Episode 114px]

The camera swerves through a thick rainforest, and after multiple turns, it eventually stops in front of an ancient temple.  The eyes of giant stone head next to the temple gate light up red as he begins to speak:
The show's logo forms as two halves of a Pendant of Life come in from the sides of the screen and merge; the show's name appears above the logo as the camera pans across the entire temple.
"With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk emerges from a thick patch of jungle plants and shrubs, then runs into the foreground and up a wide set of steps to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures of his temple.  Which one are we gonna hear about today?"

Faint orange lights underneath Olmec turn on, and the camera cuts to a close-up of him as he replies:
"The Second Seashell of K?ne Milohai."

"All right! Well, the legend is set," Kirk says in response as the camera cuts back to him, "and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the Seashell.  Will it be:
"Troy and Valerie of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order, their first names briefly appearing at the bottom of the screen?
"Jake and Rachelle of the Blue Barracudas,
"Michael and Katie of the Green Monkeys,
"Kaleb and Annie of the Orange Iguanas,
"Randy and Lynn of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Danny and Vivian of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter the Tem? enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they have to cross the Moat, and here's how they'll do it today?
"One player from each team is holding an ancient surfboard.  When I say 'Go,' he'll put the surfboard into the Moat, and he'll stand on it and go across by climbing hand-over-hand on the knotted rope above him.  Once the first player's across, it's his partner's turn to pull back the surfboard and he'll make it across by standing on it and climbing on the knotted rope."
"As soon as the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He hits the top button on the Red Jaguars' gong? which lights up red? to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going on to the next round.  Hey teams: Are you ready?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec: Are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"You betcha!" Olmec replies.
"All right then," Kirk says in response. "On your marks, get set, GO!"

On "Go," the first players do as directed, but within the first few seconds, the boys from the Red Jaguars, Purple Parrots and Blue Barracudas develop a notable lead over the girls from the other teams.  The female Green Monkey even loses the surfboard under her feet, and her feet touch the water, prompting her to go back and start over after only six seconds. "Green Monkeys gotta go back, but there's plenty of time, they can catch up!" However, it's not too long before the Red Jaguar and Silver Snake have to restart as well, making the Purple Parrots the first team to get a player across to the other side, in eleven seconds.  The Blue Barracudas and Orange Iguanas also get their first players across about six seconds later.
"This game takes a lot of balance," Kirk narrates as the second players on the Parrots, Barracudas and Iguanas start pulling on the ropes attached to their teams' surfboards, "and you can't go too fast but you gotta keep up!" The Green Monkeys get their first player across next, after twenty-four seconds, with the last two teams closely following suit.  A few seconds after starting across the Moat, the female Purple Parrot's surfboard slips out from underneath her, and she has to retry, but just as she starts back, the Blue Barracudas follow suit, but the Red Jaguars finally get their first player across (:30).  On the other hand, the Orange Iguanas maintain a steady pace and a significant lead, and thirty-eight seconds into the round, they are the first team to light up their gong.
"We got our first team: the Orange Iguanas! We're looking for three more!" Kirk declares while the Red Jaguar finishes reeling in her team's surfboard and the other players develop more of a lead.  A few seconds later, however, the Green Monkey goes too fast across the Moat and loses her grip on the overhead rope, causing her to fall into the water, but the Blue Barracuda makes it across and hits her team's gong after a full forty-five seconds, followed very closely by the Purple Parrots. "Still looking for one more team? and it's the Silver Snakes!" Sure enough, the Silver Snakes make it across and place fourth, banging their team gong fifty seconds after the round began.
"Blue Barracudas, made it across no problem at all!" announces Kirk as the camera cuts to him and the Blue Barracudas celebrating around their gong; he high-fives the boy on the team before continuing. "They're going on to the Steps of Knowledge, along with the Orange Iguanas?" the camera briefly shows each qualifying team, with Kirk stopping in between to allow for applause? "and the Purple Parrots? and the Silver Snakes! The Red Jaguars and the Green Monkeys? Tough match, it was really close, but we got a great gift for 'em and here's what it is." Troy, Valerie, Michael and Katie will each be receiving a copy of Ponyo on DVD.
Title: Rediscovery EP: The Second Seashell of K?ne Milohai
Post by: The Ancient Warrior on December 03, 2010, 07:35:01 PM
When the camera cuts away from the consolation prize, the four remaining teams, along with Kirk, are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge. "As we continue our quest," Kirk explains, "it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the legend of the Second Seashell of Connie Milohai.  But teams: pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:

"One of the most volatile deities in ancient Hawaii was Pele, the goddess of dance and fire.  She was born in Tahiti, but trouble found her when her older sister, a water goddess, thought Pele was trying to steal her husband.  Offended, Pele fought back, but the sisters' father intervened.
" 'Why do I even keep the two of you together if you're just going to keep fighting? Pele, you went too far this time? leave!'
"Bitterly, Pele was exiled from Tahiti, but her brother, K?ne Milohai, promised to keep her company.
" 'I know you were right, sis.  Don't worry, I'm here for you.' He held out his hand and showed her a magical seashell. 'Just drop this in the water, think of the place you wanna go and hop on!'
"Pele dropped the seashell into the water, and it turned into a huge sailboat.  She and K?ne jumped in, and it instantly took them to another island? but their older sister was one step ahead of them.  Every time they reached the next island, she'd already flooded out its volcanoes.
" 'Why can't she give it a rest?' asked Pele. 'Isn't it bad enough that I got the boot from my own dad?'
" 'Just leave it to me? I'll take care of her.  Take the seashell and go!'
"K?ne pulled out a second seashell and sailed off to find their sister, but she found K?ne first.  He tried to rush her, but she simply defeated him with a flood and then took off.  When K?ne Milohai caught up with her, she'd already torn Pele apart, but Pele's spirit lived on in the volcanoes of Hawaii, and the seashells disappeared? and the second one made its way to the Temple.  Your quest is to find the Second Seashell of K?ne Milohai and bring it back here."

"Thank you," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend, "but Olmec: where is the Seashell?"
Olmec replies:
"The Second Seashell of K?ne Milohai can be found in the Central Reef." The camera zooms in on a silvery conch shell sitting on the front-left edge of the coral structure around the downward ladder in the Central Reef, then fades back to Kirk.

"All right.  Teams," Kirk begins, "in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, stomp down on that ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you'll move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or if you run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer." Kirk starts walking down the steps as he continues. "The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec: we're ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
"Was K?ne Milohai's older sister named: Pele, Tiki or Alo??"
Vivian hits the marking first: "Pay-lay."
"Silver Snakes, good answer! Step down!" Kirk encourages, and the Silver Snakes move down to the second step. "Next question."

Olmec now asks:
"Was Pele the Hawaiian goddess of: Mountains, Fire and vol??"
Randy rings in: "Fire."
There is a pause.
"That is not one of our three choices," Olmec finally answers, leaving the Purple Parrots visibly upset. "The three choices are: Mountains, Fire and volcanoes or The stars."
After a moment, Jake stomps down and guesses: "Fire and volcanoes??"
"Blue Barracudas, step down!" The Blue Barracudas comply, and join the Silver Snakes on the second level. "You might wanna hear the full answer next time, teams.  Next question, Olmec!"

Olmec follows up with:
"K?ne Milohai and Pele were pursued by an older sister who was the goddess of which of these elements: Earth, Wind or Water?"
Annie buzzes in: "Water."
"Correct," Olmec replies.
"Orange Iguanas on the board!" commentates Kirk as the Orange Iguanas also move down one step. "Purple Parrots can still catch up; this is a close match.  Olmec: next question!"

Olmec then asks:
"Were Pele and K?ne looking for an island with a: Tall mountain, Coral Reef or V??"
Randy stomps down first: "Volcano."
"Correct," says Olmec in response.
"Purple Parrots, step down! It's a four-way tie on the second step!" Kirk narrates as the Purple Parrots walk down to the second level. "Next question, Olmec, so we can break this tie."

