Royal Torque of Queen Boadicea
« on: May 20, 2014, 12:03:07 AM »
Could this had been a victory if Nate hadn't chosen to climb into the Chamber instead of exiting immediately into the pit? He had 15 seconds left at the time he grabbed the artifact and wasted 6 of them entering the Chamber. Thoughts?

I don't think that Nate would've pulled it off even if he stayed low. The bottom of the Pit of the Pendulum was filled with all that foamy stuff, so it would've ate up some time trying to enter the Ledges. Kristen from Polynesian Girl also had the same amount of time too and she was just entering the Ledges as time was up. Granted, Nate was faster than Kristen. But I just don't see him pulling it off.

Yeah, a win probably wouldn't have been pulled off. It probably would've been an "Icarus" type ending if Nate did choose to stay low.

Nate's choices were to climb the ladder and hope to have enough time to sprint across the top, or to get bogged down in the foam blocks in the Pit and then have to navigate the Ledges, which were just as time consuming. It was probably in his best interest to climb up into the Chamber, but time just wasn't on his side.

And I'd like to point out that even though I said "time wasn't on his side," I do not mean that Lissy wasted the time. She completed her third room objective with 1:55 on the clock, which meant she kept an average pace throughout her stay in the temple (as compared to other Season 3 frontrunners). What I am saying is that Nate and Lissy had one of the longest paths to the Tomb of the Headless Kings, since they were the only team to be forced to complete both the Chamber and King's Storeroom en route. Unfortunately, being forced to complete both of those rooms used up time that could have been used to escape the temple.

I thought it was smart for Nate to stay high and so did Kirk also. Unfortunately, he did not have enough time to capitalize on this clever move. It would've helped if Lissy moved faster. Also, Nate had some back luck in certain rooms where it was the third of everything that it took to complete certain objectives. Like he found the key in the third King's Storeroom pot and it was the third pedestal that opened the door.

If he had the Empress Eugenie or Printing Plate layout, they probably would've won.

Yeah, their long path really played a part on why they came up short. But for some reason, 1:55 seems a little too low for the Season 3 temple. If Lissy stalled less in the Crypt and Pit, then she would've saved some time. And if Nate tried the middle painting first like he originally wanted, then he would've grabbed the Torque with more time. ;)

Although I think Red Sash's layout was a little harder than Queen Boadicea's. Mostly because of how confusing the Shrine was in Brandy and Quentin's run.

I also thought it was garbage that the door from the Crypt to the Pit didn't open. That detour into the Ledges ate up precious seconds.

I thought the Crypt door did open up to the Pit in Queen Boadicea? That happened in the Henry Hudson and Dried Apple Half runs though. ;)

I made up a detailed list of third-room completion times for Season 3 contestants in the Analysis and Comparisons of Temple Run Contestants thread. Only including runs in which the frontrunner only entered one entrance room and completed their third room's objective, most contestants finished their third room with about 2:00 on the clock. So at 1:55, Lissy was just about on track with the average Season 3 contestant.

Both Brandy & Quentin and Nate & Lissy entered the temple via the Crypt and went directly into the Pit from there. There wasn't a detour into the Ledges in either run.

No you're right. My memory failed me on that one. For some reason I thought that also happened in this episode. MY mistake.
