Ridiculously catchy tune (never mind the lyrics being in Hebrew ), and a brilliant band overall. TAW, you know more about them than me, so are their first two albums any good? I'm very impressed by their two more recent albums (though Mabool remains my favorite) but a significant reason for that is because of the good production and opulent folk elements which I heard are absent on both Sahara and El Norra Alila.

For any interested (i.e. just TAW as usual :P), I am currently in the process of writing an album. It's primarily metal; but of a wide range drawing influences from many different bands and some non-metal stuff as well. I intend to compile a range of songs that are borderline melodic death metal like newer Amorphis; to some old Gothic/doom type of stuff like Paradise Lost; modern Gothic metal like early Lacuna Coil; to stuff that's more like Gothic rock rather than metal. Some of the album's going to be straightforward, three-minute, single-like material; some is going to be longer, more structured, more technically challenging stuff; some will be very epic and ambitious.

Here's the intended tracklist with estimated track lengths and working titles (although I am satisfied with most of them, so they're probably final):

1. "His Final Stretch Of The Journey" - 4:48
2. "Follow The Leader" - 5:30
3. "Spa For The Suicidal" - 4:32
4. "River Of Ice" - 3:36
5. "In Thy Name" - 4:26
6. "Do Us Part" - 4:13
7. "A Chronicle Of Time (The Traps)" - 12:08
     I. "Survivor Of Time (a poem)"
II. "An Old Friend In A New Body"
III. "Breakdown" (read: NOT the shitty metalcore element that I can't stand)
     IV. "Survivor Of Time (Reprise)"
     V. "The Bad Always Ends? (a poem)"

8. "The Curse Of Life" - 6:11
9. "And No Mourning After" - 3:00

The tentative title for the album is The Trap The Light Lay. If you could see the cover art I have planned for this, you would think I'm trying to be some kind of shit-stirrer, but that's the direction I'm going in - to mislead people. Yes, I know I'm being a troll. :P But that's the kind of the fun you can have with this, so why not? It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION. The "light" and the "trap" in question are both symbolic, but of personal symbolism that no one would could possibly interpret correctly unless I explained.

Anyway, finally getting to the point of this post. Just today I completed a "demo" of the song "River Of Ice"; with the entire song electronically composed using Guitar Pro and the vocals recorded myself. Like I said, it's a demo - I don't even like the mix I've done but I couldn't find anything that I liked as a balance between the music and the vocals, and the vocals are a little soft and powerless considering that this is supposed to be the most "ZOMG br00TaLZ!!11!11" one on the album. :?

Linkage

A few notes: the guitar solo is missing, obviously. I intend to have some female choir vocals accompanying me at the very end. And the chants sound terrible because they're supposed to be group chants. But oh well. And the last note is supposed to be held much longer (which can't be done in Guitar Pro) and then crossfade into some church bells that will precede the next song, "In Thy Name."

Oh, right. I hope to have the record out by end 2013, latest. I'm getting a friend to do the lead guitars (possibly rhythm as well); I will take care of the vocals, drums, and (if I'm not useless) rhythm guitars; and as for the other instruments, guests, I suppose. I'll figure that out down the road.

Splitting the lyrics from the previous post so it doesn't get too long...

"His Final Stretch Of The Journey"
"Valo!... se sokaisee minut..."
Translation: "Light!... it blinded me..."

He opened his eyes to see the light
shining at the end of the tunnel;
The one he had been waiting for.

The nearing symbol of liberation:
Soon he’d be free from the time,
From the fights, from the pain,
From that which he had abhorred

Life had given him many lemons
to put in the basket on his back;
Without a day that passed he was sore.

But complacency won the battle,
As he made his life’s lemonade,
Not knowing that the basket
was making his spine deform.

Death can be our way of life;
It is a path we all can take;
Sometimes we yearn for light,
Yet to nevermore awake.

His daily bread was a plate of lies;
He was force-fed till the end;
He drank from the cup of false hopes.

