Well, you guys don't have to wait long for a new review this time. Even though the Davy Crockett win was lame and very easy, the rest of the episode was good all the way through. This is why I like reviewing the whole episode because it is not always about the temple run. The Silver Snakes may have had an easy win, but they were good earlier rounds. Here is "The Pendant Collar of Davy Crockett". :mrsilver:

THE COLLAR OF DAVY CROCKETT

MOAT: 7.5/10

This moat challenge tested the contestants by having the players cross a chain of floating rings. The first player had to crawl across the floating rings until they reach the other side. Once they reached the other side, then their partners had to cross the same way. The first four teams that make it across will move onto the Steps of Knowledge. This moat was very quick, and all four teams hit their gongs within a six second window. The last two teams (Barracudas and Monkeys) both hit their gongs at the same time! Compared to most moats in Season 1, this one was more creative. Plus, the competition made it pretty exciting. On a side note, the Purple Parrots in this moat featured Fred and Ron who will appear as the Red Jaguars in "The Treasure of Anne Bonny". That moat will feature the same team cheating to get across.

LEGEND: 6.5/10

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee, the most famous frontiersmen in American History was Davy Crockett. He was nicknamed the "King of the Wild Frontier" because he could run faster, jump higher, squat lower, dive deeper, stay under longer, and come out drier than any other man in the whole country. One the Texas war of independence started, Davy went down to help them out. Along the way, he came across a raccoon that took his interest. He began to hunt the raccoon for miles, but the raccoon knew he was being followed. It climbed through the trees and hid inside the hollows. Eventually, Davy found the raccoon and it turned out and put its hands in the air as it was trying to surrender. Davy did not have the heart to shoot the raccoon, but instead let him go with a collar with a wooden tag that said "Davy Let Me Go In Peace".

This was a good story about a famous hunter that we are all familiar with, but the producers missed the mark with this legend. I am surprised that they did not mention how Davy Crockett fought in the Alamo? I mean that was the biggest event associated with him. But I do like how the producers described how amazing Davy Crockett was though and how he earned his nickname. :P The raccoon part of the legend was a little silly, but I enjoyed this legend overall. I wish they mentioned the Alamo at least. Also, I had to deduct a point from the artifact itself because it was just a lousy Pendant of Life.

STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE: 8/10

This was a very exciting Steps of Knowledge round because of the enthusiasm displayed by the Red Jaguars and Silver Snakes. Plus, this round was pretty close also. There was one wrong answer given by the Red Jaguars, but it was not an obvious question though and something I would not know without doing research. The Silver Snakes made it to the bottom first after getting no wrong answers, and the Red Jaguars edged the Blue Barracudas out for the last spot. When the Silver Snakes reach the bottom step, Shannon and Adam were so excited that you can hear them say "ee did it". All in all, this was a competitive and exciting Steps of Knowledge round.

TEMPLE GAMES: 7/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

The temple games featured close competition throughout. In the first game, Shannon and Abby had to take a Texas flag, climb up and place on top of a tower. It was neck and neck all game, but Abby was a tad faster, and placed her second flag on top of the tower with 26 seconds to go. In the second game, Adam and Eric had to climb through the rubble filled tunnel, grab a stuffed animal raccoon, and then return with it on the other side. It was another close game, but Eric just barely edged out Adam with 25 seconds to go. Going into the final game, the Red Jaguars were leading the Silver Snakes 1-0. In the third game, the teams had to take turns climbing up a ramp, and pull down a water bucket. Shannon helped the Silver Snakes come from behind and win the game, just barely pulling down the final bucket with 21 seconds to go. With both teams earning 1 pendant, it was time for the tiebreaker. Adam rang in with Texas being the Lonestar State as the state nickname, and earned a trip to the temple!

TEMPLE RUN: 6/10

Season 1 featured the most wins on the show out of any season. But more than half of those wins featured really generous layouts. This one was no different. Shannon and Adam entered the temple with 1 Pendant only. Shannon's original plan was to take the bottom route all the way to the Shrine -- which was very clever for a Season 1 contestant because most of them though they could get away with a direct path. She started in the Cave of Sighs, completed the "hamster wheel" in the Wheel Room, and then encountered her first temple guard in the Throne Room. The only room that opened was up into the Room of Fallen Columns. Having no choice but to deviate from her original plan, Shannon follows up the central shaft. She encounters a second guard in the Observatory and is removed from the temple. Adam, her pendantless partner, enters the temple and sluggishly follows her path. Seriously, it almost took him a minute to get where she left off. :? After slowly completing the Treasury of Golden Orbs, he enters the Shrine and grabs the Collar with 32 seconds left. He does speed up a little bit and was smart enough to take the Troubled Bridge out, and scores the win with 4 seconds remaining. As he passes the temple gates, it takes Kirk a good 4 seconds to confirm their victory because he wanted to be sure that Adam brought back the Collar itself. The reasoning behind it was most likely because the Collar was actually a Pendant of Life, even though the team lost their Pendant in the temple and he saw Adam grab the artifact.

Overall, this one was pretty simple and probably ranks among the bottom 5 wins on the show. I know that a team can't choose their layout, but these two should not be finishing with 4 seconds left with that easy of a layout. But still, Adam and Shannon won their layout fairly and they earned their win. Plus, this win is pretty memorable for the ending with Kirk checking the Collar and the team's performance. :mrsilver:

FINAL VERDICT: 7/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

Overall, Davy Crockett was a generally exciting episode for the most part. Every round featured close competition throughout, and the temple run was decent too. However, this layout was extremely easy, and there's no excuse why this team just barely won. The central shaft had the easiest of tasks to accomplish, sit on plastic seat, press actuator, spin some lights, simple. I expected much more from this team, since they came from behind in the last temple game, and moved fast in the temple games. This temple layout was literally on the same level as Silk Ladder, one of the easiest layouts in the shows history. There's no reason why they couldn't have sped through the temple, and escaped with more time. But still, the rest of the episode was exciting, and I still recommend this episode to anyone.

Looking good. ;) And yes, this episode was pretty good, I just wish the temple run was more exciting. I knew if we collaborate on every single episode, this project would fly by. I take it we're gonna do Shaka Zulu next? Continuing the trend of unimpressive wins from Season 1.

Unlike Davy Crockett, I remember nothing really good about Shaka Zulu. This episode will probably rank around the same range as Geronimo. The win is so freakin' lame too and gets way too much love. I mean it is memorable for being the fastest win on the show, but that doesn't make it the best win. And Bobby was not that great himself. So I am going to be really interested to see how low Shaka Zulu ranks. :P

And after Shaka Zulu, I will let you choose what episode you want us to rank. Since there is not many left and we are working on the rest together.  :mrpurple:

Wait, I get to pick which episodes to review next? I don't even know where to start. Hell there are episodes in the OP that STILL haven't been claimed yet. What I can do is highlight every episode, and put them in whatever order we feel like reviewing them in. What order I'm even gonna pick, I don't know. I'll think of something. But of course, Shaka Zulu is next. ;) AKA The most overrated win ever, at least on YouTube. Seriously, how can you call a win "impressive" and "amazing" just because Bobby only wins on a production error? Talk about having no common sense when it comes to liking a win. I swear, these YouTube n00bs just look at the layout and outcome, and not the whole temple run. Therefore, they think "oh, he won in the quickest time, so boom, it's automatically an amazing win." Get a clue, people.

I like your order that you made in the original post. It is a good mixture of different episodes from different seasons. And you mixed up the team runs pretty well too. ;) There are only 17 left, so they should take like no time to finish. I mean we already knocked out 2 in the past 2 days. :P And I can't wait to get to Lost Gold Mine either. That episode will be a good way to end this topic with a bang.  :mrblue:

For me, I never liked Shaka Zulu since day one. It was a lame and undeserving win. The only reason people praise Bobby was because of how fast the win was. I don't care if he had to go through the Holes of Python twice, that doesn't make this a good win at all. And he really was not fast at all either. It took him 45 seconds to get out of the temple IIRC. Yet, it took David from "Lawrence of Arabia" 25 seconds to bring his artifact out with pretty much the same route. So Shaka Zulu is very overrated and this team probably wouldn't have won if they had to take the long way. I actually hate this win more than "      " because at least most people realize that Silk Ladder is a joke. Roland is the more legit fast win in my book

Yeah, Shaka Zulu was NOT impressive at all, no matter how many people on YouTube like to claim it was. Like you said, David from Lawrence of Arabia took the exact same route getting out of the temple, yet it took him a MUCH shorter time getting out. And yeah, I like the order that I put the rest of the episodes in too. I'm thinking of removing our names from every episode though. If we're gonna collaborate on every single episode remaining, there's really no point in "claiming" who's gonna review what next. I'll keep the colors and the production code (eg. 1x40) in the OP, but we don't need to put our names on the episodes anymore. We already know we're gonna collaborate on the rest of them anyways. ;)

EDIT: And just as a reference:

Quote
1x28 - The Mask of Shaka Zulu
1x40 - The Treasure of Anne Bonny
2x17 - The Missing Eye of David
3x15 - The Useless Map of the Chibcha Chieftain*

3x19 - The Dried Apple Half of William Tell*
3x16 - The Golden Spider Web of Robert the Bruce

2x29 - The Silk Sash of Mulan
2x08 - The Bone Necklace of the Blackfeet Chief*
1x26 - The Helmet of Joan of Arc

Looks good to me. ;) I also have quite a few screen caps for some of those episodes too. Robert the Bruce, Anne Bonny, Missing Eye, William the Conqueror, and Polynesian Girl are some of the runs that I can give you images for sure. I might be missing some for a round or two, but otherwise I can guarantee pictures for the episodes above. Also, I do have somewhat of a review started for Useless Map. That one should not take long then when we start working on it.  ;) And with 18 episodes left, we should be done before spring April maybe? At least episodes like Blackfeet Chief, William the Conqueror, Lost Gold Mine, Polynesian Girl, Missing Eye, and Useless Map will be interesting to review.

I hope to be done sooner than that actually. I mean, look at the way we've blown through these reviews since we started this collaboration stuff. The episodes with the screencaps are the ones I wanted to send to you instead. But you can still keep what you have written so far for the Useless Map episode. I can still fill everything in and so on. ;) And feel free to send me Shaka Zulu whenever you're ready. :mrred:

I am sending you a copy of the best solo win review right now. I left the moat, temple run, and final verdict fields blank to be completed. ;) The pictures are already added to the review too. Don't forget when scoring the temple run round that it was the fastest time on the show. That automatically makes this temple run much better than Lawrence of Arabia and Pirate Captain.  :mrred:

Right, and Bobby is a much better player than David from Lawrence of Arabia and Jennifer from John Sutter because wait for it, he lucked into a temple win with a production error. And he finished in the quickest time possible. :mrred: But really, you may or may not be surprised with the final score it got. And I believe this covers all the S1L7 episodes, so it will be straight to the production day rankings post after this. ;)

Time for our next episode review, and this time we worked on Shaka Zulu together. The overall score is really not surprising as this episode was not that great at all. It finishes with the exact same score as Silk Ladder.

THE MASK OF SHAKA ZULU

MOAT: 6/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

For this moat, the first player had to swim across the moat with a rope in their hand, and tie it around the pole on the other side. With that, the first player would brace themselves with their feet, and then the second player would cross by walking on the bottom rope. Basically, it was your typical "walk on a rope" kind of moat. Uncreative and uninspiring. There was really nothing interesting to note about this round. In the end, the Orange Iguanas, Silver Snakes, Red Jaguars, and Green Monkeys got to advance to the Steps of Knowledge.

LEGEND: 7/10

Long ago, there lived a great ruler of the Zulu nation named Shaka Zulu. When he was little, him and his mother were banished from his tribe and for many years they lived off of bugs and plants. Finally, they were taken in by another Zulu tribe called the Matawans. While with his new tribe, Shaka Zulu never forgot how his old tribe treated him and his mother. When Shaka was 30, the Matawan chief put Shaka in charge of a tribe of his own. He created new tactics and a new Zulu army with regimes and commanders. He also put distinguishing markings on the soldiers' shields so you could tell them apart. When Shaka became chief of all the Zulu tribes, he conquered the other tribes in Southern Africa, including the tribe that was cruel to him and his mother. Many years later, a thief stole his burial mask and it ends it ways to Olmec's Temple. This legend was pretty good compared to other Season 1 legends. There was no bad voice acting or childish one-liners in this legend (which is a good thing.) But this legend felt a little boring. It would've been nice to see a little more detail about how Shaka Zulu conquered other tribes. But then again, the producers don't have that much time to go into detail with only a few minutes to tell a story. Also, I can't help to think that the artifact was "forced" into the legend. I mean they don't talk about Shaka Zulu's Mask until the very end? It was a cool design for an artifact, but it should've tied into the legend in some way.

STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE: 3/10

Despite this Steps of Knowledge round being a close call, it was filled with a lot of wrong answers. There were 8 wrong answers in total, and three of them were given by the Red Jaguars and Orange Iguanas each. And some of the answers to these questions were obvious, so it is not like the contestants were given hard answers. Now if this round wasn't so close in competition, then the it might've received the lowest score possible.

TEMPLE GAMES: 7/10

The temple games featured the Red Jaguars butting heads against the Green Monkeys. On the Red Jaguars, we meet Bobby, who wants to make a lot of "dough" when he gets older, and his partner Brittany who likes to babysit her siblings. The Green Monkeys included Michelle, who liked to play the flute and was part of an honors band, and Phillip, who liked to move around a lot. The temple games were pretty memorable for the temple games interviews from the players and Kirk's reaction to reading the title to the first temple game. :P The temple games were also creative too from the different color mask in temple game 2 to the battle horn in temple game 3. Too bad the competition was kind of lackluster, or else this round would've gotten a better score.

Temple Game #1 - Drat that Zulu Drought

During Shaka Zulu's time, the tribesmen had to travel far to get water in times of drought. In this temple game, Michelle and Bobby had to climb up a hill and pull down three buckets of water. The first player to pull all three buckets of water or the player the furthest along after 60 seconds will win. This temple game featured a dominating performance by Bobby of the Red Jaguars. He managed to pull all three of his buckets with 27 seconds left. Melissa was not bad herself as she was going up for her last bucket, but she was no match for Bobby. On a side note, Kirk's reaction towards the temple games title was priceless. You know your temple game titles suck when even Kirk think it's lame.

Temple Game #2 - Mask the Zulu Warriors

In the second temple game, Phillip and Brittany had to climb up a shaft and place a mask on a Zulu warrior. Once they were done, they had to climb back up and place another mask on their head. The player with the most masks on their Zulu warriors after 60 seconds will win. Brittany kind of struggled to get her masks up towards the end of this temple game. Phillip was able to get his last mask up though after 60 seconds was up. Both players head into the final temple game with a 0.5-0.5 score.

Temple Game #3 - Signal the Battle Horn

In the final temple game, both teams had to work together to signal their battle horn four times. The first player will climb up the top of the mountain and blow their battle horn. Once they were done, their partners then had to climb up and signal their battle horn. They must repeat the process until both players signal their battle horn 2 times a piece. The team with the most battle horn signals after 60 seconds will win. The Red Jaguars won the temple game in a close match in the end. Brittany was on fire in this temple game as it took her like 3 seconds to climb the wall? The Green Monkeys were close to, but the Red Jaguars blew their horn four times. They head into Olmec's Temple with 1.5 pendants. :mrred:

TEMPLE RUN: 5/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

This temple run is notorious for having the quickest victory ever. But something is suspicious right away. As soon as Bobby opens the Holes of Python/Tomb door, he actually gains access to the Tomb of the Ancient Kings! Obviously the production crew and Kirk were not ready to pass him through the Tomb, and the door was supposed to be locked. Thus, this was a production error. It took Bobby 53 seconds to reach the Tomb, and took him 53 more seconds to exit. He escaped from the temple with 1:14 left on the clock. As you may have already guessed, this win was very lame and unimpressive. Just because a player exits the temple with plenty of time to spare, doesn't make him a great player. It doesn't automatically make it "the best solo win ever" just because one production error proved to be beneficial for the team. Bobby was just plain average, and he is in no way, shape, or form comparable to the likes of David from Lawrence of Arabia and Jennifer from John Sutter. It should also be noted that the treasure chest was opened during the rundown of the temple. Which basically proves that Bobby was NOT supposed to enter the Tomb so soon. If he had to take a different route, this team would've lost.

FINAL VERDICT: 5.6/10

(Credits to "Purple Parrots Fan" for her contribution to this section)

Overall, Shaka Zulu was just an average episode. The temple games featured an unique sequence, and the legend was interesting, but the Steps of Knowledge and temple run really drags this episode's score down. Whatever you do, don't listen to anyone who says this is "the best temple run ever." That couldn't be further from the truth. Just because a team gets lucky and finishes with plenty of time, doesn't make them great players. Bobby was just an average player, who basically just lucked into a direct path win. Regardless, this really isn't a bad episode by any means, and I still do recommend it to anyone.

My thoughts:
Not surprising to see Shaka Zulu rank this low. In fact, I think it is pretty fitting that it finishes with the exact same score as "         ". Since both wins were lame and always rank last on most people's list. I didn't remember much about this episode before we reviewed it. The moat that day was pretty uninspiring, but at least it was not as long as Silver Saddle Horn. The legend was decent though at least, except the Mask was pretty much forced into the legend and was irrelevant to it for the most part. The Steps of Knowledge was bad though, and the Red Jaguars and Orange Iguanas had a lot of bad answers. Not as bad as "The Trojan Horseshoe", but it ranks up there. I definitely remember the temple games though for the "Drat that Zulu Drought" line, Bobby and Phillip's awkward temple game interviews, and the temple sequence was pretty unique.

Now, the temple run is a different story. Since day one, I never found this temple run to be amazing. I mean it sure was neat that it had the fastest time, but come on now that layout was way too easy. So easy that there is no way this layout was legitimate. Either there was a production error or Bobby forced his way into the Tomb of the Ancient Kings. And even with that easy of a layout, he wasn't that good at all. He almost spent two minutes just to travel through 4 rooms. How he is more amazing than Jennifer from Lost Gold Mine or David from Lawrence of Arabia is beyond me. David would've finished with over 2 minutes with the Shaka Zulu layout. Honestly, I consider "Roland" to be the more legitimate fastest win than this suckfest. Also, the lovefest for this win is way over the top. The fans that praise this win must've watched only 12 temple runs or something. Overall, this episode is average and sits in the list of episode that I will maybe get around to rewatching. My personal score would be a 6/10.

Overall, I think we nailed the Shaka Zulu score. ;) Although, we are not done with S1L7 left. We still have to cover Gordian Knot. ;) But that episode is utterly forgettable, so I can understand why you looked over it. :P Also, our next episode we get to cover is "Anne Bonny". This is an episode I know I can churn out fast because I have seen it many times and know it like the back of my hand. Of course, Ron is the reason everything went wrong in this episode. The overall episode score should be interesting. Also, that will complete S1L9 production day too. ;) We know Anne Bonny is going to hurt this day.

Seriously, how can anyone consider Bobby a better player than David and Jennifer? If either one of those players had that layout, they would've finished with waaaay more time left on the clock. I mean, look at how quick David was exiting with the headdress in his temple run. It took him what, 26 seconds to escape, as opposed to 53 seconds for Bobby? I find it baffling that Bobby gets overpraised for having a cakewalk layout. But Jennifer  makes a few piddly mistakes in her temple run, and she's suddenly a bad player. And total WORD on the YouTube n00bs who have no taste whatsoever in temple wins. These YouTubers probably have only watched a few temple runs to come to the conclusion that his temple run is the best. And their logic is my favorite: "He got out in quick time, and he was lucky. So it's the best temple run ever just for the sheer fact it was the quickest victory ever." And yes, Gordian Knot is coming up as well. That was my original individual episode review, but I just never got around to it. Too lazy, and it's a really forgettable episode. Oh well, Anne Bonny is next. Another episode I don't expect to rank high. All thanks to Ron. And since you memorize the episode, I should be expecting it in my inbox very soon. :mrred:

No long wait this time, as I sent you the Anne Bonny review right now. :P I knew most of this episode by heart, but I still rechecked the episode just to be on the safe side. The episode so far is receiving some mixed scores. I left the temple games part blank as that was the one round I was not too familiar with. And the final verdict in the end needs completed. Like usual, you can change any of the text or episode scores around. With Anne Bonny done, that will complete S1L9 and only give us 3 S1 episodes left to complete.  :mrred:

Wow, just one more Season 1 episode? :o I thought for sure we had at least three more to go besides John Sutter, which we're obviously saving for last. Anyways, I sent you my portion of the review. I didn't give enough detail to the "who won what game" part. So you can add on to that. ;) But otherwise, it's ready to be posted. I also like how both this episode and Shaka Zulu were both Red/Green matches, with Red winning. :mrred:
