Temple Room Statistics
« on: May 09, 2013, 12:04:45 AM »
I'd like to dedicate this thread to calculations and statistics about different temple rooms... stuff like how often guards were in particular rooms, which objectives got completed how often, etc.

I'm going to start with the Room of the Ancient Warriors. I think it's safe to say that the Room of the Ancient Warriors was one of the most enjoyable rooms of the series (or at least, I think so). Although it may have felt cramped, the room was put to good use. Its objective was very simple, but the fact that there were multiple potential temple guard locations made it much more suspenseful.

I was interested in collecting some statistics about the room, and I thought I would present them here if you were interested. Here is a start of what I have found:

  • There were five artifacts located in the room: Snow Cone of Mount Kilimanjaro, Dried Apple Half of William Tell, Bullet-Riddled Handbag of Belle Boyd, Jeweled Scabbard of Sforza, and Jewel-Encrusted Egg of Catherine the Great.
  • There were nine episodes where the contestants entered from the Chamber of the Sacred Markers. There were 13 episodes where the team entered from the King's Storeroom. Six teams entered from the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.
  • There were seven episodes in which the team did not attempt the objective. This count does not include those five episodes previously listed.
  • There were two episodes in which time ran out with a contestant in the Room of the Ancient Warriors: Discarded Seal of Ivan the Terrible and Lost Whale Bone of Pytheas. Both are clockwise central shaft runs. In both runs, the second runner had tried the leftmost and middle runs (in that order) before time ran out. The next door failed to activate in time.
  • The rightmost armor was tried 22 times. In nine episodes, it activated the next door. Five times a temple guard was behind that armor.
  • The middle armor was tried 24 times. It activated the next door 15 times. Eight guards were behind the middle armor.
  • The leftmost armor was tried 12 times. It activated the next door twice. There were only ever two guards in that armor: Bifocal Monocle and Discarded Seal. In both cases, the guard was avoidable. During Bifocal Monocle, the Ancient Warriors was part of a dead end, so the whole room (not only the guard) was avoidable. In Discarded Seal, the rightmost armor was going to be the one to activate the next door.

Neat stuff there. It should also be noted that there were 2 victories from that room, being Jewel Encrusted Egg and Jeweled Scabbard. Both were on the same filming day as well. Also, both teams in Discarded Seal and Pytheas were one room away from their respective artifacts.

Neat stuff there. It should also be noted that there were 2 victories from that room, being Jewel Encrusted Egg and Jeweled Scabbard. Both were on the same filming day as well.

On a related note:
  • Snow Cone of Mount Kilimanjaro was the first episode of its production day. Its path allowed access directly to the bottom floor.
  • Dried Apple Half of William Tell was the third episode of its production day. Its path forced the team into the Ledges, down to the bottom of the Pit of the Pendulum, up to the King's Storeroom, down the central shaft, and then across the bottom floor.
  • Bullet-Riddled Handbag of Belle Boyd was the second of its production day. The path was similar to Dried Apple Half, except they were not forced into the Ledges, and they were given the option to go directly into the Chamber from the Pit of the Pendulum.
  • Jeweled Scabbard of Sforza was the first episode of its production day. The team went up the central shaft and into the Room of the Ancient Warriors.
  • Jewel-Encrusted Egg of Catherine the Great was the fourth episode of its production day. The team was given access to the Tomb of the Headless Kings. After reaching the Dark Forest, they went directly up to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.

So in summary, each of the losses was a different position in its respective day. Including all five runs, all four episode positions were fulfilled. Also, every Ancient Warriors run had a different path. No two runs saw contestants in the same room when time expired.

Also, both teams in Discarded Seal and Pytheas were one room away from their respective artifacts.

While we know that the Room of the Ancient Warriors was the penultimate room in the Discarded Seal run since they had already completed the Chamber of the Sacred Markers, it is not guaranteed that the Pytheas team was going to be allowed to go directly into the Chamber of the Sacred Markers in their run. Even though no other clockwise Center of the Room run forced the team into the Observatory, that does not mean Lost Whale Bone of Pytheas would have necessarily followed that trend.

