The Heart Room / Re: Ways to Improve Losing Temple Runs

I love the list you posted, TSM. I agree with everything you said in your post too. For temple runs like Lost Lion Tail, Golden Cricket Cage, and Xerxes those temple teams were so bad that they were doomed to fail no matter how much you try to correct them. In those episodes, the losing temple team should've gone to the temple.

Word on the Nathan Hale suggestion. I definitely think the Silver Snakes got screwed in the "Attack Philadelphia" game. No where in the rules did it mention that the players had to have to word in exact orientation. Although Christina still was a big failure for not finding the most obvious half-pendant that both Kirk and James pointed out. I think James should've gone to the temple second though. He would've found the half-pendant AND was faster than Christina. Even if Christina found the half-pendant, they would've still lost due to her being so slow.

I agree that Lucky Pig would've been a solo run if the team started in the Cave of Sighs and took Kristen's exact path. This layout was pretty long, but a competent player should've been able to grab the artifact. After all, Kristen came up one room short despite being slow and clueless. Scott should've gone in first and started in the Cave of Sighs for a solo run.

Here are a few more:

Gordian Knot - Send Retina into the temple first and have her get removed in the Tomb of the Ancient Kings. She really wasn't a bad player aside from taking the Well elevator. If she went into the temple first, she should've been removed with about 2 minutes left. Tim was definitely faster than Retina and hopefully he tries to take the Shrine shortcut.

Joan of Arc - Same strategy as Gordian Knot. Send Mandy into the Room of Three Gargoyles and have her removed in the Room of Harmonic Convergence. Speedy Eddy would follow-up on her path and maybe grab the artifact.

Harriet Tubman - Send Ryann into the temple first. She could actually start in the Crypt if she wanted to and get removed early in the temple. And Chris would've hopefully found the half-pendant and score a win. This didn't look like a hard temple layout considering the Dark Forest door was already open for them. The other solution would be for Ryann to actually follow her partner's path.  :afro:

Egyptian King - Have Josh enter into the temple first and have him take the King's Storeroom from the Pit. Josh probably wouldn't have dropped his Pendant of Life AND would've completed his rooms faster. After getting removed in the Room of the Ancient Warriors. Kerry should have enough time to grab the artifact and possibly win.

Missing Weather Maps is an embarrassing episode that brings shame to the Red Jaguars.  :( Despite having a pretty good pre-temple performance, including sweeping the temple games, the Red Jaguars lay an egg in the temple. Well, more like Kim lays an egg in the temple. Nick was removed 2+ minutes in the King's Storeroom and all Kim had to do was complete the King's Storeroom and Shrine objective before reaching the Dark Forest. But she does everything in her power to screw the run over including running past the Dark Forest path before the end of the run. This could've been an easy Dark Forest win if Kim wasn't a lost cause. Long story short, no contestant named Kim should ever get close to the temple.

For Anne Bonny, I would have Ron go into the temple first and get removed early in the Throne Room or Fallen Columns. And Fred would follow-up as a second runner and hopefully take the Troubled Bridge out of the temple. This was a very easy layout because Ron grabbed the artifact with 53 seconds despite being slow and clueless.

For Lost Lariat, I would probably have Colleen wait a couple of extra seconds after completing the Observatory objective so she could take the Treasure Room shortcut. If she went straight into the Treasure Room, it would've been a solo run and maybe have a chance to beat Shaka Zulu's time?

It's amazing that neither Jason or Kimberly won in the Icarus and Poseidon runs. They were both doing a pretty okay job before reaching their artifacts. Both contestants reached their artifacts with plenty of time, but both screwed around and lost near the entrance room of the temple.

I'm not sure sending Karisa into the temple first for the Enormous Feather run would change the success of it. She was way too slow and stupid. I can't imagine her trying to complete the bottom floor rooms as a frontrunner.  Fortunately, David was fast but I don't think Karisa would've left him enough time. The only way I could see this run being successful is David avoiding the temple spirit in the Dark Forest similar to Joel in the Enormous Iron Nose Ring run. This team was doom from the start thanks to Karisa.

I agree with your other suggestions.  ;)

Since I watched this temple run recently, I would switch the player order in "Lost Hammer". This temple run would've had a chance at a solo chance if the team started in the Room of Three Gargoyles and entered the Throne Room from the Pit. I would send Nick into the temple first and have him start in the Gargoyle Room and enter the Throne Room from Wall Climb for a solo shot at a temple win. I know I use to give Nick crap in the past for wasting time in the temple, but after rewatching this run he did a pretty good job with what little time Kim left him in the temple. Sure he wasted time trying to climb into the Golden Idols, but it wasn't a bad idea for him to try a short cut. And he still managed to finish 2 rooms away from the artifact. Long story short, keep Kim away from the temple in this episode.

Just some comments about the recent rankings:

Lucky Medallion: I'm glad to see Ty and Jennifer rank high. They were one of my favorite Orange Iguanas team on the show. The moat in this episode was very long though compared to the other episodes on this day, but they still crossed first. They did struggle a little at the SOK though and lost their team game. If they did better in these rounds, they might end up being the highest ranking Orange Iguanas team.

Emiliano Zapata: Another team that was strong all day. No complaints from me about this ranking. They probably would've scored higher if Olivia-Emma found the half-pendant.

Electrified Key: I'm surprised to see Peter and Michelle rank this low, but then I remembered they scraped by the earlier rounds. Kind of sad that the Green Monkeys almost outranked them despite the fact they had some epic fails in this episode. Would've ranked better if Peter didn't take a direct path. -_-

Annie Taylor: So happy to see this team rank high! I thought they would rank lower since they had some weak moments pre-temple run like winning the team game only. But they had a strong SOK to make-up for it.

Missing Eye: I don't really hold the tripe capture against Michael and Emily. The half-pendant was no where in sight and they put up a great effort. I know this has no bearing on their ranking, but I this is probably the only forgivabe S3 triple capture.

Nose Ring: Another ranking that is not that surprising. Joel was a absolute beast in this episode! He pretty much carried this team through the episode. The SOK performance does sort of drag them down, but overall a solid team.

Ivory Elephant: I thought Brad and Monica would rank higher due to sweeping the temple games, but I guess their earlier rounds were average. Too many mistakes in the temple run as well, but that layout was pretty long as well.

Overall, I agree with your rankings. ;)

Bumping this very old topic, but one run that was never mentioned was the Golden Chains run. During this run, BOTH the Wheel Room and Troubled Bridge paths opened. When Jennifer first entered the Cave of Sighs, she tried the wrong door to enter the Wheel Room. She tried to door that blocked by the Wheel instead of the door that had the ladder. When Justin later completes the Room of Harmonic Convergence, you can see the Wheel Room door open. If Jennifer used the right door and stood low the entire time, this would've been a solo win.

Not surprised to see the "Dr. Livingstone" team rank high. They were pretty dominant before the temple run. Winning the temple run also helps their score as well. Too bad it's still the most forgettable win in my books.  :afro:

The "Blackfeet Chief" team sucked in the moat, but they really turned it around in the later rounds. Although they were very close to elimination. The temple run honestly could've been the first Purple Parrot win. Leah moved WAY too slow in the temple. Brandon was slightly faster, but he could've picked up the pace a little bit too. He did have the fastest Silver Monkey assemblies though. Should've been a win if both players moved faster.

"Mush Pot Hat" was the first episode of the infamous shaky log day. The moat round in this episode was no where as long as the other 3 episodes. Chris and Angela are one of the few Orange Iguanas teams I like. The temple games round was very close and almost a 2-2 tie score. The temple run was exciting. It was pretty cheap that they were forced to take the slow Mine Shaft elevator. Not much they could've done to increase their chances at winning.

Great rankings as always!  ;) I look forward to your Stone Head rankings since Heather and Tony were a strong team pre-temple rounds.

Nathan Hale team probably would've ranked higher if the producers didn't take the piece away in the Attack Philadelphia game. No where in the rules did it mention that the spelling had to be in a particular orientation. The Silver Snakes would've gone to temple with 2 Pendants if that didnt happen. Although they probably would've lost the temple run because Christina moved pretty slow.

The Red Jaguars in Anne Bonny ranked higher than I thought. Then again, Fred was a very strong contestant in this episode. She was the quickest across the moat, answered all questions in SOK, and won her temple game. She was also fast in her short-lived temple appearance. It was Ron that sucked in this episode. Too bad Ron blew the temple run at the very end or else it would've been a 4/4 winning day.

Pretty good ranking for the Silver Snakes in Snake Bracelet. They were definitely a consistently good team throughout their episode. They should've definitely finished with more time in the temple run though. Robert was blazing fast, but Tracy moved a little slow. Imagine if the order was reversed in the temple? They would've probably beaten Benzibab's team record. Of course, they wouldn't have increased their score in your rankings though. But it would've been pretty neat to see.   :mrsilver:

Today I lost my best dog friend in the entire world for the last 15 1/2 years. To say I’m heartbroken is an understatement. She was absolutely the love of my life for all those years, and I don’t know what I’m going to do without her. I love you so much, Chloe, and I’ll miss you!

Sorry to hear that, TSM. :( I know the exact feeling about losing a pet you grew up with. I lost my cat back in 2014 due to liver disease. I had him for 15 years and still get sad thinking about him being gone. Especially since he died while having a seizure. My family eventually got a new cat who helped ease the pain somewhat. But he will never replace my original cat.

Don't worry, I think your ranking system is fine. ;) I understand you're trying to go for a more objective approach as opposed to an subjective approach. I know we've had our own ranking systems in the past, but those ones were more personal. I like how you're trying to rank the teams on a more objective approach. I think you're doing a good job so far and I will try to go back and review all your recent rankings. ;)

I think your rankings have been pretty accurate so far too. Even though teams like Buddha and        had easy layouts, they were still very strong prior to temple runs. So their high rankings are pretty justifiable. On the other hand, the Silver Saddle Horn and Mata Hari teams ranked low, which is pretty accurate based on my memory of those episodes.

Almost done with Season 1! It will be interesting to see how low Ron ranks in the Anne Bonny episode.  :afro:

I'm not surprised to see the       kids rank high. They were very dominant before the temple run - first in moat, first in SOK, and won 2 Pendants in temple games. The temple run was a different story though. Even if the layout was easy, they should've finished with more than 29 seconds on the clock. Erica moved fast, but Jeremy was slow and clueless. I'm definitely surprised to see them rank higher than the Lawrence of Arabia team. Based on your rankings, it seems Jeremy and Erica ranked better in the SOK. But I think the temple run is a different story. I would personally give David and Candace a higher temple score since they faced a much tougher layout and David completed his rooms at an impressive rate.

Good rankings so far though. It's been a while since I watched Legends related material, so it's nice to see some discussion about the episodes.  :mrred:

If he is still here, Happy Birthday TRJ! Enjoy your annual gift of the Keys of Alhambra. :mrred: :jaguars2:

Thanks, GM1!  :mrred: But you can keep those dirty Keys to yourself. Maybe I can lock you in the Dungeon with them and Lisa.  :afro:
