Delain - "Silhouette of a Dancer"

Funny that I've come to appreciate George Oosthoek as a vocalist through his guest appearances, not his main band.  I haven't really sat down to listen through Orphanage's discography yet, hahah...
It's funny how I brought Delain to this forum and made two people become much bigger fans of the band than myself.

Actually, I blame a webcomic artist from deviantART for really getting me to like Lucidity.  I haven't listened to the newer albums yet, but it was her sharing the song "A Day for Ghosts" that got me hooked. :D

Epica - "Fools of Damnation (The Embrace that Smothers - Part IX)"

Just ordered a VIP concert ticket yesterday, looking for a bus ticket that suits my class schedule now, so I've basically got an awesome birthday to look forward to! :D

Trivium - "In Waves"

Surprisingly, listening to them more than any straightforward thrash bands lately.  Including Megadeth, but I think my interest in them declined when I realized Dave's lost his mind. :C

Ne Obliviscaris - "Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise"

Picked up their debut album which I've had on my wishlist for a while today. This "extreme progressive metal" (prog metal with a ton of black and death metal vocals in addition to cleans) band from Australia is probably the best, or at least the most original in their field - they have a violinist in the band, damn it (which works surprisingly well). :P Definitely worth a listen and I think this album is the best released in this so-far disappointing year for metal releases.

After Forever - "Life's Vortex"

Understanding a bit more of the details to this album's concept now.  Invisible Circles was definitely a very risky album to create after Mark Jansen left the band and went on to form Epica, but for the most part, I was impressed.  Characterizing the figures in this kind of concept can be hard to fully accomplish, but there are at least enough hints of what motivates the characters, IMO.  But even then, the music itself is definitely the strong point and might make up for possible shortcomings in the story.

Mastodon - "The Last Baron"

Well, I got Crack The Skye a while back and I think I've soaked it in by now. I like the vocals of Troy and Brann (and Scott Kelly on the title track - honestly, if I had my way, I'd rather have him sing all the clean vocals for the band) but Brent Hinds' singing on songs such as this one kinda rubs me the wrong way.

Testament - "Last Stand For Independence"

I did a massive double take when I heard the section that begins at 1:23. What the hell kind of a riff is that? Seriously, I think that riff alone makes this entire album worth the purchase... it's THAT awesome. Whichever one of the guys in the band that came up with that deserves a medal.

Taifa - "El Color de la Libertad"

I realized that even though I get an A in Spanish, I don't listen to any Spanish-language music. Mainly because I never found anything in my taste until I came across this band via a compilation of "flamenco metal songs," no kidding. I'm a bit surprised at how good this sounds; it's a shame that I can't find a single place where I can get their full-length anywhere on the interwebs. :?

Metallica - "Fight Fire with Fire"

Dave Mustaine has lost his mind and because he writes 99% of Megadeth's material, I can't separate his views from his music anymore.  I think that's why I haven't listened to Megadeth all that much lately, but I just wish my interest in thrash as a whole didn't take a hit just because of him, so I'm trying to revive it now...

Orphaned Land - "Disciples Of The Sacred Oath II"

In my complete and blatant honesty, I think that Kobi Farhi should definitely be given the Nobel Peace Prize; he deserves it more than certain people that have already been awarded it, anyway. Of course, I know the mere fact that he is a metal musician automatically decreases his chances to zero.
