Rooms above the Swamp question...
« on: January 12, 2007, 10:33:42 AM »
I noticed in some Season 1 episodes, the players try to go up to the upper rooms (Treasure Room/Room of the Golden Idols) from the Swamp/Bamboo Forest/Holes of Python/Spider's Lair. My question is, did those doors open? I remember seeing two or three doors that lead up. All the season 1 episodes I watched, the doors wouldn't open when the players tried pressing them. Or was there some Season 1 episode that I missed that the upper doors open?

No, though it would've had to in Wild Bill Hickok and the Dead Man's Hand.  There's only one Season 1 episode where the player makes it from one of those rooms to the other, and that's The Moccassins of Geronimo. (Granted, that's down from the Treasure Room and you're asking about climbing up into that room area.  But no other Season 1 players have ever made it directly from one of those room areas to the other.)

And it should be mentioned that, out of all the doors in the temple, the corner doors connecting the Treacherous  Swamp space to the room above were the only ones never used in the temple. (Although, for the large majority of the layouts, they were simply unusable.)

I'm wondering why you call it the Treacherous Swamp.  Olmec only calls it that in the rundowns for Layouts X through XII.  Never in Layouts I, IV and V and never when he gives the artifact location.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec. So where is the Silver Cannonball?
Olmec: The Silver Cannonball of Granny Nanny is in the Swamp.

I think Olmec just throws in "treacherous" to describe how time-consuming crossing the room might be.  Likewise he always throws it in when there's a rundown with the Holes of Python, but he didn't say "treacherous" when giving the location of the Blue Pearl.

I like the way it sounds. :)

Although I should probably change the name on my site so people don't get too confused.

Thanks everyone. :D

I find it kind of weird they didn't have it open in more episodes. Especially the Paint Brush of Leonardo Da Vinci.

It was active a lot more often in Season 2, thou.  They used the ladder between the Jester's Court and the King's Storeroom in 5 episodes:

The Broken Wing of Icarus
The Golden Goblet of Attila the Hun
The Golden Pepperoni of Catherine de' Medici
The Missing Weather Maps of Charles Lindbergh
The Silk Sash of Mulan
