LOTHT Wild Jungle Edition

Season 1, Layout 5, Episode 19

(The camera zooms in on an ancient lush jungle, the palms are moving away as an elephant is heard. All the palms are gone, showing Olmec)

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle

(The camera shifts to the temple and its rooms)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now.

(Kirk is seen coming down the steps of the temple)

Kirk: Thank you, thank you! It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Journal of Lewis and Clark.

Kirk: Ah, the Journal of Lewis and Clark! Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Journal! Will it be The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They're going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and here's how they're gonna have to do it today.

One player from each team is standing on a platform that is attached to an ancient rope above them by a pole. When I say go, the player will pull themselves across the water using the rope. When the player steps onto the deck, her partner will pull the platform in and cross the exact same way. Once the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here, and hit the gong! (Kirk hits the Red Jaguars' gong) The first four teams to hit their gongs go on to the next round. Hey teams, are you ready?

Teams: Yeeaaahhh!!!!

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?

Olmec: Let's rock!

Kirk: On your marks, get set, go!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: We've got our four teams! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Red Jaguars....and the Blue Barracudas....and the Green Monkeys.....and the Purple Parrots! Orange Iguanas and Silver Snakes gave it a great effort too. They will not be going away empty handed though, here's what we have for them:

(The Silver Snakes and Orange Iguanas will each be receiving a backpack from Eastpak Backpacks each)

Kirk: As we continue our quest, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the The Journal of Lewis and Clark. But teams, pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: In the days of President Thomas Jefferson lived two young men, with the names of Meriwether Lewis, and William Clark. In 1803, Lewis and Clark were summoned to Jefferson's office.

Jefferson: We want to open the west of America for trade and settlement. You think you guys can do it?

Lewis: Of course! We're all set!

Olmec: And he pulled out a leather journal, and set out on this important expedition - down the Columbia River towards the Pacific Ocean. Working their way further and further into the wild west, they collected maps and drew maps of uncharted areas in their journal. Legend has it they returned to Jefferson after their sucessful trip, and showed him all the drawings and notes - and Jefferson was very impressed.

Jefferson: Great work, boys! You'll be famous some day!

Olmec: And of course they became very famous, but their journal was soon forgotten. Your quest is to retrieve the Journal of Lewis and Clark and bring it back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, so tell us, where is this the journal?

(Camera shows the journal, then zooms out to show its location)

Olmec: The Journal of Lewis and Clark can be found in the Mouth of the Jaguar.

Kirk: OK, Olmec. Teams, you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about the legend you just heard. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're first, your step will light up. Go ahead, stomp down!

(Purple stomps down first)

Kirk: Purple Parrots, you rang in first, so you have to answer the question. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. If you're wrong or run out of time, I'm going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

Kirk: We've got our two teams who are going the Temple Games! They are the Green Monkeys and the Purple Parrots! The Blue Barracudas and the Red Jaguars gave it a great effort too, and they are not going home empty handed. We got a cool prize for both of them, and here it is.

(The Blue Barracudas and the Red Jaguars will be going home with a $50 Savings Bond from Sketchers each)

Kirk: These two teams will compete for the right to enter Olmec's Temple,  right after this!

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let's give it up from Bill and Julia of the Green Monkeys, and Derek and Louise of the Purple Parrots!

Kirk: Why don't you teams go and get ready for your games, and I'll explain what's going to happen here. In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. (Kirk holds up a pendant). They need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and this is temple game #1:

Lewis and Clark's expedition covered lots of uncharted land, which meant there was no maps for them, so for areas which had maps, they needed to find as much information as possible. When I say go, make your way out to the end, grab a map, and return here and place it in your bin. Beware of the swinging bags above! The first player to collect all six maps, or the player that's furthest along at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Maps are tricky little things to find! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, go!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Oh! Time's up! The Green Monkeys had one...two...three...four maps! And the Purple Parrots had one...two...three maps, the Green Monkeys get the half pendant of life! Purple Parrots can catch up in the next game because it's also worth a half pendant, and here it is, over here:

Lewis and Clark needed to rest in an Indian Tribe during the winter of 1804 before moving on to the Columbia River. All you have to do is bring your supplies there. When I say go, run out to the middle of the platform, drop a bag of supplies, then run back, grab another bag, run out, and drop it at the end of the platform. The first player to drop both bags of supplies wins!

Alright, get ready! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Okay, stop! The Purple Parrots returned first, so they get the half pendant. The third and final game is worth a full pendant and here it is:

Most of Lewis and Clark's expedition was done by canoe. Now you have to canoe you way to the West and back.  When I say go, you'll roll your boat down the ramp and cross the rope. Then grab the lifesaver and pull yourself back. The first team to land back on the deck wins!

