When the camera fades back in from the commercials, the show's titlecard is displayed over a shot of some jungle plants in the bottom-left corner of the Viper's Nest foreground. The pendant splits, the title shrinks into the distance and the camera segues to Kirk and the two remaining teams standing in front of the Pit of Despair.
"Welcome back to Legends!" says Kirk to the camera. "Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let's talk to our team players." He turns camera-left to talk to the boy on the Green Monkeys, a tall blond with icy blue eyes. "On the Green Monkeys, we have Hunter. How old are you?"
"Fourteen."
"And I hear you play football, but you want to work for the military," Kirk refers to the index card in his hand. "How come?"
"Well," explains Hunter, "I've seen them in action? It seems like a lot of work, but I like America r'and all, and I think I can protect it." He smirks.
"All right then," Kirk laughs before moving further to the left of the screen to talk to the other Green Monkey, a hazel-eyed girl with freckles and brown hair tied back in a single braid. "And his partner here is Danielle. How old are you?" He holds the microphone up to her mouth.
"Thirteen."
"And it says here you're good at science and you run track, but you've also been to two different countries," Kirk reads. "Where did you go?"
"Well," Danielle answers, "I went to Chile? and Argentina. I have family in Chile, and Argentina was right across the border." She smiles, showing two thin rows of braces.
"This is a traveling team," Kirk comments. "Let's hear it for the Green Monkeys!" Danielle raises her arms and cheers while Hunter claps along with the cheering audience. Then, Kirk goes to the right side of the camera frame to interview the Orange Iguanas, starting with a slightly-taller-than-average brown-eyed boy with curly black hair and thick eyebrows. "And on the Orange Iguanas, we have William. How old are you?"
"Thirteen."
"And it says you used to skate but now you're into martial arts. Tell me about that."
"Well," he explains, "I like both because it was always kinda? aggressive, but also there's a lot of? not quite grace, kinda? swift and precise."
"And what kind of martial arts are you studying?"
"Tae kwon do, mostly? a little aikido."
"All right, very nice," Kirk comments. He then goes to the far right of the screen to talk to William's partner, a hazel-eyed girl with her straight, strawberry blond hair draped over her shoulders. "And Lizzie, how old are you?"
"Fourteen," she says in response.
"And I hear you're on your school's swim team, but you also play the piano," says Kirk. "Tell me about that."
"Well, my parents got me into it when I was little, and now I actually play piano or keyboards for? school plays and musicals."
"Maybe you could join a band some day," Kirk suggests.
"I want to study classical music with it, actually."
"All right then," remarks Kirk. "We got a creative team, so let's hear it for the Orange Iguanas!" The audience applauds once more for the Orange Iguanas, during which William and Lizzie high-ten.
"Okay, you guys ready to play?" asks Kirk.
"YEAH!" reply the teams.
"All right, then go get ready for the Temple Games!" Kirk says, pointing in different directions; Danielle and Lizzie walk off in one direction, Hunter and William in another. "In the Temple Games, each team is competing to win?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life. The winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the DREADED Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple. There are three Temple Games. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #1."
Olmec begins:
"King Kal?kaua came up with the idea for ?Iolani Palace during a trip through Europe; he visited many countries and marveled at the royal palaces that still stand there today. In this game, you will take a much shorter journey from one side of this territory to the other. When Kirk gives the signal, choose a platform and step out onto it. If the platform sinks, run back and then try again.
"The first player to make it to the other side of the territory? or the player that's further along at the end of 60 seconds? wins."
"I hope her trip to Chile wasn't as hard as this," Kirk jokes before briefly glancing at Danielle. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock?" With a bang, a countdown clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and Kirk steps back to get out of the camera frame. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Danielle takes her first step forward in the closest of the three columns (C1), while Lizzie starts in the furthest columns (F1). She stays there as Danielle moves onto the middle step of the second row (M2), and neither sinks by their second step. However, Lizzie moves towards the middle and step M3 sinks, prompting Danielle to move towards step F3 instead (:53). "Green Monkeys just went ahead! Can the Orange Iguanas catch up?" Soon after, Lizzie recovers and correctly chooses her third step, but a series of intuitive moves lead Danielle all the way to M6 by the :46 mark. "Green Monkeys blazing! Can they? Ough!" Danielle chooses F7 afterwards, but it sinks, and she has to retry. "That was a good head start?!" Lizzie eventually sinks by incorrectly choosing M5, and heads back after only closing the team gap with 38 seconds remaining.
