I'd definitely be down in doing a Legends podcast...but what would each episode be about?

The Dark Forest / Christmas Wish Lists
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:01:20 PM »
I'm trying to get me a new axe. I asked for an Ibanez GRX20, but if I don't get that then I should have enough money after Christmas to afford an Epiphone Les Paul Jr.
Along with the new guitar I'm asking for some effects pedals. Nothing real fancy, just a really cool-sounding distortion pedal, a wah pedal, an auto-wah, and a flanger, but I really want the 1st 3.
Video game wise I really want Left 4 Dead and House of the Dead: Overkill.
On the CD spectrum I really want the debut album by Them Crooked Vultures, Slayer's new album World Painted Blood, and Absolution by Muse, along with Reel Big Fish's live album and NOFX's greatest hits package.
I'm hoping to get a copy of Crank: High Voltage and/or Anvil!: The Story of Anvil DVD-wise.
And finally, I'm even asking for a book: Dexter by Design, the latest in the Dexter series of novels.

I've only heard "All Nightmare Long" once on the radio, when I was in VA Beach. Where I live they would mostly play "The Day that Never Comes" and occasionally "Cyanide".

Now listening to Masters of None Podcast 2.14: "Top 8 1/2 Worst Band Names"

Seems like everyone here likes GnR, Linkin Park, Godsmack, Lacuna Coil, and Megadeth.
I am currently listening to "All Nightmare Long" by Metallica, probably the best song from Death Magnetic.

Sepultura albums to listen to: Beneath the Remains, Arise, Chaos AD, Roots
Those are their best, but their other albums aren't bad.

"Stronger than Hate" by Sepultura (under-rated Brazillian thrash/death/groove metal band)

I'm hopefully gonna get a few albums by them today.

Metallica-Ride the Lightning

Released in 1984
James Hetfield-Vocals/Rhythm Guitar
Kirk Hammett-Lead Guitar
Cliff Burton(RIP)-Bass/Backing Vocals
Lars Ulrich-Drums
Produced by Flemming Rasmussen and Metallica

"Fight Fire With Fire"-Opens with a nice acoustic guitar intro before rocketing into a fast-paced thrashy track. Arguably one of Metallica's hardest tracks of all time, and a definite stand-out track of this album.
"Ride the Lightning"-Not as fast as "Fight", but still an excellent track. A bit more melodic, but still retains a very hard edge to it.
"For Whom the Bell Tolls"-An overrated track in my opinion, still a solid song nonetheless. Slow for thrash standards.
"Fade to Black"-The slowest song on the album, but an excellent slow and brooding song about a serious subject: suicide.
"Trapped Under Ice"-Back to the speedy thrash with this one. One of the weaker songs on this album, not as memorable as its predecessors, but still a good tune.
"Escape"-About the same as "Trapped", but seems more like filler.
"Creeping Death"-Intro sounds a bit similar to "Master of Puppets". Overall, very well done.
"The Call of Ktulu"-Great instrumental.

Overall, Metallica's best album, in my opinion.

The Dark Forest / Instruments
« on: August 14, 2009, 04:02:45 PM »
I'm just wondering if anyone here plays a musical instrument or instruments.
I play guitar, keyboard, & a little harmonica. I also learned recorder in 4th or 5th grade, but I don't remember how to play it. And, I might also learn bass guitar and stylophone, but I'm still iffy on both.
FACT: The most intricate form of music I can read is tab. I really can't read traditional sheet music.

The Dark Forest / How tall are you?

I'm about 5'7'' or 5'8''. Maybe 5'9'', but the last time I got measured was like a year ago.

I'd say the lights in the room would start flashing on and off and when the remote is used, they'd go back to normal.