The Jedediah Smith team also finished one room away from the artifact too, which was located in the King's Storeroom. Except their run never really finished in the Room of the Ancient Warriors. But they still made it one room away from the artifact.

But interesting stats altogether. I remember I did something like this on my old Legends websites for various rooms a long time ago. I never covered the Room of the Ancient Warriors though. Here is a couple of more interesting facts about the Room of the Ancient Warriors:

- In both "Ivan the Terrible" and "Chandragupta", the middle suit of armor contained an avoidable temple guard. They were both Green Monkey runs also.
- Both victories in this room came from the last production day of the show.
- Both Belle Boyd and William Tell featured similar paths that forced the team from the top of the central shaft to the bottom. Both runs were also Green Monkey runs too. The "Snow Cone" team also had an option to start at the top of the central shaft too, but they were allowed into the Headless Kings.

- In both "Ivan the Terrible" and "Chandragupta", the middle suit of armor contained an avoidable temple guard. They were both Green Monkey runs also.

Those two episodes featured avoidable guards, but neither were in the middle armor. Ivan the Terrible's guard was in the leftmost armor, and Chandragupta's guard was in the rightmost armor. In both cases, those armors were the ones directly next to the door from which the contestant entered.

And some other brief notes about temple guards in the Room of the Ancient Warriors:
  • Rightmost Armor: Of the five guards located in that armor, four of them were in the armor that activated the next door. The one exception is Chandragupta. There were four other times in which that armor activated the next door without a guard being behind it.
  • Middle Armor: There were eight instances in which a guard was behind this armor, and that was the correct armor every time. There were seven episodes in which this armor activated the next door without a guard being behind it.
  • Leftmost Armor: There were two episodes in which a guard was located in this armor. In Ivan the Terrible, the guard was behind an inactive headdress. In the other episode, Bifocal Monocle of One-Eyed Jack, the entire room was avoidable since it was part of a dead end. The only episode to not have a guard behind the leftmost headdress where that armor opened the next door was the Enormous Feather of the Me Linh.

Going back to TRJ's point about the Bent Shaving Pan of Jedidiah Smith:

Irish tried all three armors before she was removed from the temple by the guard behind the middle headdress. Brian then followed up on her path, but time ran out before he could reach the Room of the Ancient Warriors. So even though the run did not end with a contestant in the Ancient Warriors, it was the farthest point they got to during the run.

That being said, did they end only one room away from the artifact? Do you think that Brian would have only had to run through the temple without completing any objectives? If the Ancient Warriors opened directly to the King's Storeroom, then it is possible. But there is also a possibility that he would have had to have completed the Chamber of the Sacred Markers before gaining access to the King's Storeroom.

I personally think that Brian would have been forced to enter the Chamber of the Sacred Markers. Here are some things to consider:
  • The other episodes from that day were Snow Cone of Mount Kilimanjaro, Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson, and Marble Armrest of Xerxes. While all of these runs had very linear paths, they did not have the most direct routes. (Sherra and Derek were forced down into the Ledges and also went into the King's Storeroom. Meanwhile, Pat and Noelle were forced into the Ledges and were forced to go around the horn.) So even though none of the other Observatory runs forced the team into the Center of the Rooms from the Ancient Warriors space, I don't think it would be entirely out of the question for them to have had to have entered the Chamber of the Sacred Markers given the other paths that day.
  • When Irish tried the middle headdress, a sound effect went off, signaling another door had opened. If you compare the sound effect that played to the one that went off when Gator triggered the Chamber door in the Aganuugpak run, they sound very similar. Compare it to the sound effect from Enormous Feather of the Me Linh, when Karisa activated the King's Storeroom door; I don't think it is the same sound.

I don't know, I think Brian would've been allowed to enter the King's Storeroom from the Room of the Ancient Warriors in the "Jedediah Smith" run. Yeah, it would've been a free pass for him all the way up until the King's Storeroom. But the reason he would've had a free pass because Irish already encountered the one room away guard. If the team would've started in the Ledges and encounter the last guard, then Brian wouldn't have a free pass. I am not really convinced that they were forced in the Chamber. This temple guard layout was just like the "William the Conqueror" run. The same thing would've happened to Olivia if she started in the Ledges and would've got taken out in the Room of the Ancient Warriors. Then Jonathan would've had a clear cut path to the Chamber in that run.

Next I'd like to look at the Chamber of the Sacred Markers. I personally really liked this room. It was a neat objective that was simple but filled the room well. Certain contestants took longer to complete this room than others, but most contestants got through this room without too much of a problem. I also enjoyed the fact that a guard could enter from the side door or be behind the cover. The lighting and sound effects when the cover flipped up were cool, too.

So now on to some numbers:

  • Six artifacts were located in this room. Twice the artifact was grabbed, one of them being a victorious run.
  • Including the two episodes in which a contestant entered the room to grab the artifact, the Chamber was entered 22 times.  (So it was completed 20 times in 40 episodes.)
  • There weren't any episodes where a contestant's time expired in that room (unless you want to include Comet-Embroidered Battle Flag).
  • There were two episodes in which a contestant completed the Chamber objective and multiple doors opened: Bifocal Monocle of One-Eyed Jack and Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson. In Bifocal Monocle, the Room of the Ancient Warriors and Tomb of the Headless Kings opened; in Upside-Down Compass, the King's Storeroom and Room of the Ancient Warriors opened. The Pit also opened backwards during the Upside-Down Compass, but the team did not utilize that passageway. In both of the episodes, the King's Storeroom and Ancient Warriors held guards.
  • There were 4 instances where teams entered the Chamber from the King's Storeroom. Two of those teams (Belle Boyd and William Tell) had Ancient Warriors runs and were forced all the way down the central shaft. The other two runs (Pearl Necklace and Clovis I) were Quicksand Bog runs that had identical paths and temple guard placements.
  • There were 8 runs where the team entered from the Pit of the Pendulum. We have already discussed Bifocal Monocle, which is one of those runs. Sir Gawain, Frederick Douglass, and Sojourner Truth led the teams to the Ancient Warriors. Mary Shelley, Queen Boadicea, and Aurangzeb saw the team start in the Chamber and climb into the King's Storeroom. Ivan the Terrible was the only run that saw a team start in the Chamber and be forced down into the Tomb of the Headless Kings.
  • There were also 8 episodes in which the team entered the Chamber from the Tomb of the Headless Kings. Henry Hudson was already mentioned. War Fan and Judge Roy Bean are the only two to then go directly into the Ancient Warriors. Sacajawea, Useless Map, Lost Hornpipe, Melted Head, and Sforza all saw the team go into the King's Storeroom before heading down to the Ancient Warriors.
  • Twelve guards were located in the Chamber of the Sacred Markers. 5 came from the side door, and 7 hid behind the cover.
  • There are four episodes (Sir Gawain, Sacajawea, Roland, and Mummified Hand) where the half-pendant could be seen above the upper left-hand column of markers. Only in the Sacajawea episode was the half-pendant grabbed.

You could also see the half pendant in "Roland" during the credits. I'm not sure if that counts or not.

If the Egyptian King half-pendant counts when Maggie and Josh never enters the Chamber, so should the Roland one too. I think that one should be added also.

And good choice also for the Chamber. When I made my Legends site a long time ago, I had a lot of facts about the Chamber. Here is some stuff I want to add.

- Golden Spider Web, Marble Armrest, and Lost Whale Bone all sat on a rock when they were located in the Chamber. Meanwhile the Missing Portrait, Mussel-Shell Armor, and Comet-Embroidered Battle Flag had their artifacts tacked on the back wall above the King's Storeroom door.
- Both Queen Boadicea and Smashed Printing Plate were the two runs where the artifact was located in the bottom of the central shaft AND the teams had to pass through the Chamber. Both runs were Red Jaguar runs where they swept the temple games.
- Sir Gawain and Sojourner Truth were the only two runs where the Chamber door was the only door open from the Pit. Both artifacts were located in the Jester's Court.
- Both Hans Holbein and Robert the Bruce had their runs end in almost the exact same place.

