Legends: The Rediscovery

Episode 31px]

The camera maneuvers through a thick rainforest to stop in front of an ancient temple.  A giant stone head next to the gate of the temple begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk appears from behind the Temple Guard door in the Dungeon and runs straight out into the foreground of the stage to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which legend are we gonna hear about today?"

Olmec replies:
"The Legend of the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba."

"Oh, the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba!" Kirk says in response. "Well the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Fabled Fortune Teller.  Will it be:
"Adam and Rachel of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order?
"Jaden and Cassie of the Blue Barracudas,
"Martin and Andrea of the Green Monkeys,
"Demetrius and Kathryn of the Orange Iguanas,
"Chad and Jocelyn of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Zack and Kayleigh of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "but in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they must cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today:
"In front of each team there's a set of Arctic rings that're dangling across the Moat.  When I say go, one player from each team will start crawling his way through the rings until he reaches the other side of the Moat.  Then his partner'll start crawling through the rings til he gets to the other side."
"As soon as the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He slams down on the Red Jaguars' gong to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round.  Hey teams? are you ready?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
Olmec replies:
"Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah."
"Alright!" Kirk laughs. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

The teams? first players all take off at about the same pace, and about twenty seconds into the round, the boy on the Purple Parrots is the first player to make it out of the tunnel of Arctic rings and step onto the deck.  The boys on the Red Jaguars and Green Monkeys are only a few seconds behind.
?It?s gonna be a real close one here!? Kirk comments as the other teams? first players crawl out of the ring tunnels. ?Who?s gonna be our four teams?? After ten to fifteen more seconds, the girl on the Red Jaguars steps onto the deck and runs over to hit the gong, with the boy on the Blue Barracudas only a second behind her.  The female Green Monkey and second player from the Purple Parrots step onto the deck and run over to hit their respective gongs at the same time.
?That?s it!? Kirk shouts, and the camera shows him standing with the Red Jaguars near their gong. ?We have the Red Jaguars?? the camera briefly shows each qualifying team? ?and the Blue Barracudas? and the Green Monkeys? and the Purple Parrots! They?re all goin? on to the Steps of Knowledge! The Orange Iguanas and the Silver Snakes gave it a great effort too.  Here?s what we?ve got for them.?
Dee reads the consolation prize:
"Look at the entertaining fun you?ll have when you strap on Moon Shoes.  Super excitement is yours when you bounce higher than ever! Don?t leave Earth without Moon Shoes, from Big Time Toys!"

Rediscovery EP: The Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba
« Reply #1 on: April 29, 2007, 02:37:50 PM »
The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba.  But pay attention guys, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
"The most famous witch trials in American history were the Salem Witch Trials.  Twenty people were executed, and hundreds more were imprisoned, and oddly enough, this was all caused by two young girls.
"Reverend Parris?s nine-year-old daughter Betty, and her cousin Abigail Williams, were supposedly bewitched.  They began accusing townsfolk of witchcraft, and whosever name they shouted, that person would be captured.  Some say the girls did it because they actually had found witches.  Some say they did it because they were bored.  But legend has it they were enchanted by a mysterious woman named Tituba.
"Tituba was a freed slave from Barbados, and she lived in a house at the edge of town.  It is said that she could tell the future with the help of a strange book.
"'Come here girls,' she said to Betty and Abigail one day. 'I?m getting a prediction? you two will save Salem from the witches in disguise.'
"But Tituba might have placed a spell over the girls with her fortune-telling book.  The next day, they rolled around on the ground and made strange sounds as if they were hysterical.  When they snapped out of it, they began randomly accusing townsfolk of witchcraft.  Tituba was never accused, but as soon as the trials ended, she disappeared, leaving behind only her fortune-telling book.  Your quest is to retrieve the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba, and bring it back here."

"Thanks Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "But Olmec, where is the Fortune-Telling Book?"
Olmec replies:
"The Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba can be found in? the Daaaaaark Overlook." The camera zooms in on the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book positioned upright on the camera-right pedestal in the front of the Dark Overlook, and then fades back to Kirk.

