The Sandle of Pheidippides
« on: July 07, 2006, 07:41:35 AM »
Episode 1: ?The Sandle of Pheidippides?

*the camera zooms in on an ancient lush jungle, the palms are moving away as an elephant is heard*

*all the palms are gone, showing Olmec*

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple. With your guide? Kirk Fogg!

*Kirk is shown slidding down a zipline & jumping off into the usual area*

Kirk: Thank you everyone. Thank you Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are The rooms are filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The Sandle of Pheidippides.

Kirk: The Sandle of Pheidippides! Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Sandle. Will it be *camera zooms into each team as they cheer & the usual* The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They?re going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec will tell us how they?ll have to do it today.

Olmec: Each team will have 1 rope. There will be a small "island" (platform) in the middle. On go, one player will swing out to the middle of the island. They will pull a hanging chain, which will release a hooked bridge that was attached to the bottom. Than, you'll walk across the bridge to the other side. Than you're partner will swing across & walk across the bridge to ring the gong *Kirk bangs the Silver Snakes? gong*. The first four teams to hit their gong will go on to the next round.

Kirk: Alright, teams are you ready?!

*the teams cheer*

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?!

Olmec: Let?s rock!

Kirk: On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*the first player on each team go swing across*

*Red Jaguars, Purple Parrots, & Silver Snakes make it, while Blue Barracudas does a belly flop into the water*

*they pull the chain & walk across the bridge as Silver falls into the water & Green Monkeys get to the island*

*the second players on Red Jaguars & Purple Parrots do the same thing & bang the gong first & second respectively, while Silver Snakes get across the bridge with the Green Monkeys*

*Blue Barracudas & Orange Iguanas falls into the water*

*Green bangs the gong third while Silver falls on the bridge again*

*all 3 teams make it to the island & get across*

Kirk: Ohh, it?s down to the second player on each team!

*Orange Iguanas fall into the water, while Blue Barracudas & Silver Snakes race across the bridge*

*Blue Barracudas try to jump to the gong, but fall into the water as Silver bangs*

Kirk: That was close! You guys barely made it, but going onto the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes! And the Purple Parrots! Don?t forget about the Green Monkeys! And how about the Red Jaguars? Now Blue Barracudas & Orange Iguanas, you guys just came up a tad short, but you?ll be going home with a prize! *Olmec explains prize*

*the camera changes to the four dry teams on the top of the Steps of Knowledge*

Kirk: As the quest continues, it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about the Sandle of Pheidippides. Bur before we get started, pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec?s Temple.

Olmec: Today, many people participate in the 26.2 mile race we know as the marathon, which was started by the Greek Pheidippides.

General: Come on soldiers, we can?t lose to these Persians!

Pheidippides: Got it sarge!

General: Charge!

*a huge mob is heard running with sword noises*

Olmec: The Persians & Greeks fought ferociously in the Battle of Marathon, but than the Greeks won!

*an applause is heard*

General: We did it! We must get the news out! Pheidippides!

Pheidippides: Another backrub, sarge?

General: No no no! Go run to Athens & announce our victory!

Pheidippides: Got it sarge!

Olmec: And then, Pheidippides ran the 26.2 miles from the town of Marathon to Athens nonstop in his sandles. As he approached the gates to Athens, he sadly collapsed & died. Legend has it that one of his fellow soldiers took one of his sandles & kept it as a family treasure, but it has made it?s way to the Temple! Your job is to find the Sandle of Pheidippides & bring it back here!

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, but can you tell us where the Sandle of Pheidipiddes is?

Olmec: The Sandle of Pheidippides is in the Anaconda?s Sanctuary!

Kirk: OK. Teams: you are standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about today?s legend. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. Go ahead, stomp on it!

*Purple Parrots hit the step*

Kirk: OK, Purple Parrots, since you rang in first, you would be able to answer. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level. If you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level *Kirk runs down there* will be one step closer to Olmec?s Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for the first question.

Olmec: Did the Greeks fight the Persians in: The Battle of Marathon, The Battle of the Brave, or The Battle of Bull Run?

