Belshazzar was definitely one of the most bizarre Legends episodes on the show from the temple layout switch to the very early S1 quirks. This was definitely the first episode produced on the show and took 18 hours to complete. It had to be because the episode featured some very weird edits that was only in the first couple of episodes of S1 and the temple run was taped in a different layout. As for the episode itself, it was pretty average and uneventful. But you can't expect much from the first episode ever produced. I do like the "Pharaoh Staff" moat in S1, it was probably the most creative moat they used all season. Which is ironic, considering this was the first moat ever used. :P

The producers also chose to open the show with a very weird choice of a legend. But at least it sounded serious, which the very first episode should use as a legend. The temple games were pretty quirky too. We hear the "Find one of the Golden Cups" and the "bring it back to its rightful owner" line. Really? How many Golden Cups were in existence? And isn't Belshazzar dead? No wonder they didn't use it after Dead Man's Hand. The temple games featured the usual from S1. The first temple game was great because the Purple Parrots and Red Jaguars boy were both close in competition. Even though the Purple Parrots won the first ever half-pendant, the Red Jaguars won the first ever full pendant.  :mrred:  :mrred:  :mrred:  :mrred:

I am glad you gave Sean and Katherine a good score in the temple, because I would've gave them that exact score. That layout was very unfair and brutal. They definitely weren't bad players at all, they got stuck with a crappy layout. Katherine moved fast in the temple and hit a deadend in the Room of Harmonic Convergence. She had to backtrack all the way to the Gargoyles Room and use the top floor of the temple because none of the doors would open from the Harmonic Convergence. She gets taken out in the Treasure Room. Sean made his way to the Treasure Room, but it was unclear if the useless Treasure Chest ever opened. Too bad, if this team had any other tmple layout, they would've had more success. Even the lowly Blackbeard layout they would've done better in.

Overall, good episode score and I think it is reasonable given the circumstances the Red Jaguars had to (first episode ever, layout change, brutal temple layout). I wouldn't expect a high quality episode from the first ever episode produced, and I definitely agree with this score overall.  :mrred:

Yeah, I'm glad they did away with the "return to its rightful owner" line. It just sounded so cheesy and lame, same with the "Actually, it's Olmec's temple" bit. Thanks Kirk, we wouldn't have guessed it was Olmec's temple if you didn't tell us. I also liked the "King Tut's Staff" moat, imagine if King Tut's Cobra Staff took place in Layout 1. It would be an interesting coincidence.

And yeah, an overall score of "6" is reasonable for this episode. While it's very quirky and bizarre, it's rather uneventful at the same time. Though it's much more eventful than say.... Stone Marker, which I believe you wanted to review next. ;)

Speaking of "Stone Marker", I just finished my review for it. Yeah, there is literally nothing memorable about this episode at all. No wonder it won the "Most Forgettable Episode Ever" title.  :o

THE STONE MARKER OF LEIF ERICSON

MOAT: 4/10

This moat crossing was pretty pathetic. The first player had to paddle across the moat on a log raft. Once they reached the other side, their partner had to cross with the ropes tied to the top and bottom of the pole. The Silver Snakes were very pathetic in this moat. By the time three teams already chimed in for the next round, the Silver Snake player paddling just makes it to the other. -_- You could even see the player struggling to swim across. Really? Even I would've made it across without that much trouble. Eventually, the last team made it across in an very uneventful moat round.

LEGEND: 6/10

500 years before Christopher Columbus, a fierce Viking named Leif Ericson and his longship battled a ferocious storm in the Atlantic Ocean. The waves attacked the boat violently, and the crew paddled where their oars hit the water. Leif's father, Eric the Red, knew that he would be worried about his son and the violent storm kept pushing his crew further away from their destination. By then, Ericson did not know where they were. As lightning lit the sky, Ericson pointed to the West and found land. When the storm subsided, Ericson came upon land filled with trees. He called it "Forest Land", but today it is called America. He carved a Stone Marker so he could return to the land with other Vikings, but no one ever returned...

Not much to say about the legend. It was pretty much a history legend taken right out of your Word History textbook in Middle School.  I expected something a little more exciting for a legend about a Viking, but neverthless it was a pretty detailed legend about the discovery of America.

STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE: 6/10

There were a lot of questions asked in this Steps of Knowledge, but that was because all of the teams were chiming in and giving correct answers. The Red Jaguars were the last team to answer a question correctly, but the first team to move onto the temple games. The only other memorable moment was the Purple Parrot player falling down while trying to answer one of the questions.

