Official "Future of Phantom's Temple" Meeting
« on: January 02, 2011, 09:04:55 PM »
Hello Phantom's Temple,

There will be a discussion about the future of the forum beginning tomorrow, January 3rd, 2011 at approximately 5:00 CST. Look for a topic in the Steps of Knowledge or the Moat around that time. Everybody is invited to participate. We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
Your Temple Guards

P.S. I will be a few hours late due to classes, so don't wait for me.

Cool. I'll just start ahead and say this before I come back:

I'm starting to feel that this forum has become a small club of about 8-9 people with barely any progress or expansion of new members. It seems like we're discussing about stuff in a circle to be honest. I mean this is the primary reason I'm hesitant to do the podcast.

I"ll try to be there everybody.

Also, if we wanted to use a chatroom for the discussion, we could always use Jon's old chatroom here! (Just use your screen name here as your user name over there)

January 3 being today huh? I'll try to be there. I may be a little late, because that's when I eat dinner. But I'll still stop by for the discussion.

Well I have an actual excuse this time.

The internet was down in my area for most of the day.

Anyway, all things aside this topic still needs to be adressed. How we go about it doesn't matter at this point, as long as we decide what it is we want to do.

For over a year now we've been discussing the concept of moving the forum. This could mean many different things.

What we need to do is identify our choices of action and move from there.

Now we have a few choices. As I see it our main choices include:

1. Complete Forum Move: This would entail closing up shop and simply moving to a new forum with a new host. A complete new start.

2. Change of Venue Move: We move away from a forum host and establish a different kind of community. A facebook group has been discussed, however I feel that that would be just a fraction of the new community we would establish. This could be anything from a chat group to a complete website depending on what direction we go in.

3. Technical Move: While I'm not very tech savy I know several of the members here are. After having the forum backed up, if there is anyway we can transfer the data to another site, that could be a possible choice. Again, I am not sure at all if this is a possibility, but I feel it does need to be mentioned.

4. No Move: We stay where we are despite the problems Forumer has given us.

Now no one of these choices is perfect. What we need to do is discuss which of these are possible and what it is we want to do.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we ARE the Legends of the Hidden Temple community. When I started this forum it was nothing more than an experiment. While this is by no means a large community by the standards of the internet, we have proven to be an established community. The fact is, while the discussion mainted here is mostly through regulars, we have become a hub for the Legends fandom.

The fact is, this is not a choice that I alone should be making, this is something we all need to decide on. I'm open to anything at all, feel free to make suggestions. My main concern is that our community continues to exist. What we've established here in the last 5 years is pretty nice, and I know that no one wants to see it die.

Thank you very much, and sorry for the late post.

I'm still for choice #3. I already have a backup of the database (albeit from a few weeks ago, so I would need to back up the database again in order to save the posts and threads made since then.) and I can set up another forum (and import the data into it) no problem.

I think #3 is the best choice, but if it somehow fails us (not blaming you specifically TSM :P), my second option would be #1.

Otherwise, I feel like Toltendo was onto something? discussion has stagnated to some extent (probably mainly because there really isn't anything fresh to discuss as the show has been "dead" for quite some time now), and I'll admit my interest has started to wane again.  But, I'd like to see this place not in some sort of danger because of corporate monkeys, and everyone we know still comfortable being together.

I realize the forum doesn't have that many core members, if you want to call them that, but I can see if shrinking if #2 is chosen and takes a certain direction (I know some members may be hesitant to give away personal information like full names and the like, so Facebook and similar sites could cost us some members).  I feel like this place needs to remain a forum of some kind, no matter how long it lasts.
If you have seen all 120 full episodes of Legends, copy and paste this into your profile for all to see.

Yeah, also gotta say #3 as well. For all the same reasons stated. Especially since TSM has most of this place backed up. It just makes the move that much easier.

#3.

I'm against #1 because we'll lose all of our discussions and fanfics that practically form the backbone of this place, #2 because I really can't imagine this community in its current thriving state, so to say, if it were not a forum, and #4 because the problems... well, "excessive" would be an understatement.

If there is a large, real-time discussion at some point, I won't be attending if it isn't on a weekend due to time differences.

I'm for choice #3 as well, partly because TSM was kind enough to start on it. #1 would be my second choice.

Choice 3 seems like the popular one. In terms of setting up another forum, what exactly did you have in mind?

I still have to do another backup and then import it, but you get the general idea.
