The Steps of Knowledge / A few thoughts
« on: May 17, 2010, 06:58:07 PM »
Hello everybody, PhantomBPR here, it's been a while, I know.

This isn't really an announcement or any big news, but I had a few things on my mind.

First of all, congratulations everyone for getting through another year of school, they're always hell on the forum. This year however, I am very happy to see that the forum managed to stay alive well through winter right into summer. Usually we have a big remission in between, but this time it looks like we did just fine.

Let me also apologize for being absent, as I usually am during the school year. But things are winding down now with summer starting so I'll plan to be around more often.

So I've been thinking about the forum a little bit lately and I am very happy to see that it is still around. When I first started Phantom's Temple back in late 2005 early 2006 I never expected it to be around for five years, but we'll be reaching that point this year.

I'm glad to see that the forum has developed vitality and community within itself, and by that I mean I don't have to get on everyday and demand that people post, you guys have developed into your own society and that was one of my main dreams from the very start of this project.

So, I'm back again to ask you the age old question.

What would you guys like next?

There are a lot of different directions we can go in, and we've been talking about it for years now. Legends fandom isn't that big right now as it was a few years back when people were starting to get back into retro 90's shows, but we seem to be doing pretty well. We aren't a large forum, but we do well for ourselves and have created a stable community.

So things seem to be doing pretty good right now. My one question is, what would you guys like to see next?

Again, thank you guys so much for being so loyal to the forum, as I've always said:

"I fucking love you guys"

And if you just have any thoughts in general, feel free to post them.

The Treasure Room / The 7th Contest: A New Perception of Legends

CONTEST CLOSED.

The Steps of Knowledge / The 7th Contest
« on: August 13, 2009, 09:01:52 PM »
With an influx of new members this summer, it?s high time we recognize a new Legends God and add them to the ranks of the Golden Idols. In the past we have had several contests that call for one to show their ability to use the knowledge of Legends to create a new take on the show.
And this contest is no different.

However, this time around, whether you all realize it or not, it was those of you who have contributed to the Treasure Room who have inspired my vision for our 7th contest.

We have seen many new forms of Legends of the Hidden Temple via the fan-fiction our members have posted. From The Bamboo Forest?s ?Wild Jungle? Edition, to Red Jaguars Fan?s new ?Legends Evolved?, we have seen that there is a plethora of ways to take the Legends format and transform it to fit a completely different perception.

With this in mind, I have devised what just may be our boldest contest yet. Nay, this is more than a contest, this is a challenge that I place before you. The winner of this contest will truly deserve the rank of ?Recognized Legends God?.

I challenge you to take Legends of the Hidden Temple and re-design it with a completely new theme that has never been thought of before.

There are no rules to how you create your own vision of Legends or what you plan to concentrate on, but the one stipulation is that you stick to the format:  Moat, Steps, Games, Temple.  Now by that, I am not saying that you have to explain how you would revolutionize every aspect of Legends, what I am saying is that you cannot take anything away from the format that is already in place.

Add.

Do not subtract.

On that note, may I remind you of The 49th Ronin?s creative work ?Legends of the Cable Box? in which a moat would not work for his design so instead he replaced it with ?The Transmitter?.

http://phantomsden.6.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=277

You can change the design to fit your theme, but stick to the 4 event process of race round, questions round, game round, and temple round, and from there you may work to create your vision.

Other than that, your goal is to come up with a theme (it can be anything at all that has not yet been used on Phantom?s Temple) that will give a completely different spin on Legends of the Hidden Temple.

You may do this in a variety of ways. You could choose to submit a completely new layout of temple rooms. You could choose to submit a new style of Legends such as the ?Wild Jungle?, there are multiple ways to go about this.

I am looking for creative submissions that will turn heads and provide a very ?out there? perception of The Legends format.

Because this contest calls for more work than some of our previous contests and several questions will most likely be asked, I am not setting a deadline for the contest just yet, and when I do, it will give you adequate time to design your submission.

Good Luck everyone.

This could completely change the way we look at Legends for years to come.

The Steps of Knowledge / The 4th Anniversary
« on: August 13, 2009, 08:03:54 PM »
Good morning Phantom?s Temple! It?s now August 14th 2009, and this marks the 4th year anniversary of Phantom?s Temple. God, four years, has it really been that long? I?ll tell you right now, Phantom?s Temple holds a special place in my life and it?s been interesting to see it grow as I have, but enough about my personal life.

I established this forum in 2005 as I was entering the 9th grade. It?s four years later, I?m now a high school graduate, and the forum is still going strong.

It all started as a humble (and somewhat immature) dream. I had seen many forums cast their members down for things as small as posting random-off topic threads. I wanted to create a forum where one would have no reason to fear posting something completely random or chaotic, but rather encouraged it.

After experimenting with the idea of a video game forum title ?Phantom?s Den?, in the summer of 2006, after rediscovering Legends of the Hidden Temple through downloads, I pitched the idea to Ed for a Legends related forum. To this day I still owe a huge debt of gratitude to Ed, as he accepted the idea and placed a link on The King?s Storeroom. It?s been a long four years and we?ve been through a few rough periods, but we?re still going.

