What Really Saddens Me
« on: September 17, 2021, 10:33:33 PM »
Given how the revival is around the corner, I thought I'd take the time to vent on one thing that's bothersome from the original version.  It's that Karisa ended up winning more prizes than Travis and Elisa despite the fact that they were a zillion times better than her.

Could that be from her teammate clearing out a good path for her? I wonder if “The Enormous Feather of the Mê Linh” would have been a win if David had busted through the Stone Wall and not reached into either tree in the Dark Forest.

I agree that David clearing a nice path was the biggest reason to why Karisa still made it to the feather despite how sucky she was.

I was just wondering, would the Enormous Feather temple run have been rated 1/10 if Karisa hadn’t made it to the King’s Storeroom? Did it surprise you that she couldn’t do any of the following?

A. Go in circles
B. Retreat towards the exit from the Dark Forest
C. Enter the temple without knowing how to hit an actuator
D. Recreate the monster monkey
E. Pass up the feather
F. Drop the feather on the way out

Travis and Elisa are easily the best losing team on the show and quite possibly the best team ever. They literally did everything right in the temple and came up one room short due to a brtual layout. They would've easily won the other King's Storeroom runs (Bent Shaving Pan and Enormous Feather). It does indeed suck that that Karisa got more prizes then they did, but in defense of her team, David was a pretty good contestant and he did deserve that prize at last. The Enormous Feather run would've been a win if David didn't get captured in the Dark Forest.

As much as I hate the Enormous Feathe run, I wouldn't give it a 1/10 even if Karisa didn't make it to the Dark Forest. A 1/10 temple run belongs to horrendously bad runs like Golden Cricket Cage, Blackbeard, Bifocal Monocle, and Snow Cone where the teams in those runs made some glaring mistakes and both players were bad. At least David was pretty decent in this run and saves it from being Bifocal Monocle level bad.  :afro:

TRJ, I'm sure you know which six temple runs I was referencing with those blunders.

Not knowing how to hit an actuator: John Henry's Lost Hammer
Going in circles: Golden Cricket Cage of Khan
Retreating towards the exit from where the frontrunner left off: Keys to the Alhambra
Passing up the artifact: Golden Pepperoni of Catherine de' Medici
Making the monster monkey: Mysterious Manuscript of Mary Shelley
Dropping the artifact on the way out: Broken Trident of Poseidon

Also, do you think it would have been fair if the prizes had only gone to David? From what I've read here on this forum, the Enormous Feather run would have been if Purple Parrots broke the tie or if David had a smarter and faster female teammate. Is Karisa not only guilty for her episode's temple run not being a win but also for her team's poor pre-Temple Run performance score?

In my scoring format, David & Karisa were the only team to get to the artifact and rank behind a team that didn’t get to the artifact (this team was actually Tim & Retina from the Gordian Knot episode while tying in points with the Thornwood Gavel episode). It wasn’t just their pre temple score was tied for the worst of any team to get there (Lucky Pig & Treasure Map). They only won the individual games as well. The Purple Parrots were clearly better than them and probably would’ve won this run. That’s all I need to say.

Also, is it safe to say that the following episodes would have had the temple team's Temple Game opponents do better in the Temple Run?

John Henry's Lost Hammer (Orange Iguanas)
The Keys to the Alhambra (Silver Snakes)
The Treasure Map of Jean Lafitte (Red Jaguars)
The Lost Lion Tail of Little John (Silver Snakes)

Even though I'm not fan of the Enormous Feather run, both Karisa and David deserve to get the same amount of prizes. After all, it was a team effort that allowed them to make it to the temple. Karisa did suck in the temple, but she did fine pre-temple rounds. She even won her individual temple game. The Purple Parrots might've done better with Karisa and David since the layout was pretty favorable. But we don't really know how competent either player were.

Also, is it safe to say that the following episodes would have had the temple team's Temple Game opponents do better in the Temple Run?

I agree that the losing temple teams should've gone to the temple in those episodes except for Lost Hammer. As bad as Kim was in the temple, they were a pretty strong team pre-temple rounds including winning 2 Pendants. And Billy did pretty good with his short time in the temple. Although to this day I never understood why Kim was so confused by an actuator. Even John and Tia knew how to press one.  :afro:

Hey TRJ and others, I had an idea: Maybe we can determine which temple teams did so poorly that reaching the artifact's room wasn't feasible for them, mainly those in the bottom five Temple Runs. You know which five those are, right? Hint: Two RJ, two SS and one OI.

I was just wondering, were all of the favorable contestants in the original Legends of the Hidden Temple skinny legends? It’s said in the Temple Run review for "The Lucky Pot-Bellied Pig of Amelia Earhart" that having not been thin was the reason Kristin had trouble climbing to the Observatory.

I don't think Kristen's weight had anything to do with her performance. She just wasn't really an athletic person. The talent pool in Season 1 was pretty bad too and the producers pretty much allowed any contestant that signed up for the show to compete. That's why you see moat rejects from earlier episodes appear again on the last episode of each production day in Season 1. Kristen and Jim were even moat rejects from the Geronimo episode. I feel that most of the comments about Kristen's weight are supposed to be tongue-in-cheek comments and not taken seriously. Monica from Bifocal Monocle was skinny, but she struggled immensely in climbing the wall in the Pit of the Pendulum. Also, Garrett from Mata Hari is another contestant that received comments about his weight as welll. But he did a pretty good job in the temple except the Holes of Python (which caused a lot of contestants trouble).
