Time for a new episode review, this time featuring Ron and Katherine from Anne Bonny. :mrred: Despite the fails that this episode had in the moat and temple run, it still finished with a pretty good score. Of course, if Fred and Ron won in the temple, this would've actually been a decent episode and would've ended S1L9 with all wins. :? Well, here is Anne Bonny.  :mrred:

THE TREASURE OF ANNE BONNY

MOAT: 3/10

The moat challenge that this episode used was the chain of floating rings. In front of the six teams were a chain of floating rings, an they had to crawl across the rings to reach the other side. Both players must cross the same way and once they are both across, then they could hit their gongs. The first four teams that cross this moat successfully will get a chance to move onto the Steps of Knowledge. If you pay attention to the Red Jaguars in this moat, you will notice that Ron cheats when he crosses the moat. Instead of crawling across the floating rings, he just runs along the side of them and doesn't even bother crossing the right way. How did the spotters miss that anyways? He should've been disqualified and forced to cross the correct way again! As a result of his cheating, this moat receives a heavy hit on its overall score. I was going to give this moat the lowest score possible, but since the moat was actually quick and the teams crossed with little problem, it saved this moat from getting a lowly 1.

LEGEND: 7.5/10

One of the fiercest Pirates to sail the seven seas was Anne Bonny. When she was a teenager, she dressed up as a man and joined the infamous Pirate gang called the "Calico Jack". Even though she was a woman, she fought, shot, and dueled like all of Jack's men. One day, they attack a merchant ship bound towards Boston. Anne was the first aboard to battle. While fighting a young man, she finally met her first match. When the pirates won, Anne talked to the young prisoner who turned out to be a woman pirate too, named Mary Reid. Mary and Anne became good friends and a fearless pirate team. In 1700, they were attacked by a British naval ship. Anne and Mary combined their treasure into a Treasure Chest and threw it overboard before being captured. The Treasure of Anne Bonny eventually made its way to Olmec's Temple. The legend was pretty a pretty good pirate story, which was featured a lot on the show. I like how the producers chose to tell a story about a female pirate. It would've been nice to hear more about Anne Bonny life as a pirate rather than hear about how she made a butt buddy with an enemy pirate. I can't complain about this legend though because it didn't have any weak moments or bad voice acting in it.

STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE: 7/10

Most of the questions asked during this Steps of Knowledge round involved the legend and the lore about pirates. There was one question thrown out because the Purple Parrots answered it incorrectly and no one else attempted to answer it. The two losing teams (Purple and Blue) both got a couple of questions correct respectively. The one highlight of this round is the Green Monkeys girls enthusiasm as she reaches the last step. She was very loud and excited. :P Eventually, the Green Monkeys were the first team to make it to the bottom along with the Red Jaguars.

TEMPLE GAMES: 7/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

The temple games featured some great competition, and I especially liked the temple game interviews portion of the game. Like Katherine going by the name "Fred" with the reasoning "because I'm weird." And Joanna of the Green Monkeys "argumentative" interview with Kirk on why she wants to be a lawyer. But, on to the temple games. In the first game, Ron and Nate had to grab a piece a treasure from the bottom of the shaft, climb up, and put it on top of the shaft. Nate of the Green Monkeys won this game with a score of 4-3. Similar to Gabby's temple game in "Golden Ship", both players struggled to find other pieces of treasure to pick up. In the second game, Katherine and Joanna had to climb up a ramp, and pull a bucket of water on top. All while the slide down while having a mop attached to them. Despite both pulling down two buckets a piece, Katherine ended up winning this game because she was further along than Joanna. It was now tied a half pendant a piece going into the final game. In the third game, the teams had to climb out on a soapy ramp, and grab treasure from their partners heads. The Red Jaguars won this game, giving them the full pendant, and earned themselves a trip to the temple with 1.5 pendants!  :mrred:

TEMPLE RUN: 5/10

Ron and Katherine had a chance to end Season 1 with a bang. Not only were they did last episode of Season 1, but they were also featured in a production day with three other wins. It didn't happen in the end thanks to Ron. Fred was a very fast contestant and started off in the Room of the Royal Gongs. She met a temple guard unfortunately and was forced down into the Cave of Sighs. After swiftly moving across the bottom floor, she is removed from the temple with 2:25 on the clock. Ron was a slow and clueless second runner. He moved like a slug through most of the temple rooms. After making it to where Fred was removed, he actually finds the half-pendant because he would need it in the Room of Fallen Columns. At this point, Ron was taking too long to complete some of the rooms and you can tell Fred was getting impatient with him. In the Treasure of the Golden Orbs, he fails to actually complete the room objective. Instead, we get a poor edit to Fred and when the camera pans back to Ron, he is now in the Shrine. I wonder what happened in that room? After he slowly completes the Silver Monkey, Ron grabs the Treasure Chest with 52 seconds left. That should be more than enough time to bring out the artifact, right? Not in Ron's case. He fails to notice the Troubled Bridge and takes the central shaft out of the temple instead. Plus, he moves so slow anyways when exiting. His time ends in the Wheel Room as he is climbing the exit to the Cave of Sighs. This temple run should've been an easy win if Ron didn't enter the temple as a second runner. This team would've done much better with Fred going in second. The temple run is hard itself due to slow Ron moves. If there was one thing I liked about this temple run, it was Fred cheering on Ron. No Season 1 contestant would ever root for their partner, so it was nice to have a vocal and supportive player for once. Other than that, this temple run really should've been a win. Had this been a win, not only would all of S1L9 been a win, but it would've been five temple runs in a row where a team won. The other non S1L9 win being "      ." After time was called, you could tell Katherine was pissed at Ron for blowing the temple run the way that he did.

FINAL VERDICT: 5.9/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

Overall, Anne Bonny was a pretty lackluster episode. The legend was interesting, and the temple games were exciting, but everything else about this episode was lacking. From Ron's cheating in the moat, to blowing his whole load in the temple run, it makes this episode both annoying and cringe worthy to watch. The temple run would've been A LOT more successful if Katherine had gone in second and Ron had gone in first. Either way, this episode wasn't ALL bad, for the reasons I stated above. And I still recommend this episode to anyone.

My thoughts:
Anne Bonny was an a slightly above average episode with mixed rounds. Some of the rounds ranked pretty high, but the temple run and moat drag this episode's score down. You can blame Ron for all of that too. He cheated in the moat and that hurt this rounds score a lot because of the fact that he was allowed to get away with that. How did the producers not catch that? The legend was decent and I like how they talked about a female pirate. The Steps of Knowledge and temple game games were exciting too due to Fred and Joanna. And Fred's temple game interview is a classic too. You know she was a popular person in real life.  :mrred: The temple run is pretty bad though. I almost want to compare this run to "Enormous Feather". Both frontrunners move fast and leave a lot of times for their partners and both second runners are clueless and slow. Ron really should've won after grabbing the Treasure with 53 seconds left. Of course, he moved slow AND took the worst way out. And Tara only had 23 seconds left after she grabbed her artifact, but she still finishes in the same place as Ron. Ron should've won with all of that time. If the Red Jaguars won, that would've made S1L9 with all wins. Of course, this win probably wouldn't have been that great anyways since it was easy like Snake Bracelet and Davy Crockett. But still, this episode would've ranked much better if Ron wasn't a slowpoke and cheater. Overall though, this episode is very memorable to me as I remember watching it when I was little. Back then, I use to find this temple run very exciting. Now, it just pisses me off due to Ron.

So after reviewing like 4 S1 episodes straight, I am ready for a new season now. :P It looks like our next episode is Missing Eye. This episode is pretty exciting and had some good rounds like the Steps of Knowledge and creative temple games. And the temple run is memorable for the Silver Snakes being shafted. :? I expect this episode to finish with a strong score. And I have pictures ready for Missing Eye too.  :mrsilver:

I expect the Steps of Knowledge portion of "Missing Eye" to rank low, like with a 4/10 or something. I have a very hard time taking anyone seriously who gives "Uh, a scaffolding?" as an answer. That might bring the average down, but the rest of the rounds should rank fine. Missing Eye was a good episode, but I don't think it's gonna finish THAT strong. I honestly don't think it will rank any higher than low 6 range. Unless other rounds really rank high. And yeah, I'm also glad we're done with almost all of the Season 1 episodes.

EDIT: Just checked the OP, and we still have Gordian Knot left to do. And expect a slew of Season 3 episodes coming up soon too.

We also still have Joan of Arc to complete too for Season 1. That episode is like Gordian Knot's twin sister. :P

And what do you guys think would've happened if Ron got caught cheating in the moat? I say that the producers would've sent him back and make him start over. And then the Red Jaguars might've not made it to the Steps of Knowledge. Either that or they would've been disqualified like the Green Monkeys in Lost Hammer? But if that happened, then they would not have gotten a second chance. Poor Fred, she got paired up with such a clueless partner. Her and Scott from Amelia Earhart should've threw their partners into a bottomless pit and became part of the same team. :P

But yeah, Missing Eye should be interesting to rank. Is there any rounds you want to complete this time? I always tend to give you the leftovers for the ones I don't complete. If you want to complete a certain round, just let me know. I don't mind working on any of the rounds.

Also, I am going to update the production rankings since S1L9 is complete?

Go ahead, I have a lot going on right now. Plus, it would only be fair if you updated it, since you are the OP after all. And I insist, you can send me all the leftovers for the Missing Eye episode. I don't have that one screencapped, like I do Useless Map and Blackfeet Chief. Now those I can send to you, and not the other way around. :azn:

Oh, and Ron totally wouldn't have made it across the moat if he WAS caught cheating. His ass would've been disqualified so quickly. The spotters would've been doing us viewers a giant favor if they did do that. Oh well, send me Missing Eye whenever you're ready.

So the S1L9 production day ends with a 6.97 score. That's pretty good considering a couple of those wins were pretty lame and Anne Bonny was a loss. I like how all the episodes starting with Lawrence of Arabia go down in score as the production day progresses. :P Anne Bonny was the weakest link that day, but it still didn't finish with a too far of a score from Cleopatra. Lawrence of Arabia, being one of the two highest ranked episodes, helps boost the score for this production day a lot.

Okay, I am thinking about knocking Missing Eye out tonight. :P I actually have pictures for that episode. I also noticed that is our last Silver Snakes run that we need to cover, so I am going to make a separate post to average all of the scores for all of the Silver Snake episodes and rank them. Similar to what we did with the production days.

On a side note, I must post a little pet peeve about some of the Season 1 (and Season 2) titles for some of their artifacts. I was never a fan of the episode titles where it was just a simple description of an artifact. Like "The Treasure of Anne Bonny" and "The Keys to the Alhambra". I liked episode titles where there was an actual description of the artifact like they did for all the Season 3 episodes. Instead, the episode titles should've been "The Treasure Chest of Anne Bonny" and "The Missing Keys to the Alhambra" or something like that. Sorry, just a little pet peeve. :P

Eh, that never really bothered me too much. Though I never really liked the title "The Mask of the Man in the Iron Mask." Why couldn't it just be named "The Man in the Iron Mask?" But either way, Missing Eye is next for sure. I believe that will be another production day completed. And take your time writing this. I don't want to rush you along or sound demanding. This is your thread after all, you started all of this. So take your time writing this. No need for you to feel obligated to rush. I'll accept it and fill in my stuff whenever you send it. ;) And good call ranking all the episodes by team. Didn't you want to rank the episodes by room too? You posted that somewhere, and I'll gladly add that to the OP if you're still up for that idea. But, I won't do anything unless you say I can. I know you didn't get very far ranking the rooms, but we can always add on more and more as we go along. No pressure. ;)