"All right," Kirk says, walking down the steps. "Teams, you?re standing on the Steps of Knowledge, and in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, stomp down on that ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to the Temple.  Olmec, we're now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Did Betty Parris and Abigail Williams cause the: San Francisco Earthquake, Salem Witch Trials???
Jaden buzzes in: ?Salem Witch Trials.?
?Correct,? Olmec replies.
?Nice job, step down,? Kirk says, and the Blue Barracudas move down to the second step. ?Remember you have to stomp down on the marking to ring in.  Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Were Betty and Abigail: Sisters, Cousins, or Best friends??
After a second where nobody tries, Andrea hits the marking first: ?Cousins???
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?We?re looking for two teams,? Kirk reminds everyone as the Green Monkeys move down onto the second level. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?Did Betty and Abigail often visit a woman named: Tarantella???
Martin rings in: ?Tituba.?
?That is correct,? Olmec replies, and the Green Monkeys move down another step.
?The Green Monkeys are now just one step away from the Temple Games,? Kirk explains. ?Next question.?
Given the command, Olmec asks:
?Was Tituba from: The Bahamas, Barbados???
Rachel gongs in: ?Bahamas???
?Incorrect,? replies Olmec. ?The other two choices are??
Martin buzzes in: ?Barbados???
?That is correct!? Olmec shouts, and the Green Monkeys jump down onto the bottommost step.
?All right, we got our first team that?s moving on to the Temple Games!? Kirk announces. ?We still need one more team, who?s it gonna be: the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas or the Purple Parrots? Olmec, continue.?
Olmec does so by asking:
?Were witches traditionally: Hanged, Burned at the stake, or???
Jaden stomps down first: ?Burned at the stake???
?That is correct,? Olmec answers, and the Blue Barracudas move down a level.
?Next correct response and the Blue Barracudas are goin? to the Temple Games,? Kirk narrates. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec then asks:
?Is the Salem in our legend a town in: New York, Virginia, or???
Cassie rings in: ?Massachusetts???
?That is correct!? shouts Olmec, and the Blue Barracudas move down to join the Green Monkeys at the bottom level.
?Okay, we?ve got our two teams,? Kirk announces, walking up the middle of the step to stand behind the winning teams. ?The Green Monkeys and the Blue Barracudas! The rest of you come down here.? The Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots each move down two levels to meet with Kirk. ?These guys gave it a great effort too.  We got a great gift for them and here?s what it is.? Adam, Rachel, Jocelyn and Chad will each be receiving a copy of the Teen Titans Game Boy Advance game.
Kirk is standing between the Blue Barracudas and the Green Monkeys at the bottom of the Steps of Knowledge. ?These teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple,? he says, ?and they?re gonna do it right after this!? The camera pans across parts of the audience before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba
« Reply #2 on: April 29, 2007, 02:38:49 PM »
Kirk is standing in front of the Crevasse between the Blue Barracudas and the Green Monkeys. ?Welcome back to the Legends,? he says. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s hear it for Jaden and Cassie of the Blue Barracudas!? The dark-brown-haired boy and the blond girl clap along with the audience. ?And Martin and Andrea of the Green Monkeys!? The blond boy and brown-haired girl with glasses high-five as the audience applauds.
?You guys ready to play?? Kirk asks.
?YEAH!? the players shout as a reply.
?Good, then why don?t you go get ready for the Temple Games, here and over here,? Kirk says, gesturing offscreen in different directions, and the players then walk offscreen in the directions in which he was pointing. ?In the Temple Games, these teams are competing to win?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about the first one.?

