper space on the board. Then, go back to get the next quadrant. Along the way you must try to avoid the swinging obstacles. If you?re hit, you?ll have to go back and start again.?
?The first player to complete the wanted poster? or the player that?s further along after 60 seconds? wins!?
The camera fades to Kirk. ?It?s speed drawing,? he says. ?Let?s get the sandbags back in position and start swinging them.? The spotters do just that. ?And now let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set, GO!?
The game starts off with Selina immediately taking a lead over Sara, who sits back and waits for the opportunity to go on. Selina grabs the first quadrant of her poster only four seconds in and comes back with it another four seconds later; Sara is only grabbing her first quadrant at that time. She comes back with it with :46 remaining, while Selina is already heading back with her second. When Selina places her second quadrant in the proper place on the board, Sara is only just starting out for her second.
?This game takes some careful timing,? Kirk comments. ?It?s not easy, but the Purple Parrots are leading it.? As Selina reaches her third quadrant with :36 left, Sara is hit by a sandbag and has to start over. However, the same happens to Selina as she tries to make her way back, and the third quadrant is returned to the cube it was placed on. Once they start up again, both players reach their next poster quadrants with 22 seconds on the clock and try to head back. Having to travel less, Sara actually makes it back with her second quadrant with :16 left, right before Selina can put her third quadrant on the board. The players head out one more time; Sara reaches her third quadrant with just four seconds left and can?t bring it back in time, but Selina is hit by a sandbag on her way to the last quadrant. Time ends shortly after, indicated by a flashing pattern of ceiling spotlights.
?That?s it, time?s up!? Kirk says, appearing onscreen and going over to count the scores. ?C?mon over here!? Selina and Sara join Kirk. ?Silver Snakes got half the poster before time ended, but Purple Parrots got three-quarters of the poster, giving them the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds again. ?So it?s all tied up a half a Pendant, we go to the third and final game worth a full Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3.?
Olmec narrates:
?As a famous outlaw, the Gentleman Bushranger had a lot of enemies. In this game, you must take his role and fight against the four officers on the wall. When Kirk gives the signal, lob a cannonball at one of the officers. Then you partner will place a cannonball in the slingshot and aim at the officers. You?ll keep alternating like this.
?The first team to knock down all four officers? or the team who?s knocked over the most officers in 60 seconds? wins.?
?It?s all tied up, a half Pendant apiece,? Kirk reminds the audience. ?This is for the Temple Run. Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears onscreen, and Kirk steps to the side to avoid getting hit. ?On your marks, get set, GO!?
?Bombs away!? The game starts with the girls taking aim. Neither hit the targets, but when the boys take over for the first time, Norman knocks over the rightmost target for the Silver Snakes with :54 left. Though the players come close several times, that?s the only hit for a while; with :39 left on the clock, Sara knocks down the leftmost target on her fourth try overall.
?These teams are tough, they won?t go down without a fight,? Kirk comments as the Temple Game approaches its latter half. With :31 remaining, Selina knocks down the second-from-left target for the Purple Parrots on her fifth attempt. With :15 on the clock, she strikes the second-from-right Purple Parrot target? only for it to not fall over. With six seconds left, however, Jake knocks over the rightmost Purple Parrot target. In the last seconds, neither team successfully knocks down a third target; when time runs out, the ceiling spotlights flash to indicate time is up.
?All right, time?s up guys!? Kirk announces; Sara ends up launching one more ball before she realizes time is up, and even though it knocks over the left-center target, it?s not in time. ?That one didn?t count, so both teams got two targets. It?s a tie! Bring out the tiebreaker podiums!?
?Okay, just stand behind there, Purple over there, Silver over there,? Kirk says, and the players follow Kirk?s gestures and stand behind the pedestals. ?Here?s the tiebreaker rules. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, hit the gong in front of you. You?ll have three seconds to answer and I must accept your first response. If you?re right, you and your partner will be going inside the Temple in search of the Wanted Poster of the Gentleman Bushranger, but if you?re wrong or you run out of time, I'll give the other team a chance. All clear?"
The players nod in response.
"Olmec!" Kirk shouts. "We?re ready for your final question!?
Olmec asks:
?Is the capital of Australia???
Jake hits the gong first: ?Sydney???
?That is incorrect,? replies Olmec, and the Purple Parrots visibly groan.
?All right,? says Kirk. ?Silver Snakes??? He holds the microphone up to the Silver Snakes.
?Can he finish the question?? asks Norman.
?Olmec, finish the question,? Kirk requests.
?Is the capital of Australia: Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra?? repeats Olmec.
?Canberra??? guesses Norman.
After a pause, Olmec replies:
?THAT IS CORRECT!?
?The Silver Snakes got it!? Kirk announces as Norman and Sara hug and jump up and down, spinning in a bit of a circle as they do so. ?They?re going to the Temple!? Kirk then calls Jake and Selina over. ?The Purple Parrots gave it a great effort too. We got a great gift for them and here?s what it is.? Jake and Selina will each be receiving a copy of How To Eat Fried Worms on DVD.
The camera cuts back to Kirk standing with the Silver Snakes behind the tiebreaker pedestal. ?The Silver Snakes broke the tie, and now we?ll see if they can retrieve that Wanted Poster of the Gentleman Bushranger,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera makes a first-person run down the stairs leaving the Laser Light Room, through the Knights? Barracks and stops at the Wanted Poster in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey before fading to commercial.
