Title: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Purple vs. Silver
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 13, 2014, 11:44:39 PM
So I thought I'd something new here, this time rating the color combinations on the show. First we're gonna cover the Steps of Knowledge pairs, and then move on to the temple games. Please keep in mind it's not about the Steps of Knowledge rounds. We're rating these match ups based on how the colors looked, and the episodes that featured that pair. I hope this makes sense. ;)

Steps of Knowledge Ratings:

So without further ado, let's start with the Steps of Knowledge combinations Red-Blue-Green-Orange. :mrred: :mrblue:  :mrorange:

 :jaguars2: :barracudas2: :monkeys2: :iguanas2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 8 episodes)
The Helmet of Joan of Arc
The Jeweled Necklace of Montezuma
The Lost Love Letter of Captain John Smith
The Mask of the Man in the Iron Mask
The Pearl Necklace of Gwalior
The Comet-Embroidered Battle Flag of William the Conqueror
The Bifocal Monocle of One-Eyed Jack
The Paintbrush of Leonardo Da Vinci

My vote and reasoning will come in the next post. ;)

I gave this match up an 8. I happen to like these colors together, they looked really nice. For some reason, I always think of a rainbow or the toucan on the Fruit Loops box whenever I think of this pair. And besides Bifocal Monocle, none of the episodes that featured this combination was bad at all. Most of those episodes were average, but not bad in any way.

And yes, I am going in order of Purple/Silver not making it out of the moat, Orange/Silver not making it out of the moat, etc. So Red-Blue-Green-Purple will come tomorrow. In case you were wondering on the order I was gonna set it up in. ;)

I went with an 8 because I love the way these colors go together but none of the episodes featured were any of my absolute favorites. I almost gave these a 7, but they really are a nice looking combo, and it was sort of rare for the leftmost or rightmost four teams to make it beyond the moat.

Yeah, none of these episodes were spectacular in any way. Out of that list, the only failed escape they had was Battle Flag. Which coincidentally is the only Green Monkey run on the above list. But I really liked how those colors looked together, which is why I ranked it as high as I did. ;)

I gave this combination a 7 also. I like the color pairing with this combo, especially considering this was the order that Kirk introduced the teams in. :P Plus, I always thought that Red and Blue looked nice together. I am not a big fan of the episode selection though as most of those episodes were pretty average. The only episode I actually like is William the Conqueror. And the only one I hate is Bifocal Monocle. Coincidentally, both were on the same day. The one thing I like about this pairing though is the equal representation for all of the teams. No team really dominates this combination. If only it had a better episode selection, I would give it a higher score.  ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Orange
Post by: AimYourBrent on May 14, 2014, 02:24:50 PM
That makes total sense so no argument here.

The reason I went as high as I did was because for me 8 is going to be sort of the middle ground. I'm not going to be dishing out anything lower than a 6, and 10s will be reserved for combinations that produced all time legendary episodes.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Orange
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 14, 2014, 03:00:21 PM
My high scores would come from how really nice the colors looked, especially ones with Blue, Green, and Purple together. And like Brent said, the episodes that featured said match up plays a factor in my voting too. But I also agree with TRJ that if these selection of episodes were better, I would've ranked this A LOT higher. ;)

Also, this poll has 6 votes so far. :o And it's not all unanimous, which is definitely not a bad thing.

I can't wait until we get to the Red-Blue-Orange-Purple steps that featured episodes such as Atocha, Annie Taylor, Catherine the Great, and Atahualpa. That will probably be one of the highest ranking ones. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Orange
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 14, 2014, 03:17:17 PM
Oh yeah, every episode except Belshazzar featured some of the very best episodes ever. And even Belshazzar wasn't so bad. Just average compared the rest of the episodes. Too bad it was a rare match up, and I did like that pair. ;) The colors could've looked a little better though. But with all the episodes it was featured in, I'll let it slide. :mrred: :mrblue: :mrorange: :mrpurple:

I'm gonna give this one a 7 because the colors looked really nice and tropical, but the episodes are pretty unremarkable.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Orange
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 14, 2014, 03:47:48 PM
Yeah, tropical was exactly what I was thinking when looking at these colors. Like I said in my reasoning, I always think of the toucan on the Fruit Loops box whenever I think of these colors. Too bad none of these episodes were remarkable, besides Battle Flag.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Orange

And they are also complimentary colors, red with green and blue with orange, which is a big part of why they look so good together.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Orange
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 14, 2014, 11:23:33 PM
And with 7 votes, and a 7.14 average, time to end the poll for Red-Blue-Green-Orange. :mrred: :mrblue:  :mrorange: I had a feeling this poll would catch on more than the moat topic did.

Up next is Red-Blue-Green-Purple. :mrred: :mrblue:  :mrpurple:

 :jaguars2: :barracudas2: :monkeys2: :parrots2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 9 episodes)
The Stone Marker of Leif Eriksson
The Treasure of Anne Bonny
The Treasure Map of Jean Lafitte
The Missing Portrait of Hans Holbein
Ponce de' Leon and the Lost Fountain of Youth
The Good-Luck Watch of Empress Eugenie
The Lost Hornpipe of the Pirate Captain
The Bone Necklace of the Blackfeet Chief
The Sacred Ring of Sultan Suleiman

My vote and reasoning will come in my next post. And yes a table added to the OP is to come. ;)

Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 14, 2014, 11:35:20 PM
I gave this match up a 9. This was by far was favorite combination on the whole show. All four colors looked beautiful together, especially when the combination happened in the latter two seasons. I would've given this pair a perfect 10, but I took off a point because besides Good Luck Watch and Lost Hornpipe, most of these episodes were average to just plain bad. And like with Red-Blue-Green-Orange, none of the four teams really dominate this match up either, which is good. Either way, I love this pair, and these colors go excellently together. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Purple
Post by: The Red Jaguars on May 15, 2014, 12:34:22 AM
I gave this combination a 9 also. This combination featured some of the best team colors on Legends. I am not a big fan of anything with Orange and Silver in it. And the teams in this combination are ones that I like. I also think the episode selection is good. I like Anne Bonny, Empress Eugenie, Pirate Captain, and Blackfeet Chief. The only episode I can't stand is Jean Lafitte. And just like with the last combo, I like how the teams had equal distribution of going to the temple. And it also didn't dominate just one season either. Since I like the appearance, the episode selection, and the nice distribution, it will end with a high score. ;)

I was torn between an 8 and a 9 but went high and gave it a 9. Some good episodes came from this tandem and it really is a great mix of colors.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Purple
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 15, 2014, 01:01:15 AM
I agree, episodes like Bone Necklace and even Sacred Ring pre temple were pretty good too. Though it does have some forgettable episodes like Stone Marker (gasp!) and Ponce de Leon in that mix. And then there are some downright infuriating episodes like Anny Bonny and Jean Lafitte. Other than that though, these colors looked absolutely amazing together. And all four teams got a chance too, like already mentioned. ;)

And what a coincidence, I just watched Good Luck Watch and Lost Hornpipe today. With both the same steps AND temple game pairs. How fitting. :mrpurple:

I have a feeling this may be the highest rated combination. Either that or Red-Blue-Orange-Purple, that's coming up in a few days. The latter isn't a bad combination either, but like TRJ mentioned above, there are a lot of pairs that look better without Orange or Silver. ;)

There's also some rad looking combinations that involve silver, to be fair. I'm a big fan of the  Green-Orange-Purple-Silver mix. All secondary colors, no primaries, very interesting visually.

Eh, that match up was okay. Like I said before, I'm not really a fan of combinations that feature too much Orange or Silver. The Discarded Seal and Golden Pepperoni had that match up though, so there's a plus. ;)

The Mysterious Manuscript of Mary Shelley
The Stone Head of the Evil King
Pecos Bill's Lost Lariat
The Jeweled Scabbard of Sforza
The Mussel Shell Armor of Apanuugpak
The Plumed Headdress of Cosa Rara
Henry VIII's Great Seal
The Collar of Davy Crockett
The Enormous Iron Nose Ring of Babe
The Medal of Sir Edmund Hillary
The Star of Sultan Saladin
The War Fan of the 47 Ronin

My vote and reasoning will, like usual, come in the next post. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Silver
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 15, 2014, 11:35:58 PM
I gave this match up a 6. It had some GREAT episodes (Great Seal, Apanuugpak, Sultan Saladin, etc.) to come from the pair. And a lot of these teams won too, or at least had a noteworthy episode in it. But what really drags it down for me, is that this combination was WAY overused, especially in Season 1. It seemed like every other episode had this same match up. Plus, unlike the previous two pairs we have covered, this set of colors looked kind of bland together. I would've given it a 5, but I figure a 6 would've been fitting since it did have some awesome episodes to come from this pair, whether it was a win or not. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Silver
Post by: AimYourBrent on May 15, 2014, 11:36:54 PM
I initially gave this combo a 7, but changed it to a 6. It has a couple notable episodes, and more episodes total than any of the other combinations we've seen so far. But I just don't enjoy this particular group of colors together as much as others. Red, Blue, and Green are such dominant colors and then you have Silver just sticking out kind of awkwardly.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Silver

I gave this one a 6. I am not a big fan of anything Green and Silver on the same combination, but I do I like the great episode selection  though. A lot of classic episodes and wins are used with this combination. Also, there are way too much episodes for one combination and the Red Jaguars literally only made it to the temple one time. If it wasn't for the great episode selection, I would've given this one a lower score. Here are the episodes I like:

The Helmet of Genghis Khan
The Belly Button of Buddha
Pecos Bill's Lost Lariat
The Jeweled Scabbard of Sforza
The Mussel-Shell Armor of Apanuugpak
Henry VIII's Great Seal
The Collar of Davy Crockett
The Enormous Iron Nose Ring of Babe
The Medal of Sir Edmund Hillary
The Star of Sultan Saladin

I'm honestly surprised Genghis Khan is the only temple run listed up there. You'd think with how much they advanced from that pair, they'd have more temple appearances. And like Brent said, Silver is what really makes this pair stick out like a sore thumb. Red, Blue, and Green look so great together, but Silver kind of ruins it.

And here's a fun fact: 3/4 Green Monkey runs come from beating Blue in the temple games. And 4/6 Silver Snake runs come from beating Red. Silver definitely dominates this list here. But if it's any consolation, tomorrow's match up will be much better. ;)

It's amazing that almost 1/5 of the episodes on the show used the same combination. Yet, you have the combination used in Priceless Portrait only use like 3-4 times?

