Episode 32: The Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd

The camera winds and twists its way through a thick jungle of strange and exotic plants. After a few wrong turns, it finally stops in front of an ancient Mayan temple. At the base of the temple, a giant stone head sits. Suddenly, the head’s eyes light up and it begins to speak:

Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth!” These words appear on the screen. “With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!”

A middle-aged man wearing a denim shirt and blue jeans swings in on a rope. He drops down and runs up the Steps of Knowledge, microphone in hand.

“Thank you! Thank you, everybody! Nice to see everyone again! It’s good to see you again, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth. The rooms are filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legends behind each of these newly discovered treasures in his temple…which one are we gonna hear about today, Olmec?”

“The legend of the Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd,” Olmec replies.

“Oh, the Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd,” Kirk repeats. “Well, the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the torn journal page—will it be:

“The Red Jaguars?” The camera zooms in on each team as they are introduced.
“The Blue Barracudas?
“The Green Monkeys?
“The Orange Iguanas?
“The Purple Parrots?
“Or the Silver Snakes?

“They’ll have to pass some tough tests, both physical and mental, but in the end, only one team will have the right to enter the Temple. But first, they have to cross that Moat, and Olmec’s gonna tell us how they have to do that today…”

Olmec begins to explain the Moat Crossing:
“Before you, a mini-archipelago floats in the Moat. Your task is to cross the Moat by hopping from island to island. When Kirk gives the signal, step out onto the first island, find your footing, and continue on to the next island. Once you’re safely across, it’ll be your partner’s turn to do the same. If you fall or touch the islands with anything other than your feet, you must go back and start again. Once both players reach the other side, run over and hit the gong.” Kirk hits the Silver Snakes’ gong to demonstrate. “The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!”

“All right, let’s go,” Kirk remarks. “Teams, are you ready?”
The six teams scream and cheer in response.
“Olmec, are you ready?” asks Kirk.
“Let’s go crazy,” Olmec replies.
“Okay,” says Kirk. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

“There they go—quickly, across the islands!” Kirk narrates as all six teams’ first members rush onto the floating rafts decorated to look like green islands. Everyone crosses except the Orange Iguanas’ boy, who falls in the water, and the Silver Snakes’ girl, who falls onto one of the islands, prompting her to be sent back. The Red Jaguars’ boy falls in just as he’s almost across, but the other three teams’ first players cross successfully. The Purple Parrots’ girl crosses about four seconds later, and the Green Monkeys’ girl about half a second after that, and they both become the first teams to hit their gongs. “Two teams—we need two more!” Kirk narrates as the Blue Barracudas’ boy makes it across and slams down on his team’s gong. The Silver Snakes’ girl and Orange Iguanas’ boy have both made it across, but the Red Jaguars’ boy falls off again and has to go back. The Silver Snakes’ boy and Orange Iguanas’ girl both race across the islands, but the Silver Snakes’ boy hits the water while the Orange Iguanas’ girl successfully crosses. She hits her team’s gong to end the very brief Moat Crossing.

“All right, that’s got it!” Kirk shouts as he runs over and stands beside the Purple Parrots. “There’s our four teams—the Purple Parrots didn’t have any problems at all getting across; they did great, and goin’ on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Purple Parrots…and the Orange Iguanas…” Kirk pauses between each team’s name to allow the audience to applaud for them. “…and the Green Monkeys…and the Blue Barracudas! The Red Jaguars and the Silver Snakes did great too, but they’re not leaving empty-handed. We’ve got a great gift for them, and here’s what it is!” They receive a $50 gift certificate from Pacsun.

Legends: Rebirth-The Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd
« Reply #1 on: February 24, 2010, 05:08:30 PM »
Kirk and the remaining four teams are now standing atop the Steps of Knowledge. “As our quest continues, it’s now time for Olmec to tell us about the Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd. But teams, pay attention to him, because your knowledge of the legend could bring you a step closer to Olmec’s Temple…”

