How would legends be different if it was done in 2006

How do you think legends would be different if it were made today rather than in the early 90's. How would the temple be different? Would the show be better or worse?

The artifact would always be hidden in the ledges because today's obese children would need three minutes just to get through there. 8)

OK, seriously, I don't know what they could have done different. The show seems well done, even by today's standards.

You know, I wanted to write an article on that very question for my site at one time, but I never got to it (like 40% of the things I've planned for the site...)

The truth is, I don't think Legends would work on Nickelodeon today, and it would be challenging to adapt it to today's kids. The way I see things, kids are exposed to much improved technology than the Legends era, and value realism a lot more than they used to. In addition, kids' imaginations are less-developed than they were 13 years ago. Considering both of those facts, the idea of a talking stone head would not "fly" with today's kids as well as it did before, not to mention the rather uninteresting history lesson he tells.

Now, about Kirk... both his criticism and compliments come from the fact that he remained relatively calm through the course of the show. That, combined with his largely unvaried speech, prevented him from cracking stupid jokes, or being too eccentric. He may not have been a favorite of the kids watching the show, but it didn't matter because that was Olmec's job. If they redid the show today, there's no doubt in my mind the network would hire a host like Jason Harris, with too much energy for his own good.

I can just picture a better-themed temple, though... Larger rooms, foliage everywhere, waterfalls... it could really be splendid if done right. Also, studio 18's ceiling was only 33 feet off the ground, which didn't allow for much vertical expansion. But if the ceiling was higher, spacious rooms would be awesome. I have a design I think would be great, but it's be tought to make a picture of.

Discovery Kids' vision with Endurance is exactly what it should be for Legends.

By the way, forgive any typos you read in this post. I had to type it quickly...

everyday some kids parent would sue the show for having temple guard grab their children claiming it was sexual harrasment.

oh god help them if they got some tool like Jason Harris to host Legends.

He sucks at life. Kirk sucks at hosting, but at least he acted like a real person on the show. He worked well with the kids too. His temple commentarys were great no matter how much me messed up the room/artifact/team/contestant names.

Or maybe it was BECAUSE he screwed up the names.  All these years later, his ineptitude is an endearing part of the show.  Kirk was not a good host, but he's too earnest for one to really hate him.

Although "Legends" is still run on Nick GAS, I can't help thinking that there are a lot of kids out there who think the show is really lame.  I'm not sure if it would work today or not.  One thing that should be changed, needless to say, are the prizes.  Surprise Bags would be an even bigger insult today than back in '93.

The funny thing is, Kirk may not have been a good host, but at the same time I cannot imagine somebody else doing it better. The Amazing Race guy is the best I can think of.

Phil Keogan. Not sure about the last name haha. I just started taping the new season.

OT: nicklegends: if you don't mind (& the circumstances are right), could you post a request on your site to show The Collar of Davy Crocket & The Plumed Headdress of Cosarara again, if I miss them??? Haha, GaS is pissing me off so much now.

Phil might be a good replacement for Kirk, but those would be some big shoes to fill.

Kirk being a bad host was part of the show and it's the reason everyone likes him.

JD Roth would be the only real replacement for Kirk that i could see because he does kids shows and has been for a while now.

You know, I think I'm done taking requests. You have absolutely no idea how many e-mails I got after I did that asking if I could show such-and-such episode. It's nice to be a webmaster, but as far as the e-mails go, it's usually disaster ("How do I get on the show?" "What was it like hosting the show?" "ya I wsa on teh Iron Nose Ring of Babe the Ox epssode, interrvew me.")

NOBODY REPLACES KIRK FOGG!  Everyone, change the subject.  Kirk stays.  Carry on.

Amen. Jason Harris scares me, and Phil is...meh. For me, Kirk is an element of Legends that makes it memorable for me. I'm actually almost older than the show, and I still like it after all these years.

Curse Nick and its wannabe Mtv format!
