Episode 10: The Wright Brothers' Unpreserved Propeller

(Camera moves through a thick jungle taking two wrong turns and finally revealing King Olmec)

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple!

(Title card forms)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg!

(Title card shatters)

Olmec: And here he is now!

(Kirk swings on a rope into the new Legends set)

Kirk: Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we gonna hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Wright Brothers' unpreserved propeller.

Kirk: Oh, the Wright Brothers' unpreserved propeller. Well, the legend is set and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the propeller. Will it be:

(Camera shows each team cheering)

The Red Jaguars?

The Blue Barracudas?

The Green Monkeys?

The Orange Iguanas?

The Purple Parrots?

Or the Silver Snakes?

They'll have to pass some pretty tough physical and mental tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple. But first, the must cross the moat, and Olmec will tell them how they'll have to do it today.

Olmec: Before each of you is an ancient rope that hangs above the moat. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will hang from the rope with their hands and feet and shinny across to the other side. Once the first player is safely across, their partner will cross the same way. When both players have crossed the moat, run over and hit the gong. (Kirk hits the Silver Snakes' gong) The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round.

Kirk: OK teams, are you ready?

Teams: YEAH!

Kirk: Are you ready Olmec?

Olmec: I sure am!

Kirk: On your mark, get set, GO!

Red Jaguars - 0:17
Green Monkeys - 0:30
Silver Snakes - 0:50
Blue Barracudas - 0:58

We've got our four teams right here! They are: The Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys, and the Silver Snakes!

Kirk: As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Wright Brothers' unpreserved propeller. Pay attention teams, because your knowledge of the legend will bring you one step closer to Olmec's temple.

Olmec: Two of the most well-known aviators in history were the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur. They were the ones who invented the first airplane, but what led to that was the previous three Gliders they made. Despite their performance, Wilbur was not satisfied.

Orville: But dear brother, our gliders went really far out there on our test flights!

Wilbur: But not good enough! We wouldn't even get to our bike shop from Kitty Hawk, and they didn't last long, anyway! We gotta come up with a better flyin' machine than those oversized kites!

Orville: Can't we just keep improving the Gliders?

Wilbur: Ah, they'll just keep fallin' apart. Wait! That's it! We need better parts!

Orville: Like what?

Wilbur: Like whatever we got in our shop, that's what! C'mon, we'll make a contender this time!

Olmec: Over the next few years, the Wrights made three Flyers; each one having better performance than the last, and the third becoming the world's first practical fixed-wing aircraft. One of the twin propellers from Wright Flyer I appeared in temple years after the plane was blown off Kitty Hawk. Your quest is to find the propeller, and bring it back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, now tell us, where is this propeller?

Olmec: The Wright Brothers' unpreserved propeller can be found in the Dark Forest.

Kirk: Teams, you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. But if you're wrong or ran out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's temple. Olmec, we're now ready for your first question.

Olmec: Orville was born in 1871, and Wilbur in 1867. How many years older was Wilbur?

(Male Red Jaguar rings in)

Kirk: Red Jaguars

Male Red Jaguar: Four.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Nice job!

(Red Jaguars move down)

Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: Before experimenting on aviation, the Wight Brothers worked at a…bike shop, a meat market, or–?

(Male Red Jaguar rings in)

Kirk: Red Jaguars

Male Red Jaguar: A bike shop.

Olmec: That is correct!

Right again! Step down Red Jaguars!

(Red Jaguars move down)

Now you guys are one step away. Next question.

Olmec: The name of their bike shop was originally called the Wright Cycle Exchange, but it was later on changed to Wright Cycle…Incorporated, Company, or Emporium?

(Female Silver Snake rings in)

Kirk: Silver Snakes

Female Silver Snake: Incorporated.

Olmec: Incorrect.

(Male Red Jaguar rings in)

Kirk: Red Jaguars

Male Red Jaguar: Company.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: We got our first team! It's the Red Jaguars!

(Red Jaguars move down and high five)

We still need one more team. Next question.

Olmec: How many Gliders did the Wrights make? Two, three, or–?

(Male Silver Snake rings in)

Kirk: Silver Snakes

Male Silver Snake: Three gliders.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Step down Silver Snakes!

(Silver Snakes move down)

Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: The Wright Gliders were biased of a…kite–?

(Male Silver Snake rings in)

Kirk: Silver Snakes

Male Silver Snake: A kite.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: There you go!

(Silver Snakes move down)

Now you're one step away. Next question.