His trying was ineffectual; in life
all his hard work left uncredited,
Unnoticed, unrecognized -
He never reaped what he’d sown.

Death can be our way of life;
It is a path we all can take;
Sometimes we yearn for light,
Yet to nevermore awake.

Sometimes we’re kept awake at night
by a storm of misguided hate.
It’s hopeless never knowing quite
our pain for us who could abate.

Vicarious life got him to nowhere,
An unending roundabout of pain.
Led back to the start, no matter which road.

He had driven without direction;
The failure of dictation had angered him
to the point that he had no desire
to know where he’d go...

Solo

And so away he drifted:
The sorrows of life faded from him;
A calming night crushed down on his soul.

It was his final stretch of the journey;
But as he came closer to the light,
It was no longer comforting, it was cold.

Death can be our way of life;
It is a path we all can take;
Sometimes we yearn for light,
Yet to nevermore awake.

Sometimes we’re kept awake at night
by a storm of misguided hate.
It’s hopeless never knowing quite
our pain for us who could abate.

When he opened his eyes the second time,
He now saw not the eternal brightness.
Like his life, the gleam had faded away,
And the sun then once again rose over him.

Perkele.

"Follow The Leader"
I take a stroll through this park
On this cold winter’s night
Dying trees in falling snow
Behind black clouds, the moon shines bright
And on a seat of frozen grass
I take a look and then I see
That in the sea of cold white light
Only my shadow’s there for me

I see the frigid cross up in the sky
A ship to happiness and its mast
The cold red carpet cuts through the heart
The candles glow, down to their last
And on a seat of hallowed pine
I take a look and then I see
In the moon creeping through the doors
Not even God is there for me

Finally, I come to your resting place
With woe I read your name
And just one though crosses my mind:
How can we meet again?
So on a seat of haunted stone
I take a look and finally see
That if our love were to exist again
Then only death is there for me

"Spa For The Suicidal"
(An ode to Singapore's Bedok Reservoir)

If you’re feeling crushing pressures
And trust me— here, you will
Come to the oasis in the east

Through the thicket lies a place, a space
Away from all the stresses that thrive
In the concrete hell beside

Enjoy a lengthy relaxation
One place that nothing will interrupt
End up on the beach of hot stones
Rest your face in the mud

Come to the spa for the suicidal
Forever rest in clear waters deep
It’s where we all want to go
The experience is heavenly

No job, no home, no cash, no future
What life is there to value?
Here you just relax and let it go

Finally you can find some peace
But don’t be stupefied by the thought
This is no escape from the law

Enjoy a lengthy relaxation
One place that nothing will interrupt
End up on the beach of hot stones
Rest your face in the mud

Come to the spa for the suicidal
Forever rest in clear waters deep
It’s where we all want to go
The experience is heavenly

Solo

Enjoy a lengthy relaxation
One place that nothing will interrupt
End up on the beach of hot stones
Rest your face in the mud

Come to the spa for the suicidal
Forever rest in clear waters deep
It’s where we all want to go
The experience is heavenly

Spa for the suicidal
Spa for the suicidal
Spa for the suicidal
The experience is heavenly

"River Of Ice"
I was born an unwanted child
I was a whale washed up on the shore
I was placed in a hand basket to Hell
Cast down the river of ice

I rest upon the frigid waters
I’m out of place, I’m stuck
I have nowhere to go
Frozen’s time in an endless winter
As I float down the river of ice

Slow is the flow of the frozen river
I’ll never make it out to sea
Yet I long to make my covenant
To the greater force, a cold black mirror

I rest upon the frigid waters
I’m out of place, I’m stuck
I have nowhere to go
Frozen’s time in an endless winter
As I float down the river of ice

Solo

I rest upon the frigid waters
I’m out of place, I’m stuck
I have nowhere to go
Frozen’s time in an endless winter
As I float down the river of ice

As… I… float…
Down the river of ice
As… I… float…
Down the river of ice
As… I… float…
Down the river of ice
As… I… float…

"In Thy Name"
You live your life in search of what is true
You never wait and see, perhaps it’ll come to you
But instead you choose to blind yourself and go
And thus never will you move on with something new

You live your life in hopes of getting higher
You follow blindly to avoid getting burned by fire
And in this fashion a misunderstanding’s built
A never-ending game of telephone, please God, cut the wire

You don’t know what’s right or wrong
And you’re not superior
You don’t know where we belong
And you’re not superior
Around the world you preach and yell:
Fulfill the will
As long as you do it in His name
You can break every rule

Solo

You don’t know what’s right or wrong
And you’re not superior
You don’t know where we belong
And you’re not superior
Around the world you preach and yell:
Fulfill the will
As long as you do it in His name
You can break every rule

You light a candle on this altar
I’ll pick it up and let it glow
You hold it high towards nothingness
And I’ll still find my way in the end

On this day, we gather to say goodbye
to a dear departed, this self-killer.
Yet, we pray in Thy name that You will
accept him into your arms; for he hath
hurt no more than a block of wood,
And never in a name such as Thine,
So in faith of all that is just...

"Do Us Part"
(This one's a little angsty even though it still has my style IMO, but I had to write it - and I wrote it for a reason.)

Seems every time you try your best
The ones that prosper are the rest
And it leaves you beaten and sore
It looks like I was no exception
Stop over-thinking and kill all affection
And so I’ll suffer all this pain no more

It’s a frozen sword into my heart
To see all the sycophants deceive you
Mistreat you, berate you, forsake you
For some reason you go back for more

I’m letting your cold wind blow
Through the open doors of my heart
May death do us part
The height of your hypocrisy
Slowly freezing over my heart
May death do us part

When I finally was ahead in the race
You burned the medal with a smile on your face
Enough to make me bleed from the core
And so I think I’ll end all life
And so I think I’ll end my strife
For I never hurt the ones that I adore

It’s a frozen sword into my heart
To see all the sycophants deceive you
Mistreat you, berate you, forsake you
For some reason all they do you ignore

I’m letting your cold wind blow
Through the open doors of my heart
May death do us part
The height of your hypocrisy
Slowly freezing over my heart
May death do us part

Solo

It’s a frozen sword into my heart
To see all the sycophants beat you
Mistreat you, berate you, forsake you
For some reason you go back for more

I’m letting your cold wind blow
Through the open doors of my heart
May death do us part
The height of your hypocrisy
Slowly freezing over my heart
May death do us part

"A Chronicle Of Time (The Traps)"[/size]
I: Survivor Of Time (a poem)
The tear that escapes my eye is warm, and deep;
It flows like a survivor of time, a fragment of
my memories that now seem so far away…

II: An Old Friend In A New Body
So many times I’ve had sand kicked in my face
So many piles of shit I’ve stepped in on my race
Against opponent ever-competent, he makes me fail
All of the people that I’ve hated – just unavoidable distractions

And now that I’ve gotten the chance to detach myself
From harsh realities clinging to my legs
They may leave a scratch or two, they burn in the sea
of my agonies – but I’m finally surfacing

O, how I forgot what happiness feels like
O, how I forgot what innocence feels like

And then I once again reopen my arms to friendship
I feel its warmth embrace me back; for I was alone
For all those days that scarred, I won’t pick at them
For I know the bad will never cease to bleed out of me,
If I did.

O, how I forgot what happiness feels like
O, how I forgot what innocence feels like
My old friends have taken on new bodies
And I have finally come home.

I can’t believe I spent those days wallowing
in my misery, squeezing what I’ve been given:
The drink was acid-sour, it melted my throat;
The stench had burned my eyes

But now I’ve poured it down the drain –
The fruits of my labors are useless
I’m setting all of my sorrows free –
Fly south, and never back.

III: Breakdown
Funeral… the symbol
The one I reminisce upon
Time… the killer
My memories stay clear
Tears… the leader
Beginning of my breakdown
Fear… the weakness
Here comes another day now

IV: Survivor Of Time (Reprise)
The self-killer’s gone, his gleam has died
The happy memories are survivors of time
They eat away, haunting the future near to him

Survivors of time – too strong for their own good
My memories good lick at me with venom
And my bad simmer within, praying for their days

V: The Bad Always Ends (a poem)
My friends, I place a question unto thee:
How do you think it feels to have truly
no recollection of what it is like to not
be unhappy?

It has eluded me, dear friends, for years, Happiness;
Eventually I fell into Melancholy’s trap.
Like quicksand, its evil embrace refuses to break;
In the end it smothers, in the midst of our panic
to escape from the pit.

Perhaps Happiness too has a trap. One of a sweet
nectar that clings to hearts and pulls us slowly back.
Perhaps of far greater than the dangers of Melancholy.

Two years of agony I endured. Two bereft
of Happiness. And no longer could I reach it –
Melancholy’s trap for me was satisfaction.
And now, my friends, I stand perched on the cliff;
One move will send me to the traps.
Both are deadly. It is the decision of which I
can see as not as bad. Because when time comes by,
The bad always ends, and everything turns to nothing.
But first, it must prolong, and tomorrow my agonies
begin once more; for the thin line between
Happiness and Melancholy is finally wearing out.

"The Curse Of Life"
If there truly exists a heaven above,
A paradoxical paradise it must be
For if it really is where I am from
Why on this damned earth am I here?

Sent to this perverse backward world
Under the reigns of crime and killing;
And life can’t possibly be a gift
For this, and for I was chosen for it

Violence, warfare – result of stupidity
Killing – the pastime of humanity
I would rather die with some dignity
Than be bound by the curse of life

And when I trace my haunted path,
Each turn had led me off the road
And to finally find my way back home
I’m compelled to drown in suffering

I wish I could commit a thousand sins
For Hell would not be worse than this
All I’ve seen and been subjected to
Has sentenced me to self-sacrifice

Violence, warfare – result of stupidity
Killing – the pastime of humanity
I would rather die with some dignity
Than be bound by the curse of life

Violence, warfare – result of stupidity
Killing – the pastime of humanity
I would rather die with some dignity
Than be bound by the curse of life… forever

Life is a curse – so many ways to break it
Come, my dear angels, take me home
Life is a curse – why should I take this?
Come now and take me home with death

I will quench my thirst with poison
And cleanse my soul with cyanide
I will feel the rope embrace my neck
And let my angry blood flow free

The curse of life – what we’re all punished with
The curse of life – the source of all suffering
The curse of life – pushing us to the finish line
The curse of life – but only when we want to live again,
We are dead.

"And No Mourning After" is an instrumental, and as the title implies, it is much less sorrowful/melancholic than the rest of the record.

Impressive so far. :o If you want, I'd really love to try my hand at backing vocals or possibly the spoken word parts, but I'm not sure I could promise the best recording quality without a new microphone at least.

You know what, you can give it a try with a little sample. I can send it to my friend and see if he can just do some basic production to make it sound better. I mean, I record with an $80 mic that you've (hopefully) just heard raw on "River Of Ice" - doesn't sound very professional at all; but it can be turned into the quality you heard on the Liquidator cover I sent you, so who knows? :P

However, places where I can confirm I'd definitely need backing vocals/spoken word are:
1. The Finnish spoken word in "His Final Stretch Of The Journey." Mic quality doesn't even matter here, because I plan to use a phone-like effect on those.
2. The "as... I... float..." chant at the end of "River Of Ice." Again, mic quality really doesn't matter here because it's supposed to be pretty atmospheric.
3. The final stanza of "In Thy Name," in spoken word
4. Once I get the vocal melodies finalized, I'd like a group chant on the "May death do us part" lines on "Do Us Part."

