Welcome Back, Guts!

NEW YORK, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- GUTS, the groundbreaking, original hit game show from the '90s, is being recreated for a new generation of families as Nick at Nite greenlights My Family's Got Guts, a new extreme sports competition series. Nick at Nite will commence production on two 10-episode tournaments, (20 new half-hour episodes and two hour-long specials), created and executive produced by the digital entertainment studio Worldwide Biggies. The series will be shot on location at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla., beginning in August and is scheduled to premiere in prime time on Nick at Nite in fall 2008 with the finale on the Worldwide Day of Play.

Well, at least for a little while.

Next question: will either Mo or Mike be back?

Last I saw, they were still looking for a host, so keep your fingers crossed! I also heard that they are going to film in stage 21, where the original GUTS and Global GUTS were filmed. Now if only they could bring back the original set...

Ah, it was 21, not 22? I must have mixed up the number at some point in time. Why hasn't anybody else on the forum responded to this?

I really hope they will, but they probably won't. Nickelodeon will most likely pick out new hosts :p I hope they at least pick out decent hosts if Mike and Moira don't come back, remember DD2K? The host made the game boring.

I would argue that it wasn't Jason Harris' fault as much as it was the revised format. The whole "Triple Dare Challenge" distraction took way, way too much time out of the program between introducing it with backflipping monkeys and then, in the second round, spending so much time anticipating the team's decision whether to take it or not. The show was boring because it was designed to waste time instead of cram as much material in as possible.

Hopefully this redux GUTS will squeeze as mush excitement in as possible. Thankfully, there's less flexibility with the show's structure in GUTS as in Double Dare, though the fact that each round of play will be worth progressively more points will certainly allow a lot of undeserved victories.

And the sad thing is, I know Nickelodeon will find way to disappoint me. I am not its core audience.

The triple dare challenge was bad too, I bet they purposely wasted time so they wouldn't have to give out as much money. There weren't enough physical challenges either, that's what I wanted to see.

Yeah, I can't really see how you could waste time with GUTS. I just hope they won't be like the new Gladiators and go to a commercial break seconds before an event begins, it doesn't bring up suspense, it's annoying.

I know Nickelodeon will find a way to disappoint me and I AM apart of it's core audience

All I can say about the new GUTS is that:
A. Mike N' Mo come back
B. They use a format that is close to GUTS and Global GUTS
C. They use the same victory salute so that someone can make a midi (or equivalent) file of it for me.

But then again, just like Ed, I JUST KNOW that Nick will find some way to disappoint me. (Being that I'm WAY OUTSIDE their core audience at age 21)

Those commercial breaks during American Gladiators really are dumb, but what's dumber is that they cut 2 events out of every broadcast, and the only way you can see them is to watch the episode again on NBC.com

On subject, a GUTS revival sounds interesting. Hopefully it's not a hoax.

Really? Dang, that sounds like it spoils the game a bit. I haven't been watching AG much anyways, I can't sit still and watch something for an hour, I have short attention span. Going back on topic, I think the new GUTS is suppose to be half an hour an episode, like the original version and there's suppose to be a couple of hour or two long specials. GUTS and Legends are one of the few shows I can sit still and watch about half an hour of. Most of the time I just watch 15 minutes of tv, run around and do stuff, then take advantage of the rewind feature of the DVR.

Definatly not a hoax, but a potential disappointment depending on what you want to see from it. I'll probably somewhat disappointed seeing as their's an unlikely chance of seeing Mike or Moira on there, but it's better to learn to accept that a while before it goes on the air. I hope the arena looks the same, back in '94 and '95 the arena looked pretty awesome for it being the early to mid 90's.

Good question. I can just imagine the host saying "First it was the Aggro Crag, then it was the Mega Crag, then it was the Super Aggro Crag, now it's...." They'll probably just go back to calling it the Aggro Crag.

I was expecting Mike and Moira not to return, but it's disappointing reading someone else's name as the host of GUTS. Also, concerning the name of the Crag, WTF? I was hoping for something more epic, like what Medusa suggested:

Quote from: ""Medusa""
They should name it the "SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME ULTRA MEGA Crag for FAMILIES".

I expect my viewing experience of the new GUTS to be "WTF? Mike and Moira could do it WAY better than YOU ever can!" but perhaps I'll learn to lower my standards a bit and not yell at my poor old television too much. My voice can't be heard on the other side. Though I DO live close to Orlando where I can yell at them personally  ...Nah.

Well, Mike O' Malley is still in the entertainment business. I saw the movie "Meet Dave" in July, and Mike was a supporting character (he played an NYPD officer). I wonder if he would have accepted the role of host again, if he was offered.

I'm not sure what Mo is doing now. I think she does some cartoon voices.

I know that she was a comedian for a while.

I don't suppose Mike or Moira would have accepted to come back anyways. Looking at Mike's imdb page, it looks like he's been busy doing a ton of stuff and Moira seems pretty busy with comedy and doing voices for podcasting. I would have liked to have seen "Meet Dave" just to see Mike doing something, but I heard it wasn't really good, so I'll just wait until HBO or some other channel shows it.

First of all, it's GREAT hearing from you again, RP. Kinda missed your good sense of humor.