TEMPLE GAMES: 4/10

The temple games featured the Eric Anderson, who played defender in soccer, and Kelly Anderson, who loved to smile of the Blue Barracudas. Meanwhile, the Red Jaguars featured Keeli, who loved to play on computers, and Chris, who was a second degree green belt in Karate. Note that the Blue Barracudas players both share the same last name and age. It is unknown whether the two players were related though. In general, the temple games were pretty unexciting and there was little competition at all. One player from both teams dominated their individual game.

Temple Game #1 - Raggin the Dragon

During Leif Ericson's time, the bowels of Vikings' ships contained decorations of ferocious beasts like dragons. During this temple game, Keeli and Kelly had to climb the wall and take off pieces of the dragon decoration. Once they take off all of the pieces of the dragon, they had to climb back down to the bottom. Kelly was the more dominant player in this temple game and had most of the dragon disassembled before Keeli start working on hers. She won the first half-pendant for the Blue Barracudas.

Temple Game #2 - Build a Stone Home

Chris and Eric had to build a house of their own by digging through a quarry for rocks and climbing to the top of the quarry to place their rocks. The player that had the most rocks at the end of 60 seconds would be the winner. Chris was the more dominant player in this temple game and won with a score of 5-2.

Temple Game #3 - Traveling Vikings

The Vikings use to travel all the time between Finland and Greenland. In this temple game, the players had to help the Vikings travel from Finland to Greenland. One player had to grab the Viking doll from their partner's head while the other player had to grab the Viking doll and put it into their team's bucket. The player with the most dolls would be the winner. Unlike the last two games, this temple game was very close and the Blue Barracudas were actually leading at one time. But the Red Jaguars pulled ahead and got all 5 dolls into their bin to gain the rights to Olmec's temple.

TEMPLE RUN: 5/10

Season One had some inconsistent layers where the temple run featured either an easy or brutal layout. The Red Jaguars in this episode featured a brutal layout. In fact, their temple layout was exactly a cookie cutter of the one used in "The Paintbrush of Leonardo Da Vinci". Keeli started in the Room of the Three Gargoyles, but after not trying all three tongues, she was forced down into the Wheel Room. After completing the Wheel Room and Room of Harmonic Convergence, she meets a rare and one-time only temple guard in the Bamboo Forest that apparently scared her a lot. The Bamboo Forest was a deadend for Keeli though and she was forced to retreat back to the Harmonic Convergence and forced up the central shaft. In the Observatory, she encounters her second temple guard and lets out a earth shattering scream! :o Chris follows Keeli's steps, but he doesn't have enough time to make anymore progress.

Not much to say about this temple run except the producers expected too much from these kids. It's a shame that they had to reuse the exact same temple layout from the production day before it. It didn't help though that Keeli never tried all 3 tongues in the Gargoyle Room. There was literally nothing that happened in this temple run though. The Red Jaguars weren't a bad team though, they got caught up in a brutal and time-consuming dead end.

FINAL VERDICT: 5.0/10
"Stone Marker" is one of the most forgettable Legends episodes on the show. In fact, it won the title "Most Forgettable Legends Episode Ever" in a competition that was held in the Temple Games forum. It was just an average episode in every sense and most likely you won't even know this episode exists because there is nothing to talk about. Every round was just average and there is not even a noteworthy detail to point out. You should definitely watch this episode for the sake of completion. Other than that, this was a boring and uneventful. You wouldn't miss anything by not watching it at all.

On another note though, there has been a recent interview with Keeli of the Red Jaguars on the internet. Some highlights of her interview include how she had to start her temple run over a few times and how she thought her partner Chris was stupid. Definitely worth a read if you have watched this episode.

Stone Marker wasn't a win ;)

But yeah, this is the most forgettable Legends episode after all. I forget it exists 3/4 of the times. The only time Legends was brought up in the news, Keeli had to talk smack about it. I mean, if you search up Legends of the Hidden Temple on Google or Bing, one of the first things you see is Keeli's interview and right on top, it says "It Sucked". Keeli should get sentenced to Golden Cricket Cage for life.

Stone Marker has got to be the most forgettable episode ever. The only thing I remember about it is the Blue Barracudas sharing the same last name, and Keeli's ear shattering screams when she got taken out of the temple. I also remember Keeli's interview on how she said her experience on the show "sucked." Keep in mind though how young these kids were when they signed up for the show. And Keeli was on the show in Season 1, where the whole season in general was frustrating and a hassle to produce. I'm sure participating in a day long show and having to restart your temple run three times was very frustrating. You really can't blame her for thinking "it sucked."

And I am sure Keeli enjoyed her experience overall. After all, it seemed like she was having fun throughout the whole episode. I mean, she couldn't contain herself when the team went onto the temple games. :P And yeah, it was probably a frustrating experience for the S1 kids. They were all pre-teens or teenagers that were forced to spend an entire day in a studio with kids that they most likely don't know. And having to restart the temple run three times would frustrate any person too. The only part I found that was kind of unnecessary was her calling Chris "stupid". The kid was only 11 years old and he won his individual game for that team. But still, I am sure Keeli was glad to be a part of the experience on the show. Every other Legends interview had the player's loving their experience. :P

And for my next project, I am going to do "Mata Hari". Now that will be an interesting one to do.  :o I am kind of glad that I got "Stone Marker" out of the way, which means one less boring and average episode I have to worry about. But Season 1 is still filled with ones that need to be covered - Hannibal, Golden Chains, Joan of Arc, Lost Logbooks, Dead Man's Hand, Amelia Earhart, and Leonardo Da Vinci are more average episodes that need to be covered. Not to worry though, they will be covered eventually. :P

For my next project, I'm gonna do "Cosa Rara." This one will be interesting to review, especially for that stupid legend and temple run. I don't even think it's gonna get past a 5.0 rating. I should have it up by tonight.

Nope, I can't even see "Cosa Rara" making it past a 5 either. The legend was insanely bad and the temple run was very disappointing. Every other round too was just plain average. Although the temple games were sort of interesting I will admit. But they are still dumb when you compare them to the plot of the episode.

After "Mata Hari", I might want to do "Catherine the Great". I might actually use PPF's screenshots because I literally don't need to watch the episode to cover it. I know everything by heart and I need something good to review after sitting through Mummified Hand, Stone Marker, and Mata Hari. Either "Catherine the Great" or "Queen Boadicea" will be my second project. But I will save Boadicea for a later time because I don't want to use up all the good Red Jaguar episodes. ;)  :mrred:

Here it is, my review on "The Plumed Headdress of Cosa Rara."

THE PLUMED HEADDRESS OF COSA RARA

MOAT: 3/10

In this moat, the players had to work together and cross a bunch of "Ancient Babylonian wheels." This particular round was just terrible. It was heavily edited because the teams struggled to get across. It was one of those moat crossings where the first three teams are waiting for a fourth team member and it takes forever. It came down to the Red Jaguars, the Orange Iguanas, and the Purple Parrots and nobody was making it across. Eventually, the Red Jaguars took the 4th place slot.

LEGEND: 1/10

The legend centers around King Ludwig II, who built three castles, one that had a large dining room that could sit one hundred people. The King however, only set the table for two, one for himself, and one for Cosa Rara.... his horse. Ludwig gave Cosa Rara a plumed headdress as a gift, but it disappeared when Ludwig was declared mentally insane, and rightfully so. This has got to be.... the worst legend I have ever heard in all 120 episodes on the show. You thought The Snow Cone of Mt. Kilimanjaro legend was nonsensical and ridiculous? This one was even worse, I mean a conversation with a HORSE?! Poorest excuse of a legend ever, talk about asinine. -_-

STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE: 6/10

If it's any consolation, the Steps of Knowledge round was decent. The Green Monkeys were first to finish, and the Blue Barracudas joined them second. Nothing much to say here really.

TEMPLE GAMES: 7/10

The temple games were a decent match actually. The the first game, Jessica and Mary had to stay on the spinning horse for as long as possible. Mary was very strong in this game and didn't budge even once. Jessica on the other hand, was pathetic. She was loose and barely hanging on the entire game. She eventually fell off the horse with 19 seconds remaining, giving Mary the half pendant for her team. In the second game, Justin and Danny had to take a Merlin, climb up the totem pole, and stick it up to the top squares. Justin put all four Merlins on the top of his pole with 24 seconds remaining, tying up the pendant scores. The third game was the common giant steps game, where the teams had to pull each other up each step, then light the menorah on top. Justin and Jessica had a solid lead throughout, while Danny and Mary lagged behind the whole time. In the end, the Green Monkeys lit the menorah on top first, winning the game and winning a trip to the temple. This was a pretty competitive match, and I liked the temple game sequence that was used.

TEMPLE RUN: 4/10

This team would've had a much better chance as reaching the headdress, if not winning, if Jessica had just MOVED FASTER. Justin was a beast in his time in the temple. He made it from the Ledges, all the way up the central shaft, and into the King's Storeroom with 1:40 left on the clock. While scaling the central shaft is no easy feat, there's really no excuse why the artifact couldn't have been reached with plenty of time remaining. While Jessica did grab the half pendant in the Rock Quarry, it didn't matter. She moved way too sluggishly and only added one more room to her progress in the temple. Just as she was finishing assembling the monkey, time ran out. Such a pity, and even if Jessica had gone in first, this team still wouldn't have won. Definitely one of the more lackluster temple runs of the show.

FINAL VERDICT: 4.2/10

Ouch, I guess we were right when we predicted this wouldn't even make it past a 5.0. But you can definitely tell this episode sucked. From the poor performance in the moat, to the ridiculous legend, to the subpar temple run. The Steps of Knowledge were an average round, and the temple games were pretty competitive. That's the only positive thing I can say. Other than that, this is by far one of the most filler, most boring episodes ever and it's definitely worth skipping.

4.2? I knew "Cosa Rara" would ranked that low and I hate that episode with a passion. The legend and temple run drag this episode down a lot. Yeah, I do remember the prolonged moat where it seemed like an eternity for that last player to cross. Kind of reminded me of the Blue Barracudas in "Mulan" who could not get across while the other 3 teams were waiting. The legend though was the worst part about the episode. A diner conversation with a horse? Really? I like how King Ludwig actually talks to the horse too and they even had sound effects for the hose.   Definitely the worst legend on the show. At least the "Snow Cone" legend had some sort of sense to it (and that episode was pushing it!). Also, apparently Cosa Rara was a real horse too.  :o

I do agree about the temple games though. The temple sequence was pretty interesting, especially the last temple game where the players had to climb the giant steps to light the menorah. Justin was definitely the strong player throughout this episode too. I hate the temple run also, even if it wasn't that bad as it is made out to be. Justin was a beast and making it to his sixth room with 1:40 is amazing. Jessica was not a good player though, and she only made one room progress with all that time Justin left for her. She didn't even have the Silver Monkey assembled either. Although if the team started in the Crypt, I think they would've been allowed to use the top Troubled Bridge. But Jessica was a pretty lousy player and they would've loss even if she went in first. And Kirk was annoying in this run too. He kept calling her "Jessie" and I wish Jessica moved faster to shut him up.  :?

Overall, good review. I am glad you knocked out this episode because I hate Cosa Rara. Also, we are nearing the 40 episode mark already. That is impressive! :o I am going to knock out "Mata Hari" tomorrow or maybe even finish it up by tonight.

Yeah, nearing the 40 episode mark is impressive. We are making great progress in this thread. :o And I definitely look forward to your review of Mata Hari. Methinks that's gonna score in the 4.0 range as well. Though the legend was pretty interesting.

Yeah, I am actually very interested how "Mata Hari" will rank. It feels like this will be an episode filled with mixed scores. I am sure the temple game and temple run might have the lower scores too. And speaking of interesting legends, I am thinking of doing Wing Ding and Ring Ling next after "Mata Hari" ;) I actually like the whole episode and temple run for "Imperial Wizard". It was just the legend that was bad and stupid...

I'll probably do "Henry VIII's Great Seal" next, after you're done with Mata Hari. That was a pretty awesome episode, and unlike the episodes we've been ranking lately, Great Seal will probably get a decent score. Also, I want to do some player rankings again. I'll probably do S1L5's filming day, and compare them to the rankings THK did of those episodes. Not that I'm looking too forward to it, since S1L5 was a pretty crummy filming day.

Good choice for "Great Seal", that episode is definitely a classic for good reasons. :P I would definitely enjoy a review of that episode. Don't worry, I haven't forgot the Individual Ranking Thread either. ;) I still half of Ahmed Baba to complete than Ivory Elephant. And good luck with S1L5. I wouldn't really bother doing Belshazzar for that day though since it will make life easier if you do the 5 episodes instead. But yeah, that day is total crap. Blackbeard, Jean Lafitte, and Delphi?  And Leonardo Da Vinci and Lost Fountain of Youth are average episodes at best. :o

Well, I was thinking of doing just the intended 4 episodes on that day, excluding Blackbeard. I know Blackbeard was also in S1L5, but I figured I'd rank   Ponce de Leon, Jean Lafitte, Oracle Bowl, and Leonardo Da Vinci, just like THK did. Remember how the OP in that thread was THK ranking S1L1, including Blackbeard and Belshazzar? Either way, Great Seal is definitely next for me, but it's your turn to do Mata Hari. ;)