I still haven't figured out how I want to execute the long poem at the end of "A Chronicle Of Time" yet; mainly because that song is a monster to work with and I haven't even gotten close to composing the music for the final part, and thus don't know what kind of mood will suit it. If I can, I'd have multiple people narrating, like on Nightwish's "Song Of Myself."

Background noise needs to be pretty minimal, though. Even though I can do noise removal in Audacity myself; if there's too much background noise, the effect tends to distort the vocals themselves.

So, it's less than two weeks until I get to see Megadeth live for the first time. Here are the facts:

1. In June, the shitty organizer held a draw for early bird ticket buyers, of which I am one. 20 names from the draw would win Meet N' Greet passes. I was never entered into the draw because I didn't buy my ticket from the big corporation and went to another authorized seller/distributor instead.
2. In early July, the shitty organizer said that Cyber Army members would get a "priority queue" at the show for Meet N' Greet.
3. In late July, I caught Dave Mustaine in the Megadeth chatroom and asked him if he knew anything at all about Meet N' Greet in Singapore. He said it was up to the organizer.
4. Last week, the shitty organizer announced the winners for the draw and ignored my message to them asking them about the priority queue.
5. A few days ago, someone made a publicly-posted complaint to the shitty organizer on Facebook and to save face they finally answered. They then "made it clear" by saying that the only people authorized to Meet N' Greet were the 20 winners of the draw that I never had a fair chance in despite being an early bird ticket holder. They then said that Meet N' Greet never had anything to do with the Cyber Army.
6. I protested against this with other Cyber Army members. The shitty organizer then said that it is up to Megadeth's management.
7. The Cyber Army members then contacted Dave McRobb, who said it is now up to the band to decide Meet N' Greet status.
8. The band is already in Manila.

Needless to say, I'm extremely pissed off because I was short-cheated out of Meet N' Greet opportunities... twice; and that there will likely be no resolution to this situation until everyone is nice and happy with the money from this concert they're chasing after. And in essence, for Meet N' Greet - the band says it's up to the organizer, the organizer says it's up to the management, the management says it's up to the band. And I still have eleven papers to go for my exams to finish before the show. That's not related, but just when you think it can't get any worse, right?

Either way, I hope I can get to the venue in the morning on the day with my concert buddy so we can at least enjoy front row seats. She's free to go, but I need to ask for permission to skip school. :| And they had better play "Poison Was The Cure." Although there won't be a mosh pit, because Singaporeans are the lamest audience in the world from my experience at Lamb of God/Judas Priest.

And right now, the only organizer better than the one promoting this show is the one that did jack shit to get Megadeth into China and have now caused them to cancel their show there.

Oh, wow... I have no idea what to say except that I at least hope you can go.  The whole mess over the Meet and Greet passes is beyond ridiculous, but yeah...

The next concert on my list would be on October 27th, with Epica playing the Palladium in Worcester (I'd go the show in New York City, but it's on a weekday and Worcester is on Saturday).  But because it'd involve a long bus ride home for a weekend and my class schedule isn't completely set for this semester, and I can't even revise it for another couple weeks, I don't even have the ticket yet.  I really hope I can get it to work out, though, or if I do end up with Friday classes, I suppose I could skip...

Well, I had a nice gossip with the owner of the record store I go to, the same place where I bought my tickets. With the guy usually being the merch seller at every metal (and non-metal... I think he sold merch for Lady Gaga), he's worked with the organizers before. He claims they are "completely screwed up," that they "always say things that get them fucked in the end," and that he hopes he will never work with them again. I can see where he's coming from. I'm tired of how much they keep equivocating, and everyone else is too.

On the bright side, he's holding a big clearance sale of CDs along with the tour merch that includes the band's full discography at the show so I'll be able to get some cheap Megadeth stuff. I still need to buy physical copies for Killing Is My Business, The World Needs A Hero, and the Cryptic Writings remaster, which I prefer over the original I've acquired.