Secondly, OMG RP!!! LMAO, that is SO TRUE!!! The fact that you came around and said that takes the weirdness out of calling it the "ICE CRAG". However, in the words of a famous tragic poet:

Quote from: ""William Shakespeare""
What's in a name? That which we call a rose/ By any other name would smell as sweet. (Act 2, Scene 2, Lines 1-2)

So, to take a lesson from Mr. Shakespeare, we should EMBRACE and not SHUN the newly born ICE CRAG. Even though it's not a reincarnation of Legends, we should look upon the reincarnation of Guts as a GLORIOUS event, and look past the trivial to see the beauty that is a reincarnation of a part of "the good old days" of early 1990's Nickelodeon!

It took me about half an hour of watching Nickelodeon to see the commercial (during the evening if it helps). It's worth having to watch Nickelodeon to see it. Just choose a decent show to watch (iCarly, Drake and Josh or Spongebob) and wait for it.

Makes you wish that people would try to do a BIT of research and use a little common sense  Seriously. Kinda like how people believe something "because Wikipedia/IMDB/ect. said so".

The fact that the youtube users didn't even bother to take 2 minutes to find out that GUTS isn't a ripoff of ninja warrior is kinda ignorant. Eh, we shouldn't get worked up about things like that, but it does make you want to bang your head up against a wall or something from other's stupidity and ignorance. I guess they'll just look exceptionally stupid yelling "ripoff" even though ninja warrior isn't a lot like GUTS. Ugh, makes me not want to watch Ninja Warrior anymore.

Sometimes I wish Nickelodeon would advertise this as a revival, now we're gonna have tons of clueless dumb ones calling Guts a ripoff of anything remotely similar to it.

LOL!!! You BOTH need to post a "Retaliation" vid against those youtube newbs!!! I recommend something with the copyright dates of BOTH GUTS and Ninja Warrior!

Of course, all the retards on YouTube are calling it a ripoff of "Ninja Warrior"   Even though that show started 5 years after GUTS did, and has nothing in common with it.

Hah, well, like I said, they'll look dumb when they're posting crap like that with tons of thumbs downs next to their comments. Especially dumb since they're basing their claim on a simple promo that doesn't describe how the game works.

I have a slight anger problem so I have to rant on things that bother me sometimes =P

Really? You don't seem THAT angry to me. Or is it one of those "You don't know me very well, do you?" kind of things?

Slightly both. The only feelings I express (in real life, of course) are extreme sadness and anger. I keep positive things bottled up inside of me for some odd reason. Like I never go out and say positive things about something I like. In fact, sometimes I'm more comfortable ridiculing people or things I like. But enough about my mental issues.

Back on topic, we're just 2 weeks away from the premiere of the new GUTS. Makes me excited just thinking about it. I remember hearing about it back in May and going "Wow, this fall is gonna take forever to get here!", but man, it's almost here now! I think it gets more exciting when the promos are on tv and people get to talking more about it. Even though this is really really awesome, it's equally strange. Why bring back gameshows? Why revive an old idea? Why revive Guts? Of all the positive things that could possibly happen to Nickelodeon, this definatly has to be among the best, but in my mind, I always thought "They should revive GUTS or Legends some day...nah, they'd never do that!" but here we are awaiting GUTS's new episodes. It's pretty cool that a new generation will be able to enjoy GUTS, but sadly they won't be able to enjoy Mike's enthusiasm and Moira's funny jokes about Mike's enthusiasm.

Well, I kinda posted a retaliation comment haha....I of course noted that GUTS started in 1992, Ninja Warrior in 1997. I also noticed that this person calling GUTS a ripoff also couldn't spell (he called Guts "epic loose"), and when I looked at his page, he looked like he was about 10 years old. Just a typical YouTube idiot.

As for the new show, it really surprised me. It followed the original a lot closer than I thought it would, even right down to the piece of the radical rock and the "No ifs ands or buts, this family's got GUTS!" The events were great, the Crag was great, but the problem was that everything seems to be a lot shorter than it was, and there are only three events this time instead of four (counting the Crag.) And of course, everyone knows noone can host GUTS like Mike and Mo did, but the new hosts did a decent job. They could've hired someone worse, I'm sure. Other than that, I enjoyed it and I will be watching even more of the show.

It's a surge in the brain.

No, it's Nickelodeon's new gameshow which I believe is based on Get the Picture. Losers are sent down the Brain Drain to be slimed.

Just read the article, will ya? :P

The N -----> TeeNick

They're not going off the air, just letting the former Nickelodeon blocks go onto 24-hour channels. And that means All That and Keenan and Kel will be returning! :D

They finally have a teaser video of Brainsurge. It's starting to look good, so it's guaranteed that I'll be watching this one. It kinda looks like a Korean or Japanese show that I've seen on Youtube. Anyone can tell me what that show is?
Title: Maybe Nick hasn't given up on game shows yet...

It's not as much like Get The Picture as we think, I guess. But it does look interesting...

Oh god, those Japanese gameshows are so weird; I don't watch them so I wouldn't know what you're talking about. But for some reason that set looks so rushed, so boring... But the Brain Drain is an ear? :?

Hmmm...I'd say MFGG looked better than this. Of course, I'd have to watch the show. And the concept of bringing up audience members to do challenges reminds me of What Would You Do in a way, complete with a slimy punishment. Perhaps they combined What Would You Do, Get the Picture, and some different ideas to get BrainSurge?

Could the show's second season finally be airing here in the US?