Olmec begins:
?When Betty Parris and Abigail Williams accused people of being witches, the accused would be arrested and sentenced to be burned at the stake.  In this Temple Game, you will have to grab some extra firewood for the burnings.  When Kirk gives the signal, crawl into the first cube, grab the first piece of firewood, then crawl back with it and place it in your bin.  Then, go back to get the next piece of wood.  On the way down and on the way back, you must remember to avoid the swinging obstacles.
?The first player to grab all four pieces of firewood? or the player that?s grabbed the most pieces of wood in 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera fades to Kirk. ?Okay, time to get ready for a witch burning,? he says. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? A countdown clock now appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?Let?s get the sandbags back in position, and then start swinging them again.? The spotters on the sides do just that. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Jaden and Martin crawl out immediately, but Martin gets hit by a sandbag on the first two tries.  Jaden, on the other hand, manages to grab the first piece of wood on his first try and bring it back fairly quickly.  Martin moves quite a bit more slowly on his third try, but still manages to place his first piece of firewood in the bin with over 30 seconds left? although just a second or two after Jaden reaches his second piece of wood.  Jaden stalls a little coming back with the second piece, but it?s not a delay enough to allow Martin to pull ahead.  Martin continues to trail until the ceiling spotlights above the flash repeatedly, an indication that time is up.
?All right, that?s the end of the game!? Kirk shouts immediately after, running over by Martin and the team boards to count up the scores.  Jaden comes over from behind one of the sandbags a second later. ?Looks like Green Monkeys got one? two pieces of wood, but Blue Barracudas got one? two? three pieces of wood! Blue Barracudas win a half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?Green Monkeys can catch up in the next game, it?s worth a half Pendant also.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?Witches involved in the Salem Witch Trials would be burned at the stake and would not survive.  But in this game, you will stop a witch burning in progress by removing the flames.  When Kirk gives the signal, jump up, grab a flame symbol off the ceiling, and come back down to place it in your bin.  Then, jump back up and do it again.
?The first player to grab all the flame symbols? or the player that grabs the most flame symbols in 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera shows Kirk standing in front of the equipment for the Temple Game. ?It?s a race to put a fire,? Kirk says. ?Okay, let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen, ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
On go, Cassie and Andrea jump up and, with the help of the bungee cords, reach the first flame symbols on the bottoms of the platforms above them.  Each player has a little difficulty throughout the game, but they each grab several flame symbols before the ceiling spotlights flash to signify the end of the game.
?That?s the end of the game!? Kirk shouts, running back onscreen. ?Stop right there! Let me count ?em up.? He pulls the flame symbols out of the bins as spotters free the girls from the equipment. ?Let?s start with the Blue Barracudas.  They got one, two, three, four, five, six?? he then pulls out the last two flame symbols at the same time? ?eight fires.  The Green Monkeys had one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight fire! It?s a tie, so each team gets a full? half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?So Blue Barracudas have one Pendant, Green has a half, but this next game is worth a whole Pendant.  It?s the third and final game.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec narrates:
?Although Tituba managed to escape the girls? accusations, many other people were burned at the stake in the Salem Witch Trials.  In this game, you just need to take down four actual witches.  When Kirk gives the signal, lob a fireball at one of the witches on the wall.  Then you partner will place a fireball in the slingshot and aim at the witches on the wall.
?The first team to knock down all four witches ? or the team who?s knocked over the most witches in 60 seconds? wins.?
