Recently, there was a video uploaded to Youtube by one of the producers of the show, David Greenfield. The video shows some of the behind-the-moments during the filming of Season 3, like the belly sliding moat used during the Royal Torque filming day, the rock throwing team game, and even the entire taping of "The Mussel-Shell Armor of Apanuugpak" episode! This video was a pleasant surprise to me because we never really got any behind-the-scenes videos of the actual taping of the show. The temple run taping was definitely the most interesting part of the video and I recommend watching that part of the video at least. Watching Amanda and Gator run through the temple from the studio perspective is totally different from the final product. First off, you don't hear all the cheering like in the final edit. The temple run almost feels lifeless from this perspective. Another note is it looks like Kirk watches the kids on a TV screen while inside they are inside the temple. Makes sense considering it would be hard for him to commentate on their performance on the farther sides of the temple. I would love to see a behind-the-scenes video for Season 1 considering how chaotic filming this Season was.

The Temple Games / Legends Episode Seconds Game! - Round 1
« on: March 11, 2015, 03:53:36 PM »
I stole this idea from GameFAQS. The Paintbrush knows how this game works, as well does other users here I assume. I know a lot of people don't post here anymore, but I felt a new game would be fun and keep the forum active. It is different from the past games too. Basically, the game is pretty easy to play. You must make a separate post and look at your time stamp after your post is done. The seconds number(00:11:22) in your post corresponds with an episode next to that number. If you hit that number, then that episode will be eliminated. Last episode remaining wins! Here are some rules:

Rules:
- You can make a new post every hour.
- You are not allowed to delete or redo your posts. If you get an episode you don't like or get a time with no episode, you are not allowed to go again for another hour.
- To save time and posts, please update the list in the post with your vote. This will save this topic from getting spammed with a bunch of posts that might not eliminate an episode!
- If you end up getting a time with no episode, you must steal wait an hour. This is so we don't spam the topic to death.
- There are 20 different episodes from each season on the list randomly generated. I will hold another round later on with the episodes not used.
- Have fun! Last remaining episode wins!

I will start it off in the next post. ;)

Soundstage 18 / Top 5 favorite Nick Game Shows?
« on: February 27, 2015, 02:37:42 PM »
Nickelodeon had a handful of game shows over the years, especially in the 80's and 90's. What were your type 5 game shows from Nick?

Here's a list of some of the show game shows that appeared:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Nickelodeon_game_shows

1.) Legends of the Hidden Temple - Probably the most unique game show out of the list. There is a reason why I post so much on this forum because there is a lot to talk about! Every round of this show was unique. In addition, it placed great emphasis on partnership where it was important to gain synergy with your partner. Every episode was unique too and no episode is the same.

2.) Double Dare - Fun game show and Marc Summers was a host. The obstacle course was fun and I enjoyed the different games the players/families had to beat in order to win. Some of them were unfair, but it was awesome to see them win in the end.

3.) Figure It Out - Never watched the remake version, but this one was pretty entertaining. It featured some of the stars from our other favorite Nick shows and the premise was interesting. Lori Beth and Danny were the best combination too. And some of the talents were amazing. The only downside was that the panelists started to suck at the end. And so did a lot of the contestants "talents".

4.) Guts - I would ranked this show higher, but it never really captured me like some of the other game shows on here. It had some nice events and the Aggro Crag was an entertaining final round. Mike O'Malley and Moira were awesome also. But my main beef was that the competition was pretty one-sided. It felt like when a contestant was in last place, they had no chance to make a comeback. It was a good test though for the players to show their true potential. But I felt that Legends did it better.

5.) Get the Picture - Not very exciting at times, but I can sit down and watch it.

The Heart Room / Legends of the Hidden Temple Teams Rankings
« on: February 09, 2015, 02:14:04 AM »
I borrowed this idea from GM1's Episode Countdown thread he made a couple of years ago. ;) Basically, I am going to make a countdown of my own but instead rank the teams on the show. I have put a lot of thought into this list and I found that it would be nice to share it here. I don't expect many people to respond or give feedback given the state of the forum, but this is just a way for me to retain my interest in the show. I will try to update this as much as possible. ;) Any feedback would be nice but it is only optional.

