Phony Stuff about "The Snow Cone of Mt. Kilimanjaro"
« on: November 22, 2012, 08:57:36 PM »
Let's list some stuff on why this episode was phony or stupid or weird.

1. The picture of Tofiki was the same picture as in Efoua
2. The picture in which they claim is Mt. Kilimanjaro is really Mt. Everest
3. If this was a real snow cone, it would've been citrus juice
4. The artifact itself
5. The crappy run, including the Forest-Shrine passage having the gold door open but the Shrine door not.

What else can you notice weird about this episode.

- The two loser contestants named Casey and Heather.
- The fact that the episode is about a Snow Cone. (Shows how desperate the producers were.)
- The legend is ridiculous and the worst one on the show next to "Cosa Rara".
- The fact that the Silver Snakes even made it all the way to the temple/

All "Snow Cone" jokes aside, does anyone else think that this is the worst episode on the entire show? I mean there is nothing redeeming about this episode at all. Stupid artifact, stupid legend, bad teams that scrape by each round, pitiful temple run, forgettable, and just boring from start to finish. I wonder if any other episode could beat its suckiness.

Golden Cricket Cage?

That's it, review Snow Cone next please TRJ. See how these two episodes stack up against each other.

The Keys to the Alhambra anyone? But yeah, Snow Cone was pretty bad too, for all the reasons stated above.

Although it is near and dear to my heart, I know that "Bifocal Monocle" was not a great episode and has gotten a lot of negative feedback on this site. None of the rounds were particularly spectacular, and the run didn't go well at all.

I'd call either "The Snow Cone" or "The Bifocal Monocle" the worst episode of Season 3 at least, although I'm not sure which one was truly worse.  I feel like the Temple Games in both episodes were the highlight, but they were kind of used more creatively in "The Snow Cone" IMO.  But it's really hard to say.

Stuff "The Snow Cone of Mt. Kilimanjaro" DIDN'T get wrong:
- Reverend Charles New actually existed.  Apparently, Tofiki also existed.  At first, I didn't think they were real people because most of the info I got on people having to do with Kilimanjaro concerned the first people to reach the summit, when Reverend New and his crew were only the first to discover snow on the mountain.
- In the legend, Tofiki briefly speaks in Swahili, which is geographically accurate.  The line was "What uganga is the mzungu up to now?", where "uganga" means witchcraft and "mzungu" can mean a white person (it apparently can also mean "aimless wanderer," which I guess says a lot).

Not sure what to make of those accuracies, considering all the stuff they got wrong.  Maybe they hoped the audiences wouldn't notice those creative licenses?

Given the option between "Bifocal Monocle" and "Snow Cone", I definitely have to say that "Bifocal Monocle" was the worst of the two. Both episodes had crappy rounds, but "Bifocal Monocle" might just be slightly crappier.

Both moats were pretty "meh" for season three, but I like the Snow Cone one slightly better.
Both legends were bad, but at least it seemed like Snow Cone had a slightly more believable and accurate legend.
The temple games featured in both episodes had pretty pathetic teams season three wise, but the One-Eyed Jack ones definitely had crappier players. Just watch the first temple game in that episode with the Red Jaguar boy who can't even jump through one hole. Most pathetic temple game performance on the show?
Both temple runs were sucky too, but at least the Snow Cone team didn't struggle with one objective and run back and forth between uncleared rooms. And even though Heather brought the Shrine deadend upon herself, she at least wasn't completing already completed objectives for her time in the temple.

So yeah, I have to say Bifocal Monocle is slightly worse. But really, both episodes are bad. Throughout Legends three year tenure, I have to say that Bifocal Monocle, Lost Lion Tail, Alhambra, and Golden Cricket Cage is worse than Snow Cone. But they all are garbage.

For anyone curious about the same image from "Efoua" being used again in "Snow Cone" as mention in GM1's post, I took the picture and put them side to side.

The image on the left is from The Shriveled Hand of Efoua and the image on the right is from The Snow Cone of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

As you can tell, they used the exact same person for both legends. In the "Efoua" picture, the figure is holding a dismembered leg and you can see a lot of detail in the background. For the "Snow Cone" picture, it is the exact same thing except that the image is more zoomed in on the figure. The background for the "Snow Cone" picture is exactly the same as the background for the "Efoua" picture. It makes me wonder if the producers truly pulled the Snow Cone legend out of their asses.

And I wonder if any other legends did this?

If they did reuse any photos, it would have been between Seasons 2 and 3, since Season 1 had still shots of people dressed as the legends' name sakes. So if there were any repeats, it would be more limited.

Topic bumped due to this episode being reviewed.

Anyone notice the artifact itself looked like a rock the shape of a snow cone... in a miniature bucket

I always thought the Room of the Ancient Warrior handles WERE part of the artifact. Like it was some sort of weird headdress with spilled snowcone juice.

It does sort of look like a weird headdress if you look at it.

It looks like melted urine in a pot.

Really though, I'd go as far as calling this the worst episode ever after watching it not too long ago. Horrible episode overall.

The Snow Cone is the lamest artifact on the show. Okay, the Lost Lariat and Paintbrush is pretty lame too. But the Snow Cone doesn't even look like one. It looks like a cup of overflowing beer. The producers were really scraping at the bottom of the barrel for this episode.

And I agree with PP319, this is probably the worst episode ever on the show. At least Bifocal Monocle sort of has an excuse for sucking due to being the first S3 episode. This one has nothing good about it. The legend is so inaccurate and lame that it must've been threw together at the last second. At least Golden Cricket Cage is memorable for the really bad temple run, Snow Cone is both boring and forgettable.