?Whoever wins this game goes to the Temple,? Kirk reminds everyone. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock then appears in the corner of the screen, and Kirk steps to the side. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
A couple of the fireballs that are launched bounce off the gongs, but a few more splash into the Moat.  The first target is knocked down by the Green Monkeys, with 40 seconds left.  Blue Barracudas knock one over with 27 seconds to go, just a few seconds before the Green Monkeys knock down another.  After that, a couple more targets are knocked over before time expires.  The pattern of ceiling spotlights directly above them flash, and Kirk runs back onscreen from the camera-right side to declare the winner.
?Okay,? Kirk says, ?Blue Barracudas burned down two witches, but the Green Monkeys knocked over three! So they get the full Pendant, giving them a Pendant and a half, and the Blue Barracudas had one full Pendant.  The Green Monkeys are goin? to the Temple!? Andrea and Martin high-ten as Kirk goes to talk to the Blue Barracudas. ?These guys, great effort.  We got a great gift for them and here?s what it is.? Jaden and Cassie will each be receiving a copy of Monster House on DVD.
Kirk is standing in front of the equipment for the third Temple Game with the Green Monkeys to his right. ?These guys came back,? he says, ?and now we?re gonna see if they can make it through and retrieve the Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba? right after this!? The camera pans up to the Dark Overlook and zooms in on the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba
« Reply #3 on: April 29, 2007, 02:39:48 PM »
Kirk stands in front of the Temple's stairs with his hands on Martin and Andrea's shoulders. "Welcome back to Legends," he says to the camera before turning to talk to the players. "You two have proven yourselves worthy and now?ve earned the right to enter the Temple.  But first, here?s some information to help you retrieve the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
?You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Mine Shaft.  Throw enough rocks into the bucket to lift the slab, then race into the Crystal Cave.  Pull down the correct icicle, and you could choose to go up into the Dragon?s Lair, or into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Dungeon.
?There, climb up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage into the Dark Overlook, where you can grab the Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba.  Correctly place all three torches to open the door to the SHRIIIIne of the Silver Monkey.  Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, but be careful? one of the suits of armor could be inhabited by the spirit of a Temple Guard! If they grab you, you'll have to give up a Pendant of Life! Next, race up to the Laser Light Room, find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and run across the Bridge.  Then, pass through the Room of Temple Gongs, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone.? Olmec pauses for a second here. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am," says Martin.
"Very well, Martin!" Olmec replies, then proceeding to explain the rules. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the Temple Gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Fortune-Telling Book.  Hidden inside the Temple are three shafts that let out in the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and then it'll be Andrea's turn to enter and try her luck.  Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you reach the Fortune-Telling Book, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba? in three minutes, and you will be handsomely rewarded? and here's how:"
?   For just getting into the Temple, they?re both going to get a camping package courtesy of Outdoor Products.
?   If they can grab the Fortune-Telling Book in 3 minutes, they?re both going to get $500 Toys ?R? Us gift cards.
?   And if they can get the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba out of the Temple before time?s up, they?ll both be going to Quebec City! They?ll be staying for three days at Delta Quebec, with an indoor exercise room, an outdoor heated pool and an underground mall and they?ll be there during the Carnaval de Qu?bec.  Delta Quebec, for a prize package totaling $11,436!