OK, time to explore the wild west! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: The Green Monkeys got back first! So they get the full pendant of life! So now they have one and a half pendants, the Purple Parrots have a half, the Green Monkeys are going to the temple!

Kirk: The Purple Parrots gave it a great effort too, and here's a cool prize  they're gonna take home:

(The Purple Parrots will be going home with a $100 Target gift card)

Kirk: Let's see if the Green Monkeys will retrieve the Journal, right after this!

(Camera pans to the Chameleon Chamber)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. The Green Monkeys have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But before we get started, Olmec will give us some information on how to retrieve the Journal of Lewis and Clark.

Olmec: You could start by running to the Room of the Three Gargoyles. Push in the right tongue, and pass into the Pit of the Fallen Logs. Next, climb into the Mouth of the Jaguar. Place the four fangs into their right places in the mouth, then descend into the Room of the Boulders, and pass into the Lush Opening. If the door unlocks below, you could climb down through the plant wall, or, try to enter the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue there, and you may be headed for the Forest Fire Room. Pull down on the burnt palms to open the door to the Wild Whirlpool. Slide down the tunnel, and plow through the stone wall into the Sacred Safari. Find the key, but beware--the elephants may be temple guards in disguise. Next, climb into the Tropical Forest. Wade through the room, and you will enter the Chameleon Chamber. Change the color of the correct chameleon to release the doors. Then, you can crawl through the Pit and through the Mining Chamber, back to the temple gates. The choices are yours and yours alone. Good luck!

Kirk: Okay, you guys won one and a half pendants in the temple games, and here they are. Now, who's going first?

Julia: I am!

Kirk: Right, when I say go, you will race through the gates into the temple and you'll make your way towards the Journal of Lewis and Clark. But be careful?the Temple has many locked doors and dead ends. Also hidden in the Temple there are also Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. If you enter one of those rooms, a Temple Guard will jump out and grab you. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Bill's turn to enter and try her luck. Hidden in the temple is the other half pendant, Bill. When you find it, you can complete your pendant and you will earn an extra life. If you can reach the Journal, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. You'll have three minutes, and for your efforts you will both be handsomely rewarded?and here's how!

Dee: For just going into the temple, you'll each be getting a sports package from Regent Sports. If you grab the Journal before three minutes is up, you'll also be getting an 6th Generation iPod Classic. Store up to 80 gigabytes of songs, videos, and photos! From Apple. And if you bring the Journal of the temple before three minutes is up, you'll be going to the Bahamas! And you'll be staying at the Bahamas Princess Resort, complete with lots of fun and world-class family entertainment! From Bahamas Princess Resort!

Kirk: Wow....let's see if they can get it all. Let's get in position here, mouthpieces in! Let's put three minutes on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!!!

(Julia races into the Mining Chamber to meet her first temple guard! She hands him the pendant and quickly scrambles up to the door to the Pit of the Fallen Logs with 2:46 left.)

(She hits the actuator, then rapidly jumps into the Pit. Climbing a rope, she hits the actuator to the Room of the Boulders with 2:38 left)

(She heads up the ladder, but the door to the Mouth of the Jaguar will not open. She descends and hits the actuator to the Chameleon Chamber with 2:24 left)

(Julia climbs down into the Chameleon Chamber, and hits the actuator of the far-left chameleon. Immediately it lights up green, and the door to the Tropical Forest opens with 2:27 left)

("The half pendant!" says Kirk to Bill, as Julia heads across the room, the pendant clearly hanging on the ladder. A temple guard emerges, and captures her with 2:13 left.)

(Bill races up the stairs and towards the Room of the Three Gargoyles. Before he pushes in the first tongue, a temple guard jumps out and grabs him to end the run with 1:58 left!)

Kirk: AHHHH! Temple guard got him! He couldn't get the half pendant in time, oh man! They did a great job though and they still get the sports package. We have to get outta here now, see you next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle style! Buh-bye!

(Credits scroll as the camera pans to the half-pendant in the Tropical Forest)

Olmec: Hmmmmmm....

Dee Baker: Legends of the Hidden Temple was recorded....

Artifact Name: The Journal of Lewis and Clark

Season: 1
Layout: 5
Result: Got Caught by Three Temple Guards
Time Remaining: 1:58

Well, basically, Bill pulled a "Harriet Tubman" and the run was over in just over a minute. Not much I can say about this run. The half-pendant was clearly evident, but I don't think that the team could have used it. It was really a shame, because both players were clearly much faster than the Orange Iguanas in "Harriet Tubman" in the original series.