Olmec's next question is this:
"Every time they got to a new island, was it: Barren, Flooded-out or Completely destroyed?"
During the third choice, Randy gongs in again: "It was? flooded-out."
"That is correct."
"Just like that, the Purple Parrots came back and now they're one step away from the Temple Games!" remarks Kirk while gesturing for the Purple Parrots to progress to the third step. "We need two teams; it's anybody's game.  Next question, Olmec!"

Olmec asks:
"K?ne carried seashells that could turn into which of these: Rafts, Sailboats or Outrigger canoes?"
For the third time in a row, Randy is first to buzz in: "Sailboats."
"THAT IS CORRECT!" booms Olmec, and the Purple Parrots jump down onto the fourth and final step.
"We got our first team for the Temple Games!" announces Kirk while Randy and his partner begin celebrating by high-fiving one another while jumping up and down. "They came from behind; it's the Purple Parrots! We still need one more team; who's it gonna be? Olmec: continue."

Olmec does so by asking:
"Pele was banished from Tahiti because she kept fighting with her sister.  Is another word for 'banished': 'Extracted,' 'Exemplified' or 'Exiled'?"
Jake hits the marking first: " 'Exemplified'??"
Annie rings in next: " 'Exiled'??"
"That is correct."
"Orange Iguanas are now one step away from the Temple Games!" explains Kirk as the Orange Iguanas move down to the penultimate level. "Next question!"

Olmec continues:
"Were K?ne Milohai and Pele originally from: Micronesia, New Guinea or Tahiti?"
Annie stomps down and guesses: "Tahiti??"
"THAT IS CORRECT!" Olmec bellows, and the Orange Iguanas join the Purple Parrots on the bottommost step.  Kirk then reappears onscreen and runs up the bottom step between the two teams before the four qualifying players start celebrating with each other.
"We got our two teams that're going on to the Temple Games!" Kirk announces while he turns to face the camera. "The Purple Parrots and the Orange Iguanas! The Silver Snakes and the Blue Barracudas gave it a great effort too, and we got a great gift for 'em and here's what it is." Jake, Rachelle, Danny and Vivian will each be receiving a $50 iTunes gift card.
The screen wipes to reveal only Kirk, the Orange Iguanas and Purple Parrots still present on the Steps of Knowledge. "These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec's Temple? right after this!" The camera pans out and zooms in on the statue head in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.  Then, the show's logo reappears and the camera fades to commercial.

Post by: The Ancient Warrior on December 03, 2010, 07:43:13 PM
When the camera fades in from commercial, the show's title card is placed over a shot of the Sun model on one of the altars in the Observatory from behind.  The pendant logo splits, the title fades into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Coconut Harvest with the two remaining teams.
"Welcome back to Legends!" he says. "Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let's meet our two teams." He starts on the left side of the screen, with the girl on the Purple Parrots, who has straight auburn hair, blue-green eyes and one pink stud earring in each earlobe, and is wearing a purple waterproof jacket over her team shirt. "On the Purple Parrots, we have Lynn.  How old are you?"
"Twelve," she answers.
"And I understand you play softball and you wanna be a chef," Kirk reads off the index card in his hand. "Do you have a favorite dish to cook?"
"Um? I love Italian food," Lynn explains, "so probably a kind of pasta with my special sauce."
"Could you cook that for us after the show?"
"Um? Maybe," she giggles.
"All right," Kirk comments before moving on to Lynn's slightly taller partner, a hazel-eyed boy with visible bangs of dyed black hair. "And Randy: how old are you?"
"And I understand you like to write, but you also have an unusual hobby," Kirk reads. "Tell me about that."
"Uh? I'm a kind of a mapmaker.  I draw a few maps."
"How'd you get into that?"
"Well, I? uh? I wanna write a pirate story, but I felt like? uh, I had to learn a bit about them first? and the main character's a mapmaker."
"Well, let's see if you can find your way around here," Kirk comments. "Let's hear it for the Purple Parrots!" The audience applauds for a few seconds, and Randy and Lynn clap and shout with them.  As the applause begins to subside, Kirk turns to the right side of the screen to talk with the Orange Iguanas, starting with a hazel-eyed girl with her brown hair in a braided ponytail.  The girl is also wearing an orange waterproof jacket over her team shirt. "And on the Orange Iguanas, we have Annie.  How old are you?"
"Thirteen," she says in response.
"And it says here you play an instrument.  What do you play?" Kirk asks, holding his microphone up to Annie's mouth.
"Piano and keyboards."
"And how long have you been doing that for?"
"Well? my parents made me take piano when I was five? and then I started keyboards two years ago."
"And do you play with anyone?"
"Well? I could start a band?" she smirks.
"All right, then good luck," Kirk replies with a smile.  He then moves further to the right to talk to Annie's taller partner, a brown-eyed boy with visible bangs of rich blond hair. "And also on the Orange Iguanas, we have Kaleb.  How old are you?"
"Fourteen," he answers.
"And I heard you play soccer, but you also help your dad a lot with fixing something," read Kirk. "What's that you fix?"
"We work on computers," Kaleb replies.
"Really? Is it tough?"
"Well, I still don't get most of it," he laughs.
"Well, it might still help you solve these Temple Games," Kirk says, moving back toward the center of the screen. "Let's hear it for the Orange Iguanas!" Kaleb and Annie high- and low-five while the audience cheers for them.