Was there any combination on the show that was not used?
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Silver
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 15, 2014, 11:54:11 PM
No. Every combination was used at least four times. Blue-Orange-Purple-Silver and Blue-Green-Orange-Purple were the rarest with four appearances each. Also, the pair tomorrow was not used a lot. And I'll say it yet again: I'm looking forward to it. ;)

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Green-Silver

And here are all the temple game match ups that happened when this combination occurred:
Red/Blue: Genghis Khan, Buddha, Scheherazade
Red/Green: Apanuugpak
Red/Silver: Sultan Saladin, Sir Edmund Hilary, Davy Crockett, War Fan (all had Silver Snakes going to the temple)
Blue/Green: Pecos Bill, Electrified Key, Cosa Rara, Sforza
Blue/Silver: Great Seal, Stone Head, Mysterious Manuscript (2/3 being Blue Barracuda runs, and had an epic fail in the temple run)
Green/Silver: Enormous Iron Nose Ring

So every combination between those four teams happened. Same can be said for Red-Blue-Green-Purple. Come to think of it, not many pairs had all four possible color combinations happen.

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 5 episodes)
The Golden Cup of Belshazzar
The Jewel-Encrusted Egg of Catherine the Great
The Golden Jaguar of Atahualpa
The Lucky Pillow of Annie Taylor
The Lucky Medallion of Atocha

My vote and reasoning will come in the next post. ;)

I gave this match up an 8. Some of the very best episodes on the show came from this matchup, (Catherine the Great, Atocha, and Lucky Pillow), and two of those aforementioned episodes were on the same day. Even the non winning episodes like Belshazzar and Atahualpa, weren't so bad either. For some reason, I always think of pixie sticks whenever I think of this layout. Probably because they come with the exact same set of colors as this combination does. The colors looked.... alright together. It wasn't as pretty as Red-Blue-Green-Purple, but it was still a neat looking pair. Too bad this combination was pretty rare, only used in a mere 5 episodes. And too bad we never got a Purple Parrot episode out of this match up either. But the episodes on the above list were simply amazing, and that and how nice these colors looked solidifies my vote. ;)

10.

Rareness isn't inherently a negative thing. It makes something special and unique.

I personally love these four colors together in any setting. I enjoy the even mix of primary and secondary colors.

And is it even possible to overstate the significance of my favorite episode, team, and individual player coming from this combination?!

This is the group I was waiting for. I know some will think my ranking is a little high, but I'm sticking to my guns on this one for sure.

I. LOVE. THIS. COMBINATION.

I gave this combo a 10. I love this pairing both aesthetically and selection wise. The Purple Parrots had some really bad luck with this combo, but I love the episode selection. Annie Taylor, Catherine the Great, and Lucky Medallion are some of my top 10 favorite episodes! Atahualpa is an underrated failed escape and Belshazzar was the first episode ever, so you can't really say anything bad about it. I like how the first and last episode recorded were from the same combo. I love this combo and it gave us some of the best episodes ever.  ;)

So much for the "9 gap."

But yeah, these colors looked nice together, and they had some amazing episodes from this pair. Even Belshazzar wasn't bad. And like you said, it was the first ever episode recorded. So I'll definitely cut that episode some slack. While the Purple Parrots didn't have great luck with this pair, they did advance 3/5 times from this pair, if that helps. ;)

Here's some interesting tidbits regarding the SOK pair Red-Blue-Orange-Purple:
- Two golden artifact were from Season 1 (Golden Cup, Golden Jaguar)
- Two lucky artifacts were from Season 2 (Lucky Medallion, Lucky Pillow, filmed the same day to boot)
- The Purple Parrots advanced 3/5 times from this pair. :mrpurple:
- There were 4/5 artifact grabs from this pair too. (credit goes to TRJ for this tibdit)
- Two were Red Jaguar runs, and two were Blue Barracuda runs. (credit goes to TRJ for this tibdit)
- Both the first AND last episode filmed had both this pair, and were Red Jaguar runs.
- Not only that, but both Belshazzar and Catherine the Great were the only runs where the team won more than one pendant.
- Furthermore, both Belshazzar and Catherine the Great were the only runs out of that pair to not come down to a tiebreaker.

Most of these facts brought to you by the trivia thread.
So many coincidences for such a rare match up.

Up next is Red-Blue-Orange-Silver. :mrred: :mrblue: :mrorange: :mrsilver:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 6 episodes)
Blackbeard's Treasure Map

The Dragon Lady and the Blue Pearl
The Golden Stallion of Ali Baba
The Stolen Arm of Shiva
The Secret Map of the Bandit Queen

My vote and reasoning will come in the next post. ;)

I gave this match up a 2. This is my absolute least favorite combination on the show. To me, these colors looked extremely ugly together, no matter what season it was used in. And besides Blue Pearl and Bandit Queen, the episodes to feature this pair were average to just plain terrible. I'm glad this was one of the more rare match ups, these colors were a complete eyesore.

What an eyesore of a combination! It had like everything that could possibly be wrong with it. First off, the Blue Barracudas stick out like a sore thumb compared to the other colors. And secondly, the episode selection is just bad. Blackbeard, Alhambra, and Shiva are episodes that I will never watch again. I also like how the Blue Barracudas don't even advance to the temple games once. :? I am going to give this combo a 2. If it wasn't for Blue Pearl and Bandit Queen, then it would've gotten a lowly 1.

Yeah, I would've given this a 1 too if it weren't for Bandit Queen or Blue Pearl. Seriously, this combination makes me queasy just thinking about it. O_O

And I hate to disappoint everyone, but a lot of the match ups coming up aren't very good either. But I guess you can say these bad match ups would serve for more interesting discussion. Or whatever you want to make of it.

I gave this combination a 5 because I'm a nice person  :P

This is one of my least favorite mixes just aesthetically. These colors just don't go together very well. Blue and orange next to each other are what saves it. You can't go wrong with that combo.

A couple pretty good episodes from this grouping, but a few total duds as well. I didn't think I would even go lower than a 6 for any of these, but I will for this one. I know this number is going to seem high to you guys, but for me, this score is low.

I wanted to give this combination a 7. I really did. I enjoy the way these colors look together. And there are a couple notably good episodes here. But this mix gave us Cricket Cage. That's unforgivable and I have to dock it for that. I gave it a 6. But I really do enjoy the colors themselves a lot. If it were just based on that and we didn't take episode quality into consideration at all, I would have gone 8 or 9.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Purple-Silver
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 18, 2014, 11:35:36 PM
I gave this match up a 5. The colors looked pretty nice together for the most part. Though they looked much better in the Season 3 episodes this combination was used in (Red Sash, Smashed Printing Plate), then it did in Season 1. But what drags it way down for me, was the episode selection. The episodes featured in this pair were literally, either really really good (John Sutter, King Tut, Red Sash), or really really bad, (whatever I didn't just mention). I also didn't like the lack of consistency this combination had. It was way overused in Season 1, not at all in Season 2, and very rarely in Season 3. For such a repetitive combination, you'd think it would appear in more episodes outside of Season 1. But it did give us one amazing episode, being John Sutter. If there's one positive thing I can say. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Blue-Purple-Silver
Post by: The Red Jaguars on May 18, 2014, 11:39:24 PM
The colors for this combo were... "meh". 6/8 of the episodes were from Season 1, so the Blue used during that season makes this combo look ugly. And Silver and Purple really don't go together. And the episode selection has two different extremes. I love Lost Gold Mine, Red Sash, Cobra Staff, and           . But I hate Smashed Printing Plate, Mata Hari, and Lucky Pig. Also, this type combination has Golden Cricket Cage.               And like I mentioned, there was too much Season 1 with this combo. And three of the episodes were from the same day. I am going to give this one a 5.

If it helps, Purple advanced 5/8 times with this pair. And episodes like Cricket Cage, Silk Ladder, and Lucky Pig should've been Purple Parrot temple runs as well. Oh yeah, and Smashed Printing Plate. I really wish these combinations were better, but we're definitely getting into the worst territory now. Are there any particular match ups you guys are looking forward to, at all? Just wondering.

I gave this one a 6.

I really enjoy the combinations that feature all three secondary colors. The red adds a nice touch to go along with them. So this is a very visually pleasing combination for me.

Unfortunately, not the greatest selection of episodes. So that drags it down somewhat.

Not bad, not spectacular. Pretty average but still good looking, hence my score.

I gave this match up a 2. Why must some of the combinations suck so badly? These colors looked hideous together, and with the exception of Dolley Madison, (and maybe Melted Head), the episode selection here is just terrible. If it helps, Purple did advance 4/6 times from this pair. But the only thing that keeps me from giving this combination a 1 is Dolley Madison being one of the episodes with this match up. Just.... eww.

I gave this one a 1. Now this is the worst combination on the show. This color combo is so ugly. It is like Halloween and Christmas colors mixed together. Also, the episode selection is less than desirable too. The only episode I actually like is Dolley Madison. And all of the Orange Iguana temple teams beat the Purple Parrots. Ugly combination, crappy episode selection, and bad variety makes this one of the worst combos ever.

I'm sorry that my score is so much higher than everyone else's. I really, REALLY enjoy green, orange, and purple together. Plus green and orange were sort of the unofficial Nick colors for a really long time.

Maybe I should start allowing the episode selection to weigh more heavily with my scores. Because in that case I would drop this down to maybe a 3 or 4.

I just don't like how Red, Green, and Orange look. That's my main problem with it. And Green and Orange together don't look that great either, with some exceptions. Purple is the only thing that saves it, if it's any consolation.

I gave this match up a 6. It's BY FAR better than Red-Green-Orange-Purple, but I still don't like how these colors look together. Plus, this pair was also pretty overused, being the second most common match up on the show. On the flip side, some of the best episodes on the show (Lion Headed Bracelet, Benzibab, Lawrence of Arabia) come from this pair. :mrsilver: And the only episodes I REALLY hate on the above list are Bent Shaving Pan and Dried Apple Half. This was an alright combination, but the colors don't go very well together. And that's what drags it down for me.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Green-Orange-Silver

I gave this combo a 7. I am definitely not a fan of the colors at all, but at the same time I don't really hate them either. Not sure the reasoning, but it might be because the Orange and Silver stick out. I do like the episode selection though. Chandragupta, Lawrence of Arabia, Two-Cornered Hat Ruby Earring, and Roland were episodes I really like. Word on Bent Shaving Pan and William Tell. I HATE those episodes with a passion. Despite having a lot of episodes, I like how almost each color has an equal representation for temple teams. I like this combo overall due to the nice episode selection and even distribution among each teams. I also like how all the Orange temple teams beat the Green Monkeys in the temple games.   :mrorange:
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Green-Orange-Silver

Also, Silver beat Green both times in the above list. Both Season 3 episodes, and took 2 pendants to the temple. ;) The Green Monkeys also had an excellent track record with this match up. They advanced from it in every episode except for Napoleon. :mrred: And what a coincidence that we just covered this very same combination in the List Game. That took over a week to finish to boot.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Green-Orange-Silver
Post by: AimYourBrent on May 21, 2014, 01:34:40 AM
This got a 9 from me.