Olmec begins to tell the story:
“One of the most unfortunate explorers of all time was the Admiral Richard Byrd. On May 9, 1926, Admiral Byrd and his pilot, Floyd Bennett, took off from Svalbard, Sweden in a small airplane. Their goal was to become the first people in history to fly over the North Pole. The two men flew very close to the Pole, but soon encountered engine trouble.
“‘Shoot,’ he said. ‘Richard, I think this is as far as we’re going to go.’
“Byrd insisted they press on, but Bennett had already turned the plane around and was heading back to the United States. Byrd retreated to the back of the plane and busily began writing in his journal. When they reached home, they were greeted with a thunderous crowd of applause as they stepped off the plane. Bennett approached an awaiting podium and began to speak into the microphone there.
“‘Ladies and gentlemen, we hate to inform you that—’
“Legend has it that at that moment, Byrd leapt in front of Bennett and began to speak into the microphone himself.
“‘We hate to inform you that we couldn’t get back sooner! Ladies and gentlemen, you are looking at the first two men to reach the North Pole!’
“As the crowd cheered, Byrd turned to Bennett and showed him a page in his journal.
“‘These readings are the exact coordinates of the North Pole,’ he whispered. ‘No one has to know that we didn’t reach the Pole.’
“‘But—we didn’t reach it,’ Bennett argued.
“Byrd quietly pulled out his wallet. ‘Would twenty bucks convince you that we did?’
“Bennett thought for a bit, then said, ‘Make it thirty, and you’ve got yourself a deal.’
“And so, Byrd and Bennett were hailed as heroes—for the time being. Eventually, it was discovered that they never actually reached the North Pole. Frustrated, Byrd tore the page with the false North Pole coordinates out of his journal and threw it away. Even though Byrd and Bennett did not reach the Pole, the page Byrd tore out of his journal did reach the Temple. Your quest is to find the Torn Journal Page of Admiral Richard Byrd and bring it back here.”

“Thanks, Olmec,” Kirk says. “So tell us, where is the Torn Journal Page?”

“The Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd can be found in the Sculptor’s Studio,” Olmec replies. The camera zooms in on the page hanging from one of the pedestals in the room before fading back to Kirk.

“Ah, okay,” replies Kirk. “Teams, you’re now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec’s gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you’re right, you’ll move down to the next level, but if you’re wrong or run out of time, I’ll give the other teams a chance to answer.” Kirk begins descending the Steps. “The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec’s Temple. Olmec…we’re now ready for your first question.”

Olmec begins:
“Was Admiral Byrd’s first name: Thomas, Richard, or Robert?”
The Purple Parrots ring in. “Richard?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Purple Parrots step down.
“Purple Parrots, step down,” Kirk says. “Next question, Olmec.”

“Did Byrd and Bennett want to fly over: the North Pole, the South Pole, or—”
The Blue Barracudas ring in. “The North Pole.”
“That…is correct,” Olmec responds. The Blue Barracudas descend one step.
“Blue Barracudas step down as well,” Kirk narrates. “Next question.”

“Did Byrd and Bennett: reach the North Pole, almost reach the North Pole, or completely miss the North Pole?”
After a few seconds, the Purple Parrots ring in. “Almost reached the North Pole…?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies, and the Purple Parrots step onto the penultimate step.
“Nice job—now the Purple Parrots are only a step away,” Kirk narrates. “Remember, though, we need two teams—next question, Olmec.”

“According to our legend, Byrd paid Bennett a sum of money to keep him quiet about not reaching the North Pole. Is this known as: bribery, treachery, or archery?”
The Green Monkeys ring in as Olmec says the last choice. “Bribery…?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Green Monkeys proceed to the next step.
“All right, Green Monkeys,” says Kirk. “Still anyone’s game—next question.”

“Is the North Pole located in: the Arctic, the Antarctic, or—”
The Purple Parrots cut Olmec off this time. “The Arctic!”
“That is correct!” Olmec booms.
“We’ve got our first team for the Temple Games!” Kirk explains as the Purple Parrots leap to the bottom and high-ten one another. “Still looking for two—or now, we’re looking for one more team. Will it be the Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys or the Orange Iguanas? Olmec, continue, please.”

“Is the Arctic region directly south of the North Pole known as: the tundra, the tungsten, or—”
The Green Monkeys ring in. “The…tundra.”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Green Monkeys proceed to the next-to-last step.
“All right—Green Monkeys are only one step away now,” Kirk observes. “Still plenty of time for the two—other teams, though. Continue, please.”