Awesome you get to see Epica. :) The bands (besides Megadeth; in the case Amorphis and Orphaned Land after watching their live DVDs :P) I really want to see barely even tour the States, so no chance of them coming anywhere near here.

As I expected, I've been cheated out of Meet N' Greet ops. Twice, too, because the organizer was supposed to fucking tell the distributor to collect my details but they didn't. After pages after pages of complaints, this is all they had to say:

Quote
To all, this is blown out of proportion. Megadeth is not replying because they do not want to meet! We will stop trying too. This is getting way out of hand. We have been calling and knocking and getting negative answers from the management
yet we keep trying because initially it was for 50 pax and they changed and capped it. Do we have to even explain given some promoters will just not allow fans to comment and posts or even delete their posts? We are going to stop wasting our resources calling US lines to check about the status. We had initially wanted to allocate the remaining 4 pax for meet and greet for there are some of the 20pax who have not replied with their details but this is just getting too malicious. We shall go as per the bands Management that there will be no more additional meet and greet except for the ones selected by LVP. The meet and greet will stand for the finalised selected who will be emailed. Please check your emails.
And in their entire history as a concert promoter, they have never used the word "sorry" even once. Nice to see them being butthurt because of valid complaints. How can it be unreasonable or "out of hand" for Cyber Army members to ask what the fuck happened to the priority queue you fucking promised them?! Thanks to these shitbags, I probably won't even enjoy seeing my favorite band.

Finally, a video of the "Holy Wars... In My Darkest Hour... The Punishment Due" medley in its entirety. I personally like the D tuning (although that may be from me playing permanently in D tuning on my own guitar ) a lot; but clearly Dave's voice STILL isn't as good as I thought it would be. And I don't know how this camera picked it up, but I couldn't hear a single damn thing that Chris played that night.

TAW, I don't know if you've already found out, but the long-awaited new Wintersun album has just been released. Well, the first half of it, anyway. Unfortunately it has no amazing solos from Jari Mäenpää (apparently that's reserved for Time II), but I can definitely see now why this thing took six years to make. But just let this song speak for itself.

Must say Time I is most likely the strongest candidate for my favorite album of the year; especially since 2012 has been, for the most part, lackluster in terms of metal releases (for me, at least). Hopefully the world doesn't actually end on December 21 this year - 2013 promises new albums from a whole bunch of my favorites: Megadeth, Amorphis, Stratovarius, Kalmah, Omnium Gatherum, and of course Time II from Wintersun - if it actually gets released instead of being delayed till 2020.

Damn, the link got taken down already?

Anyway, I'll give them a listen some time soon.  But with the Epica concert on Saturday, I'm basically trying to get much more of a feel for the opening acts at the moment so I can enjoy more of the show.

Well, in that case:

EDIT: And also, this one should probably be harder to find and take down:

It's actually mixed a little better than the actual album IMO, anyway.

Well, I would've written up this review yesterday, but it was kind of hectic trying to pack after I woke up late, the bus's wi-fi was very limited and by the time I got back to the dorm, it was very late and I fell asleep almost instantly.  But Epica lived up to their name the other night. :P That concert was awesome, and the whole weekend has definitely been the break I needed.

The meet and greet was done beforehand, although I didn't really get as much time to chat as I was hoping.  It basically overlapped with the signings, which in my case included the booklets for all five Epica albums plus Prison of Desire.  Mark liked the fact that I had all the albums, some of the other band members chuckled because I had an After Forever album thrown in, but I tried to justify it by saying I had to go through hell to find that album.  Mark confirmed that they were having trouble trying to rerelease the earlier material.  Ended up having a photo taken later where I tried to surprise the band with a death growl... I think Mark and Ariën joined in, but in the photo, it looks like I might have caught Simone off guard. :P

The show was great starting with Blackguard right at the beginning, who I'd never heard before but was pretty impressed by.  Really liked some of the occasional humor in the show, too.  Blackguard made a potshot at what would've been the opening act, some band with the weird name "Destiny Potato"... Something tells me I wouldn't have been happier with that lineup.

