Season 4, Layout 1, Episode 1 - The Tall Hat of Abraham Lincoln

*The camera traverses quickly through several plants to simulate a thick rainforest. It eventually makes its way to a large stone head. Its eyes light up and it begins to speak.*

OLMEC: Legends of the Hidden Temple!

*The camera zooms along the first and up to second floor of the temple*

OLMEC: With your guide, Kirk Fogg...

*Camera zips down the Pharaoh's Secret Passage, and busts through the Quicksand Bog wall*

OLMEC: ...and here he is now.

*Kirk arrives from off camera in a Jeep that swerves to a stop before The Steps of Knowledge*

KIRK: Thank you very much. Thank you. Nice to see you. Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we gonna hear about today?

OLMEC: The Legend of the Tall Hat of Abraham Lincoln

KIRK: Oh, the Tall Hat of Abraham Lincoln. Well, one of our six teams will have a chance to retrieve the Tall Hat. Will it be... the Red Jaguars... or the Blue Barracudas... maybe the Green Monkeys... how about the Orange Iguanas... perhaps the Purple Parrots... or even the Silver Snakes. There gonna have to pass some tough physical and mental tests, and in the end only one team will have the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But, first they must cross the moat and Olmec will tell us how they'll have to do it today.

ROUND 1: THE MOAT

OLMEC: Before you lie several ancient vines which have fallen across the Moat. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will grab on to a rope without touching the water and swing over to the next vine. Then grab the second vine, and swing on it and so on. When you reach the other side, that will be your partner's signal to do the same. If you fall into the water or if you miss a vine, you must go back and begin again. When both players are on the other side, run over and hit the gong. *Kirk hits a gong for clarification* The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round.

KIRK: Alright. Teams, are you ready? *Players cheer in excitement*
Olmec, are you ready?

OLMEC: LET'S GET SWINGIN'!!!

KIRK: On you mark... get set... GO!!!

Results:
1st: Silver Snakes
2nd: Purple Parrots
3rd: Green Monkeys
4th: Orange Iguanas

KIRK: We've got our four teams going on to the Steps of Knowledge. They are: the Silver Snakes... the Purple Parrots... the Green Monkkeys... and the Orange Iguanas. Red Jaguars and Blue Barracudas gave it a great effort, too. We've got a nice gift for them, and here's what it is...

ROUND 2: STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE

KIRK: As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Tall Hat of Abraham Lincoln. But pay attention teams, 'cause your knowledge of the legend can and will bring you a step closer to the temple.

OLMEC: *tells the story of the legend*

KIRK: Thanks, Olmec. So tell us: Where is the Tall Hat?

OLMEC: The Tall Hat of Abraham Lincoln can be found in the King's Storeroom.

KIRK: Teams, you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec's gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level. But, if you're wrong or run out of time, I'm gonna give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we're now ready for your first question.

[Questions & Answers]

ROUND 3: TEMPLE GAMES

*Pendant Splits*

KIRK: Welcome back to Legends. Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But, before we get started, let's take time to find out about our team players here. On the Orange Iguanas, we have Brian. He likes basketball and he wants to be a doctor when he gets older. And here we have Erin. She enjoys softball and she wants to be a dentist someday. Let's hear it for the Orange Iguanas. And over on the Purple Parrots we have Chris. He plays football and he wants to become a construction worker. And here we have Karen. She loves gymnastics and she wants to be a lawyer. Let's hear it for the Purple Parrots. Why don't you get ready for the Temple Games and I'll tell you what's gonna happen here. In the Temple Games, teams are gonna be competing to win: Pendants of Life. The winning team is gonna need those pendants to protect themselves from those dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple. There are three Temple Games and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game Number 1.

TEMPLE GAME 1

OLMEC: Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed by John Wilks Booth. Now, you will get the chance to avenge him. Before you stand four John Wilks Booth statues. When Kirk gives the signal, you'll load a cannonball into the slingshot and launch it at the statues, knocking them over. The first player to knock down all four statues or the player who's further along at the end of 60 seconds wins.

KIRK: OK, Let's put 60 seconds up on the clock. *Clock is set for 60 seconds* On your mark... Get set... GO!

Results: Purple Parrots (3-2)

KIRK: Okay, let's check it out. The Purple Parrots got 3 and the Orange Iguanas got 2. So, that gives the Purple Parrots the Half-Pendant of life. Nice job. Orange Iguanas can catch up in this next game. It's also worth a Half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game Number 2.

TEMPLE GAME 2

OLMEC: Abraham Lincoln's tall hat wasn't the only one he had. In fact, he had quite a collection. Above you are three of Abraham Lincoln's hats, which he wants you to take down for him. When Kirk gives the signal, climb up to the top of the shelf, grab a hat, put it on your head, drop down, and place it on the table for Abraham Lincoln. The first player to bring down all 3 hats or the player who brings the most hats down at the end of 60 seconds wins.

KIRK: Those are some really tall shelves. Well, why don't we put 60 seconds on the clock? *Clock is set for 60 seconds* On your mark... Get set... GO!

Result: Orange Iguanas (1-3) (0:04 remaining)

KIRK: That's it. Great job, teams. Let's see: the Orange Iguanas managed to get all three hats down first, which gives them the Half-Pendant of Life. It's now all tied up. Each team has a Half-Pendant. We go to our third, and final, game. It's worth a Full Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game Number 3.

TEMPLE GAME 3

OLMEC: During the Civil War the Union Army endured heavy battles in various locations throughout the country. Behind you represent four of those battles. Fort Sumter... Lexington? Bull Run... and Gettysburg. When Kirk gives the signal, you'll load a ball into the sling shot and shoot it to your partner, who will then catch the ball and place it on your battle ground. Then, move on to the next one. Each catch you make represents one battle won for the union. The first team to win all four battles, or the team with the most battles won in the end of 60 seconds wins

KIRK: This is for the Temple. Let's put 60 seconds on the clock. *Clock is set for 60 seconds* On your mark... Get set... GO!

Results: Purple Parrots (3-2)

KIRK: Time's up. Let's check it out. The Purple Parrots broke through 3 cities and the Orange Iguanas only broke through 2. So, that gives the Purple Parrots the Full Pendant of life. That gives the Purple Parrots have One and a Half Pendants. The Orange Iguanas have a Half Pendant. The Purple Parrots are going to the Temple. Great job. Orange Iguanas gave it a gallant effort too. They're not gonna go away empty-handed. We have a nice gift for them, and here's what it is.

[3 Popular DVDs]

KIRK: We're gonna see if the Purple Parrots can make it through Olmec's Temple, and retrieve the Tall Hat of Abraham Lincoln. And we're gonna see it right after this.

FINAL ROUND: OLMEC'S TEMPLE

*Pendant Shatters*

KIRK: Welcome back to Legends. Chris and Karen have proven themselves worthy, and have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But first, Olmec's gonna give them some information that'll help them retrieve the Tall Hat of Abraham Lincoln.

OLMEC: You could start by running up the stairs into the Crypt. Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass down the stairway, and across the Bridge of Fate. Next, you could choose to head up into the Eternal Light Room. Hit each light switches in the correct order, and that'll lead you into the Chamber of the Sacred Markers. Match the symbols on the right to the rules on the left, and pass into the King's Storeroom. Smash the clay pots to find the key, that'll allow you to enter the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue there and you may be headed for the Room of Mystic Keys. Find the 2 keys in the holes and place them in their correct key holes to open the door to the Phraraoh's Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel into the Quicksand Bog, where you could smash through to the Dark Forest. But beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees. Find the key in the trees, and you will enter the Labyrinth of Torment. Find the correct door switch hidden somewhere in the room, and you will gain entry to the Tomb of the Headless Kings. Pull the vines to release their bones, and pass the missing skull to its proper king. Then, race through the Vine Jungle, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate The choices are yours and yours alone. You won One and a Half Pendants in the Temple Games. Who's going first?

KAREN: I am!

OLMEC: Very well, Karen! When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates, into the Temple, and make your way toward the Tall Hat. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards, assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on. But, if you're caught without a pendant, you will be taken out of the Temple, and it will be Chris's turn to enter and try his luck. Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant. If you can find it, and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life. If you can reach the Tall Hat, all of the doors in the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the Tall Hat of Abraham Lincoln in three minutes and you will both be handsomely rewarded, and here's how:

DEE BAKER: [iPod Video (30 GB), XBOX 360 w/ 3 Popular Games, Honolulu, Hawaii at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Beach Resort & Spa]
KIRK: Okay let's see if we can get them to Honolulu. Let's get them into position. Olmec, lower your gate, please.

OLMEC: *lowers gate*

KIRK: Let's put three minutes on the clock. *Clock gets set for 3:00*. On your mark... Get set... GO!!!

Name of Artifact: The Tall Hat of Abraham Lincoln
Season: 4
Layout: 1
Result: 3 Guards
Time Remaining: 0:19
Team: Purple Parrots
Pendants Won: 1.5
Location of Artifact: The King's Storeroom

This run ended rather abruptly. The forerunner ran at a descent speed along the bottom floor of the Temple. Everything seemed fine until she got to the Dark Forest, where she was caught by a Temple Spirit. She found the key, but the Shrine door wouldn't open. So she broke through the wall, where a second Temple Guard was hiding. Her partner ran in with over a minute to spare. He made it to the Bog in a relatively quick fashion. The door to the Shrine opened but was caught by a third Temple Guard, ending their run with just under 20 seconds left. He probably would have noticed the other half pendant in the Labyrinth of Torment if the edges of the room weren't so dark. A rather disappointing run, not from contestant performance, but from Temple Guard locations.

KIRK: Oh... Temple Guard. Oh they just missed the other Half Pendant. It was in the Labyrinth of Torment. But they did a great job. They get the Video iPod. We gotta get outta here. We'll see you again next time for another great Legend of... the Hidden Temple. Buh-bye.

OLMEC: HMMM.