“Is the frozen layer of soil in the tundra known as: permasoil, permafrost, or—”
The Green Monkeys ring in before the last choice is given. “Permafrost…?”
“That…is correct!” Olmec booms. The Green Monkeys jump to the bottom, where the Purple Parrots congratulate them.

“And that’s it!” Kirk says as he rushes over and stands between the two advancing teams. “We’ve got our two teams right here—the Green Monkeys, and the Purple Parrots! Nice work, you guys! Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas, you guys did great, too, and you’re not goin’ home empty-handed. We’ve got a great gift for you, and here’s what it is!” They receive Mario vs. Sonic at the Olympic Games for the Nintendo Wii.

Kirk is now seen standing between the Green Monkeys and Purple Parrots. “These two teams will be duking it out for the right to enter Olmec’s Temple, and we’ll see ‘em do it right after this!”

The camera cuts to the left and zooms in on the entrance to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage from the Dungeon as the title appears onscreen, and we fade to a commercial.

Legends: Rebirth-The Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd
« Reply #2 on: February 24, 2010, 06:01:54 PM »
We return from the break and see Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the two remaining teams on either side of him.

“Welcome back,” he says. “Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, but first, let’s get to know our two teams a little better.

“On the Green Monkeys, we have Michaela—she plays the piano and she’s also into basketball and softball. And her partner is Mathew—he also plays basketball, and baseball, and he’s also been to 48 states, including Hawaii. How about a hand for the Green Monkeys!” The audience claps for the tall black-haired girl with green eyes and the slightly shorter brown-haired boy with hazel eyes and freckles.

“And on the Purple Parrots, we have Brandi—she’s a cheerleader and she wants to be a model when she gets older. And her partner is Duncan—he plays soccer, and he also has a pet scorpion—not sure if I wanna hang out at your house, but let’s hear it for the Purple Parrots!” The audience applauds for the cute blonde-haired girl with bright blue eyes and the tall, lanky, brown-eyed boy with slightly greasy-looking black hair.

“All right, are you guys ready?” asks Kirk.

“Yeah!” the teams reply.

“Go get ready for the Temple Games,” instructs Kirk. “Now, let me just get out the ol’ Pendant of Life…” Kirk retrieves a Pendant from his pouch and holds it up to the camera. “…there we are. The winning team will need these Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through Olmec’s Temple. There are three Temple Games—Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #1, will you, please?”

“You bet I will,” Olmec replies. The black lights under him come on and he begins to explain the first Game:

“Before Admiral Byrd took off for the North Pole, he had to stock his airplane with supplies for the long flight. In this game, you’ll also be stocking supplies. When Kirk gives the signal, jump up, grab a supply off the pedestal, come back down and drop it in your bin. Then run around, grab another supply and do it again. Make sure you only grab one of each supply—duplicates will not be counted. The first player to get all four necessary supplies, or…the team with the most supplies at the end of thirty seconds…wins.”

“Be prepared, they say,” remarks Kirk. “Let’s set the clock for thirty seconds!” The clock slams down in the bottom corner with a loud gong sound effect. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

Brandi and Michaela each grab a rolled-up chart on their first go-around on the rotating lever and place it in their team’s bin. Brandi fails to jump up high enough on the next go-around, but Michaela does—however, she grabs another chart instead of one of the other three types of supplies. Brandi manages to retrieve a compass and drop it in her team’s bin with 18 seconds to go, and Michaela drops a pair of binoculars in her bin a few seconds later. For some reason, the girls each get another chart on their next go-around. Time expires just before Brandi can drop an oilcan in her team’s bin.

“All right, that’s it!” Kirk shouts as he runs back onscreen. “You guys can stop spinning now—whoa, easy! Come on down, and we’ll see how you did…” A spotter brings the bins over to Kirk as he kneels beside them. “Let’s see…the Green Monkeys got a chart, a compass…another chart; that one’s not gonna count, so they got two supplies. And the Purple Parrots got…a chart, a compass…another chart; that one doesn’t count…but they also got binoculars! That’s three supplies, so the Purple Parrots get the half Pendant of Life!” The audience applauds for a few seconds. “The Green Monkeys can catch up in this next Temple Game; it’s also worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #2…”

Olmec begins:
“When Admiral Byrd was informed that he wouldn’t reach the North Pole, he began writing the coordinates of the Pole in his journal to make it appear as though he had reached it. In this game, you’ll be destroying some of these false notes. When Kirk gives the signal, roll out to the first journal page at the far end of the track and destroy it. Then roll back to where you started, and destroy the second journal page. Finally, roll to the middle of the track and destroy the third journal page. The first player to destroy all their journal pages or…the player that’s further along at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”

“Okay, let’s get rollin’,” says Kirk. “Put sixty seconds on the clock!” The clock appears in the bottom corner, ready to go. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

Mathew and Duncan each quickly roll out to the far end of the track, where they exit the giant wheel and run through the giant journal pages waiting there. Duncan pulls slightly ahead on the return trip, running through the second journal page with 38 seconds left. Mathew smashes through his about five seconds later. By this time, though, it’s too late, as Duncan has already rolled to the middle of the track, where he smashes through his third and final journal page with a full 30 seconds to spare.

“All right, he got it!” Kirk says as he runs back onscreen. “That’s it—the Purple Parrots destroyed their last—or, they destroyed all three of their pages first, so the Purple Parrots get the half Pendant of Life!” The audience applauds for a second or two. “So now, the Purple Parrots are ahead one Pendant to the Green Monkeys’ zero Pendants. Now, we go to the third and final Temple Game. It’s worth a full Pendant of Life, and they could still tie it up. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3…”

Olmec begins to explain the final Temple Game:
“Even though Byrd and Bennett never did, someone eventually flew over the North Pole several years after the two returned from their journey. Fortunately for you, your journey will be considerably shorter. When Kirk gives the signal, propel your plane off the runway and fly toward your destination. When you reach it, climb out and place your team’s flag. Then turn the plane around and make your way back. The first team to make it back, or…the team that’s further along at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”

“It’s a trip to the North Pole,” Kirk remarks. “Let’s get started—put sixty seconds on the clock, please!” The clock slams down in the corner with the usual gong sound effect. “Hold on, let me get out of the way here…on your mark, get set, GO!”

Both teams propel their “plane” off the platform and make their way toward the destinations. The Purple Parrots reach it first, placing their flag with about 48 seconds left. The Green Monkeys are close behind, placing their flag at the 45-second mark. They have trouble turning the vehicle around, though, allowing the Purple Parrots to pull ahead. Brandi and Duncan make it back to the dock with 20 seconds left on the clock.

“All right, they did it!” Kirk says, appearing beside the Purple Parrots on the dock. The Green Monkeys appear on the other side of him about ten seconds later. “They did it—the Purple Parrots made it back first, so they get the full Pendant. That gives them two Pendants, the Green Monkeys didn’t get any—the Purple Parrots are goin’ to the Temple!” Brandi jumps up and down as Duncan smiles and applauds. “Great work! Green Monkeys, you guys did great work, too, and you’re not going home empty-handed if I have anything to say about it. We’ve got a great gift for you two, and here’s what it is!” They receive a backpack from Outdoor Products.

As the prize disappears off-screen, Kirk is seen standing between Brandi and Duncan. “They did it, and now we’ll see if they can make it through Olmec’s Temple. Can they bring back the Journal Page of Admiral Byrd? Find out right after this!”

The camera flies over Kirk and zooms in on a cluster of fake plants and flowers next to the Temple Gate as the title appears onscreen, and we fade to a commercial.

Legends: Rebirth-The Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd
« Reply #3 on: February 24, 2010, 06:59:23 PM »
We return from the break and find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the winning team.

“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “The Purple Parrots have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, Olmec’s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd…”

Olmec begins to explain the layout as the camera gives us a first-person tour of the Temple:
“You could start…by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Rope Labyrinth! Maneuver through the ropes, and climb into the Sculptor’s Studio. Smash the hollow sculptures to find the key that will lead you into the Chamber…of the Sacred Markers. Match the symbols on the right to those on the left, and pass into the Inventor’s Workshop. Spin the wheel to operate the machine, and open the door to the SHRIIIINE of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room…of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Dungeon, where you could smash through the wall into the Dark Forest…but beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you’ll enter…the Ancient Cave. Press yourself against the correct cave painting, and you’ll gain entry to the Owl’s Nest! Find the special white owl, and attach it to its proper nest, then…crawl through the Labyrinth, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate! The choices are yours and yours alone!” Olmec pauses. “You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games. Who’s going first?”