"All right, you guys ready to play?" asks Kirk.
"YEAH!" shout the players in response.
"All right! Now, why don't you go get ready for the Temple Games," Kirk says, and the boys walk offscreen the left and the girls to the right before Kirk faces the camera again, "and I'll tell you what's gonna happen here.  In the Temple Games, each team is competing for?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "these Pendants of Life.  The winning team's gonna need those Pendants to protect them from the DREADED Temple Guards when they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games.  Olmec: tell us about the first one."

Olmec begins:
"Pele and K?ne Milohai left their home in Hawaii and were chased by their wrathful older sister, a water goddess who tried to flood out any place Pele wanted to go.  In this game, you will try to stop her.  Behind you is a diagonal waterfall.  When Kirk gives the signal, push the boulder up the waterfall with your backs until you reach the top.  Place the boulder there, and slide back down.
"The first player to place the boulder at the top to clog the waterfall and slide back down? or the player that's further along after 60 seconds? wins."
"It's a race to save the island!" comments Kirk as the camera segues over to him in front of the girls and the equipment. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock?" With a banging sound effect, a countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and Kirk dashes out of the camera frame. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Lynn and Annie start up the slopes, using indents in the side walls in an attempt to keep themselves from falling.  Neither girl has a lot of luck at first? both lose their grips only a few seconds into the game and slip a couple feet before recovering. "They're both climbing up the walls? or up the slides? but it's tough to go against all that water!" Annie slips again after a little while, enabling Lynn to move further ahead (:43). "Orange Iguanas having a lot of trouble? but can the Purple Parrots stay ahead, or will she fall?" Annie finally advances beyond the halfway mark with 38 seconds remaining, but Lynn is approaching the top of her slope at this point. "Purple Parrots still blazing! She's tough; she's hangin' in there!" Shortly after, however, Lynn is pushed down as she tries to sit on the top of the slope; she stops herself and heads back up with 32 seconds on the clock. "Augh, tough break, but she's still pretty close to the top! She just needs to sink the boulder and slide on back down!" Lynn finally reaches the top with 23 seconds left, and takes a few seconds to drop the boulder in and clog up the waterfall.  Annie makes it to the top a little while later, but Lynn is already sliding back down, and lands at the base of the slope with a big splash and sixteen seconds to spare.
"That's it! Nice?" Kirk tries in vain to stifle a laugh as Annie slides down after Lynn; the waterfalls shut off shortly after. "Nice splash! The?" The girls struggle to get up. "The Purple Parrots made it to the top and clogged up their waterfall first, so that gives them the half-Pendant of Life!" The audience cheers for Lynn for a couple seconds as Annie, soaking wet, walks out of the collection pool at the base of her team's slope. "They're wet, they're tired, but the Orange Iguanas can catch up in the next game.  Olmec: tell us about it."