Olmec: The most recent glider made was the Wright Glider III. Was it completed in…1900, 1902, or 1904?

(Female Green Monkey rings in)

Kirk: Green Monkeys

Female Green Monkey: 1902.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Nice job!

(Green Monkeys move down)

Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: The improved versions of the Gliders were called…wings, flyers, or–?

(Male Blue Barracuda rings in)

Kirk: Blue Barracudas

Male Blue Barracuda: Flyers.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Step down! Now you guys are on the board!

(Blue Barracudas move down)

Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: Which of these was not used in the making of the Wright Flyers? Hubcaps–?

(Female Blue Barracuda rings in)

Kirk: Blue Barracudas

Female Blue Barracuda: Hubcaps.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Right again!

(Blue Barracudas move down)

Now you guys are one step away. Next question.

Olmec: The first flight tests of Wright Glider I was at…Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, or–?

(Male Blue Barracuda rings in)

Kirk: Blue Barracudas

Male Blue Barracuda: Kitty Hawk.

Olmec: That is correct!

(Blue Barracudas move down, cheer with, and high five/ten each other and the Red Jaguars)

Kirk: We've got our two teams that are going head to head in the Temple Games! They are: The Red Jaguars! And the Blue Barracudas!

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends, now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, I wanna talk to our team players. On the Red Jaguars we have:

Cecil: Cecil.

Kirk: How old are you Cecil?

Cecil: 14.

Kirk: It says here that you play baseball. Now tell me about that.

Cecil: Yeah, I play for my school. I've got good speed and I hit the balls hard.

Kirk: We've got one good home runner here. Now who are you?

Vanessa: Vanessa. I'm 14 years old.

Kirk: It says here that you cheerlead.

Vanessa: Yeah, I'm the captain of my school cheerleading team. I've been cheerleading for years.

Kirk: How many years?

Vanessa: Well I started when I was in elementary school, so that would be like eight years.

Kirk: That's the Red Jaguars! Let's hear it for 'em!

Now let's talk to the Blue Barracudas. Who do we have here?

Brice: Brice.

Kirk: How old are you?

Brice: 11.

Kirk: It says here that you also play baseball.

Brice: Yeah, I'm not to good at it.

Kirk: Are you new to baseball.

Brice: Yeah.

Kirk: Hopefully you'll get better. Now who are you?

Elaine: Elaine.

Kirk: And how old are you?

Elaine: 13.

Kirk: It says here that you like to dance.

Elaine: Yeah, I take dance class. I've been doing it since I was five.

Kirk: What do you do for dances?

Elaine: Mostly jazz or hip-hop.

Kirk: Nice. Let's hear it for the Blue Barracudas!

Why don't you guys get set up for the second temple game over there and girls get set up for the first one here. In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. The winning team will need those pendants to protect them from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about the first one.

Olmec: The Wright Flyer I was an aircraft designed with two propellers. You are strapped to bungee cords on a mat with small propellers next to you. When Kirk gives the signal, take a propeller and insert it in the small plane in the corner, then come back and do it again. The first player to get two propellers in both airplanes, OR the player furthest along in 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: They're gonna get some planes flyin'! So let's get in position. Put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, GO!

Vanessa - 1
Elaine - 2 (0:16 Remaining)

Kirk: That's it! The Blue Barracuda got both of hers while the Red Jaguar was so close. That means the Blue Barracudas get a half a pendant of life! Red Jaguars can catch up in the next game; it's worth a half pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: Orville and Wilbur took turns flying their aircrafts, recording how far they went for each test. Let's see how far YOU'LL travel, here. You're at the top of a slide. When Kirk gives the signal, slide down as far as you can, then come back up the slide and go again. The player with the farthest distance covered at the end of 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: They're gonna fly down the slide! So let's get in position. Put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, GO!

Cecil - Same Distance
Brice - Same Distance

Kirk: Time's up! Both players had the same distance, so that means they each get a half a pendant of life! So far the Blue Barracudas have a full pendant; the Red Jaguars have a half. The next game is worth a full pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: Another difference between the Flyers and the Gliders was installing a gasoline engine. Before you is a ramp, and at the top is an engine with three switches connected. When Kirk gives the signal, make your way up the ramp, flip one of the switches, then slide back down. That will be your partner's signal to proceed. The team with all three switches on OR the team furthest along in 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: Time to start the engine, so let's get in position. Put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, GO!

Red Jaguars - 3 (0:22 Remaining)
Blue Barracudas - 2

Kirk: That's it! The Red Jaguars flipped all three of their switches right before the Blue Barracudas could flip their third switch. That means the Red Jaguars get a full pendant of life, giving them 1½; the Blue Barracudas only had a full pendant of life. The Red Jaguars are going to the temple!

Kirk: Welcome back! The Red Jaguars have earned the right to enter Olmec's temple. But before they get started, Olmec's gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Wright Brothers' unpreserved propeller.

Olmec: You could start by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeleton and pass into the Pit of Despair. Here, you must choose your next path. You could race up to the King's Storeroom, smash the clay pots and find the key that could take you down into Medusa's Lair. Place the snakes in Medusa's head and pass into the Room of the Ancient Warriors. Place yourself in the correct armor and open the door to the SHRIIIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Clockwork Room. Turn the gears to lift the weight, and you can climb down into the Dungeon where you could smash to the Dark Forest. But beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees. Find the key in the tree, and you'll enter the Bamboo Forest. If you escape, you could gain entry to the Throne Room. Sit upon the Throne of the Pretender, then race through the pit, CLIMB through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the temple gate. The choices are yours and yours alone. You won 1½ pendants in the temple games. Who's going first?

Cecil: I am!

Olmec: Very well, Cecil. When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple and make your way towards the propeller. Hidden inside the temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on. BUT if you're caught without a pendant, you will be taken out of the temple, and it'll be Vanessa's turn to enter and try her luck. Hidden somewhere in the temple is the other half of your pendant. If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life. If you can reach the propeller, all of the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the propeller in three minutes and you will both be handsomely rewarded and here's how:

Dee Bradley Baker:

First, you're both going to get…a powered Bluetooth loudspeaker! The Technical Pro loudspeaker uses Bluetooth technology to stream music wirelessly up to 30' and offer hands- free experience. It is suitable for use with cell phone, laptop or any other Bluetooth-enabled devices. Rock your party with club quality sounds using the one powered base speaker and two satellite speakers. From Technical Pro.

If you can grab the propeller before three minutes is up, you'll also receive…an EA Sports 72-inch 4-in-1 Swivel Table! Swivel design allows for quick and easy game changes. Features table tennis, hover hockey, finger shoot basketball and billiards. From EA Sports.

And if you get the propeller out of the temple before three minutes is up, then you'll both be going to Punta Cana! Blue Beach Punta Cana is a 12 two story buildings and the most intimate rooftop, Blue Pod Suites spread across six acres with 393 lineal feet of private access to the stunning Cabeza de Toro Beach. 38 luxurious and spacious suites, conveniently located in the main building with a design appeal to attract the contemporary traveller seeking ultimate luxury.

Kirk: They wanna go to Punta Cana, so let's get started here. Olmec, lower your gate!

(Olmec moans gutturally while the gate lowers)

Kirk: Get in position. Mouthpieces in. Put three minutes on the clock!

(Timer bangs down)

Kirk: On your mark, get set, GO!

(Temple run music starts and HUD moves in on screen)

Cecil heads up into the Crypt, tries the middle skeleton which doesn't work, and then the camera-left, which opens up the Ledges (2:51). He heads down, opens up the lower door (2:41), and rushes through the Pit of Despair. He opens up the Throne Room (2:37), sits on the Throne, and is greeted by a temple guard (2:29)! He gives up his pendant, tries to open the Bamboo Forest which was locked, and heads up into Medusa's Lair where he is caught by another temple guard (2:16)! Vanessa heads down into the Ledges and follows Cecil's path into Medusa's Lair. After the fifth snake was placed (1:45), she heads up into the King's Storeroom. She tries the left pot with no key, then the right, which does. She tries the pedestal where the pot with the key was, which doesn't work, then she smashes the remaining pot and tries its pedestal which opens up the Room of the Ancient Warriors (1:25). She tries the camera-right armor which opens up the Shrine of the Silver Monkey (1:18) and finds the other half of her pendant in the armor. She heads in and assembles the silver monkey in 15 seconds, opening up the Clockwork Room. As she starts turning the gears, a temple guard comes out (0:55)! She gives him both halves of her pendant and continues lifting the weight. Once the weight was up, she climbed down into the Dungeon. She busts through the wall, grabs the propeller (0:40), and makes her way through the Bamboo Forest, the Throne Room, the Pit of Despair, and the Ledges, and out (0:15)!
