Roc's Feather

(We zoom in to a jungle that appears to be covered in a slightly volcanic ground. Soon we see Olmec, who is a bit more red than usual.)
OLMEC: Legends of the Hidden Temple! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!
(Kirk comes in from a pretend volcano.)
KIRK: Thank you! Nice to see you. Thank you Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?
OLMEC: The Legend of Roc?s Feather.
KIRK: Oh, Roc?s Feather. Well one of our six teams will have a chance to retrieve the feather. Will it be the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys, the Orange Iguanas, the Purple Parrots, or the Silver Snakes? They?re going to have to pass some tough physical and mental tests, but in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec?s going to tell us how they will do it today.
OLMEC: Before you stands an ancient tightrope curving in many directions. To get across, you must simply walk across the tightrope. However, you may not jump over to a farther part. Once the first player is across the tightrope, the second player must get across the tightrope. If one of you falls in the moat, the person trying to get across the tightrope must go back and start again. Once both players are at the other side, run over and hit the gong.
(Kirk hits the Green Monkeys? gong as a demonstration.)
OLMEC: The first four teams to hit their gongs will go onto the next round!
KIRK: Okay, teams! Are you ready?
TEAMS: YEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!
KIRK: And how about you, Olmec? Are you ready?
OLMEC: Let?s rock and roll!
KIRK: Okay, teams! On your mark, get set, GO!!!
(All the teams start walking across the tightropes.)
KIRK: There they go! Beginning the journey!
(The Orange Iguanas and the Green
Monkeys? second people are already walking across the tightropes.)
KIRK: Wow! Everybody?s fast today!
(The Orange Iguanas ring their gong, followed by the Green Monkeys.
KIRK: How in the world is everybody so fast today? Did they drink some hyper drink or something?
(As he says this, the Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots ring their gongs.)
KIRK: That?s it! Going onto the Steps of Knowledge are the Red Jaguars! And the Green Monkeys! And the Orange Iguanas! And the Purple Parrots! The Blue Barracudas and the Silver Snakes also gave it a great effort, they?re not going home empty-handed, here?s what they?ve won!

KIRK: As the quest continues, it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about Roc?s Feather. But before we get started, pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend could bring you one step closer to Olmec?s temple.
OLMEC: One of the greatest sailors in the world was Sinbad. Even though he kept on getting shipwrecked, he was a legend. On his fifth voyage, as they were passing a deserted island, they noticed a giant egg, noticeably belonging to a Roc.
CREW MEMBR 1: Yo, mate! You see that giant egg?
CREW MEMBER 2: Avast! To the egg we sail!
OLMEC: And so they looked at the egg, only to break it. They had the chick inside as a meal. Sinbad then recognized the folly of this behavior and order all back aboard ship.
SINBAD: Everybody! Back aboard ship!
OLMEC: But they were too late, as the infuriated parent rocs catched up with the ship. They destroyed it by dropping huge boulders they carried in their talons on it. Sinbad was shipwrecked yet again. Meanwhile, a feather fell off one of the rocs, and the strong wind blew the feather all the way to the temple! Your quest is to find Roc?s Feather and bring it back here!
KIRK: Thanks Olmec, so where is the feather?
OLMEC: Roc?s Feather can be found in the Math Room!
KIRK: Okay teams, you are now standing on the steps of knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you several questions about today?s legend. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. Try stomping on it!
(The Green Monkeys stomp down on their marking.)
KIRK: Okay, Green Monkeys, since you rang in first, you would be able to answer. If you?re right, you move down a step. If you?re wrong or run out if time, I?m going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to answer three questions correctly and make it to the bottom step will be one step closer to Olmec?s temple. Olmec, we are now ready for question one.
OLMEC: What voyage did Sinbad discover the roc?s egg on? His fourth voyage, his fifth voyage, or his sixth voyage?
(Orange Iguanas ring in.)
IGUANAS: His fifth voyage?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.)
OLMEC: What was inside the egg, a chick, a deer, or a daffodil?
(Orange Iguanas ring in.)
IGUANAS: A chick?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.)
OLMEC: What did the parent rocs destroy Sinbad?s ship with? Their beaks, boulders, or giant knives?
(Orange Iguanas ring in.)
IGUANAS: Boulders?
OLMEC: That is correct.
KIRK: The Orange Iguanas are going to the Temple Games! Next question, Olmec.
OLMEC: What did Sinbad discover on the deserted island? An ostrich, a giant egg, or Robin Hood and Marian?s Silk Ladder?
(Green Monkeys ring in.)
MONKEYS: A giant egg?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.)
OLMEC: What fell off one of the parent rocs? A feather, a beak, or a wing?
(Green Monkeys ring in.)
MONKEYS: A feather?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.)
OLMEC: Where was the giant egg located? In New York City, on a deserted island, or in the hidden temple?
(Green Monkeys ring in.)
MONKEYS: On a deserted island?
OLMEC: That is correct.
KIRK: The Green Monkeys and the Orange Iguanas are going onto the temple games! The Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots did a great job also, here?s what they?ve won.
DEE: It?s 2 courtside seats to the New Orleans Hornets! Enjoy great NBA players such as Chris Paul, David West, and Peja Stojakovic in the New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana!
KIRK: These two teams will fight for the right to enter Olmec?s temple! And they?ll do it right after THIS!

KIRK: Welcome back to Legends. Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let?s find out a little about our teams. On the Green Monkeys, we have Streeve, at age 14! He likes to play DDR and likes climbing mountains. And we have Jonnette, at age 12. She likes to play the trumpet and likes to play football. Let?s hear it for the Green Monkeys! And on the Orange Iguanas, we have Shaylo, at age 11. He likes to play basketball and football. And we have Rhonda, at age 13. She likes to play soccer and likes photography. Let?s hear it for the Orange Iguanas! These two teams are competing for pendants of life. They?re going to need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through Olmec?s temple. There are three temple games. Olmec, tell us about the first one.
OLMEC: When Sinbad and his crew members ate the chick inside the egg, the parent rocs attacked them. Now you will be protecting your egg. When Kirk gives the signal, Jonnette and Rhonda will start throwing mini-eggs at the giant egg. You can roll the egg around to protect it, or you can use your body to protect the egg. The first person to score 5 hits on the egg, or the person who has scored the most hits on the egg at the end of 60 seconds wins.
KIRK: Okay, teams! On your mark, get set, go!
(The Green Monkeys end up destroying the Orange Iguanas? egg with 22 seconds remaining.)
KIRK: Okay, this ? pendant goes to the Green Monkeys. Olmec, tell us about the next temple game.
OLMEC: The Rocs destroyed Sinbad?s ship by dropping boulders on it. Now you will be destroying ships. When Kirk gives the signal, Streeve and Shaylo will grab boulders next to them and drop them on the ships in the water below. There are 5 ships in the water. The first one to destroy 3 ships, or the one who has destroyed the most ships by the end of 60 seconds wins.
KIRK: All right, let?s destroy some ships! On your mark, get set, go!
(The Orange Iguanas have destroyed 3 ships with 33 seconds left on the clock.)
KIRK: Okay, this ? pendant goes to the Orange Iguanas. Now let?s move on to the third and final temple game.
OLMEC: A feather fell off one of the rocs while the rocs flew away. Over the years, we have gathered many Roc?s Feathers. When Kirk gives the signal, you and your partner will swing around on a pendulum-like thing, grabbing a roc?s feather as you get to the upper side. Then you must place the feather into the bucket. The first team to get all of their feathers into the bucket, or the team that has the most feathers in their bucket at the end of 60 seconds wins.
KIRK: Alright, feather collecting! On your mark, get set, go!
(The Green Monkeys have 8 feathers in the bucket when time runs out, while the Orange Iguanas only have 2.)
KIRK: Okay, the Green Monkeys had 8 feathers, while the Orange Iguanas had 2. That makes the score: The Green Monkeys 1 ?, the Orange Iguanas ?. The Green Monkeys are going to the temple! The Orange Iguanas had a great time here too, they?re not going home empty-handed, here?s what they?ve won!
DEE: They?ve won a REAL diamond! Explore this diamond in value, because a diamond is extremely rare!
KIRK: These impressive Green Monkeys are gonna see if they can retrieve Roc?s Feather and they?re gonna do it right after this!

KIRK: Welcome back to Legends. The Green Monkeys have proven themselves worthy enough to enter Olmec?s temple. But before we get started, would you give the Green Monkeys any clues on how to retrieve Roc?s Feather?