Olmec continues:
"Pele and K?ne Milohai traveled from one island to the next one, trying to give their sister the slip.  In this game, you will have to do some island-hopping of your own! When Kirk gives the signal, grab the rope and swing out from the highest island to the next one.  Then, start jumping from each island to the next, but remember to act fast? if you take too long, the islands will start to sink.
"The first player to reach the island at the end, the player that's further along after 60 seconds or the player that stays on the longest? wins!"
The camera segues over to Kirk waiting by the lowest platforms. "Paradise awaits your players, but let's see who gets there first," he declares. "Set the clock for 60 seconds?" The countdown clock reappears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and a purple half-Pendant appears in the upper-left corner as the camera cuts to the two boys on the highest platforms. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Randy and Kaleb seem a bit hesitant at first, but both boys make a fairly easy jump to the first of the four platforms on the path? this highest platform appears camera-left, but the others alternate. "There they go! They're goin' out swingin'? But they gotta act fast!" The boys both swing out with the long ropes, aiming camera-right for the second platforms as the first ones start to sink; Randy lands closer to the inside edge, but Kaleb swings further across; both land with a little over 45 seconds remaining, at which point the first platforms suddenly drop behind them.
"Purple Parrots startin' to blaze across!" Kirk commentates as Randy swings out onto the third platform and lands with a full 42 seconds left; at this point, Kaleb is starting to trail. "They gotta move fast, 'cause those islands are sinking!" Time elapses, and both boys progress one more platform: Randy sets foot on the last platform before the finish line with 34 seconds to go, Kaleb with 31.  A moment later, the second platform suddenly drops to its minimum height, and the boys run across the last platforms and swing out to the final ledges.  Ultimately, Randy swings out onto the ledge first and ends the game with 27 seconds on the clock; Kaleb misses the final ledge and drops down, lowered by his support cord.
"That's it! C'mon down Randy!" Kirk calls out from his position as the camera switches a shot from behind him and the indicators vanish from the screen.  Randy sits down on the ledge and drops down, letting his support cord lower him slowly. "The Purple Parrots made it across first again, so they get another half a Pendant of Life!" The audience cheers while Kirk and Randy high-five; the commentary continues when the applause subsides. "So now the Purple Parrots have a full Pendant, the Orange Iguanas don't have any yet? but this next game is worth a full Pendant, and they can tie it up.  Olmec: tell us about Temple Game #3."

Olmec narrates:
"K?ne Milohai had a seashell which could turn into a huge sailboat, and he and his sister Pele used that as they moved from one island to the next.  In this game, however, you will have to transport the seashells yourselves.  When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will put a seashell between their feet.   Grab the trapeze, and swing out to meet your partner in the middle.  Once there, transfer the shell to the other player, and he'll bring it back to the other side and place it in your bin.
"The first team to transfer two seashells? or the team with the most seashells in their bin at the end of 30 seconds? wins!"
The camera transitions over to Kirk amidst the equipment. "This is for the Temple," he reminds the players and audience. "Let's put 30 seconds on the clock?" The clock reappears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and a purple full Pendant appears in the upper-left corner as Kirk dashes offscreen to the right. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
Lynn and Annie put their teams' first seashells between their feet and swing out, but at first the transfers do not go so well. "Augh, they both missed! This is tough, but these teams are tough too!" All four players swing back, and the girls pick up their next shells before swinging out.  On the second try, both boys are able to pick up the seashells.  Randy and Kaleb then swing back, and both boys put the shells in their respective bins with roughly seventeen seconds to go. "Both teams scored that time! They're fast, and this takes a lot of communication!" The Purple Parrots move a bit faster as Annie delays with picking up each new seashell and Kaleb takes a bit longer to place the first one in the Iguanas' bin.  This and Annie losing her third seashell cost the Orange Iguanas a few seconds, and enable the Purple Parrots to take the lead? Randy catches the Parrots' second seashell with his feet, and takes it back to the team bin with nine seconds remaining.
"That's it!" Kirk declares, running onscreen to announce the winner as the indicators disappear from the screen. "C'mon down, you guys!" The players leave their trapezes and join Kirk in the middle of the four ramps. "Both teams fought hard? this took a lot of coordination? but it was the Purple Parrots that got both shells first, with about ten seconds left!" The audience bursts into an early round of applause, cutting Kirk off for a few seconds; when he starts to speak up, the audience quiets down again. "That gives the Purple Parrots the full Pendant, giving them two? the Orange Iguanas didn't have any.  The Purple Parrots are goin' to the Temple!" Randy and Lynn jump up in the air and high-five multiple times, while Kirk stands by the Orange Iguanas. "The Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort too; we got a nice gift for 'em for playing and here's what it is." Kaleb and Annie will each be receiving a pair of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Optimus Prime and Megatron action figures.
The screen wipes, and now only Kirk and the Purple Parrots are present. "We'll see if the Purple Parrots can make it through Olmec's Temple and retrieve the Second Seashell of Connie Meal-high," he says, "right after this!" The camera swings back, then zooms in on the mouth of the cannon in the Cannon Room.  There, the show's logo appears and the camera fades to black for commercials.

When the camera returns from the second commercial break, the show's logo is partially covering a shot of the ship's wheel in the Pirate's Cove.  The Pendant of Life splits, the title shrinks into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk standing in front of the Temple's stairs, to the camera-right of the Purple Parrots. "Welcome back to Legends!" he says to the camera. "The Blue Barr? I mean, Purple Parrots have proven themselves worthy, and now've earned the right to enter the Temple.  But first, Olmec's gotta give 'em some information to help 'em retrieve the Second Seashell of Connie Milohai."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
"You COULD start? by running up to the Room of the Ancient Masks! Push in the correct mask, and pass into the Upper Terrace! There you must choose your next path; you could race up into the Observatory.  Read the instructions on the far wall with the telescope, and follow them to open the door to the Central Reef, where you can grab the Second Seashell of K?ne Milohai.  Next, you might crawl into the Tiki Village.  Push the correct idol into position; that may take you below or lead you into the SHRIIIIIIIIiiine of the SIIIIILver Monkey!  Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Pirate's Cove! Place the torch in the correct holder to go back, or spin the ship's wheel and enter the Graveyard of Ships.
"Stand on the correct grave to go upstairs? but beware the Temple Guards that may inhabit the buried pirates!  Or, you might plow through the wall and into the Viper's Nest.  Reach into the snake jars and find the key, and you'll enter the Bamboo Forest!  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Cannon Room.  Load the three cannonballs into the cannon, and if the rock slab is up, you can crawl back through the Coconut Harvest and finally climb through the Cave, rrrrace down the STAIRS and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone!" Olmec pauses for a second. "You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first?"
"I am," replies Randy.
"Very well, Randy!" replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Second Seashell.  Hidden in the Temple are three secret passages that may lead you into the Bamboo Forest, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on BUT? if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Lynn's turn to enter and try her luck.  If you reach the Seashell, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Second Seashell of K?ne Milohai in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they're both going to get an Xzibit Video Game Rocker provided by Dreamseat.
?   If they can grab the Seashell within three minutes, they're also going to get a set of microscopes provided by Tasco.
?   And if they can bring the Seashell out of the Temple before three minutes is up, they'll both be going to Hawaii! In the heart of Waikiki, the Best Western Ohana Waikiki Tower participates in the Young Travelers Club.  Just steps away from Waikiki Beach, an area pulsing with excitement, shopping and entertainment!

The camera cuts back from the grand prize to show Kirk, Randy and Lynn one last time before the bonus round begins. "Let's see if we can get these Purple Parrots going to Hawaii!" comments Kirk, who then turns to Randy. "You're going in first, Randy, so let's put you out in front.  Mouthpieces in.  And let's set three minutes on the clock." The clock reappears onscreen. "Olmec: will you lower your gate?"
Olmec groans gutturally as he lowers the gate; the faint orange lights under him are turned off.
"On your mark, get set, GO!"