I will post my first rankings in the next post. ;)

The Heart Room / Episodes where all three guards were unavoidable?
« on: February 04, 2015, 12:16:23 PM »
We always talk about the episodes where the temple guards were avoidable, but what about the episodes where all three guards were unavoidable? It was a rare occurrence, but it was certainly possible on the show. Here are some runs that come to mind:

- Nathan Hale (Crypt, Observatory, King's Storeroom)
As far as I can tell, the Silver Snakes could not avoid any of the temple guards in this run. James tried entering the Ledges, but it was a dead end and he was forced into the Crypt which had one of the guards. And then the other two rooms entered were pretty much forced onto the team. Even with 1.5 Pendants, they were forced to meet all the temple guards. Which makes it even more important that this team should've found that half-pendant.

- Belle Boyd* (Tomb of the Headless Kings, Dark Forest, Room of the Secret Password)
I guess you can say the Dark Forest guard could've been avoidable because it was in the stage right tree. But of course the team is going to try and find the key with that long of a layout. So I feel that the three temple guards were forced in this run even if they could've avoided the tree guard.

- Dried Ear of Corn (Chamber of the Sacred Markers, Room of the Ancient Warriors, and Dark Forest)
This episode had a temple guard layout exactly like Sir Gawain, except none of the guards were avoidable. Even the ark Forest guard was forced.

Are there anymore runs that could be added to this list? That's all I can think of right now. :P

6
We always diss certain temple teams on the show because they sucked in the temple. While they deserve the criticism they get for their temple run performance, there are a few teams that were actually pretty dominant before the temple but turned out to have a disappointing run. Let's make a list of all these teams! Here are a few that come to mind:

  • Kim and Billy, Lost Hammer
  • 1st in the moat, 2nd in the SoK, beat Orange Iguanas 2-1 in the temple games. (Won both individual games, tied the team game)
Press the button, Kim! We all know that the Lost Hammer run was one of the worst temple runs ever on the show. Kim literally did not know how to press a button at all in the temple. And out of 120 episodes, she is the only contestant that got stumped by this. -_- Billy was no prize himself as he moved slow, failed to take a shortcut, and wasted time in the Spider's Lair. But before the temple run, Billy and Kim were actually a strong team. They came out first in the moat and won their individual games also. Why did they suck so bad in the temple?

  • Shane and Jackie, Oracle Bowl
  • 1st in the moat, 1st in the SoK, beat Silver Snakes 2-1 in the temple games. (Won both individual games, tied the team game)
This episode is exactly like Lost Hammer. For the first Purple Parrot appearance, Shane and Jackie did a great job. They were first in both the moat and SoK and both players won their individual games. Its one of those teams you have high hopes for in the temple. Shane did continue his outstanding performance in the temple, but Jackie was so awful though. She moved way too slow, didn't try any shortcuts, and got lost in the Pirate's Cove for almost a minute. Maybe it is not as disappointing as Lost Hammer since Shane was a beast. But this team still should've done much better.

  • Heather and Tony, Stone Head
  • 2nd in the moat, 2nd in the SoK, swept the Silver Snakes in the temple games
In my opinion, this is one of the most disappointing temple teams ever. Heather and Tony did great before the temple including finishing second in one of the toughest moats ever and destroyed the Silver Snakes in the temple games. They looked unstoppable before the temple run. Inside the temple though, they only traveled through 5 rooms. I know Tony getting stuck with four snakes Medusa's Lair was pretty brutal, but it should not have taken that much time nor should the team have only traveled through 5 rooms. Especially when the Captain John Smith team had a similar layout and still had almost 30 seconds left despite their run ending in triple capture.

What other teams do you think should be included on the list? You don't have to do it in my format, I can add them to the original post. ;)

The Heart Room / What are some ways to improve Season 1?
« on: December 25, 2014, 02:23:39 AM »
Season 1 is regarded as the worst season out of all 3 seasons of the show. Being a fan of the show for decades now, I have noticed that the very first season of the show was very weak compared to later seasons. Now, I don't expect this to be a high quality or perfect season, but there were a lot of flaws that you can see during this season that the producers never corrected even towards the later end of the season. Luckily, the producers corrected their flaws in the second and third season as the show progress. What changes would you have made to Season 1 though to make it better? It could be minor things that would've made the episodes flow more smoothly or overhaul something that was flawed.

In my opinion, the biggest flaw was the temple itself. It contained way too many easy rooms that had extremely easy objectives, while some rooms had no objectives at all! This was one of the biggest flaws of the season because it diluted the quality of the temple runs. Most fans don't take most of the Season 1 runs seriously because almost every room a team entered had no objective. Which is too bad, because Season 1 had a few strong wins like Galileo, Sultan Saladin, and Lawrence of Arabia. Plus, a lot of the rooms were just pointless - Heart Room, Fallen Columns, Observatory, Swamp space, Throne Room, Dungeon, and Torch Room were some of the worst rooms on the show. And I am probably missing some! If the producers put more objective rooms in the temple, I feel that Season 1 would've gotten more love. The only good rooms from Season 1 are the Shrine, Tomb of the Ancient Kings, and Bamboo Forest. Everything else had no objective or a way too easy objective.