Chandragupta is my 2nd favorite episode of all time and Laurance of Arabia is probably in my top 5, and Roland is good as well.

There are a couple duds, but other than that it's a really great lineup of episodes plus a few notorious ones. (Shaka Zulu).

And I do enjoy these colors together. Not as much as other combos, but I can't knock that episode selection.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Red-Green-Orange-Silver
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 21, 2014, 01:38:24 AM
Yeah, there are A LOT of great episodes from this combination. Especially episodes like Lawrence of Arabia and Chandragupta. The colors looked alright together, I especially liked how they looked in Season 3. Must be the lighting. And coincidentally, this pair was used the most in 7 episodes that season. So it does work out. ;)

Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on May 21, 2014, 01:55:36 AM
And I did this for Red-Blue-Green-Silver, here's all the temple game match ups from this pair:

Red/Green: Roland, Shaka Zulu, Lawrence of Arabia (Two quick Red Jaguar victories to boot)
Red/Orange: Napoleon
Green/Orange: Dead Man's Hand, Empress Theodora, Bent Shaving Pan, Thornwood Gavel (3/4 being Orange Iguana runs)
Green/Silver: Chandragupta, Dried Apple Half, Benzibab, Poseidon

Green/Orange and Green/Silver occurred the most with this match up. And 7/12 episodes were 2 pendant runs. Yay random stats.

I gave this match up a 7. I really like these colors together, even though it's not the greatest looking pair in the world. The Green and Purple definitely save it from being a complete eyesore. Also, this combination had a GREAT selection of episodes here, Applewood Amulet, Snakeskin Boots, Freydis, and Metal Beard to name a few. :mrpurple: Also, all three Purple Parrot victories come from this match up too. Which is a very interesting coincidence. So it gets bonus points for me for that alone. :mrpurple: :mrpink: The only bad episodes on this list are Golden Goblet, Nzinga, and Golden Spider Web. But the rest of the episodes here average to just great. This was a nice combination overall. ;)

I gave this combo a 9. I like the color coordination with this combo, even if the Silver Snakes never made it to the temple once. This combo is also very memorable where I can remember most of the episodes from it. And the episode selection is great too! Applewood Amulet, Queen Boadicea, and the three Purple Parrot wins are all classics. Even Ahmed Baba and Icarus are interesting episodes. There are a couple of episodes I avoid like Robert the Bruce and Queen Nzinga, but I like everything else about it. A very memorable combo.  :mrpurple:

Yeah, I thought it was a memorable combination too. I know the colors didn't look very pretty, but it wasn't THAT bad. What a coincidence that both Metal Beard AND Freydis is up for voting in the tourney thread. And I couldn't ask for better episodes to vote for, in either thread. :mrpurple: :mrpink: What do you think would be your favorite episode out of the episodes on this list? ;) There's so many good ones, it's hard to choose. :o

Tough choice, but I think it is either Freydis or Emiliano Zapata. Both had some of the most exciting runs on the show and the rest of the episodes are great. Freydis would definitely be my choice though.  :mrpurple:

Yeah, Applewood Amulet or Freydis would be my choices as well, going with Freydis. :mrpurple: And here's another coincidence: Red-Green-Purple-Silver happened for the first time in the Amulet episode, after the disqualification. Boy, that was pretty lucky, wasn't it?

And here are the temple game match ups with this pair:

Red/Green: Royal Torque
Red/Purple: Nzinga, Golden Goblet (Both Season 2 Red Jaguar runs, and both took 1.5 pendants to the temple)
Green/Purple: Applewood Amulet, Ahmed Baba, Snakeskin Boots, Henry Hudson, Metal Beard (4/5 were wins too) :o
Green/Silver: Icarus, Golden Spider Web (Both had Green going to the temple)
Purple/Silver: Freydis

I know, I keep doing this. But only for the most common match ups, so I won't do it for all of them. And 5/11 are wins too. Awesome. :mrpurple:

I gave this match up a 2. Not a good set of colors at all, though the combination did look better in lighting in the latter two seasons. What REALLY drags it down for me, is the episode selection. With the exception of Kamehameha and Golden Earring, the rest of the episodes here are absolutely terrible. I would've given this pair a 3, or maybe even a 4 if it wasn't for the episodes. Not only that, but Orange and Silver dominate waaaay too much here. There's not even a Purple Parrot episode on here! Oy, I can't wait to move on to tomorrow's color combination.

I generously gave this combo a 5 simply because I like the colors.

This is probably the worst set of colors based on episode selection. A lot of notably bad and average episodes here.

Yeah, this set of episodes is just downright putrid. Only Kamehameha and Golden Earring are good. Which coincidentally, were both Silver Snake one pendant runs. But Lost Hammer, Mt. Kilimanjaro, and Clovis the First? No thank you.

I thought the combo that Golden Cricket Cage used was bad, but this one was awful!   I mean just look at those colors. They all look ugly together. It looks like Valentines and Halloween colors mixed together. Also, that episode selection is awful. Lost Hammer, Grandy Nanny, Zenobia, and Snow Cone are episodes I never want to watch again. And too much freaking Silver Snakes and Orange Iguanas. The only redeeming points is Kamehameha and Henry Morgan. The rest just blow. I am going to give it a 2, but I am so close to giving it a 1.

Pay attention TRJ. It's Golden Earring, NOT Sir Edmund Hilary. And I said it TWICE too. ;)

I gave this match up a 7. I thought the colors looked really nice together, though Orange kind of ruins it. And the episode selection isn't too bad either. Besides Cracked Crown, none is these episodes are bad by any means. It's interesting how Green always advanced from this, and three of their temple appearances were all from Season 3. Hell two episodes are even on the same day too. Too bad this combination was so rare, because I would've loved to see it appear more often. I liked these colors together, though I would've ranked it higher if it wasn't for Orange ruining it a bit.

I gave this combo a 6. I like how rare the combination was, and the colors were pretty good too. It was pretty much the middle section o the teams Kirk introduced. :P I am not a fan of the episode selection though. Aside from Belle Boyd, the other episodes were so boring and forgettable. And I hate the stupid Cracked Crown. Also, I am surprised how rare this combo was in the first place. After Cracked Crown, the combination was not used again until almost the end of Season 3. And when it was used, it was used 3/5 times in a 5 episodes arc. Not to mention, Belle Boyd and Sojourner Truth were from the same day. It would've been nice to see this combo used for sure. ;)

Yeah, I was going to say that too, about the rarity of the pair. I'm actually surprised this combination was so rare. You never would've guessed it by just looking at the set of colors. You'd think it would've occurred at least 8 times on the show. But yeah, this color combination should've been used more often. It's actually one of my favorite match ups ever, but others were better. ;)

You're right, looking at this set you would definitely expect to see it more often. I wonder why that is.

Of course to only be seen four times out of 120 episodes is a remarkably low ratio.

Same with the combination used for Polynesian Girl and Sir Gawain's episodes. They were only used four times too. ;)

I think the Blue/Orange temple games only being used 4 times is even more amazing. :P

That is truly remarkable. Out of all the sets of teams that combo could have came from and it only happened four times?! Wow!!

Do we have a master list of how frequently teams faced off with one another?

What I think is a little shocking about the totals:
Purple appeared in the temple games more than the rest of the teams in season 2. <3
Orange won 6 out of 9 season 1 temple game appearances.
Blue won 5 out of 7 season 3 temple game appearances.
Even though Green managed 15 victories in the season 3 temple games, they still appeared in the season 3 temple games 9 more times.
Orange went to the temple games so little amount of times and managed to go to the temple the most.

If any combinations are found to be incorrect, feel free to say so.

We do actually, in another topic. But, you're gonna have to wait until we reach the temple games portion of this thread. ;)

And TRJ, didn't you say you were looking forward to the other rare match up that Sir Gawain and Priceless Portrait had? ;)

Why is Lost Hammer listed twice on that list though? Is that a mistake?
Because the Green Monkeys got disqualified at John Henry's moat, and the Purple Parrots took their place. Same with Amulet. Blue got disqualified, and Silver replaced them. Is that reason enough for you? ;)

Yeah, exactly. Look at it this way:

Lost Hammer:
No Green DQ: Red-Green-Orange-Silver
Green DQ: Red-Orange-Purple-Silver

Amulet:
No Blue DQ: Red-Blue-Green-Purple (That Purple still advanced from) :mrpurple:
Blue DQ: Red-Green-Purple-Silver (First time the latter pair occurred, since this never happened in Season 1)

Come to think of it, Blue-Green-Orange-Purple and Blue-Orange-Purple-Silver (the two rarest pairs) also never happened in Season 1. Boy, Season 1 lacked A LOT of variety when it came to both Steps AND temple game pairs.

Yeah, that's why there were stars put next to both their names. When I got to all the respective pairs to feature both Lost Hammer and Amulet, I only put their names down for the combinations we actually DID see. Otherwise, I'd just erase the name and not include it. Fortunately, these were rare occurrences and didn't happen often. ;)

I gave this match up a 6. It was an alright set of colors, but it looked a little bland. The episode selection was equally as bland as well. Besides Galileo, Mush Put Hat, and Missing Eye, the rest of the episodes were just plain average. This was one of the "meh" combinations to me. I do like how 3/4 of the Blue/Orange temple game match ups came from this pair as well. Interesting coincidence there. ;)

The only 2 runs where a triple capture occured in the Torch Room Space happened with this combo. I gave it a 6 for its unique qualities.

I gave this combo an 8. I don't know why, but this combo looks very nice. I usually hate the color Orange and Silver, but they look nice with Blue and Orange for some reason. Especially Blue and Orange. It was pretty unfortunate the Green Monkeys didn't make it to the temple with this combo, but they made it was almost every other combo of theirs, so no real loss. ;) Episodes like Missing Eye, Mush Pot Hat, and especially Galileo were good. The other episodes were pretty boring, but nothing glaring bad. And 3/4 of the uber rare Orange-Blue was used with this combo. I like this combo a lot for all the quirky little trivia, so I am giving it a good score. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Blue-Green-Orange-Silver
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on June 02, 2014, 11:52:21 PM
Yeah, I was surprised the Green Monkeys didn't have a temple appearance here. They did make it to the temple games three times, which isn't too bad. With how dominant the Green Monkeys were in Season 3, this match up only happened once this season, in Mummified Hand. ;) But, we did get Galileo out of this pair, so it does somewhat make up for things. :mrsilver:

I went with a 7 for the abundance of Blue vs Orange, the visually pleasing color palette, and a reasonable selection of episodes. Not the greatest, but no Cricket Cages.

And here's all the temple game pairs that happened with this combination:

Blue/Green: Mummified Hand
Blue/Orange: Magellan, Harriet Tubman, Efoua (2/3 being Orange Iguana temple runs)
Blue/Silver: Missing Eye
Green/Orange: Mush Pot Hat
Green/Silver: Galileo :mrsilver:
Orange/Silver: Gordian Knot

So there's some more interesting trivia for you there.

The Leopard-Skin Cloak of Annie Oakley
The Lost Lion Tail of Little John

I gave this match up a 9. This was my second favorite combination after Red-Blue-Green-Purple. The colors looked beautiful together, like most Blue, Green, and Purple match ups do. I would've given this combination a perfect 10 if it wasn't for the episode selection. The only episodes I like from that pair are Trojan Horseshoe, Dr. Livingstone, and Leopard Skin Cloak. The rest are average to bad. Though it did have an even distribution of which teams made it to the temple, where none of the four teams overly dominated. So that makes up for it. Otherwise, these colors looked really nice together and I wish it was used just a little bit more. ;)

I gave this one a 6. The colors do look nice except for the Silver Snakes. Only because their shirts were too bright. The episode selection is up in the air for me. I love Annie Oakley and Trojan Horseshoe, but the other episodes were average or bad. Episodes like Lost Lion Tail, Silk Sash, and Nathan Hale sucked. Like the Paintbrush said, I like the even episode distribution and everyone got an equal chance in the temple. And this combo appeared A LOT in Season 2. Yet, it only appeared once in Season 1 and 3.

Plus, Dr. Livingstone used to be paired up with Trojan Horseshoe during the pre production order Nick Gas days. Both having opposite teams advancing from the steps too. Blue/Purple in Dr. Livingstone, and Green/Silver in Trojan Horseshoe. Another interesting coincidence there. ;)

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Blue-Orange-Purple-Silver

I gave this match up an 8. I thought the colors looked very nice together, even though Silver kind of ruins it. And besides Enormous Feather, the episode selection was excellent. :mrorange: :mrsilver: It's funny how this combination literally did not happen until the last day of Season 2. And it happened TWICE on that day too, and then again in Sir Gawain. Too bad this was a very rare match up, I would've loved to see it happen more often. I would've rated it higher if it wasn't for Orange dominating a little too much. Plus, just like Red-Blue-Orange-Silver, Blue also did not advance from this pair either. On the flip side, Purple ALWAYS advanced from this, even though they didn't have a temple appearance. So it sort of makes up for it a little. :mrpurple: But I love how the colors look together, and I like the episode selection. So it ranks high for me. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Blue-Orange-Purple-Silver

I like this combo a lot. The colors actually look pretty neat with this combo, and the I enjoy how rare it was. On one hand, a Purple Parrot fan would probably not like this combination because they went to the temple games and lost in each of these episodes. Especially when 3/4 of them were to the Orange Iguanas. On the other hand though, this combo featured 3 great episodes! I like how it took the last day of Season 2 for this combo to even appear. And two of them came on the same day! (Nostradamus and Polynesian Girl). Overall, I like the rareness of the combination, the episode selection, and the coloring of it. I will give it a 9. :mrorange:  :mrsilver:

And here are some interesting stats too:
- 2/4 of those episodes were failed escapes, while the other two episodes were wins
- 2/4 of those episodes were tiebreakers
- 2/4 of those episodes had bottom floor artifacts, while the other two were top floor artifacts
- 3/4 of those episodes were 1.5 pendant temple runs
- 3/4 were Orange/Purple episodes

Interesting how such a rare combination can have such interesting coincidences.

Here are some more:

- 3/4 of those episodes were taped last on their production day. (Nostradamus shared the same day as Polynesian Girl)
- 3/4 of the temple male runners had a name begin with J (Jason, Jahmel, and Jim)
- The frontrunners in the two wins were female, and the frontrunners in the two failed escapes were male players.
- Both Enormous Feather and Nostradamus/Priceless Portrait were part of a production day where the artifacts were all grabbed,

I gave this match up a 6. I wasn't a huge fan of how the colors looked, but it looked alright. I didn't care about the episode selection here either. Besides Discarded Seal and Golden Pepperoni, the rest of the episodes were just average. I did like the even distribution of all the teams, where each team got a temple appearance at least once. So no team in particular dominated too much. Other than that, this combination is middle of the pack for me. It wasn't bad or anything, but there were worse pairs out there than this one. And Discarded Seal saves it somewhat too. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Green-Orange-Purple-Silver

This combo seems too bland to me. It probably has something to do with the colors. It looks like Halloween and Christmas colors mixed together. Episode selection wise, it is pretty average. I really don't hate any of these episodes. And I love Discarded Seal, Golden Pepperoni, and Snake Bracelet. Other than that, there is not a lot to say. This comes off as a forgettable combo with nothing special. I give it a 5.

Also, I am not too crazy about Snake Bracelet's win. But I thought the whole episode was pretty good like the pretty unique temple games and hilarious legend. It has nothing on Galileo or Lawrence of Arabia.  ;)  :mrsilver:

Yeah, I liked the legend and temple games as well. But Tracy's unenthusiasm and average win kind of brings it down for me. But yeah, I definitely prefer the likes of Galileo and Lawrence of Arabia over this episode. ;)

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Steps Edition) - Green-Orange-Purple-Silver
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on June 06, 2014, 04:39:44 PM
And I know this is late, but here's all the temple game pairs that happened with Red-Blue-Green-Purple:

Red/Blue: Jean Lafitte, Stone Marker :mrred:
Red/Green: Anne Bonny
Red/Purple: Bone Necklace
Blue/Green: Ponce de Leon
Blue/Purple: Sacred Ring, Missing Portrait
Green/Purple: Lost Hornpipe, Good Luck Watch

So every possible temple game combination happened with that particular match up. Out of all the 15 Steps of Knowledge pairs on the show, there were only three match ups where every possible combination happened. Red-Blue-Green-Purple, Red-Blue-Green-Silver, and Blue-Green-Orange-Silver to be exact, are the combination to share that feat. I guess it's no surprise that didn't happen very often. Especially considering the lack of variety some temple game pairs had at times. Still an interesting tidbit though. ;)

I gave this match up a 7. I happen to like these colors together, they looked really pretty and blended well together. I'm not too crazy about the episode selection though. Red Sash and Buddha are the only episodes that I really like from this pair. The rest are just plain average. The only truly bad episode from this list is Jean Lafitte, so it's not like this combination is littered with bad episodes. Oh yeah, and we got Stone Marker on this list too. :mrred: Also, this temple game pair lacked consistency. It occurred A LOT in Season 1, but very rarely in the latter two seasons. But I did like how equally represented both teams were. They each had 4/8 temple appearances, so it wasn't a complete shut out like certain other combinations were. All in all, the nice looking colors and equal distribution between the two teams solidifies my rating of the pair. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Blue

Ahh, good old red vs blue - THE primary Nickelodeon match up. Double Dare and Finders Keepers utilized this color matchup, Guts and Make The Grade used these colors plus purple and green respectively, and of course Legends featured it whenever these teams made it to the Temple Games. My point; it's familiar, it's common, and it works. The colors are dominant primary colors and they look good together. The episode selection is frightfully average. But nothing terrible so that's good. I was between a 6 and a 7 but I went high and gave it a 7. The fact that this duo went to a 4-4 all time draw just adds to the coolness.

I like how Red and Blue look together. It looks very cool, like fire and ice or something elemental like that. While it did appear a lot on the show, it wasn't over the top like certain combinations where it sticks out like a sore thumb. And I like how the teams were evenly matched with this combination. The episode selection was pretty much a bunch of average and forgettable episodes, with a couple of good ones jam packed. I love Red Sash though and Buddha is pretty good too. The rest are forgettable but not bad (except for Jean Lafitte). I wasn't a fan of how often it was used in Season 1, but t was like non-existent after that season so it evens out. It was cool combo and I liked it, so I gave it an 8.  :mrred:  :mrblue:

Yeah, Red vs. Blue was used a whopping 5 times in Season 1, but then it only happened three times in Seasons 2 and 3. I also agree that these set of colors was elemental. It's not one of my favorite pairs, but it's still a good combination. ;) But you should be happy to know Stone Marker had that match up too. Since I know you and your love for Stone Markers. :mrred:

I gave this match up a 7. I didn't really like how these colors looked together. Too dark and mushy looking to me. Though Red and Green are Christmas colors, so the colors don't look entirely too bad. ;) If there's one thing positive to say about this pair, it has an excellent selection of episodes! Lawrence of Arabia, Apanuugpak, Roland, Royal Torque, etc. are amongst some of the best episodes ever on the show. :mrred:  The only bad episodes on this list are Hannibal and Anne Bonny, and even that isn't too distracting. The distribution of the episodes are sort of equal, I kind of wish Green would've had just one more temple appearance from this match up. Despite the colors looking less than stellar together, the excellent episode selection helps boost my rating of this pair. ;)

I loved the Red-Green combination. This combination always reminded me of Christmas colors even though the color Green was kind of dark. An the episode selection was amazing too. Lawrence of Arabia, Roland, Apanuugpak, Queen Boadicea, and Battle Flag were all strong episodes.   :mrred: This combination was used a lot, but it was fairly distributed between Season 1 and Season 3. And the temple teams in each of those seasons went almost equal amount of times. There was a couple of bad episodes there too like Silver Saddle Horn and Anne Bonny. Overall though, the great episode selection and the good color combination makes this one of my favorite combos. I will give it an 9.  :mrred:

I gave this match up a 7. The colors looked alright together. They weren't the prettiest, but I did like how "firey" the colors looked. The episode selection is VERY hit or miss. The episodes are either really really good, or really really bad. Episodes like Blue Pearl, Atocha, Napoleon, and Catherine the Great are amongst the good episodes. :mrred: :mrorange: Unfortunately, we have downright putrid episodes like Silver Cannonball and Bifocal Monocle that really drag it down. The distribution of the episodes is pretty equal. While Orange dominates just a tad, both teams get an equal representation at the temple. This pair seemed to happen a lot in Season 2, and not so much in the other two seasons. I would've ranked this pair a little lower, but the near solid episode selection helps boost my score up. ;)

I am not a fan of this color combination at all. I don't know, the colors Red-Orange just look so ugly together. And the episode choices were two extremes for me. I love Lucky Medallion, Two-Cornered Hat, Catherine the Great, and Dragon Lady. On the other hand, I can't stand Charles Lindbergh, Grandy Nanny, and Pytheas. And f***k Bifocal Monocle, I wish that episode burns in hell. -_- If it wasn't for the great episode selections, this might be one of my most hated combos on the show. Not a fan of this at all. I am going to it an average 5.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Orange

The only thing that boosted it up for me was the episode selection. I don't like the colors either, but the episodes were the only thing that saved it for me. I might actually lower my vote to a 6, which was what I was actually gonna give it.

And I hate to say this, but the next two combinations are even WORSE than this one. I guess not every combination can look nice. I don't know. =/

Red-Purple doesn't look too bad for me. However, the episode selection was pretty lousy though. The only episode I like is Blackfeet Chief, which is coincidentally the only time the Purple Parrots beat the Red Jaguars.

Red-Silver is definitely ugly though. And let's not get started about some of the episodes from that combo.

I really liked Blue though with most of the combos.  :mrblue:

I personally hate Red/Purple. Those colors look so pukey to me, but you're right about Blackfeet Chief being the only good episode from that pair. I think someone else said those colors look like berries. And that's pretty accurate too.

Red/Silver is even worse. Though like Red/Orange, the episode selection there is really hit or miss.

I can't wait to get to the Blue match ups. Blue looks great with most of the other combos, like you said. :mrblue:

Up next is Red vs. Purple. :mrred: :mrpurple:

 :jaguars2: vs. :parrots2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 6 episodes)
Elizabeth the I's Golden Ship (Red wins)
The Golden Cup of Belshazzar (Red wins)
The Crown of Queen Nzinga (Red wins)
The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun (Red wins)
The Smashed Printing Plate of Frederick Douglas (Red wins)
The Bone Necklace of the Blackfeet Chief (Purple wins)
Score: 5-1 Red

My vote and reasoning will come in the next post. ;)

I gave this combination a 2. I personally hate these colors together. They look extremely ugly and way too mediciny. And the episode selection is just terrible. The only episode I like from this match up is Bone Necklace, which coincidentally is the only time Purple beat Red. The rest are average (Belshazzar) to just plain terrible (whatever I didn't mention yet). I also dislike this match up because the distribution of episodes is so painfully uneven. There's at least 2-3 that should've been Purple Parrot runs instead. Just.... I don't want to waste time talking more about this pair. I'm glad this was one of the more rare match ups on the show.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Purple

I gave this combo a 4 purely because I like purple and red together.

The episode selection is horrible and red wins way too many times (not that the producers can help it).
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Purple
Post by: The Red Jaguars on June 09, 2014, 11:52:33 PM
I am not a fan of this combination, for the same reasons as the Paintbrush. The Purple and Red don't even mix well. Mostly because the Purple was too dark, so it didn't really work well with Red. And the episode selection is seriously lacking. Blackfeet Chief is the only episode I like from this list. The other episodes (minus Golden Cup) were so boring and mediocre. Printing Plate and Queen Nzinga are pure crap. I gave this combo a 3 overall because it had too many problems.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Orange

And for the record, here's how I'd change the combination:

 :jaguars2: vs. :parrots2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 6 episodes)
Elizabeth the I's Golden Ship (Red wins)
The Golden Cup of Belshazzar (Red wins)
The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun (Red wins)
The Crown of Queen Nzinga (Purple wins)
The Smashed Printing Plate of Frederick Douglas (Purple wins)
The Bone Necklace of the Blackfeet Chief (Purple wins)
Score: 3-3 Tie!

Had those respective Purple teams made it to the temple instead, then it would be MUCH more even. Thoughts?
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Purple
Post by: The Red Jaguars on June 09, 2014, 11:59:25 PM
No doubt that Queen Nzinga and Smashed Printing Plate would feature better outcomes if the Parrots went to the temple. In Nzinga, the temple guard capture shoul've been easily avoided. This would've been an easy win had the team found the half-pendant (same one Kerry and Claude found). And while the Printing Plate team made it far, they really should've reached the artifact since the layout was almost identical to Queen Boadicea. The Purple Parrots in that episode probably would've even reached the Plate.

And I would totally turn Golden Ship to a Purple Parrot episode. Gabby and Joe were way too slow of a team, and finishing with 1:30 on the clock while entering four rooms is not impressive. Imagine if a team like Robbie and Tina or Damian and Jennifer got this layout? It would've been a 2:00+ triple capture. It is hard to sympathize with these two when they move so slow.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Purple
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on June 10, 2014, 12:01:00 AM
I really don't understand why Golden Ship should be included. Would you really want to see another team actually lose with 2+ minutes on the clock? Unless of course that Purple Parrot team won 2 pendants. I don't know, I don't think Purple would've done a better job there. =/
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Purple
Post by: The Red Jaguars on June 10, 2014, 12:06:16 AM
The temple guard layout was crap for sure. In Gabby and Joe's defense, they went through four rooms and the half-pendant was no where in sight. And its not like they knew the direct path entrance room would have a guard since they were very early in Season 1. However, Joe's temple strategy was too obvious. I don't think any team would've avoided triple capture in that run unless they started in the Gargoyle Room.

I gave this match up a 3. Why must all these Red combinations suck so badly? The colors looked extremely dull together, and the episode selection was, like Red vs. Orange, way too hit or miss. The episodes were either really good (Secret Map, Sultan Saladin, Kamehameha), or really bad (Alhambra, Blackbeard, Snow Cone), etc. Seriously, some of the WORST episodes possible are from this pair. I not only dislike this pair for that reason. The episode distribution was extremely lop sided, and Silver dominated way too much. Though with the episodes where Red DID beat Silver, I suppose that isn't exactly a bad thing. Furthermore, this combination had no consistency whatsoever. It was WAY overused in Season 1, not used at all in Season 2, and used only a little bit in Season 3. Needless to say, I can't wait to move on to tomorrow's match up.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Silver

I gave this combo a 3. If it wasn't for the great episode selection, then it would get a 1. The episodes here are like polar opposites. Kamehameha, Sir Edmund Hillary, Sultan Saladin, Bandit Queen, and Davy Crockett are all great episodes. On the other hand, I hate Blackbeard, Alhambra, and Snow Cone. -_- I felt that this combo was used too much too, even though it never happened in Season 2. Especially in Season 1 and early Season 3. I mean it appeared 3 times on one day in Season 1 (S1L3). And I hate the colors to this too. If there weren't so many episodes I love on here, then this combo would get a 1 easily.

The Collar Of Davy Crockett (Silver wins)
The Secret Map Of The Bandit Queen (Silver wins)
The War Fan Of The 47 Ronin (Silver wins)
Score: 8-1 Silver

Now THAT is what I called lopsided. But on the other hand, I wouldn't have been mad at a "9-0 Silver.... ouch" result either. I mean, let's get real here. But, that's just me. Thoughts?

As a Red Jaguars fan, I wouldn't oppose a 9-0 result at all. All of the Silver Snake runs (minus Snow Cone) totally deserved to go the temple. And their runs were enjoyable and great. Alhambra and Blackbeard on the other hand were disasters. I mean Steve and Lisa had no business in the temple in the first place.

I wouldn't have a problem with 9-0 Silver Snakes except that would mean Heather and Casey still would go to the temple. And judging from RJF's and my rankings for them, the Red Jaguars would be better off in the temple.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Red vs. Silver

Yeah, Red totally should've gone to the temple in Snow Cone. Just like Silver should've gone to the temple in both Alhambra and Blackbeard. And I would be all for a 9-0 shut out, no matter how one sided the results would've looked. I mean Orange vs. Purple got an 8-0 shut out, so why not for here? I could edit the post and make it literally all Silver. But when that "Red" odd man out is Snow Cone, I think I'll pass.

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Blue vs. Green
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on June 11, 2014, 11:34:26 PM
I gave this match up an 8. These colors looked very pretty together, very earthy and colorful. The episode selection was alright. My favorite episodes from this pair are Electrified Key, Belle Boyd, and Sforza. The only truly bad episode on this list is Cosa Rara, the rest of the episodes are average for the most part. Also, the episode distribution was very equal. As much as this combination was used, both teams got an equal shot at going to the temple. That's very impressive for such a common combination. This match up didn't occur much in Season 1, in only two episodes. Both having Green beating Blue. But it occurred a lot in the latter two seasons, happening four times in Seasons 2 and 3 each, which makes up for it. So the beautiful colors, equal representation of both teams, and decent episode selection solidify my vote. ;) This combination is a VAST improvement than most of the Red combinations by a long shot.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Blue vs. Green
Post by: The Red Jaguars on June 11, 2014, 11:36:08 PM
I gave this pairing a 6. This is the only pairing where I don't like Blue mixed with another color. It is mostly because sometimes the Blue and Green shirts look a like. The episode selection is not bad like the last pairing, but it is also not very appealing either. I like episodes like Electrified Key, Lost Lariat, Belle Boyd, and especially Jeweled Scabbard. I am not a fan of Cosa Rara or Silk Sash though. I do like how this pair was almost evenly distributed through each season. And how both Green and Blue had tied results. If it had more memorable and better episodes, and if the colors didn't look so dang on similar, then I would've rated it higher. It was a good pairing, but nothing special.

I would've thought this match up would've gotten praised more than any of the Red ones. I always liked all the Blue/Green/Purple variations, whether they were from the Steps or temple games. If Blue/Green doesn't so anything, you're definitely not gonna like tomorrow's match up. An match up you forget even exists because it's both so rare, and has a terrible selection of episodes.

I met in the middle and gave this combo a 7. I LOVE the colors themselves together. The episode selection doesn't blow me away, but they do look great. There are a few good ones in there though, and it's cool that the teams went 5-5 against each other.

Yeah, the 5-5 evenly matched teams is what helps boost my score of this pair. And I really like the colors together. It's just the episode selection could've been better. Most of it is just average episodes. And even that isn't too distracting.

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Blue vs. Orange
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on June 12, 2014, 11:33:54 PM
I gave this match up a 7. I know that's too high, but I really liked the colors together. They blended off so nicely together, and it looked MUCH nicer than some of the more common combinations on the show. The episode selection however, is less than stellar. The only episode I can even come close to liking on this list is *gasp* the Paintbrush episode. And even that episode is lacking a bit. But I guess with such a rare combination, you can't expect much. The distribution of the teams is borderline one sided. Blue managed to beat Orange only once, in Magellan. The rest of it was all orange. Furthermore, this was one of the few combinations that never occurred in Season 3. Which is a shame, as I really liked these colors. Too bad this combination was so rare and didn't happen often. Had it not been for the colorfulness this pair had, I definitely would've given it a much lower score. Oh well, I still like this match up, even if it was by far the least common to be featured on the show. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Blue vs. Orange

I gave this duo a 6.

The rarity factor helps, and the fact that these complimentary colors look awesome together. But the episode selection really drags it down for me. If just one of these episodes was top 10 worthy, it would significantly boost the score for me.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Blue vs. Orange
Post by: The Red Jaguars on June 13, 2014, 01:28:21 AM
I really like this pairing for a couple of reasons. First off, I love the colors Blue and Orange mixed together. In fact, I have to say that this is my favorite pairing of teams on the show! The Blue and Orange blend together perfectly, especially since both of their colors are light. In addition, the fact that this pairing was so rare makes it very likable. Unfortunately, we got some bland episodes with this pairing. Although I do sort of like Leonardo Da Vinci. The rest of the episodes though are pretty bad. I would've definitely loved to see this pairing used more often. Despite being rare, at least Blue managed to beat Orange at least once. Purple never got to do that with double the chances of Blue. Overall, this is a really sexy pairing and the rareness makes it very likable.  The episode selection does drag it down though. I will give it an 8.  :mrblue:  :mrorange:

But yeah, the rareness is what makes it so unique. I gave this match up a 9. I don't know if I'm alone on this, but this is my personal favorite temple game combination on the show. :mrblue: :mrpurple: These colors looked beautiful together, and bonus points for Lucky Pillow being one of those episodes to feature this pair! :mrblue: While we're on the subject of episode selections, it was an alright set of episodes. Atahualpa, King Tut, Lucky Pillow, and Annie Oakley are amongst the best episodes from this list. The only real bad episode is Lucky Pig, and the rest of the episodes I didn't mention were average for the most part. But even then, that's not too distracting. The distribution of the teams could've been better. I would've loved to see Purple make it to the temple at least one more episode. *coughLuckyPigcough* But both teams did get a shot at the temple, so it's not like the combination was entirely too one sided. Overall, this is my favorite temple game pair. I would've given it a perfect 10, but the average episode selection and almost one sided representation dragged it down for me a little bit. ;)

I gave this pairing a 9! This was both a very memorable and beautiful combination. I love the colors used for this combination because they fit perfectly. The light color blue balances out the dark colored purple. Also, the episode selection is amazing. Golden Jaguar, Annie Oakley, Cobra Staff, and Annie Taylor were great episodes. Dr. Livingstone and Sultan Suleiman to an extent are not too far behind. The only bad episode is Amelia Earhart for me. This was also a great combination for the Purple Parrots too. Plus, it features my top 2 favorite teams also.  :mrblue:  :mrpurple: The only reason I didn't give it a 10 was because I would've liked to see it a little bit more used in Season 3 and some of the temple games were too one-sided. I mean we have 3 temple game sweeps on this list. Still a memorable and awesome matchup.  :mrpurple:  :mrblue:

I gave this duo a 9. I wanted to give it a 10, but just couldn't totally commit.

First off, this combo gave us Annie Taylor. Nuff said.

Secondly, this color combination is beautiful. I love blue and purple together.

Thirdly, pretty good episode selection. One legendary episode, a few good ones, a few average ones and one not so great episode.

I love this combo, can't ever get enough of it. Blue won more but that's okay, most of those blue teams deserved it.

And here's my version on how I would've wanted this pair to go:

 :barracudas2: vs. :parrots2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 8 episodes)
The Golden Jaguar of Atahualpa (Blue wins)
The Lucky Pillow of Annie Taylor (Blue wins)
The Diary of Dr. Livingstone (Blue wins)
The Missing Portrait of Hans Holbein (Blue wins)
The Lucky Pig of Amelia Earhart (Purple wins)
King Tut's Cobra Staff (Purple wins)
The Sacred Ring of Sultan Suleiman (Purple wins)
The Leopard Skin Cloak of Annie Oakley (Purple wins)
Score: 4-4 Tie!

I think you guys can spot the difference here. While it's not a HUGE change, (not as big as Red/Silver or Red/Purple), it would've made this pair completely even. Other than Lucky Pig, the rest of the teams totally deserved their temple appearances. And I also agree that this pair should've been used more often, especially in Season 3. This is not only my favorite pair because of how nice these colors look, but these are my Top 2 favorite teams here as well. These colors really do fit perfectly. :mrblue: :mrpurple:

Up next is Blue vs. Silver. :mrblue: :mrsilver:

 :barracudas2: vs. :snakes2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 7 episodes)
John Sutter and the Map to the Lost Gold Mine (Blue wins)
The Moccasins of Geronimo (Blue wins)
The Stone Head of the Evil King (Blue wins)
The Mysterious Manuscript of Mary Shelly (Blue wins)
Henry VIII's Great Seal (Silver wins)
The Codebook of Mata Hari (Silver wins)
The Missing Eye of David (Silver wins)
Score: 4-3 Blue

My vote and reasoning will come in the next post. ;)

I gave this match up a 6. I really wanted to rate this higher, as I do like the colors together. I liked them better in the latter two seasons than I did in Season 1. Must be the lighting. However, the lackluster episode selection really drags it down for me. John Sutter, Henry VIII, and Missing Eye are by far the best episodes to feature this combination. The rest are average to bad. The distribution of the episodes was almost even. Blue dominated more, but Silver did get a fair chance, so it's not too bad. And just like Red vs. Blue, this combination occurred quite a bit in Season 1, twice in Season 2, and only once in Season 3. So this pair occurred less and less as the show wore on. So it lacked consistency. The colors look sort of nice together, but the less than stellar episode selection drags it down for me. Oh well, better than the next few combinations coming up.

I gave this pairing a 7. Like most of the Blue pairings, Blue and Silver look really good together. Mostly because of how well the colors contrast each other. I always felt that this pair was pretty rare too. I mean 7 times is a pretty small number compared to the other pairings. So that makes this combo a little more interesting at least. And I love some of the episodes like Map to the Lost Gold Mine, Great Seal, and Missing Eye. :mrsilver:  :mrblue: The other episodes were pretty boring, but nothing really distasteful.

You forgot to mention Geronimo as one of the "best episodes" too. And come to think of it, so did I. :o

But yeah, I was gonna give this pair a 7. Because the colors really do look nice together. I might actually go back and change it later. And this pair was somewhat rare, and I kind of wish it occurred more often, especially in Season 3. But, with John Sutter as one of the episodes, I'll take what I can get. ;)

I LOVE blue and silver together. In general. It has that retro futurist feel to it, like how EPCOT Center's Future World used to feel. It's a great combination purely color-wise.

I wanted to go higher than a 7, but in giving blue vs purple a 9, comparatively I couldn't justify it. We have a lot of combinations remaining with some great episodes, and this episode selection doesn't scream "legendary". There are definitely some good ones, just not enough to put it over the top. If this combo had produced a Lucky Pillow or Chandragupta type episode, I probably would have given it at least an 8 if not something higher.

Yeah, I was gonna say that too. This combination had such a futuristic look to it. It looked really neat to say the least. And yeah, some of the match ups coming up don't look the best, but do feature some legendary episodes. I'm not really looking forward to tomorrow's pair, but the one coming up the day after is pretty neat. ;)

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Green vs. Orange
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on June 15, 2014, 11:48:16 PM
I gave this match up a 5. I really didn't like how these colors looked together. The darker green and brighter orange just doesn't go good together. And this pair is really disappointing because for SUCH a common combination, and two of the most power house teams to boot, I expected much more from this pair. With that said, the episode selection is very unimpressive. The only episode I like at all is Discarded Seal. The rest are average to bad. That's not good when I can only pinpoint ONE episode out of a whooping 9 that I can even come close to liking. If it means anything, both teams got an equal chance at the temple. Orange dominated a little more, but Green did get some temple runs in there too. This match up also lacked consistency when it came to frequency of how often it was used. It was only used once in Season 1, three times in Season 2, (all coincidentally from the same day), but way overused in Season 3. The only positive thing I can say about this combination was the somewhat equal distribution of both teams. Otherwise, the pair was really disappointing and uninspiring. Give me tomorrow's pair please.

I gave this pairing a 4. Whenever I just look at these two colors, I fall asleep. I definitely don't like the pairing of these two colors either. It is liking mixing Halloween and Christmas together. Also, the episode selection is a drag too. Even though this was used a lot, the only episodes I like are Johnny Appleseed and Ivan the Terrible. And I hate Cracked Crown. >_< And this combo was used too much in Season 3 it felt like too. Overall, this was a boring combo with a mediocre episode selection and an eye sore of colors.

These are the classic Nick colors, and for that I love this duo.

The episode selection is kind of dull, so that dragged it way down for me.

The Snakeskin Boots of Billy the Kid (Purple wins)

I had to give this duo a 9.

The colors look great together.

Applewood Amulet, Lost Hornpipe, Billy The Kid, yeah, this combo has episodes!

There are no real duds here either. I would have maybe given it a 10 if I hadn't set a personal precedent and given blue vs purple a 9 as well.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Green vs. Purple

I gave this match up an 8. This is my second favorite pair behind Blue vs. Purple. I don't know if I'm alone on this, but I happen to love these colors together. They go together really nicely, even if Purple is significantly more darker than Green is. And the episode selection, for the most part, is great. Applewood Amulet, Golden Pepperoni, Billy the Kid, Pirate Captain, and Metal Beard are some of the best episodes ever. :mrpurple: The only real bad episode on this list, is Xerxes. Which totally should've had Purple Parrots going to the temple there. This combination was a tad overused though, especially in Season 3. Whereas it was the only combination to not happen in Season 1, and it only happened four times in Season 2. So like most match ups, it lacked consistency. The distribution of episodes was almost equal. Just wish Purple would've had one more temple appearance, (again, with Xerxes). But both teams got an equal shot, so I can't complain too much. The great episodes and nice colors is what helps boost my score of this combination. I'm glad it was used a lot. :mrpurple:

I gave this pairing a 8 also. This combination was filled with many great episodes that featured some of the best on the show. Episodes like Pirate Captain, Applewood Amulet, Empress Eugenie,  Metal Beard, Trojan Horseshoe, Golden Pepperoni, and Billy the Kid were all great episode. Not to mention, 5 wins came from this combination too! I am not exactly crazy about the two colors being together though. Marble Armrest is the only episode I hate. Only because the Green and Purple shirts were too dark. And it felt like it was used way too much in Season 3 also. But I guess that evens out because it was never even used in Season 1. ;) This was a great combination overall and definitely a highlight for the Purple Parrots. ;)  :mrpurple:

I can't believe I forgot to mention Good Luck Watch too. :o That was another good episode too. ;) And this combination is definitely lucky to have 5 wins come from it. That's amazing!

Oh yeah, and here's how I'd change this combination:

:monkeys2: vs. :parrots2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 10 episodes)
The Applewood Amulet of Emiliano Zapata (Green wins)
The Very Tall Turban of Ahmed Baba (Green wins)
The Good Luck Watch of Empress Eugenie (Green wins)
The Lost Hornpipe of the Pirate Captain (Green wins)
The Lost Taj Mahal Turban of Aurangzeb (Green wins)
The Marble Armrest of Xerxes (Purple wins)
The Snakeskin Boots of Billy the Kid (Purple wins)
The Golden Pepperoni of Catherine de' Medici (Purple wins)
The Metal Beard of the Egyptian Queen (Purple wins)
The Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson (Purple wins)
Score: 5-5 Tie!

Another tie, and I think we all know which episode should've had Purple win instead. This pair was overused in Season 3, probably to make up for its lack of Season 1 appearances. Agree about the colors too, but can't complain about the episode selection. ;)

I really don't understand that logic at all. Neither team was gonna win, and the Purple Parrots there were completely unimpressive in the temple games. Dean and Chrystine did just fine. They deserved their temple appearance. =/

This is probably as good as these combinations are gonna get. Quite frankly, I'm not looking forward to ANY of the next match ups. Unless you like Green vs. Silver, which was A. another common pair and B. featured some great episodes too. I don't know, are there any combination that you're looking forward to, like.... at all? Because I can't think of even one.

That's not the point. I'm just saying that some of these teams did NOT deserve to go to the temple. Teams like Alhambra, Blackbeard, Xerxes, Cricket Cage, all should've had different teams advancing instead. All I'm doing is looking at how these pairs/numbers would've turned out if those opposite teams won instead. I don't know, I was just doing this for fun. I never said the producers were in charge of rigging things. And I was gonna do the exact same thing for Orange vs. Purple and Purple vs. Silver. Green/Silver: The most overused combination ever? At least it has a lot of great episodes associated with it though.
Orange/Purple: The team the Purple Parrots never beat. I see this finishing with a low score.
Orange/Silver: A pretty uncommon combination. Not sure what others think of it.
Purple/Silver: Another interesting one that was not used much. We have some great episodes like Priceless Portrait and Milk Bucket. But then we have Lost Lion Tail and Golden Cricket Cage. The only time the Purple Parrots don't have a losing streak against a meta.

No no I just meant the part about "making up" for past seasons. Because that makes it sound like somebody could somehow control the outcome of the game or something.

I totally agree about certain teams not deserving to make it to the temple. I think you named the ones that immediately come to mind.

And I appreciate the way you present the changes you would make to the results if you were able to. It's really interesting to think about how different things could have gone.

Right, and it's luck of the draw at the end of the day. Same does for the Steps pairs. But Green/Purple not happening in Season 1, and then being overused by Season 3 would be fitting since it was otherwise a rare match up. It's like, Orange lost at the moat 9 our of the 11 Purple Parrot temple episodes, yet Purple never beat Orange at all. It's like karma for the Orange Iguanas in that sense.

Either way, anything else anyone would like to add for Green vs. Purple? ;)

I gave this match up a 6. I thought these colors looked incredibly bland together, and if I were to choose a "sleeper/snoozefest" pair, it would be this one. If it's any consolation, the episode selection was great. Galileo, Enormous Iron Nose Ring, Chandragupta, Benzibab, etc. were some of the best episodes to come from this pair. There are a few clunkers though, Secret Battle Plan and Golden Spider Web to name a few. I would've liked this pair A LOT more if it weren't so overused and worn out in Season 3. I mean, I know this is just luck of the draw, and what team advances first, but I got really tired of seeing this pair in every. other. episode. of Season 3. Yet it was rarely used at all in the former two seasons. So this pair also lacks consistency. The episode distribution is just about equal. Green dominates a little more, but Silver still gets a fair shot too. That's more than I can say for the next pair coming up. All in all, this combination is only good for its episode selection, but not for it's utterly boring colors.

I was gonna give this duo a 7 but I convinced myself to go with an 8.

I love Chandragupta, it's my second favorite episode. Iron Nose Ring and Galileo are fantastic episodes as well. And Broken Trident is memorable.

The colors aren't the greatest together but also aren't horrible. I felt generous so I ranked it a little high. If I could have done a 7.5 I would have.

I always felt like this combination was used too many times on the show, but 11 is still pretty low. I don't really have a problem with the colors, but they feel boring to me at the same time. The episode choices though are top notch - Galileo, Nose Ring, Trojan Horseshoe, Chandragupta, and Benzibab were all great episodes. Of course, some sucky episodes like Nathan Hale and Robert the Bruce are mixed in too. This combination was used way too much in Season 3 though. 7 times? No surprise though considering the Green Monkeys made it to the temple games in like every other episode in that season. :P Overall, I give this paring a 7. A good pairing for sure, but not my most favorite thanks to how common it was and how boring the colors look.

Also, look how many episodes where the artifact was grabbed?
- Nose Ring
- Galileo
- Icarus
- Poseidon
- Chandragupta
- Benzibab
- Trojan Horseshoe

Of course, we know that Icarus and Poseidon should've been wins. And this is the only combo I believe to have a win in every season. ;)

Let's see here:

Season 1 wins: Galileo, Trojan Horseshoe (The ONLY two Green/Silver episodes that season, which is impressive)
Season 2 wins: Enormous Iron Nose Ring
Season 3 wins: Benzibab, Chandragupta

Of course we do have those sucky episodes like Dried Apple Half, Golden Spider Web, Secret Battle Plan, etc. But look at all the great episodes to come with it. And bonus points for Galileo and Chandragupta being amongst those episodes. :mrsilver:

Up next is Orange vs. Purple. :mrorange: :mrpurple:

 :iguanas2: vs. :parrots2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 8 episodes)
The Golden Chains of Zenobia (Orange wins)
The Silver Horseshoe of Butch Cassidy (Orange wins)
The Bonnet of Dolly Madison (Orange wins)
The Levitating Dog Leash of Nostradamus (Orange wins)
The Enormous Feather of the Me Linh (Orange wins)
The Lily-Crested Crown of Clovis I (Orange wins)
The Melted Head of Madame Tussaud (Orange wins)
The Much-Heralded Helmet of Sir Gawain (Orange wins)
Score: 8-0 Orange.... ouch....

My vote and reasoning will come in the next post. ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Orange vs. Purple
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on June 18, 2014, 11:33:32 PM
I gave this match up a 3. What an ugly set of colors together. It looked like Halloween on crack. The brighter Orange and darker Purple just clashed really badly together. The episode selection was less than stellar too. The only episodes I can even come close to liking are Sir Gawain, Nostradamus, and Dolley Madison. The rest are average to just plain terrible. And don't even get me started on how embarrassingly one sided the distribution of the teams (or team I should say ) are. The Purple Parrots have never defeated the Orange Iguanas in any of the 8 episodes this pair happened. Orange dominates the entire list. Which made coloring the episodes on the above list an easy job for me. And let's face it, more than half of those episodes would've been better if Purple won instead. If it weren't for some select few episodes, I would've given this match up a 1. But the ugly colors and lopsidedness this pair had was enough for me to still rank it low anyways.

Brutal.

I went with a 4 because I do like orange and purple together and there were a few good episodes. I actually really like Gawain. But that's about it.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Orange vs. Purple
Post by: The Red Jaguars on June 19, 2014, 12:37:15 PM
I gave it a 4 because of the neat color pairings and for having some really solid episodes. I actually like Orange and Purple together. They give off the Halloween vibe to me. The episode selection was pretty good too with Nostradamus, Sir Gawain, and Dolley Madison. So why did I give this a low score? Because the Purple Parrots literally didn't go to the temple once with this pairing. That is pretty sad, especially considering this pairing was quite common. Even Blue went to the temple at least once in the rare Blue-Orange pairing. I definitely would've taken the Purple Parrots over Lily-Crested Crown and Zenobia. They had really bad luck with this pairing. Three tiebreaker losses, three temple wins, two failed escapes, and two temple game sweeps occurred with this pairing.

Here's how I'd change the combination:

 :iguanas2: vs. :parrots2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 8 episodes)
The Golden Chains of Zenobia (Orange wins)
The Bonnet of Dolly Madison (Orange wins)
The Levitating Dog Leash of Nostradamus (Orange wins)
The Melted Head of Madame Tussaud (Orange wins)
The Much-Heralded Helmet of Sir Gawain (Orange wins)
The Silver Horseshoe of Butch Cassidy (Purple wins)
The Enormous Feather of the Me Linh (Purple wins)
The Lily-Crested Crown of Clovis I (Purple wins)
Score: 5-3 Orange

Still a one sided pair, but at least Purple gets a chance here. But Zenobia over Butch Cassidy and Enormous Feather? The uncoordinated Purple Parrots who couldn't even score once in their third temple game? No thank you. O_O

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Orange vs. Purple
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on June 19, 2014, 06:38:35 PM
Score fixed. And it's funny, the temple game score in the third game in Zenobia was very fittingly 8-0. And sure enough, 8-0 was the score for this combination. I guess choking in that last game was a bad omen for the Purple Parrots. Must've been foreshadowing the Purple Parrots never defeating the Orange Iguanas. Or you can just call it a coincidence, or whatever.

Alexander and the Gordian Knot (Orange wins)
The Golden Stallion of Ali Baba (Orange wins)
The Useless Map of the Chibcha Chieftain (Orange wins)
John Henry's Lost Hammer (Silver wins)
The Snake Bracelet of Cleopatra (Silver wins)
The Golden Earring of Henry Morgan (Silver wins)
Score: 4-3 Orange

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Orange vs. Silver

I gave this match up a 2. This is my all time least favorite combination on the entire show. The colors looked extremely ugly together, very pukey looking as the Orange hideously clashed with the bright white Silver colors. The episode selection is terrible too. The only episode on that list that I can even come close to liking is Henry Morgan. The rest of the episodes are either just plain average, or just plain terrible. If it means that much, the episode distribution was almost equal. Orange (once again) dominated a little more, but Silver managed to squeak by with a few temple runs. All in all, this to me is hands down the worst combination on the entire show, and I'm glad this was one of the more rare match ups.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Orange vs. Silver
Post by: AimYourBrent on June 20, 2014, 12:26:13 AM
I gave orange vs silver a 3, and that is purely because I enjoy the colors together. They sort of remind me of Halloween. That episode selection is so mediocre. Based just on that, I would give it a 1 or maybe 2 because of the near even distribution of wins. Overalls probably the worst duo on the show, purely due to poor episode selection.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Orange vs. Silver
Post by: The Red Jaguars on June 20, 2014, 12:47:24 AM
I gave this pairing a 3 also. To me, this is the most forgettable pairing on the whole show. It hardly ever occurred and most of the episodes that used this was forgettable. And I don't even like the colors together either. Probably because they are my two least favorite teams. As I mentioned earlier, the episode selection is on the forgettable side. I do like Snake Bracelet and love Henry Morgan though. The rest are episodes I don't bother to go back and watch. Overall, it was a boring pairing that hardly ever occurred and the colors featured my two least favorite teams. Definitely one of my least favorite pairings also.

I want to do a "Rate the Temple Game" poll sometime down the road where we rate each type of temple game (like the game itself, not the temple games for every episode). I will wait on that though once we get more activity. The Rate the Artifact poll will hold me over for a long time. ;)

I wonder if this forum has a feature where you can feature the poll on the front page and people can vote without going to the thread? A couple of forums I went to used that feature before. But yeah, we have created a lot of polls though and all of them have been creative and fun.  :mrred:

I'm not sure if this forum has that feature. I've never actually seen it before. Maybe we could ask TSM if that is possible? ;) But yeah, most of these polls have been. Robin Hood and Marian's Ladder (Silver wins)

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Purple vs. Silver
Post by: Purple Parrots Fan on June 20, 2014, 11:43:45 PM
I gave this match up a 6. I happen to really like these colors together. The Purple looked really pretty with the really white Silver, despite the Silver Snakes having such a boring team color, being mere white and all. I did however, like this set of colors better in Season 2 than I did in Season 1. Must have something to do with the darker lighting that Season 2 had. I really want to rank this higher, I really do. I do want to rank this a 7, maybe even an 8. But what really drags it down? The episode selection. While it does have some amazing gems (Freydis, Priceless Portrait), it comes with some downright atrocious episodes (Cricket Cage, Lost Lion Tail). If it's another positive thing I can say about this pair though, the episode distribution was completely equal. Both teams got an equal representation, and neither team got shut out or over dominated. And that is REALLY rare for a Purple Parrot match up, where almost all the other combinations with Purple in it are nearly to completely one sided. Furthermore, this is the only time the Purple Parrots don't have a crushing defeat against a team. Too bad this was one of the more rare combinations. Especially since this (like Blue vs. Orange), was never used in Season 3. I would've liked to see this pair occur more often, as long as the episodes were halfway decent. Overall, I really liked these colors, but the episode selection drags it waaaaaay down for me. I mean, Cricket Cage, enough said.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Purple vs. Silver

I gave Purple-Silver a 7. I like the colors associated with this pairing also. It reminds me of desert like cake and ice cream for some reason. :P The episode selection is up in the air. I love Polynesian Girl and Freydis, but then it has a couple of atrocious episodes like Golden Cricket Cage and Lost Lion Tail. And both these episodes are considered the worst representations for their respective teams.  I really like the distribution of these episodes though. It was a rare combination, and it had both teams beating each other same amount of times. This is the only time the Purple Parrots do not have a losing record against a team too. Overall, the cool colors, a couple of good episodes, and the decent distribution makes this pairing pretty likable. If it wasn't for Golden Cricket Cage, then I might rank it higher.
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Orange vs. Silver

Here's how I'd change the combination:

:parrots2: vs. :snakes2:

Episodes it was featured in: (Used in 6 episodes)
The Oracle Bowl of Delphi (Purple wins)
The Golden Cricket Cage of Khan (Purple wins)
Robin Hood and Marian's Ladder (Purple wins)
The Milk Bucket of Freydis (Purple wins)
The Lost Lion Tail of Little John (Silver wins)
The Priceless Portrait of the Polynesian Girl (Silver wins)
Score: 4-2 Purple

Okay, so it's not equal anymore. But at least Purple would get a shot at winning in Cricket Cage and Silk Ladder. And likewise with the Silver Snakes winning in Lost Lion Tail. Thoughts? ;)
Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Purple vs. Silver
Post by: The Red Jaguars on June 21, 2014, 01:06:39 AM
The Golden Cricket Cage one is a no-brainer. I mean there is no way that a team could do worse than John and Tia.

Lost Lion Tail is another obvious one. That is how it should've been in the first place.

I don't know about Silk Ladder though. I know Jeremy and Elise won with a piss easy layout, but they were also very strong before the temple run. Just like Shane and Jackie in Oracle Bowl. Although the Purple Parrots would've done much better than the Silver Snakes in the temple run in Silk Ladder.

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Purple vs. Silver

Title: Re: Rate the Color Combinations (Temple Games Edition) - Purple vs. Silver

I think everyone would make fun of Silk Ladder no matter what team went to the temple. I mean the team only had to enter 5 easy rooms to reach the artifact. Even if a team beat Shaka Zulu's time, it would still get crapped on like the other fast and easy wins like Roland, Butch Cassidy, Geronimo, and Shaka Zulu. So it isn't such a bad thing that the Purple Parrots didn't win in Silk Ladder. ;) And it makes Billy the Kid extra special too.  :mrpurple:

Yeah, I agree that Billy the Kid was a much better first Purple Parrot win. Especially since it was SO close to the end of Season 2 by the time that episode happened. :o Silk Ladder was gonna be a win no matter who went to the temple. But then again, the Purple Parrots in Silk Ladder probably would've been faster and more competent than Jeremy and Erika. ;)

The highest rated Steps of Knowledge pair was Red-Blue-Green-Purple, with a whopping 8.90 average. And it's BY FAR the highest rated combination, period. And it just happens to be my favorite steps combination, so I couldn't be any happier. :mrred: :mrblue:  :mrpurple: The lowest rated Steps of Knowledge pair was Red-Orange-Purple-Silver, with only a mere 2.57 average. And it is by far the lowest rated combination in the entire thread. My personal least favorite steps combination is Red-Blue-Orange-Silver, which was ranked the second lowest. Very fitting too, since I wasn't the only one that hated that pair. The highest rated temple games pair was Blue vs. Purple, with a whopping 8.40 average. The lowest rated temple game pair was Orange vs. Silver, with only a mere 3.25 average. I find it both awesome and coincidental that my favorite AND least favorite temple games pair were both the highest and lowest rated respectively. Good to know everyone else's sentiments echoed mine. :mrblue: :mrpurple:

For me, my Top/Bottom Three steps and temple game combinations would go like this:

Best:
Red-Blue-Green-Purple
Blue-Green-Purple-Silver
Red-Blue-Orange-Purple
----
Blue vs. Purple
Green vs. Purple
Blue vs. Green

Worst:
Red-Blue-Orange-Silver
Red-Orange-Purple-Silver
Red-Green-Orange-Purple
----
Orange vs. Silver
Red vs. Purple
Red vs. Silver

Based on the above charts, 2/3 favorite steps pairs ranked high, and all three of my least favorite pairs ranked low. For the temple games combinations, 2/3 of my favorite pairs ranked high, and all three of my least favorite pairs ranked low. So my thoughts and overall averages almost match. And my favorite steps and temple game pairs both ranked the highest! And my least favorite temple game pair ranked the worst too.

And, that's it. Any final thoughts and special thanks you would like to give me are welcome. ;)

I think the results are pretty typical for the most part. The #1 pair for the SoK is not surprising at all. I mean a pair with Atocha, Catherine the Great, and Annie Taylor will get a love of love. Also, episodes like Atahualpa and Belshazzar are not bad at all.

I am kind of surprise that Blue-Purple got the highest ranking. I thought that would go with Red-Green or Green-Silver. But that is not a bad thing, because it was both a great pairing and had some great episodes too.

These are my top 3 favorite pairings:

 :jaguars2:  :monkeys2:
 :barracudas2:  :parrots2:
 :monkeys2:  :snakes2:

And no surprise at the bottom either. I hate  :jaguars2:  :snakes2: because of how many crappy episodes it has. That is also the ugliest pairing on the show.

And thanks for creating this topic. It was both fun and an original idea. And a lot of people voted in it too, so it was a nice change of pace.

You do realize the pair for Red-Blue-Green-Purple got the most votes, right? I think you need to go back and look at the chart. And I personally hated both Red/Green and Green/Silver. Very ugly and boring colors together. I honestly think Red/Green is overrated AND got ranked too high. And Blue/Purple getting a high ranking was not surprising at all. Those colors looked beautiful together and there's a reason it's my favorite pair ever.

And I'm glad this poll is over. I was gonna start a "Rate the temple layout" poll (like, rate the S1L1, S1L2 temple), but now I don't know. I don't think anyone would like it, and this place has been completely dead lately. I don't know, what do you think? =/

Well, the activity seems to come and go. It is hard to tell how many people will vote in it or not. Just a couple of weeks ago, these threads were getting many votes. I think it is a good idea, but you're right it is a little dead on this forum right now. But I do notice that certain people have always been voting in these threads as of late: Me, you, RJF, TSM, and Brent. And Viper does too, but he has not been on a few days.

It is always something you can create down the road when it picks up again. Believe me, it will happen again. ;) But I like the idea and I am sure the votes will show how much the temple has changed between the first three seasons. ;)

Yeah, this thread (and even more so my rooms thread) got A LOT of activity at the beginning. But now the activity has been really dwindling down lately, and it gets a little boring seeing just a mere 4 votes in every poll. Either way, I'll definitely start the topic somewhere down the road. Just like you were gonna start a "Rate the Temple Games" thread once the activity picks up again. But I'm gonna hold off on starting it for now. And I'll wait until we get more voters, and focus more on my rooms thread in the meantime. ;)

EDIT: And I deleted the poll too. Since there's really no point in keeping it up now that we've covered everything. I did the very same thing in the moat topic, so I figured it would be appropriate. ;)

I definitely enjoyed this topic. It was something different. Wouldn't mind revisiting it one day to see if anything changes. Thanks for creating it, PPF

I would love to revisit this topic one day. To see if anything changes. Just like we're doing with the rooms topic right now. I mean, I know this was just a mere poll, and not a tourney, but hey, polls can be just as interesting and fun, right? ;)

I like the idea of revisiting certain polls again. Our opinions change overtime and it is also nice to see different people vote too. That is something you can definitely do down the road. I was thinking about doing the same thing with the "Rate the Legends Episode" thread where we rated every episode. I felt that a lot of the episodes in that thread didn't get a lot of votes (most of them only got 3 votes), so I think that is something that can revisited somewhere down the line.  ;)

And while we're on the subject of reviving old polls, I was thinking of rehashing the "Rate the wins" topic. I mean, it's been over a year since we've touched that thread, and again, it would be interesting to see how much our opinions have changed. And with only a mere 32 wins on the show, it wouldn't take long at all. Just like the rooms thread with 34 days, the wins thread would only take 32 days. Would that be an interesting thing to rehash again? I think so, since this is about wins after all. ;)

That would definitely be interesting to revisit. Especially since a lot of people are more willing to talk about and vote for the wins.

Then I'll start that poll later. And give you credit for it. Like I did with the rooms thread. I'm sure it will get a good number of votes. Since like I said, this IS about wins, and a temple run is the most vital part of the show. ;)