"Green Monkeys almost there, just a few more steps!" Kirk remarks as Danielle finally extends her lead again with 27 seconds to go. However, it isn't long until Lizzie catches up, and soon she is able to retrace Danielle's increasingly hesitant footsteps up to M9 with nineteen seconds left. "Green Monkeys need just one more to win; which one's it gonna be??" Danielle finally chooses to step out onto C10, but it sinks, enabling Lizzie to tie things up at M9 and then make a different choice for a final step. She moves out onto F10, it remains stable and she steps onto the deck with thirteen seconds left, ending the game.
"Oh, that's it! C'mon over here, girls! Let's check it out!" Kirk remarks, running onscreen and calling the players over. "Green Monkeys were this close?" he holds up his right hand, leaving a small space between the index finger and thumb? "but they fell, and the Orange Iguanas made it across before time ended. They get a half a Pendant of Life!" The audience cheers for a few moments. "Green Monkeys can catch up in the next game; it's worth a half-Pendant too. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #2."
Olmec continues:
" ?Iolani Palace was an enormous palace that took a long time to build, but in this game, you will only have 60 seconds to put four merlons on one tower. When Kirk gives the signal, grab a merlon, stick it to your helmet, climb the tower and place the object at the top. Then, come back down, grab another merlon and do it again.
"The first player to place all four merlon on top of the tower? or the player that's further along in 60 seconds? wins."
The camera transitions over to Kirk. "Some assembly required, huh?" he remarks. "Let's put 60 seconds on the clock?" The countdown clock reappears in the bottom-right corner, and an orange half-Pendant appears in the upper-right corner as Kirk backs up and out of the camera frame. "On your mark, get set, GO!"
Hunter and William move at distinctly different paces from the beginning? Hunter gets his first merlon on the top of the tower with 54 seconds to go, and climbs down just as William gets to the top. His speed with getting the first merlon on the top of the tower, however, helps him slightly close the gap between the players? along with Hunter's slow descent. Hunter starts up the tower again with a second merlon with 43 seconds to go, and William just a second later.
"Green Monkeys still blazing, but the Orange Iguanas are hanging in there!" Kirk declares as Hunter gets the second merlon on his tower with a healthy 34 seconds remaining and starts back down. He makes his way back down the pole much faster this time, though, and even gets the third merlon stuck to his helmet at the :26 mark. "Orange Iguanas falter? can they catch up?" Amidst his rush to stay caught up, William loses grip on the tower on his second descent and has to swing back to continue climbing down. He finally gets to the bottom with twenty seconds left, just as Hunter gets the third merlon on the tower and starts to head back down. "Green Monkeys doing great! They need just one more to win!" Hunter scrambles down his tower as William carefully climbs up his; Hunter starts back up with the final merlon with fourteen seconds while William finishes attaching his third merlon a couple seconds later. "Orange really gotta scramble for it; we'll see if they make it?!" William rushes down the tower and manages to grab his final merlon with a good amount of time left, but it's too little, too late? Hunter attaches the final merlon to the top of his tower, ending the game with seven seconds to go.
"That's it!" announces Kirk, and the indicators vanish from the screen as he runs over. "Green Monkeys got all their merlons up before time ended, so they get the half-Pendant of Life!" The audience applauds. "So now it's all tied up at a half-Pendant apiece, but this next game is worth a full Pendant. Olmec, tell us."
Olmec narrates:
"The men who built ?Iolani Palace had to work with a lot of stone and rubble, and in this game, you will have to work together to gather some rocks for another construction. When Kirk gives the signal, grab a boulder and throw it onto the chute above you. When it rolls off the other side, your partner must catch the boulder without it hitting the ground, and place it in your bin. Then, go on to the next one."
