I hope they remain competitive in the coming years because the AFC North will be a lot of fun with the Steelers, Ravens, and Browns in competition. Even the Bengals could join the mix if Burrow continues to improve gets an offensive line. ;)

Fixed it for you.

I'm personally not THAT impressed by Stefanksi this season. He's at least somewhere between "not bad" and "good", and yes he'll probably win Coach of the Year on the narrative alone, but I feel like I need to see more before I buy into him.

People forget that the Browns were the most hyped team going into 2019 because of their suddenly very talented core. Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham Jr, Nick Chubb & Kareem Hunt, Myles Garrett. If you take a closer look at that it's...basically the same core going into this season. Everyone just kind of forgot how talented they were because of how badly Freddie Kitchens fucked it up last year.

To me, the Browns' improvement from last year says less about Stefanski being great than it does about how awful Kitchens was. I'm certainly not dogging on Stefanski, but I personally feel like I need to see him sustain that success before I'm fully on board.

Yeah, Dolphins were probably the weakest of the bunch there, but that's not really a slight on them considering they were ahead of  schedule on a deep rebuild. In all likelihood, they'll be right in there next year too. Brian Flores has got to be in the conversation for coach of the year even with them missing out.

Playoffs feel like they're gonna be pretty much a tossup after the Wild Card round. AFC Wild Cards are still gonna be anyone's game, but NFC Wild Cards are a joke. Rams at Seahawks feels the only one that's even close to competitive.

Packers gotta be the favorite in the NFC, but far from a lock. In the AFC, it hurts to admit as a Chiefs fan, but I'm saying Bills are the favorite. Where the Chiefs have been winning ugly in the entire second half, the Bills have been firing on all cylinders. They're getting hot at the right time and as long as they don't suddenly hit a rut, I think they're the team to beat.

Oh hey, look at that. The Browns pulled it off to beat the Steelers and made the playoffs! Who are they playing?

The Steelers.

Yeah, wildcard picture in the AFC is crazy. Five 10-win teams not clinched yet is nuts, especially considering the expanded format this season.

And I've got to agree I'd love for the Browns to make it after the suffering they've endured for years, but honestly they have the toughest task to do it. Yes, the Steelers might be worse than their record, but it's still not an easy game to win, which they basically need to.

If they don't beat the Steelers, either the Colts or Titans have to lose, who are playing the Jaguars and Texans...those aren't games you can count on them losing.

The team that misses is probably going to be either the Browns or the Dolphins, cause they have the toughest games tomorrow. And that sucks for the Browns because Dolphins have tiebreaker on them. If they don't win tomorrow, it requires a miracle upset in the South to let them in.

I just hope for the Browns' sake they don't have to rely on Cody "Doink the Clown" Parkey to help win them the game.

It's truly uncanny how often he hits the uprights. If he just missed wide a bunch, like whatever, he's just a bad kicker. But god damn, the sheer amount of times he hits the uprights on the dot...I can't explain it.

With one week left to play, despite the expanded playoff pool this season, a 10-win team in the AFC is already guaranteed to miss the playoffs, with the possibility of an 11-win team missing out.

Meanwhile in the NFC, a 5-10 team is still in the hunt.

God the NFC East is trash.

If the Giants beat the Cowboys, and the Eagles beat Washington, the Giants will win the division with a 6-10 record, which would be the worst record a team has ever made the playoffs with. There's a sadistic, chaotic part of me rooting for it to happen.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Falcons take the lead with 5 minutes left.

Falcons drop an end-zone interception that would have iced the game.

Falcons allow the touchdown on the very next play.

Falcons drive back into field goal range to bring the game to overtime.

Younghoe Koo, who has missed 1 field goal all year, shanks it from 39.

Falcons gonna Falcon.

I'm not happy at all with how the Chiefs played today, but at least the Falcons gave us the gift of laughter at the end.

A pleasant instance where Ravens and Chiefs fans can both laugh at the Raiders together.

And the Chiefs' sloppiness I was talking about? On full display against the Falcons. No excuse for this game to still be 7-7.

The worst part about it: If the Browns miss the playoffs, they effectively lost their spot to the Ravens...who the league bended over backwards to keep delaying their game in week 12 after they had an outbreak. If the Browns lose this game because of their missing players and end up missing the playoffs, Cleveland will be calling for Goddell's head.

Even as a Chiefs fan, I'm nervous. Excited and hopeful, but nervous. They absolutely have the talent to beat anyone, but they've had really sloppy moments throughout the season. Perfect example against the Saints this past week, there was no real reason for Demarcus Robinson to even bother returning that punt at the end of the second half, so of course he fumbled it at the 5 and was just plain lucky it was only a safety. One moment I'll be saying "Fuck yeah, we've got this in the bag", and suddenly that changes to "What are you doing? Stop letting them back into the game!"

The Chiefs are definitely the team to beat, but it's far from a given if they can't clean it up. If we do get knocked out, I hope it's the Bills. I think they deserve it the most if it isn't the Chiefs.

But yes, we can all agree, Fuck the Patriots. :P Thank god the Dolphins and Bills are both developing well and can hopefully keep them in the hole for a while before they pop back up again. Wish I could say the same about the Jets, but they can't even tank correctly.

A behind the scenes video from season 3 roaming around on youtube gives some insight into this. Around the 9 minute mark we see the entire taping of the Mussel-Shell Armor temple run. (Separate thread talking about it http://phantomstemple.us.to/index.php?topic=3113.0)

It seems that at least as far as season 3 was concerned, just about every sound cue was played live. The only oddity I noticed is that we don't hear the cue for breaking the stone wall between the Dark Forest and Quicksand Bog, but that seems to be more of a case of they played the wrong cue during the live run. Where that cue should have been, we instead hear the Temple Spirit from the Dark Forest again. So it's probably a safe bet that by season 3, the only sounds added in post were incorrect cues being replaced, and the occasional re-recorded commentary by Kirk.

Seems like I wasn't the only one who stumbled upon this. An interesting view of the show from a different perspective for sure.

One of the things I always wondered was if there's some screen showing the timer so that the person in the temple can see how much time they have left. From the looks of it they did have a live overlay on a screen with the timer, but it looks too small to be seen from inside the temple. Like you mentioned, seems to mostly be used by Kirk to see from the camera's perspective when his live perspective isn't a good vantage point. I'm guessing the only things the contestants themselves really have to go off of is the intensity of the music and the occasional time check from Kirk's commentary.

Even though the overall feel does lose some magic with no crowd noise, I do find it wholesome seeing the production crew getting excited for them to win.

Just an update on where I've been:

About two weeks ago my family flew out to LA to get me to Pomona College.  We got in three days early so we could explore California a little bit.  We went to Santa Monica Beach and Six Flags Magic Mountain.  Orientation began last Sunday (August 25th) and for four days, all the freshmen went on "Orientation Adventures".  I went surfing at Santa Barbara.  Orientation still kept everyone busy for another few days.  Classes started for me three days ago, and this is really the first time I've been able to sit down at my computer for something other than school.

So, that's what's been happening to me.  With my course schedule I'll probably only be able to check in here on weekends, if even that, but I thought I should drop in really quick.