OLMEC: You could start by heading up into the Room of the Sacred Towers. Find the right combination by observing the towers and you may be headed into the Lava Pit! Break open the lava slabs and search for the actuator. Place it on the correct door and you may enter the Haunted Graveyard! Rip the tombstones out of the ground and place them in their correct holes to gain entry to the Artist?s Studio! Paint the picture using your team?s color and enter the Math Room, where you could grab Roc?s Feather! Solve the five sacred math problems to activate the powers of the five magical crystals which will open the door to the Shriiine of the Siillver Moonkkeey! Assemble the statue to gain entry to the Communication System! Connect the telephones to their closest holes and climb down into the Devil?s Lair! Attach the correct pair of horns to the devil and bust through the rock wall into the Blacksmith?s Workshop! Smith an item and place it on the anvil, but be careful! One of the items could be possessed by the spirit of a temple guard! Then you might gain entry to the Deserted Island! Break all of the palm trees on the island to unlock the door to the Log Cabin! Fix the holes in the walls of the cabin by finding pieces of wood on the ground. Then, race through the pit, climb through the Volcano, race down the stairs and back through the temple gate! The choices are yours and yours alone! You won 1 ? pendants in the Temple Games. Who?s going first?
JONNETTE: I am!
OLMEC: Very well, Jonnette! When Kirk gives the signal, you?ll enter the temple and make your way towards Roc?s Feather. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you?re caught without a pendant, you?ll be taken out of the temple and it will be James?s turn to try his luck. Hidden inside the temple is a ? Pendant. If you find it, you get an extra life. If you can reach the artifact, all the doors in the temple will instantly unlock, and the temple guards will vanish. Return to the gates with Roc?s Feather within three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded. And here?s how!
DEE: For just getting into the temple, you?re both going to get the newest edition of Homestar Runner DVDs! Laugh in amusement as there are some DVD-exclusive cartoons on this DVD that aren?t on the website! Grab Roc?s Feather within 3 minutes and you?re also going to get a $1,000 dollar savings bond from Dr. Pepper! Dr. Pepper tastes really good, and it?s healthy, too! KIRK: All right, Los Angeles! Let?s see if we can get them there. Let?s put 3 minutes on the clock. And Olmec, lower your gate please.
OLMEC: Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
KIRK: Okay, teams! On your mark, get set, go!
(Jonnette enters the temple via the Volcano.)
KIRK: She?s doing it the hard way! Will the immense heat stop her? I don?t know!
(The heat slows her down a bit, but she enters the Lava Pit with 2:43 remaining.)
KIRK: This room is also volcano-themed!
(She finds the actuator and tries it on the door to the Log Cabin, but it doesn?t open. She then climbs up and tries it on the door to the Artist?s Studio, but to no avail. She has no choice but to enter the Haunted Graveyard, where a Temple Guard awaits!)
KIRK: Oh, Temple Guard! She?s gonna have to give up a pendant of life! Now she has to place the tombstones in the correct places!
(She places the tombstones in the correct places and enters the Artist?s Studio with 1:57 remaining.)
KIRK: Oh, the Art Room! She has to paint in luxury!
(She paints the picture green and climbs down into the Log Cabin 1:33 remaining.)
KIRK: She?s in the Pilgrim?s House! She?s gonna have to help the invisible pilgrim fix his house!
(She fixes up the cabin and enters the Deserted Island with 1:15 remaining, where another Temple Guard awaits!)
KIRK: Oh, Temple Guard! Go on in, Streeve!
(Streeve follows Jonnette?s path and eventually makes it to the Deserted Island with 43 seconds remaining. He quickly cut down all 10 palm trees and entered the Blacksmith?s Workshop with 38 seconds remaining. He grabbed the half pendant on top of the anvil, hammered a bar into a helmet, placed it on the anvil, and entered the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with 25 seconds remaining.)
KIRK: He?s just one room away! All he has to do is assemble the statue and then he can enter the Math Room and grab the feather!
(He hurriedly assembles the statue and enters the Math Room with 6 seconds remaining.)
KIRK: He?s in the room! He?s in the room!
(He grabs Roc?s Feather with 4 seconds remaining, blazes into the Artist?s Studio, and dives across the Lava Pit into the crawl tube to the Volcano, all before time expired.)
KIRK: Oh, so close! You were both very fast, you still get the DVDs and the Dr. Pepper. We?ll see you next time on another Legends of the Hidden Temple! Bye bye!

Temple Run Summary: This was a pretty amazing temple run, even if it wasn?t a win. Jonnette knew what to do in each room, and even tried using the actuator on the door to the Log Cabin, the way that most contestants in my layout try to go. Then she tried it on the door to the Artist?s Studio, but that didn?t work either. She had no choice but to enter the Haunted Graveyard, where a temple guard was awaiting. The layout made her trek down the entire central shaft, which is a challenge for players to overcome. After Jonnette was caught in the Deserted Island, Streeve made good time through the temple. He made it to where Jonnette got caught in just 32 seconds, and he blazed through the next series of rooms. He even grabbed the hidden half pendant in the Blacksmith?s Workshop, but it turns out he didn?t need it. Overall this temple run was pretty good, but what I liked most was the last 4 seconds. After he grabbed the feather, he ran through the Artist?s Studio and literally dove across the Lava Pit and managed to get a few inches into the crawl tube to the Volcano, all before time ran out.
