Pendant of Life/Temple Guard Question
« on: September 27, 2006, 02:26:47 PM »
Was there always a path the contestants could take to avoid the third guard? It would be pretty unfair if a temple run was predetermined from the beginning. Also was the extra half pendant of life present in every single 1.5 pendant run? Where was the third guard in the Sfortza episode? And finally, why is it that the only full episode I haven't seen is Gallileo's Cannonball! Sorry to barrage y'all with all these questions!

first question yes and no the only episode i can think of where the third guard is unavoidable is the mussleshell and even then i think that if amanda had just busted through the wall then the guard would not have caught her.

2nd question there should have been

3rd question good question

4th question just bad luck i quess

no one has ever theorized this before but how do we know that the production staff doesn't come up with a layout just before the temple run starts instead of when they are writing the episode like everyone thinks?

1. No, not always. There's plenty of episodes in which it was absolutely impossible to pass the third temple gaurd. I think they probably changed some of the layout according to how many pendants were won by the teams. They have to open certain doors and make it possible for the teams to win.

2. No, I don't think so. There's certain runs where I think it depended a lot on which entrance they decided to take.

3. No idea.... i really don't think there was one.

4. I dunno? Watching at the wrong time?

In regard to your first question: There are many (or at least several) episodes that I can think of where there was really only one path you could take. Of course, a number of them occur when the team has 2 pendants, but there is at least one where the team has 1.5 that I can recall: The Lost Taj Mahal Turban of Aurangzeb.

#2: This is a question I've been asking myself since (and especially about) the early episodes of the first season. Sure, in a number of episodes, the teams could have made it by entering through a different room or taking a different path. But if they say the other half is hidden in the temple, don't you think they should, I don't know, hide it like they said? If I was a contestant and they told me they hadn't hidden the half pendant, I'd be pretty miffed. Anybody else have thoughts on this?

The world may never know the answers to questions 3 and 4.

I just read the interview of the Sfortza with Asher and it said a woman showed the contestants a "recommended" path through the temple and the location of the the extra half pendant. That is extremely weird since there probably wasn't even a third guard (or was he in the ledges?) and if every contestant was told where the extra half pendant was I'm pretty sure more teams would find it. The layout was too easy also. It almost seems the producers wanted a guaranteed win for this episode. (And I'm sure they wanted a guaranteed loss for the Apple episode)

I'm pretty sure they didn't come up with layout right before the run because they would have given Brett and Screamin' Lauren a much easier layout! I think they use whatever layout the producers came up with for that certain episode regardless of age, ability etc...

okay everyone always says that in the taj mahal turban there was no way to avoid all three temple guards but there was one way to avoid the shrine guard. after compleating the chamber of the sacred markers objective. the player could have gone down into the tomb of the headless kings. nothing suggests that the door wasn't open.

You know what? You're right. I'm going to rewatch that run later tonight and check it out, but from what I recall, it's very possible that the door opened going down. For some strange reason, I honestly have never thought of that possibility.

Assuming the Chamber/Tomb door was locked, there was no way to avoid the Shrine temple guard.

I have an opinion on this matter, and it is, I think that they have the layout setup, but depending on how many pendants the team has, it depends on which doors open in the temple.  If they have one pendant, it usually depends on if they get through the first room or not.  It seems to me, that most runs with one pendant, if they choose the correct first room (Ledges, The Crypt, etc.) they will not get caught by all three.

Also, I think they open more doors if the team has one pendant.

I always seem to find there are less opened doors when the team has two pendants, or a pendant & a half.

What I need to find out, are the stats for each run, pand what amount of pendants finished with the most wins.

Also, I think "hiding" the pendant, was too tough for teams, because you only get three minutes, and actually hiding the extra half pendant would spend WAY too much time looking for it, so I think they moved it to more obvious spots, and it was up to the players to grab it.  Most episodes I've seen, they usually don't even grab it. (That's just dumb)

True...I like it when one teammate points out the location but sometimes the other person STILL doesn't get it. Wierd.

I did like in one of yesterday's eps when one team member threw the pendant to their partner after he dropped it..I don't remember the legend but it was a one pendant game.

Hey PurpleParrotFan, it was the Lucky Medallion of Atocha where the second player tossed the pendant back to the first player. I've always called this incedent the "Pendant of Life Play" (as opposed to Statue of Liberty)

I feel very, very, very,   very, very, very bad for you.  Galileo's Cannonball is a great episode, and I wouldn't want anyone to miss it (I''s my second favorite episode)

Alright, I FINALLY found a run where the layout prevented players from avoiding all three temple guards with 1 1/2 pendants. It's the Golden Spider Web of Robert the Bruce. (You can see it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBJ_u1tjflQ courtesy of RenegadePancake.)
