My thoughts on teams entering the temple
« on: June 24, 2006, 03:45:19 PM »
It always seemed like in each season the teams always went one way - for example, in the 1st season, they almost always ran straight into the Cave of Size (and most of the time there was a Temple Guard there). In the third season, when the Pit of the Pendulum was introduced, they almost always went up so they could swing and knock over the thing (cant remember what it was called). I didn't like the Pit, kind of, because if you knocked it over and the door to the Tomb of the Headless Kings didn't open, you had to climb up and you were basically screwed.

You do have an interesting point. I don't think I've ever actually noticed it, but it does seem like there were more temple guards in the cave in season one....infact, I can't even recall ever seen a temple guard in the ledges, and for good reason too, you would be crawling through the ledges and come face up to a temple guard, and if you're lucky he might just give you a little kiss, and that's the message that we deliver to kids and expect them not to......never mind........
Crazy, but that's how it goes.

I remember seeing temple guards in the Ledges twice - one time, the kid was climbing through, and then the temple guard GRABBED THE KIDS LEGS SO HE FELL FLAT ON HIS FACE. What the hell?

Perhaps child abuse is why they cancelled Legends.

lol

Yeah.

SEASON 1: Most through the Cave of Size, rarely in the upper room
SEASON 2: The Crypt, I guess, but Ledges weren't that uncommon
SEASON 3: The Crypt or the upper Ledges door, just so they can swing on the rope to knock over the pendulum.

It was always an inconvenience to begin in the Ledges in Season 3 because, not only did it take longer than the Crypt to enter and exit, but also because of the trouble of climbing up the wall if the Tomb door didn't open (which nearly always had a temple guard, anyway).

The contestants did have the option of shoving over the column with their hands, but this was only done twice in the third season.

As far as Season 1 goes, it was advantageous, temple guards aside, to enter the Cave of Scythes/Sighs/Size because it was a much shorter distance to the room than taking the awkward steps to the Gargoyle/Gong room.

In Season 2, it didn't really matter, yet teams usually preferred the Crypt to the Ledges.

Hi nicklegends! I've visited the King's Storeroom many times & I love the site. You put so much hard work into it. Me, like you, have seen all 120 episodes, so we have stuff in common haha. Which 2 episodes did the people push the column?

I have a different view on the whole season 1 point of view. I personally would go up the stairs into the Gargoyle/Three Gongs room, because I think it would be easier running up some stairs, pressing 3 [at the most] buttons, than running into the Wall Climb/Troubled Bridge. In the Cave of Size, you have to climb up these hard to climb ledges & find a door (which people don't find sometimes).

Thanks for your comments! :D One of the episodes is The Dried Apple Half of William Tell. There was another for sure, but I'm afraid I can't remember it.

You have a good point, though, about Season 1 entrances. I just wish the players, on every episode, considered as many options as possible before choosing a certain path.

Yeah, Dried Apple Half, horrible layout. Yeah, they really need to think more. It won't be that easy just to go through 3-5 rooms (besides Mask of Shaka Zulu) straight across. You know how a temple guard is usually in one of the two entrance rooms? Well, about 90% of the time, if the artifact is on the upper floor of the temple, the temple guard is in the upper entrance room, & vise versa, so you should start on the opposite floor & curve around! We should make a topic for temple strats.

I was thinking about that whole Pit of the Pendulum thing and came to the conclusion that if I were on the show, I would have jumped on the column instead of swinging down.  If I got to go down into the Tomb of the Headless Kings, it would have saved me a few seconds.  It would have also saved a few seconds had I had to go up because I would have to waste time trying to swing back across (that was accomplished about twice in the entire 3rd season).

That's a good strategy, I always thought about that, unless the artifact was in The Tomb of the Headless Kings or Jester's Court, then it wouldn't be good to do that

I'm too lazy to quote right now, buti just wanted to say that the column in the pit of the pendulum was pushed over more than twice. It was pushed over in "The Dried Apple Half of William Tell", "The Mystical Spellbook of the Imperial Wizard" (another brutal temple design), "The Marble Armrest of Xerxes" (ANOTHER brutal temple design), and if i remember correctly.... I think it was pushed over in "The Muscle-Shell Armor of Apanupec".... not too sure on that one though.... There might even be others but those are the only ones i can think of off the top of my head.... Notice how they were ALL Green Monkeys. :P

Wow, really? It's been so long since I've seen some of these episodes I can't remember those little tidbits anymore. Thanks for filling me in.
