About Tarrah's Leap ...
« on: May 16, 2012, 05:51:40 PM »
I think that Tarrah has been getting a bit of undeserved criticism lately about her decision to jump from the ledge in the Pit of Despair as she exited with the Milk Bucket of Freydis.

It is my opinion that she knew full well that she wouldn't make the gap if she didn't use the rope to cross. This is obvious in the way she tip-toed along the lip of the ledge right before she made the jump.

So, the question is, what was she doing by jumping like that? And I think I know what happened.

It is my opinion that she was intending to jump to the rope, grab on, then ride it the rest of the way over the gap. You can see that she did grab the rope, but slid down it because she grabbed it below one of the knots in it. Also, the unfortunate thing is that she was a real petite girl, and as such had real thin arms. I think that the combination of where she grabbed the rope and her lack of arm strength directly caused her fall, and not the fact that she was trying to jump the whole gap.

So, what does everyone here think? Is my reasoning sound, or did Tarrah actually try to jump across the entire gap?

I don't think anyone is "criticizing" Tarrah or "giving her flack" for jumping across the Pit. People were just curious what was going on inside her head when she did that. But yeah, I think she was just trying to jump for the rope, but failed to. She knew she wouldn't make that jump, and I don't think anyone complained about it either.

It's also worth noting that she wan't the first to try that. Tony in the Snakeskin Boots run was the first.

I think she tried for the rope as well. I don't think anyone could make the full jump even if they tried their hardest.

Besides, just look at my gif in my signature. She clearly tried to grab hold of the rope, but like TDE said, she just missed the knot and she was pretty small. As you can see, the gap between the two rock slabs was pretty big. I think only a fit adult could make that jump (example: Lebron James).

I have to agree with PPF about her trying for it. Given her small stature, she had no chance of reaching the rope had she really tried.

There might have been another reason, and no one quote me on this one. I was reading something about a year ago (what it was I can't remember) saying that the reason she jumpped the way she did was because a player from a different episode tried the rope or jumpped in but whatever the case was, a kid vommitted in the Pit. Tarrah must of knew about it before hand cause she looks down in the Pit and then tries it, either to just try and make it or hopefully just to miss the area the incident happened. I don't really think that happened though.

Well, people tend to think that Tarrah herself vomited in the Pit, but did so at the beginning of the run. If you watch carefully, before she enters the Laser Light Room, she presses the button, then looks away from the door. And then the very next shot is a wider shot of Tarrah finally exiting the Pit. That poor editing right there is where people are lead to believe it was Tarrah who vomited. So another member here (I believe it was TBF), guessed that Tarrah only jumped across the Pit to avoid the spot where she got sick. While the puking in the Pit was plausible, jumping to avoid the spot is just looking too much into it.

I don't see why anyone would give Tarrah a hard time for trying to jump across the Pit. I always assumed that she probably overestimated the jump, which resulted her smacking her face into the rock slab.

If anything, I have to give her credit for recovering from that fall so quick and bringing the Bucket back to the gate. She was truly a warrior after taking a nasty hit like that to the face and be able to get back up and pass the finish line. She was a strong contestant throughout the temple, and this displayed how tough she was. Which is why I hate runs like "The Broken Wing of Icarus" because Jason was very pathetic for not bringing the wing back through the gate, yet Tarrah smacks her head into the rock slab and still brings it back.