Red Jaguars: The Battle of Marathon!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Red Jaguars move down*

Olmec: Did Pheidippides run from Marathon to: Athens, the Parthenon, or Texas?

Silver Snakes: The Parthenon?

Olmec: That is incorrect!

Purple Parrots: Athens!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Purple Parrots move down*

Olmec: How far did Pheidippides run: 26.2 miles, 262 miles, or 2.62 miles?

Purple Parrots: 26.2 miles!

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Purple Parrots, one more correct answer & you guys move onto the Temple Games.

Olmec: Did Pheidippides run in: His war boots, his sandles, or his Reeboks?

Green Monkeys: His war boots?

Olmec: That is incorrect!

Purple Parrots: His sandles!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Purple Parrots move down to the bottom step*

Kirk: Purple Parrots are the first team to move on. One more team can make it. Green Monkeys & Silver Snakes, you guys still have a chance!

Olmec: The first letter of the Greek alphabet is: Gamma, Delta, or Alpha?

Red Jaguars: Alpha!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Red Jaguars move down a step*

Kirk: Red Jaguars, one more correct answer & you guys move onto the Temple Games against the Purple Parrots.

Olmec: Which of these cities holds a marathon run today: Orlando, Boston, or Anchorage?

Red Jaguars: Boston!

Olmec: That is? correct!

*Red Jaguars move down to the bottom step with the Purple Parrots*

Kirk: Green Monkeys. Silver Snakes, come on down here! You guys gave it a good effort, but came up short, but you won?t be going home empty handed. Here?s what you guys win. *Olmec explains prize*

Kirk: *only Red Jaguars & Purple Parrots are present* These two teams will be going head to head in the Temple Games, to fight to enter Olmec?s Temple, right after this!

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, lets find out a little about our teams. On the Purple Parrots we have Troy, who likes to run & lift weights. His partner is Olympia, who likes to play soccer & shop! On the Red Jaguars, we have Robbie who likes to listen to music. His partner is Rachel, who likes to talk on the phone & hang out with her friends. Now, guys get ready for the first Temple Game, girls get ready for the second. Okay, go get ready for the Temple Games, I?m going to explain what?s gonna happen. Teams are competing in temple games to win: Pendants of Life. *shows two pendants* They?re going to need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games. Olmec, tell us about temple game number one.

Olmec: When Pheidippides was running to Athens, it was heard that some angry Persians were chasing after him! Now, you guys will be chasing each other! There is a square of beams 2 feet above the ground. Each of you guys have a flag on your backs & have a bucket in opposite corners, each with 3 Greek flags. On go, you?ll try to walk across the beams. When you get to your opponent?s bucket, grab one of his flags & complete the square by going back to your bucket & put the flag in. If you reach your opponent, you can pull his flag off & the game is over. After 60 seconds or when someone gets eliminated, whichever person has the most flags, or whoever gets 6 flags first wins.

Kirk: Sounds like a fast game. Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock. On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*Troy & Robbie start going across the beams with Troy having a lead*

*Troy gets back to his bucket first making the score 3-2, while Robbie has a flag in his hand*

*the two keep going at it while Troy gets a lead 5-0, Robbie with a flag*
*Robbie gets the flag in his bucket with 10 seconds left*

*Troy runs across the beams & pulls Robbie?s flag off*

Kirk: That?s it, game over! Let?s count the flags! Robbie has? 1. Troy has? 5! The Purple Parrots win the ? Pendant of Life! Don?t worry, because Red Jaguars can come back in the next Temple Game, worth another ? Pendant. Olmec, tell us about temple game number two.

Olmec: The Greeks & Persians fought ferociously in the Battle of Marathon. Now you two are gonna fight against each other. Each person has a water gun & 8 tiles above them. On go, you?ll shoot the water gun at your opponent?s tiles & try to knock them over. The first person to knock over all 8 tiles, or whoever knocks down the most in 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: OK. Get ready girls! *Rachel & Olympia pick up the water guns* On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*the girls are shooting at each others tiles*

*Olympia quickly knocks two down, while Rachel gets one*

*Olympia gets another while Rachel is still struggling*

*After 45 seconds, both girls have 6 tiles*

*Olympia quickly gets another tile while Rachel gets one too*

*Olympia gets the last tile*

Kirk: Wow, another close one. But Purple Parrots got all 8 tiles first, while Red Jaguars only had 7, so the Purple Parrots get another ? Pendant of Life! That makes Red Jaguars with nothing & Purple Parrots with 1 Pendant. Olmec, tell us about temple game number three, worth another full pendant!

Olmec: The hardest part about war is transportation. Now, you?ll have to transport soldiers into the battlefield! Each person is attached to a cord, attached to a bar, where your partner is on the other side. On go, one person will run on the ramp, propelling them & their partner in a circle. Your partner will grab a soldier doll off the board & run on the ramp to keep the speed. When they are close enough, they?ll throw the soldier into their bucket. If they get it in their opponent?s bucket, it still counts? for them! At the end of 60 seconds, the team with the most soldiers wins!

Kirk: This is for the temple! On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*the players start spinning*

*the Red Jaguars get one in the Purple Parrots? bucket, while the Purple Parrots get it in their bucket*

*Red Jaguars keep missing & finally get one*

*Purple Parrots keep getting a lot in there, making the score 5-1*

*both teams start missing miserably*

*Red Jaguars get 2 more in last second when time runs out*

Kirk: Let?s count ?em up! Purple Parrots got 1-2-3-4-5! Red Jaguars got 1-2-3, but 3 soldiers are not enough! The Purple Parrots are going to the Temple with 2 Pendants of Life!!!!! Robbie & Rachel, you guys gave it your all & good job for that. You?ll be walking home with this! *Olmec explains prize*

Kirk: *only Purple Parrots are present* We're gonna see if the Purple Parrots can retrieve the Sandle of Pheidippides, and we're gonna do it right after this!

*commercial break*

Kirk: Welcome back. Olympia & Troy have proven themselves worthy and have earned themselves the right to enter Olmec?s temple. But before we get started, Olmec, can you give the Purple Parrots any clues about your Temple & how to retrieve the Sandle of Pheidippides?

Olmec: You can start off in the Miner?s Cave. Crawl through the tunnel to make it into the Pit of Anguish. If you can get across, you can head into the Crocodile?s Mouth! Grab the fish from the walls & put them into the crocodile?s mouth & you can go up into the Ranch! Or you can head into the Anaconda?s Sanctuary, where you can grab the Sandle of Pheidippides. Untangle the snake & attach it to the wall & go into the Sacred Safari! Find the key in the elephant?s mouth, but beware of the Temple Guards, disguised as elephants! You can go up, or bust through the wall into the Battlefield! Jump on the trampoline to reach the ladder in the Ninja?s Secret Training Chamber & climb into the Ladder of Doom! Put the correct torch into the torch holder & enter the Shriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine of the Siiiiiiilver Monkey! Assemble the statue & go into the Chamber of the Royal Containers. Dump the containers on the floor & find the key to go down, or head into the Observation Tower! Line up the telescope with the markings on the wall to open the door to cross the Stumps of Dejection! Use the 2 planks to get across the four stumps, or jump back into the Pit of Anguish. Race thorough the Hammered Nails & back to the Temple Gates! The choices are yours & yours alone! You won two pendants into the Temple. Who is going first?

Olympia: I am!

Olmec: Very well, Olympia! When Kirk gives the signal, you?ll race through the gate into the temple and make your way towards the Sandle of Pheidippides. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you?re caught without a pendant, you?ll be taken out of the temple and it will be Troy?s turn to try his luck. If you can reach the artifact, all the doors in the temple will instantly unlock, and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the artifact within three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded. And here?s how! *Olmec explains three prizes*

Kirk: So Olympia, you ready!

Olympia: Ready as I?ll ever be!

Kirk: On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*Olympia races up the stairs & gets to the Hammered Nails with 2:56 left*

*A Temple Guard comes out & Olympia gives him her pendant*

*She grabs the hammer & pounds the first nail & the door opens into the Stumps of Dejection with 2:50 left*

Kirk: The first nail does it!

*Olympia grabs the 2 planks & gets across the stumps with 2:43 left & opens the door to the Observation Tower*

*She races up to the Observation Tower & a Temple Guard grabs her before she can ever touch the telescope with 2:40 left*

*Troy races into the Temple & gets to the Observation Tower*

*He lines up the telescope & goes down into the Ranch with 2:27 left*

*He saddles up the horse & goes into the Chamber of the Royal Containers & immediately hits the actuator to go into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with 2:23 left*

*He gets the monkey assembled pretty quickly & gets into the Ladder of Doom with 2:10 left*

*Troy grabs the 3 rungs & places them on the ladder & climbs down through the Ninja?s Secret Training Chamber*

*He falls into the Battlefield with 2:04*

*Troy is loading the cannon with all the balls in the pit*

*Troy is starting to launch the cannon with 1:49 left*

*the wall breaks down with 1:40*

*Troy gets into the Sacred Safari & puts his hand in the first elephant*

*He gets the key in the second elephant with 1:30 left*

*Troy gets into the Anaconda?s Sanctuary & grabs the sandle with 1:28 left*

*He sprints through the Crocodile?s Mouth & the Pit of Anguish & enters the Miner?s Cave with 1:23 left*

*He crawls through the tunnel & gets down to Olympia & Kirk with 1:20 left*

*Olympia jumps into Troy?s arms & the two hug*

Kirk: They did it! They did it all! They get everything! A very well deserved trip the Turks & Caicos! You guys rocked! See you next time on another great Legends of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!

*Olympia hugs Troy as Troy holds up the sandle to the camera*

(Side Notes: Can someone get the diagram up for me? Also, I know the Temple Run seems very unrealistic, but hey, it's called fan fiction for a reason!)

Yeah. Troy runs a lot & Olympia plays soccer, so they both had speed (& maybe part of Olympia's speed comes from her running around the mall? haha)

Fan Summary:
The Sandle of Pheidippides

Name of Artifact: The Sandle of Pheidippides
Season: 4
Layout: 7
Result: Victory!
Time Remaining: 1:20
Team: Purple Parrots
Pendants Won: 2
Location of Artifact: The Anaconda's Sanctuary
Temple Diagram:
Temple Run Summary:
This was a great episode, & it was better that 2 fast people who run aside from the show achieved victory on an episode about running. On go, Olympia raced up to the Temple & got taken out of the Observation Tower in 20 seconds. She made it through 3 rooms & boy was she fast, the fastest in history. But her teammate, Troy, was even faster, which is hard to believe. Troy raced up like there was no tomorrow to where Olympia was & went through The Ranch, The Room of the Royal Containers, The Shrine of the Silver Monkey, & boy did he assemble that monkey nicely! It was a brutle layout, making the team go through nine rooms before the artifact. Troy grabbed the sandle with 1:28 left. He than went through the Crocodile's Mouth, The Pit of Anguish, & The Miner's Cave & out of the Temple, all in 8 seconds. This was the fastest team victory, & overall victory in the history of the show. Both players showed passion to the show & were great.

Side Notes:

A couple on this episode. Funny how Troy runs & Olympia plays soccer, both running sports. They were teamed in an episode with a Legend about running. Also, Olympia was average 6.67 seconds per room, making her the fastest contestant in history. But when Troy got in, he averaged a 6.15 seconds per room. This was the fastest team, the fastest victory, & the two fastest contestants in history. This is a fan favorite & we can all see why.

Episode Fanfic written by Olmec. Episode Summary format and Temple Diagram in the style of nicklegends.

That was really good... but the guy got the Sandle and got out in 8 SECONDS?!? I thought my run was unrealistic... it was really good, and I can believe most of it, but just maybe slow down your players a tad. :D

Yeah, it's OK, just a little mispelling. Where can we stand on the sandle/sandal debate?

Yeah, Troy got out in 8 seconds, but he only had to go through three rooms. Keep in mind, this guy runs a lot, so he could get through the running ones in a flash (mainly the Crocodile's Mouth, because you have to crawl in the other two).