"The team with the most boulders in their bin at the end of 60 seconds? wins!"
"Whoever wins this goes to the Temple," Kirk reminds everyone as the camera segues over to him. "Sixty seconds on the clock?" The clock reappears in the bottom-right corner, with a green half-Pendant appearing in the upper-left and an orange half-Pendant in the upper-right as Kirk backs up and exits the camera frame. "On your marks, get set, GO!"
Hunter and William, with their backs connected to those of their partners by a bungee cord threaded through a wall separating the boys from the girls, run out and toss the boulders onto the overhead chutes. Neither team can act quickly enough to get either of the boulders in the bin on the first turn, however. "This game is tough! Takes a lot of communication, a lot of speed?" Neither team scores on the next few attempts, either; the first score comes at the :34 mark, made by the Orange Iguanas, but Danielle finally catches the first boulder for the Green Monkeys mere seconds later.
"They're both scoring, but they're both tied! Who's gonna win it?" Kirk remarks as the Orange Iguanas pull ahead on their way to the next boulder, but barely miss the catch. On the other hand, the Green Monkeys manage a second catch with 21 seconds to go, and Danielle tosses the boulder in her bin before she starts to back up towards the wall behind her. "Orange Iguanas need to catch up? can they make it through?" A few seconds later, in fact, Lizzie catches a second boulder for her team, and tosses it in the team bin with sixteen seconds to go. "This looks like it's tough to call, folks?!" In the last few seconds, both girls catch one more boulder, and toss them in the respective team bins. They try to back up against the wall and their partners run towards the next boulders, but the countdown clock reaches zero and splinters to indicate that time is up!
"Time's up! Stop right there!" announces Kirk, running over as the indicators vanish from the screen and a pattern of ceiling spotlights flashes to signal the end of the game. Spotters also run over to free the players from their harnesses. "Let's go over to the Green Monkeys first?" He dashes over to the Green Monkeys' bin, and pulls boulders out while counting. "They got one? two? three boulders. Orange Iguanas?" he runs over to the other side and does the same? "got one? two? three boulders! It's a tie, so both teams get the full Pendant. Both teams have a Pendant and a half; we go to a tiebreaker! Let's bring in the tiebreaker podiums!"
The camera cuts to two spotters rolling in the tiebreaker pedestal, and when they approach the teams, all four players are suddenly out of their harnesses and in front of the equipment for the final Temple Game. The spotters then walk off as the players run over to it; the Green Monkeys stand behind the camera-left gong, the Orange Iguanas camera-right. "Okay, here are the tiebreaker rules. In a moment, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, hit the gong in front of you. You'll have three seconds to answer and I must accept your first response. If you're right, you and your partner will be going inside the Temple, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other team a chance. All clear?"
The players nod in response.
"Okay. Olmec!" Kirk shouts. "What's the final question?"
Olmec asks:
"After the Hawaiian monarchy ended, did Hawaii become the: 48th state, 49th state or 50th state?"
Danielle hits the gong first: "The 49th state??"
"Incorrect," replies Olmec, and the Green Monkeys hide their faces.
"All right? Orange Iguanas??" prompts Kirk.
Lizzie speaks up: "The 50th state??"
"That? is? correct."
"It was a close match, but Olmec's made his choice!" Kirk declares as William and Lizzie hug while jumping up and down. "The Orange Iguanas are goin' to the Temple!" The Orange Iguanas occasionally break from their celebration to side-five the Green Monkeys. "The Green Monkeys were great all day? I wish I could send both teams to the Temple! But we got a great gift for them for making it this far and here's what it is." Hunter and Danielle will each be receiving a copy of the Pok?mon HeartGold Nintendo DS game.
The screen wipes to reveal only Kirk and the Orange Iguanas behind the tiebreaker pedestal. "These guys fought hard, and they broke the tie," he says, "and now we'll see if they can make it through Olmec's Temple and retrieve the Missing Armrest? right after this!" The camera zooms out, then focuses in on the ship wheel in the Pirate's Cove. The show's logo reforms over this shot and the camera fades to black for commercial.
