The Heart Room / Re: Legends is coming back!
« on: October 16, 2021, 06:51:09 PM »
Yeah, I have some thoughts as well:

Here are some pros and cons, as I see them, from each aspect of the show:

MOAT:

Obviously this was a more fitting version of the moat, and I like the multi-step element of it. The cut-ins to the player interviews is very annoying, especially since most of it is just corny-jokes / fake drama real housewives-style. One real issue I have with the show is that it isn't "in real time" like the original was. You really felt like they were running right from the Moat to the Steps in the original version. Here... anything but.

The props are a bit cheap.... plastic smoothie style cups for the poison? Really? Also, the moat music is just plain bland, and not catchy at all. One thing I do like is including the legend into the moat, that's smart.

STEPS:

Probably the most faithful aspect of the show, despite only having three chimes. Again, why can't we have the original music, or some spruced up version of it??? We have the original chime, etc. The Guatemala question was actually interesting, and the Legend has some factual basis.

GAMES:

I quite liked the games themselves. Like the moat, they were far more dimensional, but lacked the "real time" excitement that the original brought. There was a ton of editing in the first game to make it look like that Red Jaguars were closer to finishing their Ice Bath pyramid than they actually were... That never happened in the original. The tiebreak format is absurd... whoever decided that death by guard was a bad idea, should really re-evaluate that decision.

TEMPLE:

Calling it the "Temple Run" really annoyed me. No one ever referred to it as that in the original. Another example of not using an iconic track. As I mentioned previously, there's absolutely no tension with the third guard. I can just see no solo runs in this game, given the forced route. That being said, there's some fun in this layout, with some good rooms. I had absolutely no idea which way they player should turn or what route they should take, probably because I'm so used to the old layout.  That's probably what those confused contestants were feeling in the original! That being said, I prefer a more horizontal temple, versus this condensed & stacked one.

OTHER THOUGHTS

Hosting was fine.

Set was pretty good.

Ultimately though, unlike seeing a young child chop her feet over her partner retrieving a Scabbard, and sending them to some cheesy destination that means the world to them (and ultimately, winning a game), I'm watching adults compete for $25K. Not nearly as fun.

I don't really favor "Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge" because I'm afraid it might be a copycat of Legends.

Why is that something to be afraid of? If it’s not, and it’s not your taste, then oh well, you tried watching it. And if it is reminiscent of another show you like, then that’s another show you can watch! (Assuming you have Disney+, of course)

It’s not like the legacy or rapport that the show has built will disappear because of it.

https://www.flixist.com/star-wars-themed-kids-game-show-jedi-temple-challenge-coming-to-disney--225630.phtml

A kids game show called Jedi Temple Challenge is in the works for fall 2020. The Hollywood Reporter suggests it could be similar to Nickelodeon's Legends of the Hidden Temple, a 1990s basic cable game show fondly remembered by nerdy old people.

The Star Wars game show will test contestants' connection to the Force in three different settings: a forest planet, on a starship, and in a Jedi Temple. There is no word on the nature of these challenges and tests as of now, but it’ll probably involve finding stuff in cluttered rooms in order to move on to the next cluttered room.

Now, I’m not a Star Wars fan, but this seems like a pretty cool idea.

If you are a die-hard Legends of the Hidden Temple that doesn’t want to see it ruined, don’t worry the name won’t be tarnished; but if you want something new to watch that is LOTHT-esc, this is for you!

Plus, I’m sure there are a few LOTHT & SW fans that love the idea of a crossover. Should be interesting to watch.

Pretty cool.

Originally, I was thinking that I was against a revival, since I want the integrity of the 90’s show to persist, but you might be changing my mind!

Bad news: my top 5 chokes video was taken down because Viacom's a terrible company. They're the ones who claimed the video and took it down. I could file a dispute, but I'd rather not go through that process. It would be too much of a headache.

I’m probably the only one, but I like when Viacom takes these things down, just not for the reason you think.

If you remember, almost all Temple Runs were available on YouTube in Early 2016, then, most of them were taken down. Silently, I thought this must have meant that Viacom still sees LOTHT as a valuable asset, and one week later the movie was announced.

I’m not saying Season 4 is getting announced next week, I doubt that’ll ever happen, but it’s good to see that Viacom still cashes in and sets out for anything that hurts LOTHT’s bottom line. Money turn heads.

Shows like the Loud House having a special LOTHT episode, with LOTHT Music in the episode is another example of Viacom making money off a show that’s a quarter century old.

The Heart Room / Re: The "Legends Cheaters" Debate thread

I agree with GM1 about Bobby from Shaka Zulu probably forcing the doors open with his hands. If you watch the run, you can hear a thud noise and the door doesn't open naturally. It wouldn't be unusual for him to get it open since the doors have been opened in the past, both by contestants and by themselves. The same thing happened to Billy in Lost Hammer where he tried to force the golden doors open with his bare hands. Whether Bobby cheated or not though, I think we can all agree that this was not the intended path to the artifact.

Personally, I blame the producers for this.

The passageways from the swamp area never had any physical doors (like the Pit,Ledges, Shrine and virtually every other room).

So, the intentions were that if a contestant were to go through the doors they would be stopped by the second set of doors leading into the next room. The bottom room of the center shaft, had that big golden door that would be locked unless the task unlocked it.

The golden doors room, however, at least in early  Season 1, could be opened and closed manually, this was fixed in S2 as Shane from the Turban episode clearly doesn’t press an actuator from the swamp, but has to go back to press it.

Additionally, the golden doors rooms were often left ajar, so my guess is he tried to press the actuator, went through and manually pushed the door open, which again, in Season 1, was often required. How many times did a contestant have to “slide open the door” from the Pit to the Observatory, or open up the door from the Throne Room to the Swamp? In later seasons when doors opened they usually had more force in them so a contestant could clearly see that it’s opened.