And so is my original vision of randomness freedom in the form of The Jester's Court.

We may not be the biggest forum out there or the most famous fan base, but we?ve got a good community here and a strong friendship among all our members. I know I say it all the time, but seriously guys, thanks. Phantom?s Temple would be nothing without your continued support.

And now, a big announcement. Yes, it?s that time again. I know it seems like we just had our last one but I would like to announce that in celebration of the 4th anniversary, we will now hold our 7th contest!
(More information to come in a separate thread)

Once again everybody, it?s been a great 4 years, and as an Admin, I could not ask for a better group of members.

You guys are fucking awesome.

The Dark Forest / CN Real.....oh yeah....it's real
« on: August 10, 2009, 01:00:01 PM »
Quote from: ""Renegade Pancake""
Hell, Cartoon Network has expanded its programming to "Cartoon Live".  They are now airing non-cartoons in order to compete with Disney; they're the largest threat to other networks in this program.

Really now. I don't think Cartoon Network could have stooped any lower.

The entire reason for its existence is to show CARTOONS. I mean it was one thing to show reruns of Saved by the bell or PeeWee's play house on Adult Swim, but that was in a satirical sense. This is just outrageous.

So the other day, I decided to sit down and actually watch a few of their "Real" shows, just so I could have an honest opinion.

So Brainrush wasn't too bad, it's nice to see an attempt at a kid's game show (even if it lacks creativity). It's fun to watch maybe once or twice, but I can't exactly see myself running home to catch kids shouting random answers out to trivia questions at 75 mph. It almost has a staged feel to it, almost as if the players rehearsed how they would answer the questions while on the roller coasters.

Survive This is a sad attempt at reality TV for kids. There is not a damn thing "Real" about this show. I don't really remember much about the episode I watched (I was watching it inbetween commercials during a Michael Jackson biography) but it doesn't really seem to serve as anything beyond watching kids bitch and moan in the forest, or watching smug boy scout motherfuckers act like they could live inside a volcano. It's just bullshit.

The Othersiders.....I'm not even sure if there is anything I can say about this. Ghost hunting programs are pretty lame to begin with.....but this is just awful. And to think that they could be showing Teen Titans in this time slate, but no, we've got to compete with the larger networks, let's show a bunch of kids running around a sound stage with a nightvision lense on the camera.

What can I say about Destroy Build Destroy? I suppose it's my favorite out of all of the "Real" shows. The competition is just slightly interesting, and they seem to combine game play and mechanics into one show. Sort of like Guts meets Robot Wars meets Extreme Home Make Over. It's always interesting to see something explode. Beyond that, there's nothing really special about this show, and I can see it getting old very fast. There really is only one reason I like this show

LET'S GET A PARTY GOING!

You know. If Cartoon Network really wanted to bring live actors and kids into their programing block, they could have tried the segment they used with Friday's a few years back inwhich Cartoons were HOSTED by live actors.

If they really wanted to they could even evolve it into a sort of Slime Time or Upick style. That would have been 10 times better than this.....joke.

The Jesters' Court / I'm feeling it's time for a change anyway
« on: July 12, 2009, 08:36:06 PM »
Well I've had this avatar since late 2006.

It's nothing special, just the Mercenaries 2 symbol edited to represent the forum name. I liked the fact that the skull kinda looked "phantom-ish"

It has nothing to do with Legends at all.

I'm thinking about getting a new one.

Mercenaries 2 wasn't exactly that great.

The Dark Forest / College Major
« on: July 08, 2009, 02:54:15 PM »
Since we're on the topic of school.

What do you want to
What are you currently
or what did you

choose to major in, in college.

I'm not going to declare a major for my first two years (mostly just to get the basic classes out of the way so I can get my Associates Degree and have all the transfer credits I need) so I'll have time to change my mind if I decide to.

Currently I am planning on majoring in Mass Communications with an emphasis in broadcast.

What about you guys?

The Steps of Knowledge / Contest #6: Forum Title Vote
« on: June 28, 2009, 08:51:56 PM »
So after a short discussion with the mods, we have decided that we are going to extend the Offtopic game show forum (Currently known as the Ice Crag) to a broader spectrum of all Nickelodeon game shows, past and present. This might get a few new ideas for topics going.

Now then, for our cross over to a new topic for the Ice Crag, the time has come to change the name.

In the past, the mods and I have held contests and judged submissions, but this time we're giving the power you guys, our loyal members.

Thanks as always for your continued use and support of Phantom's Temple.

The Heart Room / In Retrospect
« on: May 03, 2009, 02:38:39 PM »
All right, we may have mentioned this before, and if we did, my bad.

But looking back two years ago, what do you think was the meaning behind Nickelodeon?s short revival of Legends on cable Nick? Was it nothing more than just cycling through their early morning schedule of playing cancelled shows, or was there another meaning behind it?

Any ideas at all?