It's also visible as Yakera is exiting.

If you have seen all 120 episodes of Legends, copy and paste this into your signature for all to see.

Thanks for catching the Roland half pendant, everyone! I had it written down but passed over it when I went to write that last entry.

- Sir Gawain and Sojourner Truth were the only two runs where the Chamber door was the only door open from the Pit. Both artifacts were located in the Jester's Court.

Bifocal Monocle, Discarded Seal, Royal Torque of Queen Boadicea, and Aurangzeb were other runs where the Chamber of the Sacred Markers was the only door to open from the Pit.

Thanks for pointing those ones out. I am not sure what I was thinking when I posted that.

And one more piece to add: William Tell, Belle Boyd, Ivan the Terrible, and Bifocal Monocle all forced the teams down to the Headless Kings from the Chamber. 3/4 of those were Green Monkey runs where the team had two pendants.

Another thing about the Chamber of the Sacred Markers that I wanted to bring up was the different combinations of missing markers that had to be placed back into the wall. Out of the 20 times the objective was completed:
  • The top marker was put back in 16 times.
  • The second marker was put back in 6 times.
  • The third marker was put back in 18 times.
  • The fourth marker was put back in 9 times.
  • The fifth marker was put back in 8 times.
  • The bottom marker was put back in 3 times.

The combination of missing markers were as follows:
  • 1/2/3 occurred in 3 episodes.
  • 1/2/5 occurred once.
  • 1/3/4 occurred 6 times.
  • 1/3/5 occurred in 4 episodes.
  • 1/3/6 occurred twice.
  • 2/3/4 occurred once.
  • 2/3/5 occurred once.
  • 3/4/5 occurred once.
  • 4/5/6 occurred once.

And one last interesting note: The three times that had the bottom marker out of place were back-to-back-to-back episodes, even though it was split over two production days (Aurangzeb, Melted Head, and Gwalior). All three of those episodes also featured a guard in the room.

I wanted to do statistics for one of my personal favorite rooms of the temple, the Dark Forest.   I got a lot of information down, but there is more I want to include and which I will edit to this post. Hopefully this information is accurate and expect more to come in the future. ;)

DARK FOREST STATISTICS

(Credit goes to Ed's site for this image!)

ARTIFACT STATISTICS:
- There were a total of 7 artifacts located in this room. Three in Season Two (Lost Love Letter, Missing Weather Maps and Sacred Ring) and four in Season Three (Mysterious Manuscript, Upside-Down Compass, Useless Map, and Mummified Hand).
- All three Season Two artifacts were located on the Temple Spirit itself.
- All four Season Three artifacts were located on a ledge in the back of the room.
- 4/7 of the artifacts were some sort of document. Two of the artifacts themselves were a "Map".
- 4/7 of these episodes ended in triple capture.

TEMPLE SPIRIT STATISTICS:
- There were a total of 17 Temple Spirit captures in the Dark Forest.
- Stage Right Tree capture: Egyptian Queen, Queen Nzinga, Snow Cone, Empress Theodora, Belle Boyd
- Stage Left Tree capture: Cracked Crown, Bandit Queen, Enormous Feather, Ivory Elephant, Butch Cassidy, Montezuma, Lost Lion Tail, Smashed Printing Plate, Dr. Livingstone, Blackfeet Chief, Mussel-Shell Armor, Sojourner Truth, Ali Baba
- The Crown of Queen Nzinga was the only temple run that ended in triple capture in this room.
- One temple guard was evaded at least once in the Dark Forest: The stage left tree in "Enormous Iron Nose Ring".

Temple RUN STATISTICS:
- The Dark Forest --> Shrine passage was used at least 10 different times between Season Two. Out of those ten times though, Chris from "Harriet Tubman" did not need a key to open the door leading to the Shrine. He found it anyways and used it.