Another change I would make was make higher standards for the kids in order to join the show. I know this was a new show for the kids and every season had their fair share of bad players. But Season 1 had a lot of kids with no talent, whether they made it to the temple run or not. I mean look how lop-sided some of the age groups were? All of the players in Lucky Pig were 10 and 11 years old. And in Mata Hari the Silver Snakes were 12 and 14 years old. And in Trojan Horseshoe, the Green Monkeys were considerably older than the Silver Snakes! Not only that, Season 1 featured some of the stupidest kids on the show - Kim, Sabrina, Kristen, Lisa, Ron, Justin from Zenobia, Golden Ship, etc. I know it was a new show, but when you get teams like Golden Cricket Cage making it to the final round you know your standards are very low.

What changes would you make? ;)

We always talk about temple teams who really should've won in the temple but end up losing for one reason or another. How about temple teams that shouldn't have won but still managed to do somehow? I am not talking about runs like Silk Ladder or Butch Cassidy where even though those teams were undeserving, they still won handily in the temple run because they had favorable layouts. Nor am I talking about the one second wins either although you can make arguments for them.

One run that I am surprised was even a temple win was "Davy Crockett". Shannon and Adam's temple layout was pretty short and easy, but this team barely won with 4 seconds. It was basically "Silk Ladder 2.0" with an extra room tacked on. And none of their rooms they entered were really hard. Yet, Adam moves slow as a rock and doesn't even speed up when exiting the temple with the Collar. I am VERY surprised that this team won and if they had one more room objective, it would've been a failed escape run at best.

Both of these Silver Snake triple captures are praised a lot on this forum, and it seems like people feel differently about these two runs. So let's settle this once and for all! Which run do you prefer - Kamehameha or Great Seal? Please feel free to express your opinion below. ;)

Anyways, I thought both of these triple captures were the best on the show and they deserve all the love they get. Which one did I vote for? I went with Kamehameha. This temple run is both exciting and tragic at the same time. Robbie and Tina were a very strong and entered every room of the temple with still almost a minute left while finishing one* room away. But the ending to this temple run is very tragic. Robbie was pissed, Tina and Kirk were unhappy, and even the audience felt sorry for them. Of course, the delayed temple guard that captures Tina in the Tomb of the Ancient Kings also made this run memorable.

Great Seal is another exciting run too. All of the temple guard moments were some of the best on the show, and I love Shay's reaction to her two guards. And Nick's ending was a classic too! Even Kirk's lame commentary was hilarious in this episode too. And of course Nick and Shay were a strong team too! However, the I prefer Kamehameha slightly over Great Seal because the heartbreak ending was a little more "touching" than the ending to the Great Seal run. ;)

Two exciting Silver Snake triple captures with crazy endings -- Which one do you guys prefer? :mrsilver:

We are always talking about episodes where the Purple Parrots would do better had they gone to the temple. Despite having very few temple appearances, the Purple Parrots were still a pretty dominant temple team and appeared in many temple games. In this topic, I am going to cover a temple LOSS where the temple team loses. We will decide whether the losing Purple Parrot team would do better than the current temple team. I know that a lot of this topic is based on speculation (the losing team could be a Jessica and Jarrid or a John and Tia), but you can also judge how well the players will perform by their pre-temple performances.

First up is "The Golden Cup of Belshazzar"! Here is a summary of the Red Jaguars progress in that episode:

The Heart Room / Worst temple game on the show?
« on: December 08, 2014, 11:18:23 PM »
I don't think we have ever discussed this before since there is not much temple game discussions. Legends featured a lot of temple games throughout its three season tenure. A lot of the temple games were reused in multiple episodes, sometimes with different objectives. What do you think is the worst temple game on the show? It could be a temple game that had dumb rules where the kids struggle. Or ones that were simply unfair to the players.

I have to say that the "water slide climbing" temple game from Season 1 had to be the worst temple game on the show. It was a very hard task for the players to complete, and it didn't help that the producers forced the players to stand on their knees. Often times, these temple games were low scoring where the final score was 1-0. And then there was the infamous "Genghis Khan" round where neither player scored. And it was always annoying to hear Kirk shout at the kids to remind them to stay on their knee. And this temple game must've been used in 75% of the Season 1 episodes.

Honorable mention goes to the luck squirting games like used in "Annie Taylor". I hate those luck-based games because it might reward an undeserving player over a talented one. That temple game was much better for memory-based games like in "Sacred Ring".

What temple games did you think were bad?

12
Since we have done one for 4/6 teams, we should me onto the Silver Snakes! Same rules as other topics where you rate the runs on a scale of 1-10. ;) I think this team might be the most interesting due to how God Awful some of their runs are and also have a few gems too.

After taking a month off from the show, my Legends knowledge became a little rusty. But now that I am more active, everything is coming back to me. While I was off though, I was thinking what are some moments on the show that are have been blown out of proportion? And what about moments that do not get criticized or acknowledged enough? I am going to make at least answer some of these questions:

MOMENTS THAT GET TOO MUCH CRITICISM:

"Golden Pepperoni": I have to say that this is the most exaggerate temple run on the show. I just have to *facepalm* myself whenever I see this episode included on a "worst temple run of all time" list. We all know the outcome of the run and how Aqila passed up the Golden Pepperoni when she entered the room of the artifact with time running out soon after. Was it a pretty big fail? Sure, it did cost her team a second prize. But I never have seen the big deal about this run even after watching it the first time. Aqila only had 3 seconds to herself when she entered the Room of the Secret Password. Its not like her team was going to win anyways even if she did grab the artifact. I was expecting some fail on the same level as "Golden Cricket Cage", but surprisingly this run was pretty decent.

"Dolley Madison": This run reminds me of TMH's review where he calls Ashlie a "tard" and makes her look like she was another Karisa. I was expecting another disaster run like "Enormous Feather" where the second runner blows it, but this one actually was the opposite. Ashlie was the sole reason they lost, but at least she was fast and used her shortcuts. So she had something redeemable about her and at least she tried in the temple. Ashlie is no where near as bad as other second runners who blew it like Ron, Karisa, and Brad.  :?

MOMENTS THAT DON'T GET ENOUGH CRITICISM:

"Lucky Pig": It always felt that Kristen got a free pass in this run because she had a hard layout and made it pretty far for a Season 1 girl. But my God, this girl was horrible. She got lost in every single room, moved so slow, couldn't climb the wall, and spent all three minutes entering almost every room and still fails to reach the artifact. She is the reason they lost this run, not because of the layout. A good contestant like Lea from "Sultan Saladin" or Jennifer "Map to the Lost Gold Mine" would've won this.

"Missing Weather Maps": I am not sure why this run doesn't get maligned enough. I remember reading several episode summaries about this run before watching itself. Basically, they just said that this team was the closest to getting an artifact in the Dark Forest. The part they left out? How Kim f***ed up this run big time. -_- Seriously, she was one of the worst players of Season 2 and the whole show. She failed miserably in this run, but her run is not mentioned nearly as much as Kerry, Karisa, Kimberly, and Sabrina. Those players sucked too, but Kim was equally as bad as them.

"Icarus": This run was cringeworthy when I first watched it, and it is still painful to watch to this day. Never did I find this run exciting or a "nail biter". This run comes off as another "Henry Morgan" sometimes due to how close the ending was. Unlike Shem and Ashley's run though, Jason screwed up big time. He was just a moron and had more than enough time to bring the Broken Wing out and still fails to succeed. He deserved to lose after all that.

Please feel free to debate anything on the list or add something of your own. ;)

Another team rating topic!   I know there is one already going on for the Blue Barracudas, but that one is almost over with. Plus, the Green Monkeys are a special team too and I would like to rate their runs. Especially since they have a lot of strong runs. ;) You know the drill now too. Like most rating topics, we will rate the runs on a score of 1-10. Remember to rate them on how they compare to other runs for that team only. ;)

First off will be "The Plumed Headdress of Cosa Rara". This was picked randomly BTW. I would never start off with such an awful run.  :afro:

I know this is a little early, but the Red Jaguars thread is almost done. Plus, the Blue Barracudas are one of my favorite teams and a lot of their runs are interesting. Same rules as the other topic. We will rate each Blue Barracuda run on a scale of 1-10. When rating the Blue Barracuda runs, only compare them to other Blue Barracuda runs and not for other teams. ;) As usual, have fun!

We will start off with "The Missing Portrait of Hans Holbein".  :mrblue:
