Discarded Seal temple run (alternative route)

I have watched the discarded seal run, and in the Dark Forest, the frontrunner couldn't find the key. I thought that there always was a key in one of the trees. Also in the first tree, it sorta looks like he just put his hand in halfway for about 1 sec. before he tried the other tree.

Is it possible that he might have been able to go up from the dark forest?

I dunno, SOATG! I just reviewed the tape, and it looked like he stuck both arms the same distance into the trees. It just may have been that they (the temple run designers) just WANTED the run to happen the way it did.

But I guess that we'll just never know the answer to your question.