Don't worry, you are not rushing me. :P Believe me, it makes this process much easier with us working together. I spend half of the time now for each episode than when I did it individually. I really wish we did this a long time ago because we would probably be done right now. :P We do have less than 20 episodes left, so I am hoping to be done by March. I am hoping to send Missing Eye out by tonight too. It is an enjoyable episode to watch, so I can completed more quickly than an episode like Queen Nzinga or Silk Sash. It will be interesting to see the final score for it.  :mrsilver:

And speaking of Silver Snakes run, is it me or is Priceless Portrait missing from the incomplete list? I don't remember any of us reviewing it, and it is not on the completed review list. I could be wrong, but I don't remember reviewing that episode.  :?:

I have no idea about Priceless Portrait, maybe it was deleted by accident? Either way, I'll re add that back to the OP. And yes, if I (or we, depending on how you see it), would've thought about this collaboration stuff sooner, we would've been done a long time ago. At the rate we're going, we can probably finish sooner than March, like in February or something. But, we'll just have to wait and see. ;)

EDIT: Priceless Portrait has been added to the OP. It's between Silk Sash and Blackfeet Chief, so we're gonna have to wait a while on that one.

That's okay, Polynesian Girl is a good episode and is worth the wait. And at the rate we are moving, we will get there in no time.  :mrsilver: Also, I sent you a copy of the Missing Eye review. I left the moat, SoK, and Final Verdict field to be completed. All I can say is have fun with the SoK part. :P Other than that, my part should be ready and complete. ;)

Well, here is yet another episode knocked out. This time it is Michael, Emily, and "Uh, a scaffolding?" from the Missing Eye episode.  :mrsilver: Overall, this episode ranked quite well despite the final outcome of it.  :mrsilver:

THE MISSING EYE OF DAVID

MOAT: 8/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

For this moat, the players had to swing across the moat on a rope, one player at a time. Very simple challenge, and very few teams struggled to get across. It was an extremely quick round, and the Blue Barracudas, Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, and the Silver Snakes ended up advancing to the Steps of Knowledge. Funnily enough, the order of which teams gonged in was literally Blue - Green - Orange - Silver. The same order in which the teams are first introduced in.

LEGEND: 8/10

In the early 1500's, one of the greatest artist during the Italian Renaissance was Michelangelo. He was so incredible and talented that at the age of 16, Lorenzo de Medici, the prince of Florence, became his patron. Legend has it that one day that Lorenzo came to visit Michelangelo in his studio. He was curious about when Michelangelo would finish the statue of David that he worked on for months. Michelangelo revealed the seven foot statue of a young man named David who was about to battle with Goliath. Lorenzo was so impressed with how life-like the David statue looked that he asked how Michelangelo made it. Michelangelo created the statue by chiseling away at fine marble. Lorenzo wanted to place the statue into the Florence Town Square as a symbol of his power. Years later, during a rebellion, the statue was smashed but later restored. The eye of David broke off and was lost in time.

I enjoyed this legend very much because Legends of the Hidden Temple never talked about famous artists. They did one legend on Leonardo Da Vinci and that is it. The legend was filled with many different detailed pictures, so it was interesting to watch. Also, the accents in the legend were actually pretty fitting. It was nice that the producers explained who David was too during the legend. I honestly can't find anything wrong with this legend, so I think it deserves one of the highest scores possible.

STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE: 5/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

The Steps of Knowledge featured a slew of wrong answers. Though it was a very interesting round because all four teams managed to make it to the second to last step, making it a very rare four-way tie. This only happened in one other episode, being "The Paintbrush of Leonardo Da Vinci" from Season 1. Anyways, this round is not only notorious for that reason, it was also infamous for the following question:

Olmec: Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel on wet plaster....
Orange Iguana girl: Uh, a scaffolding?
Olmec: That is not one of the three choices.

