Avoiding Temple guards?
« on: June 26, 2006, 01:43:30 PM »
In two rooms: The dark forrest and The room of the ancient warriors, there have been situations where a runner does not have to encounter a temple guard to pass on to the next room, so with that in mind, could a team in fact avoid a temple guard?
Crazy, but that's how it goes.

Well, there was the girl in that season one episode who went through The Mine Shaft into the Tombs of Ancient Kings, only to have the Shaft's guard get her there, so I guess you could say that someone avoided a Guard, at least in that particular room, even if it was only for a few seconds.

Yeah, but the Pendant of Kamehameha was just awkward for the Dungeon Temple Guard.

Well, nicklegends, in his notes for The Enormous Iron Nose Ring of Babe the Ox, one of the trees were moving in The Dark Forest, & Joel evaded that Temple Guard, since he made it out still with his pendant.

There was a dodging of sorts in The Iron Nose Ring of Babe the Ox, where a tree should have caught Joel as he raced through the room. If it would have been any other contestant intending to break through the wall, the guard would have caught him or her for sure.

There was also that episode where the contestant dove head-first under the limbs of the tree, just in case. I wonder if that would have counted as a dodge should there have been a temple guard in the trees he evaded?

No, I'm saying you could totally avoid being captured in either of the above listed rooms.

If the wall wouldn't break, his neck would. Of course, the wall is made up of foam bricks, so it couldn't ever be that bad.

It was not possible to avoid guards in the Room of the Ancient Warriors.  When a guard was there, he would always be behind the suit of armor that opened the door.  If this was not the case, theoretically, it could have happened.  In the Dark Forest, yes it was possible and did happen once (as previously mentioned.  However, it would depend on the production staff's readiness with the robotics (for the arms).  There were times where the arms moved long before grabbing somebody.

Well Irish (The Bent Shaving Pan of Jedediah Smith) almost avoided the Temple Guard. She tried to quickly run out of the armor, like she almost knew there would be a Temple Guard there, but he still got her.

Actually, according to a recent interview from http://legendsofthehiddentemple.piczo.com (The Shrine of the Silver Monkey), there was actually a crewsman sealed in the tree. I thought it was robotics too before I read the interview.

Ouch, having to stay sealed in that tree must have stunk big time.  That guy had to have spent hours in there on taping days.  I could understand based on that how it would smell like ''3 year old B.O.,'' as was stated in said interview.  This also sounds a little like a cost cutting program, in order to avoid using expensive robotics.

I always thought a crewmember just pulled a string to control the arms.

Well, it just plain wouldn't make sense for the trees to be robotic.... first of all, sometimes you can see through the tree hole when no one is in there. When there's a temple spirit, you can not see through. Also, sometimes you can tell that they don't put their arms all the way in and the tree limbs bend because the crew memebers's hands don't reach all the way to the end of the limb.
