I don't record, I usualy watch on YouTube, or see just the Temple Runs when I get home (because everyting else on the show was played lol)
However, for other things I record, I just pick the most expencive tape, or the one that I can buy at least.

The reason why I want to know this is because my parents say you can't tape Legends without Tebow and it seems that some of you have recorded like 80 episodes. Someone please tell me because I hardly get a chance to watch Legends.

I've got all my Legends episodes on VHS tapes. As long as you have a VCR, you can just pop a tape into it and press record. You should be perfectly fine. You don't need TiVo to record Legends, unless you want it on DVD.

Do you have cable or satellite?
I just changed the channel on my satellite device, kept my VCR on Channel 3, and hit record.
At least, that's how it works for me.
