Legends Hot Takes and Unpopular Opinions
« on: December 20, 2019, 09:19:32 PM »
Not expecting this to get much attention but here are mine:

The Snakeskin Boots of Billy the Kid run is overrated and not an impressive win since the path was literally easier than the Butch Cassidy layout.

The Silver Horseshoe of Butch Cassidy run is overhated and is boring at worst. Paula gets too much shit for having a path that happened to avoid hard objectives.

The wall would have broken down in Nzinga.

What are some of yours? Disagree with any of mine?

It's been a while since I talked about Legends, so hopefully some of these opinions are still considered unpopular. :afro:

As much as I love the Billy the Kid run, I agree that the layout was very simple. The team should've had more than 4 seconds left, but Kelly wasted almost 50 seconds even though she only entered 3 rooms. But I feel that this win is loved for being the first Purple Parrots win ever opposed to the layout. Besides, I do remember this win getting it's fair share of hate.

I'm one of those people that's not a fan of the Butch Cassidy win. But I can't hate on Paula's performance and she did a great job in the temple and can't hate her for her performance. She moved fast through all her rooms and was smart for not taking a direct path. The reason I'm not a fan of this run is because people used to drag the Annie Taylor run while praising this one at the same time.

Just some of my unpopular opinions:

- Jeremy from the Robert the Bruce episode gets a bad reputation for cheating. If you watch his temple game, I think he didn't know that you couldn't use the small space between the upper level and trampoline to advance in the temple game. I think it was an honest mistake. Besides, he got caught anyways and was forced to retry the jump. In the end it costs him a half-pendant, but people try to use his cheating as karma for losing in the temple.

- James and Christina from Nathan Hale were screwed out of a half-pendant in the temple games. In the Attack Philadelphia temple game, Christina loses one of her sign pieces because the sign was upside-down. But Olmec doesn't mention that orientation mattered for this temple game. So this team got screwed out of having 2 Pendants. No excuse for Christina missing the easiest half-pendant ever, but the team did get shafted though.

- Brandy and TJ from Red Sash get too much criticism for their temple loss. That temple layout was long and hard like Missing Portrait and Robert the Bruce. Brandy assembling the Silver Monkey was actually a good call because it opened the Quicksand Bog for her team. I don't get why people criticize her for doing that. TJ should've saw the Quicksand Bog open, but they were a strong team that probably would've lost anyways due to how long that layout was.

Hey TRJ, in the Red Sash run, the male runner's name is Quentin. Fogg-Up god strikes again! XD

-The Golden Cup of Belshazzar was an unwinnable layout due to production errors. My thoughts on this temple run can be found here:

http://phantomstemple.us.to/index.php?topic=2988.0

-The Mask of Shaka Zulu temple run should've been redone. I think we all know the door connecting the Tomb of the Ancient Kings and the Holes of Python wasn't supposed to open. Personally, I would've had them redo this run.

-The Electrified Key of Benjamin Franklin is the most disappointing temple run ever. This layout was setup for victory and this team threw it away with their poor path choices. The second runner even almost chose the other starting room, which would've ended the run super early like in The Walking Stick of Harriet Tubman.

-The second runner in The Two-Cornered Hat of Napoleon didn't hit the button in the Mine Shaft leading to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. My memory is a little fuzzy, but if I remember correctly, it looked like she didn't even touch that button. She then proceeded to ride the elevator and that threw away any chance of victory.

-Miriam in The Secret Map of the Bandit Queen wasn't a bad player. She did great up until the Dark Forest. I remember her partner Zac was interviewed and he said Miriam was terrified of the Dark Forest, so it's obvious she didn't want anything to do with that room. Obviously that's no excuse for backtracking as you have to face your fears. Besides, it's a fictional temple. However, before that, I thought she was fast and she was doing quite well.

-Jay from The Good-Luck Watch of Empress Eugenie DID hit all of the buttons at once on the middle painting in the Jesters' Court on his first try, but for some reason it didn't register and this potentially cost them the win. Again, my memory is fuzzy, so I could be remembering it wrong, but I do feel that he did hit all the buttons. It should've counted.

After some time when I compare the Galileo’s Cannonball run to some others it feels extremely simple since the only real task that Jennifer and Jammin Jon had to face altogether was the Silver Monkey. So I feel we give this run perhaps maybe too much credit. It was also a one second victory as well and Jon was indeed fast when it mattered most, but this run did lack skill.

Lol, it's been a long time since I've watched Legends, so I'm surprised I'm getting their names right at all.  :P

And to add insult to injury, Katherine and Sean's temple run was already postponed from the S1L1 layout. So they had to come back to the studio another day for their temple run and were handed one of the hardest layouts ever. There are people on Youtube that call this run bad, but it was literally unwinnable. Plus, Katherine was moving pretty fast in the temple.

I actually think Bobby cheated in the temple. If I remember correctly, he did push the button leading to the Tomb of the Ancient Kings, but it sounded like the door didn't unlock. But then he plays around with the door and it looks like he forced it open with his hands. Billy from Lost Hammer did the same thing as well.

I have a soft spot for this run, but I agree it's a very flawed run. Peter had no reason to enter Medusa's Lair at all other than he kept trying to take the direct path. If he entered the King's Storeroom, it would've been a solo win. Also the first bottom of the central shaft win as well. Imagine having the first bottom of the central shaft AND center of the temple win back-to-back?  :mrblue:

I agree, I don't think Carly pressed the Mine Shaft-Shrine button correctly. Or she didn't press it at all. I find it hard to believe that the producers would lock both shortcuts to the Shrine, especially since this layout was similar to Nose Ring and Jeweled Necklace. If she never took the Mine Shaft elevator, she would've won!

I think some fans forget that most of these contestants were 11-13 year old. You can't expect them to be perfect and I think some mistakes get blown out of proportion. I think Miriam did an alright job in the temple and it looks like she knew what she was doing. I think the reason she backtracked was because she was afraid to enter the Dark Forest. At least she had an awesome teammate like Zac. I like how he never badmouthed her, even all these years later.

I think it was a production error too. It looks like Jay did press all 3 buttons on his first try. You can also tell that someone is telling him to try the middle painting again offsvcreen. I don't think they would've won even if the painting worked the first time. Unless it could've been an Emiliano Zapata type ending.

I'm one of those people that enjoys this win, but I don't mind if others don't feel the same way. The temple run did feel extremely awkward with the unusual editing and Kirk sounding like he was confused. I think it's worth mentioning that this was possibly the first temple run ever. So neither Kirk or the kids had any idea what they were doing. Plus, Jennifer mentioned in her interview that the Mine Shaft elevator got stuck for Jammin John. For one of the first temple teams ever, I think Jammin John and Jennifer did a good job.  ;)