So the Orange Iguanas certainly blew their load with a stupid answer by ringing in early. But that's not all! Olmec even let two more teams attempt to answer the question, and also didn't get it. The Blue Barracudas and the Silver Snakes guessed Stucco and Roscoco respectively, when the correct answer was really Fresco. At long last, after the Green Monkeys gave out one more wrong answer, the Blue Barracudas and the Silver Snakes eventually made their way to the final step, and advanced to the temple games. This round had both good and bad parts. The good parts were the infamous "scaffolding" answer and four-way tie on the second to last step. But what really drags it down was all the wrong answers given.

TEMPLE GAMES: 7/10

The temple games featured a somewhat rare matchup between the Silver Snake and Blue Barracudas. On the Silver Snakes, we had Emily, who was into cheerleading, and Michael, who was into extreme sports like scuba diving. On the Blue Barracudas, we met Tasha, who was also into cheerleading, and her partner Matt, who played basketball due to his height advantage. The temple games for this episode were entertaining due to the art theme. However, I felt that Michael got the raw end of the deal in the second temple game. The piece that dropped out of his bucket should not have been counted against him. Other than that, this round was entertaining and the last game was both close and unique.

The temple games placed a heavy emphasis on the art theme for this episode. In the first temple game, Tasha and Emily had to create the color Purple and Green. To do this, they had to grab the correct color balls and place them into the correct buckets. The Purple bucket needed Blue + Red and the Green bucket needed Yellow + Blue. The player with the most balls of the right colors after 60 seconds will win. In this temple game, Emily got more balls of the right color and won with a score of 6-4. In the second temple game, Matt and Michael had to jump up onto the ceiling and grab a picture of Olmec and come back down and place it into their bucket. The player that removes the mot pieces of Olmec from the ceiling after 60 seconds will win. The Silver Snakes were shafted in this second temple game. When Michael placed one of his last pieces of Olmec into the bucket, it felt off since the bucket was overflowing. Yet, Kirk didn't count it because it fell out. This gave Matt an easy chance to catch up and win. In the end, Matt won with a core of 8-7. Both teams enter the final temple game with a half-pendant a piece. In the final temple game, the two teams had seconds to climb to the top of 3 giant steps and chisel out a statue of David from marble. The first team to do this after 60 seconds will win. What was interesting about this temple game was Kirk was giving his commentary via a raised platform. Something he never did in any other episode. This temple game was extremely close and the Silver Snakes must've beaten the Blue Barracudas by a hair. Since the Silver Snakes revealed their David statue first, they were declared the winners. The Silver Snakes enter Olmec' temple with 1.5 pendants. :mrsilver: Another interesting note is that once the temple games were over, (before the last commercial break), it showed the Silver Snakes making their way back down to the ground. Usually, the fade out commercial would just show scenery around the temple.

TEMPLE RUN: 7/10

Most of the time the triple captures in Season 2 were entirely the teams fault as the half-pendant was always obvious. Michael and Emily are probably the only team that can get a free pass for their triple capture though. This team pretty much got stuck with a crappy layout. Michael was a very fast frontrunner. He was the only player to pull two books at the same time in the Crypt. The only door open for him was the Troubled Bridge to the Observatory. In Medusa's Lair, Michael experienced some trouble with Medusa's head. After he put both snakes into her head correctly, Medusa's head did not light up the right way. You can even hear the "Let Go!" line from one of the Crypt skeletons while he was completing the objective. After losing some time with that production error, he is eventually allowed down into the Laser Light Room where he is removed from the temple. Emily follows his path pretty quickly and completes the Laser Light Room's objective. As she enters the Swamp, she gives her... half-pendant and continues to move on. It took Kirk a few seconds to realize that she didn't have a full Pendant. When Kirk finally realizes what happens, the run ends with a little over a minute on the clock. Apparently, the half-pendant was in Medusa's Lair but there no sign of it in plain sight.

Despite the bad outcome, this temple run was actually pretty decent. Michael and Emily had a strong performance, but they came up short because the half-pendant was NOT in plain sight. Unlike runs like Nathan Hale and Queen Nzinga where the half-pendant was obvious, this team had bad luck with it. Plus, the temple guard layout was pretty unfair too. Overall, this temple run was pretty memorable and eventful from the production error and Emily allowed extra time despite giving her half-pendant to the Swamp temple guard. Too bad Michael and Emily never found that other half-pendant, or else they would've won in the temple for sure.

FINAL VERDICT: 7/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

Overall, this was a very memorable and quirky episode. It featured a very quick moat, a very interesting legend, close temple games, and a very quirky temple run. The only thing that drags this episode down a little, was the Steps of Knowledge. And even that round is noteworthy and entertaining on so many levels. With both the four way tie, and the utterly ridiculous "Uh, a scaffolding?" answer. Michael and Emily were very good players, and they both moved very quickly in the temple. It was just their bad luck of not finding that half pendant, supposedly hidden in Medusa's Lair, that cost them dearly. If the half pendant had been hidden better, this team probably would've made it to the artifact, and might've even won too. This episode definitely gives you a lot to talk about, and there were really no bad rounds at all. And I recommend this episode to anyone.

My thoughts:
Missing Eye is a classic episode despite the disappointing ending to it. The legend was very interesting and I like the detail they put into the Missing Eye despite the artifact being a broken off eye. It could've looked much worse like the Bifocal Monocle. The Steps of Knowledge round though was one of the many highlights of this episode. I was wrong about how close this Steps of Knowledge round was. Unlike "Leonardo Da Vinci", there were A LOT of bad answers. The "Uh, a scaffolding?" answer was the probably the worst. You can tell that the Orange Iguanas girl was ashamed of that answer. Also, I like how one of the answers to Olmec's questions was Leonardo Da Vinci. Considering Leonardo Da Vinci and Missing Eye are the only two episodes to have the four way tie on the second to last step. :P

The temple games were good and creative. The first two temple games were used EXACTLY again in "Polynesian Girl". Since both episodes were art themes, I guess it made sense. I felt that Michael got the raw end of the deal in his temple game. I mean his piece of Olmec just fell out of the bucket. Why not count it? I am also glad that you added the part about Kirk on the platform. I wasn't sure if it happened in a later episode, but it looks like it only happened in this one. Also, is this the only time the stairs temple game was timed? Because I don't remember it being timed in Enormous Iron Nose Ring or any similar games.

The temple run is definitely memorable. The Silver Snakes got shafted by that half-pendant location and temple guard layout. I think Michael and Emily would've won if it was more visible. It was still a pretty exciting and memorable run though. And the ending is a Legends classic for sure. :P Great episode. Episodes like this, Kamehameha, and Great Seal are good watch despite the disappointing outcome. I will take them over Ahmed Baba or Benzibab anyday.

It looks like next up is Useless Map. I actually have some stuff written for Useless Map, but only the Legends section is complete. I had this episode claimed for a long time but never got around to it. I also have a couple of sentences for the temple games. I am glad that you have the picture too for this episode. Kind of strange we are doing two unfair triple captures back-to-back. :P

Also, starting with Gwalior (12-31) we have finished 15 episode reviews in a one month span. This has been a very productive stretch.  :mrred:

It has been a productive stretch indeed. And yes, I do have screencaps for Useless Map. Do you think I should write out parts of the episode, and send the other half to you? I figure it's time to switch it up a little bit, so it doesn't look like you're doing all the work. Otherwise, I can just send you the pictures, (like I did with your Catherine the Great review), and you can keep sending me the "leftovers." It's up to you, whatever you want to do. But I can definitely send you screencaps. Those won't be hard to round up at all.

You can start the Useless Map one if you like. It will be interesting on how it will turn out with you starting it off. I do have the Legends section for that episode already completed, so you don't have to worry about it. You can send me the uncompleted part of the review and I will finish the rest. ;) It is no rush though and you can send it whenever you get a chance. And if you need help with anything else, just let me know. ;)