"All right, let?s get ?em to Quebec!" Kirk says, excited. "So let?s get Martin going and out in front.  Put your mouthpieces in.  Olmec, lower your gate!"
Olmec moans as the Temple Gate lowers.
"And let's set the clock for three minutes." The clock appears in the corner of the screen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

?There he goes! Like a flash!? a Kirk voice-over comments as Martin races up the stairs and slides down into the Crevasse with great speed. ?This kid plays baseball, I think that?s how he?s so fast!? He easily makes his way to the upper crawl tube, climbs down into the Mine Shaft and starts piling rocks into the bucket. ?Looks like he?ll have to do some heavy rock lifting to raise the rock slab!? After Martin places four rocks in the bucket, the slab covering the door leading into the Crystal Cave rises all the way, and he heads in to meet the first TEMPLE GUARD!
?That?s fast, but he can give ?em a Pendant and go on!? the overdubbed voice comments as Martin hands over his Pendant of Life. (2:36) The first stalactite Martin pulls down from the ceiling? the one hanging just stage-left of the ladder in the room? happens to be the correct one, and both doors open.  Martin then heads into the Junction of the Secret Shafts and, with 2:24 remaining, meets the second TEMPLE GUARD!
?He went in fast and got taken out just as fast,? says the Kirk voice-over as Andrea races up into the Temple and slides down into the Crevasse.  She then passes into the Mine Shaft, picks up the other half of her Pendant on the actuator and enters the Crystal Cave.  But instead of entering the Junction of the Secret Shafts, she climbs up into the Dragon?s Lair and gets to work on the objective there. (2:03) ?She?s going up, that might be a good thing,? the Kirk voice-over comments.  Andrea grabs the dragon horns one at a time and carries them to the back of the room.  After bringing a horn to the back of the room, she places in one of the spaces in the dragon head hanging around the door leading upward.  Once all four horns are in the head, a dragon roar sounds and the door leading into the Knights? Barracks opens. (1:31)
?She?s doing great!? a live Kirk comments as Andrea enters the Knights? Barracks. ?She?s only two rooms away now, can she do it?? Andrea immediately grabs the sword and places it in the middle sheath.  She then tries the leftmost sheath, which opens the door leading into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and reveals a TEMPLE SPIRIT!
?Oh, Temple Guard!? Kirk shouts with a concerned Martin by his side.  Andrea takes a few seconds handing over her Pendant fragments, but she gets them in the gauntlets of the suit of armor and races up the stairs into the Laser Light Room. ?She has to keep going forward!? As soon as she reaches the metal column in the room, she realizes her mistake, runs back through the Knights? Barracks and enters the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with exactly one minute remaining.
?She?s gotta make up some time now, she?s only one room away!? Kirk shouts as Andrea grabs the base and the torso of the monkey statue and brings them to the front of the room.  It takes a little time for her to realize how the middle piece fits on top of the base, but then she goes to the back of the room to grab the head. ?She?s putting that head together? forty seconds!? Kirk shouts as Andrea jams the head down into the statue.  The door into the Dark Overlook opens, and she runs in to grab the FORTUNE-TELLING BOOK!
?She?s got it!? Kirk shouts as Andrea grabs the Fortune-Telling Book with 0:34 remaining. ?All the doors are open!? Andrea runs back through the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and the Knights? Barracks before going up into the Laser Light Room. ?Into the Laser Room! Across the Bridge? oh, I guess down into the Room of the Dragon?s Lair? fifteen seconds!? Andrea climbs down again into the Crystal Cave. (0:08!!) She then runs through the Mine Shaft, and enters the Crevasse via the lower crawl tube. (0:03!!) She crawls through the icy ledges in the Crevasse? but we?re out of time!
?Oh! OH! It was so close!? Kirk shouts. ?Martin was so fast, Andrea the rower, she pretty much did it all, but she got lost in the Crevasse and she didn?t get out.  But they still get the camping gear, the ?R? Us gift cards, and we gotta get outta here.  Let?s join us again next time for more Legends of the Hidden Temple!? Martin and Kirk walk over to the outside wall of the Crevasse and Andrea, sitting among the ledges, hands Kirk the Fabled Fortune-Telling Book as the credits begin to roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba
« Reply #4 on: April 29, 2007, 02:52:51 PM »
Temple Run Summary
Episode 31px]

Name of Artifact: The Fabled Fortune-Telling Book of Tituba
Season: 2
Layout: 2 (6 overall)
Result: Did not escape in time
Time Remaining: N/A
Team: Green Monkeys
Pendants Won: 1.5
Location of Artifact: The Dark Overlook

Quite a few peculiarities occurred during this run.  Martin was extremely fast and decided to stay along the bottom floor, but the Temple Run took a hard left when he was removed from the Junction of the Secret Shafts in just thirty-seven seconds.

Andrea ("an-DRAY-uh," not "AN-dree-uh") kept up a decent pace, but she had the wierdest sense of direction! Rather than sticking with Martin's plan to stay along the bottom and go up from the Dungeon, she climbed up from the Crystal Cave and began heading leftward from the Dragon's Lair.  Luckily Andrea had already found the other half-Pendant in the Mine Shaft, which she would eventually need in the Knights' Barracks when a Temple Spirit caught her.  After she placed the sword in the correct sheath, she went backward into the Laser Light Room before correcting her mistake.

Despite those two wrong turns, Andrea still reached the Fortune-Telling Book with 34 seconds remaining.  However, it was one more wrong turn that cost this team the win.  On her way out, she went up into the Laser Light Room, and then traveled all the way down the central column and headed for the low road out.  As a result, time expired when Andrea was heading through the Crevasse.

Trivia and Records:
In The Rediscovery's tenure, no artifacts have been successfully brought out of the Temple after the player who grabbed it descended through the entire central column, but this is the closest to victory.  Also, this was the first episode in The Rediscovery's history that featured a Green Monkeys team reaching an artifact before time ran out.

She was really only starting to make her way through, since she only had three seconds left when she entered the room.