Since I was busy, I unfortunately didn't get the chance to get too familiar with any of the opening acts, but I did give System Divide a bit more of a listen than the others.  They were probably the heaviest of the opening acts, and also had the least keyboards or classical elements, but they were pretty interesting in their own way (and a bit funny, saying the song "An Intoxicating Affair" was "about Lady Gaga's underwear" :P).  Some of the opening acts were running the merch stands later in the show, which gave me a chance to chat and get an additional picture with their female singer, Miri Milman, and she suggested I send her a recording sample for advice on technique, which is great. :o

Insomnium was pretty good too and Alestorm was crazy awesome, but both were also a nice break for me to conserve energy for Epica's set.  I wanted to avoid doing too much screaming and shouting before Epica went on, but unfortunately, the concession stand also ran out of bottled water during Alestorm.  In hindsight, I should've just held on to the bottle and refilled it with tap water, but now I'm paying for it.  All I know is I need to do more to check out these bands later, because there were too many new songs that I didn't really get to take in.

Epica, on the other hand, was great.  I got much closer to the stage with them than any set, where I'd stayed off the main floor.  Nothing weird like mosh pits, which was nice. (There were some for Blackguard and crowdsurfing for Alestorm, but somebody I talked to said that she'd been to a show where they were moshing to Nightwish...) There were tons of older songs in the set, and three of the five album-closers, which was definitely unexpected.  I guess the best way to sum up just how surprising their set was would be their setlist, huh? :P

Karma
Monopoly on Truth
Sensorium
Unleashed
Martyr of the Free Word
Serenade of Self-Destruction
The Obsessive Devotion
Storm the Sorrow
Quietus
Sancta Terra
The Phantom Agony (with an unexpected disco-like twist on the chorus!)

Cry for the Moon
Blank Infinity
Consign to Oblivion

Tried to sing along with Simone at the top of my lungs for most of the songs (I only really forgot the lyrics to "Serenade"), but I was definitely a lot louder when I was following along with Mark, because the grunts were translated into a gravelly shout that I can only produce when I'm that desperate to be heard.  That's what kills my voice any time I come back from a show with a sore throat, but even in the second half, my singing range also took a hit.  A day and a half later, I'm still trying to get my voice back, but hey, at least I had a great time, right?

Also walked away with a lot of merch.  Got a new key ring that I can use to replace the Megadeth one, two matching oversized wristbands, the "Martyr of the Free Word" T-shirt (was a little unsure about it first because I didn't really want to have the "freedom of speech" line written on the back taken out of context), plus a few CD's.  Epica was selling all the studio albums, even the early ones from Transmission Records, but they also had The Classical Conspiracy going for as low as $15 so I had to have that.  Other purchases were The Conscious Sedation by System Divide and Quarterpast by MaYaN.

Pretty good night, all in all.  Now I just need to get my voice back. :D

I just saw pictures of the entire New York City subway shut down today; reminded me of how lucky you are to still be able to go to the concert. :P

Particularly awesome should be the opportunity to meet the band and get seven damn albums signed. I don't need to bitch about how I got shortcheated with Megadeth one more time, but those that didn't weren't even allowed to get ANYTHING signed (once again, I'm probably flying to Taipei next time to see a band I really want to see). As for the set... I wouldn't like it because I'm just slightly familiar with their three most recent albums and not at all with the first two; but I guess Simone, being the queen of headbanging, would make up for that. I can only imagine "Martyr Of The Free Word" live being one of the highlights? :D

And as for the opening acts... It seems that we draw further apart once again, because System Divide is my least favorite of the acts. Although, what, with the harsh male vocals and high-range female vocals, not surprised they were made an opening act for Epica. :P I know that Insomnium is a spot-on band live with emphasis on tight playing, but I can imagine the fun one would have seeing the band that is Alestorm live.

Glad you had a fantastic time!