"There goes Randy! They got two Pendants n' plenty of time!" Randy races behind Olmec and up the stairs into the Room of the Ancient Masks as the Temple Run begins.  He pushes in the stage-right mask on the back wall, but the door on the back wall of the room opens as he starts to run by?
"TEMPLE GUARD!" Kirk shouts out, and Randy freezes in place as the Temple Guard appears. "Just like that, he's gotta give up one of his Pendants!" After a couple moments of hesitation, Randy hands over his Pendant of Life, and the Temple Guard retreats to the door through which he came (2:45).  Randy then moves across to the newly-opened door to the Upper Terrace and heads through; once in the room, he darts across the further-in-the-background of the two catwalks connecting the side ledges, and opens the door to the Observatory.  He then dashes up the staircase and enters the room with 2:33 remaining.
"He's up into the Observatory," explains Kirk, "where he's gotta read the directions in the telescope!" Randy looks into the telescope and spends several seconds adjusting the focusing knobs; while his eye is up to the telescope's lens, the camera temporarily switches to a view of the writing on the far wall? which reads "Switch Sun and Moon"? before it cuts back to Randy standing up and stepping away from the telescope with 2:19 left. "He had a little trouble reading that writing, but I think he knows what to do now!" Randy moves over to the altars in the front of the room, grabs the model of the Moon from the stage-right one and moves over to the stage-left altar on which the Sun model is perched.  He soon switches the positions of the two, triggering the door to the Tiki Village. "That door's open! He can move on!" With 2:09 on the clock, Randy walks down the staircase and enters the Tiki Village, but just as he starts to push the stage-right idol in the room, the second Temple Guard opens its doors and whisks Randy away!
"Augh, Temple Guard! Go Lynn!" Lynn races up the first flight of stairs with 2:04 remaining.  She follows her partner's path to the letter, which entails passing through the Room of the Ancient Masks, crossing the Upper Terrace (1:53), running through the Observatory and setting foot in the Tiki Village with 1:41 on the clock. "She's got a lot of ground to make up, but also a lot of time!" She gets behind the camera-right tiki idol and pushes with her back, guiding the idol across the floor by respecting the raised ridges as boundaries. "She's strong, this one? These Purple Parrots won all three Temple Games, and they're tenacious!" Lynn pushes the idol around to the space behind the ladder leading downward; apparently there is a floor switch which is weighed down by the time the door leading to the Bamboo Forest opens at the halfway mark.
"Where's the open door?" asks Kirk rhetorically, noting that the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey did not open when the door to the Bamboo Forest did. "It's gotta be? Oh, she's going down!" With barely a moment's hesitation, Lynn boards the ladder and descends into the middle of the Bamboo Forest.  As she enters the room, she climbs down the stage-right side of the middle of three web-like masses of bamboo tangles in the room, and it isn't very long before she turns around climbs onto the rightmost bamboo mass, then moves towards a large opening high in the web-like mass (1:18). "She's moving fast through the Bamboo Forest? you always gotta move fast in there!" Lynn squeezes through the opening and hoists herself into the passageway leading camera-right to the Cannon Room, hitting the actuator to open the door before she completely disappears.  Moments later, she kicks open the door in the Cannon Room with 1:11 and starts looking around for the three cannonballs? but before she can get too busy, the third Temple Guard jumps out from the front-right corner of the room!
"There's her Temple Guard!" commentates Kirk as Lynn shrieks, then struggles with her Pendant of Life. "She knows she's gotta give up her Pendant? that's the last of 'em, but that one REALLY scared her!" After several seconds, Lynn hands the Purple Parrots' final Pendant of Life to the Temple Guard with 1:04 to go, forcing him to retreat. "Now she's gotta find the cannonballs, fill the cannon with the cannonballs?" At first, Lynn stays close to the ladder in the center of the room, and this works well as she finds her first two cannonballs with ease.  She brings them both to the cannon in the front of the room and loads them in with 52 seconds left, then looks for the last one. "She's got two; now she just needs one more!" After a little more searching, she finds the last cannonball by the Temple Guard's hiding place, and soon loads it into the cannon, causing the tip of the cannon's fuse to light up (0:43).
"That's it! Now she's gotta?" Kirk's voice trails off as Lynn realizes the door leading up into the Central Reef from below is still locked.  She runs over to the far stage-right side of the room, and the camera shows her trying to push the rock slab out of her way from behind.  After a moment, she decides to retreat, and runs back across the room; she returns to the Bamboo Forest with 33 seconds on the clock. "She's running out of time and running out of open doors!" Lynn continues to retrace her footsteps as she backtracks through the same openings in the bamboo tangles (0:27). "Which way's gonna take 'er into the Center of the? er, the Center Reef?" Lynn scrambles up the camera-right side of the second bamboo mass, which is eventually replaced with the ladder rungs of the Tiki Village; she sets foot in the Tiki Village once more with but eighteen seconds to go. "She just keeps going backwards? Maybe she forget a door somewhere!" Lynn glances over at the locked door to the Central Reef from this room as she jogs towards the camera-right wall; she then runs up into the Observatory with twelve seconds left and heads back down into the Upper Terrace as the audience starts to count down the final seconds. "She's confused? She's back to where she came in from!" Lynn steps out of the doorway connecting the Upper Terrace to the Observatory's stairwell as the clock reads "0:07"; she carefully moves across the side ledge, and hits the actuator for the Central Reef door, which opens. "She found it! Hurry, Lynn!" The clock reads "0:04" as Lynn crouches down and starts to crawl through the passage; she makes it into the Central Reef with just one second left? but time runs out before she can grab the Second Seashell from the far edge of the coral puzzle!
"NOOO!" Randy and Kirk shout in unison, before the latter continues to lament the loss in his commentary. "Augh, they were that close! She couldn't find the open door? they searched everywhere, but they just needed one more second! I really wanted to see them get those prizes, but they still get the video game chairs just for playing? and they still get to keep with their confidence? I wish I could send them to Hawaii anyway, but we gotta get outta here.  I don't wanna, but we gotta.  Join us next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!" The camera pans out as Kirk tries to console Randy; a depressed Lynn soon joins them in the foreground.  The camera also shows the Purple Parrots' lit-up gong at the Moat, the Central Reef, the Bamboo Forest and various patches of foliage around the Temple Games arena while the credits roll.

