When did Nickelodeon Jump the shark?

It's obvious that Nick has long since jumped the shark, but the question is, when?

I have to admit that I do like Spongebob, but only the episodes before the movie was made.  The episodes they're making now are dumb.  This is just my opinion but I think Nickelodeon jumped the shark when they showed the Oddparents because I think it just opened the door to let more poor quality shows to be aired on Nick.  I think it said, if this show is on, so can pretty much every show too.

The Spongebob hype, although I do agree with PPR on everything he just said.

Nah, Nickelodeon really died a while back when they added all those characters to Rugrats and ordered way too many new episodes of the show. Everybody was bored to death when they had to run through them all.

Spongebob earns all the hype it has, to be totally honest. It's a great show, although each new episode they make is worse than the prior because the humor gets progressively more forced.

Fairly oddparents is such a sucky show. Its the most repetitive formula in the history of tv. Timmy wishes for something stupid, The wish goes awry, he unwishes the wish and now were back where we started. How could someone that stupid get wish granting parental units? The shows just stupid and NEEDS to be cancled.

I think Nickelodeon relies on SpongeBob and Fairly OddParents too much. The only way the network can reclaim its former glory is to bring back their ever increasing library of older programming.

I don't think the older shows would work anymore. Nick's desperately trying to find a new hit show to replace Spongebob and OddParents because it's aware of their ultimately limited lifespans. Just what will fill the role will be interesting to see.

I dont know how long ago it was, but probably somewhere between "fairly odd parents" and "all grown up."

Spongebob is a good show, at least in comparasion to oddparents. I dont think i ever liked that show. im just waiting to see how long it will take before they run out of ideas for that show.

Like nicklegends said, it would be interesting to see what replaces them when they end/get cancelled.

I think for a new show idea, they should bring back the game shows.

Game shows don't bring in much revenue. With shows like Spongebob, they can mass produce an action figure of a single character and then go back and paint the character's shirt different just like it was in your favorite episode, then put out a new version of it and make more money.

Just look at all the useless DVD's they come out with, Nickelodeon takes advantage of children who couldn't care less about a season plot line and are satisfied with random episodes loaded onto a DVD.

Spongebob is ok in my book. I do like some of the early episodes but the new ones are just eh not good. The death of Nick came around the cancellation of CatDog (which I think is the last show that I call a NickToon, that was good.) and Rugrats got the movie made. The movie was good (not the second one), but the episodes after the movie fell off the charts in comparison to the older ones in how bad they were.

Nick has jumped the shark, but I wouldn't just blame it on one thing.

Nickeloden has a reputation on cartoons, not just "real people" shows.

Nickeloden now just produces 3 cartoons, Spongebob, OddParents, and Avatar.

Of these 3, just 1 has a plot.

Spongebob is, sadly, getting old fast.  While it is tough to compare to the Simpsons, if Spongebob could get out of a slump, they could really pick things up, and even be competition.

OddParents, I expect, will stop after 2 maybe 3 years.
They have jumped the shark very recently by adding a new character to the lineup.  This is never good for keeping a show good.

Nick has experimented with other cartoons in the past few years, including Jimmy Neutron, Catscratch, and Danny Phantom; and has a few cartoons where we are not sure if they are still being made or not, like Barnyard, Tak, El Tigre, and whatnot.

Spongebob and OddParents seem to be dying out, but Avatar seems to have a nice hold.

Avatar has classic animation, but it does have a plot.  Plots are good for keeping people on a channel.  I'm pretty sure that Avatar is the only show on Nickeloden that has a plot.  On the other shows, it helps to have watch previous episodes, but you can just watch episodes out of order.

Imagine watching a random episode of LOST.  And you have never seen an episode before.  You just can't do it.

Avatar has been a really good show, and I love it, but it has a limited number of seasons, 4.  So, in 2 years, things might be really bad for Nick.

Nick is going to have to create a TV show that can stand the test of time, won't have to create new characters, and people will watch it.

Nick also needs to have some good "real people" shows.  It needs to have a show as funny as Drake & Josh, but where the main characters don't get pregnant (if you know what I mean   )

If Nick doesn't do something really productive really soon, I can imagine another buy-in, like Nick GaS.

That would be weird if they did just show a random episode of LOST.  I hate it that its not going to show new episodes in five weeks.

No, I mean that you were just browsing on TV, and you found a channel where they were showing LOST episodes, not on Nick.

You have to be a LOST fan to understand what is happening, and even if you are a fan, you still don't understand everything.

I didn't mean that LOST will come on Nick.  Phhh... That is almost a joke.