Episode Summary
Episode 114px]

Name of Artifact: The Second Seashell of K?ne Milohai
Season: 3
Layout: 3 (Hawaiian Layout; 13 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Team: Purple Parrots
Pendants Won: 2
Location of Artifact: The Central Reef

Well, this was a strange episode.  It started off normally with a fairly average "Surfboard and Rope" Moat crossing and proceeded with an interesting story about the Hawaiian fire goddess Pele, with added emphasis on her siblings.  The Purple Parrots swept through the Temple Games? "Slippery Slope," "Zigzag Jump" (which d?buted only two episodes prior in "The Priceless Flute of Leleiohoku") and the "Trapeze Game"? but the Temple Run? That was something else.

Simply put, I don't think I'll insult a team for trying the direct path ever again.  Randy and Lynn apparently expected a convoluted Temple design, which led them to start in the Room of the Ancient Masks, bypass the Central Reef actuator in the Upper Terrace and curve around to the Tiki Village.  Randy was taken out there, but Lynn continued on by climbing downward and advancing into the Cannon Room.  The door upward did not open? but the Coconut Harvest door did, suggesting that the team could have gone through the rooms in the opposite order? so Lynn eventually backtracked all the way to the Upper Terrace with time ticking down.  She realized the team's mistake and passed directly into the Central Reef from there, but didn't have enough time left to grab the Seashell.  This was simultaneously the simplest and one of the most devious Temple designs in the history of the show.

Trivia and Records:
This was only the third episode (after "The Holy Ankh of the Egyptian Deity" from Season 1 and "Savonarola's Torch" from the previous layout) in which neither the Red Jaguars nor the Green Monkeys advance from the Moat.  However, this was also the fourth and final episode in which the direct path to the artifact works? and the only such episode that resulted in a loss (despite its path being a record low, at only three rooms).

Cunning. Even while reading the Temple Run, I didn't expect that twist ending at all - I even thought it was a production error until the end.

Awesome work! :)

Someone on the production team must have felt especially evil that day...