“I am,” says Brandi.

“Very well, Brandi,” Olmec replies. “When Kirk gives the signal, you’ll race through the Gates into the Temple and make your way toward the Torn Journal Page. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but…if you’re caught without a Pendant, you’ll be taken out of the Temple, and it’ll be Duncan’s turn to enter and try his luck. If you can reach the Journal Page, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the Gates with the Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd in three minutes, and you’ll both be handsomely rewarded…and here’s how!”

• Just for making it this far, they’ll get a sports package from Outdoor Products.
• If they can grab the Torn Journal Page within three minutes, they’ll also receive a game table.
• And if they can bring the Torn Journal Page out of the Temple before three minutes expires, they’ll win a trip to Santa Monica, California.

“All right, let’s see if they can win all that,” Kirk says. “Let’s get you out in front, Brandi…mouthpiece in. Let’s set the clock for three minutes!” The clock slams down in the corner, ready to go.

“Olmec, lower the gate.” Olmec moans gutturally as the gate is lowered, and the black lights under him go out.

“Looks like she’s ready…on your mark, get set, GO!”

Brandi jogs up the steps, clutching her Pendant. “She’s got two Pendants—how far will that take her and Duncan?” Kirk narrates as Brandi enters the Crypt (2:53). After looking around for a second, she pulls two books before opening the door to the Rope Labyrinth. Surprised by the door opening, she makes her way through it. As she enters the Rope Labyrinth, she is reluctant to proceed, seeing the large amount of ropes in the room, and stands on the platform for a couple of seconds before finally venturing through the ropes in the room (2:40). “Right through those ropes—they can really slow you down!” Kirk narrates. When Brandi reaches the other side of the room, she finds the actuator for the Owl’s Nest, which she pushes, opening the door (2:24). “All right—that’ll take her into the Owl’s Nest!” Kirk narrates as Brandi enters the room. Before she can do anything, though, the first TEMPLE GUARD jumps out from hiding, forcing a high-pitched scream from Brandi (2:20). “Oh, a Temple Guard was waiting for her!” Kirk exclaims as Brandi fumbles with her Pendant. “Give him the Pendant, and you can keep going!” Brandi finally hands over her Pendant and looks around for a few seconds, giving a classic “What do I do now?” look into the camera. “She’s gotta find the white owl and put in on the nest,” Kirk says. Brandi looks around the room, luckily finding the white owl hidden in plain view before grabbing it. She tries two nests before opening the door to the Ancient Cave (1:57). “There, she did it—into the Cave; the Ancient Cave!” Kirk remarks as Brandi climbs through the open door. She looks around for a few seconds, again, clueless as to what to do. “She’ll have to press up against the paintings at the back of the wall!” Kirk exclaims. When Brandi figures out what she has to do, she makes her way to the back of the room, where after some difficulty, presses the two actuators on the rightmost cave painting there. Luckily, it’s the right one, and as a sound effect of tribal drums plays, the door to the Dark Forest opens (1:38). “Oh, first one! Into the Dark Forest!” Kirk narrates. “Hopefully, there aren’t any Temple Guards in those trees…” Brandi enters the Dark Forest, and surprisingly wastes no time reaching into the stage-right tree in search of a key. However, she has no time to even pull her hand out when the tree’s arms grab her—it’s a TEMPLE SPIRIT (1:30)!

“Oh, Temple Guard in the tree! Go, Duncan!” Kirk shouts, and Duncan bolts up the stairs. He follows Brandi’s path exactly, hardly slowed by the Rope Labyrinth he has to progress through. “This guy’s fast—he plays soccer!” Kirk narrates. “He’s down to a minute and change to reach the Journal Page!” In no time, Duncan reaches the Dark Forest (1:10), where he completely bypasses the trees, breaking through the wall into the Dungeon. He begins climbing the ladder in the room, and hits the actuator for the Shrine when he reaches the top. The door opens, and Duncan scrambles into the room (0:59). “Less than a minute now—can he do it?” Kirk asks. Duncan heads to the back of the room to retrieve the pieces of the statue, but he’s cut off at the pass by the third TEMPLE GUARD (0:53). “Oh, there’s the third Temple Guard!” Kirk narrates as Duncan hands over his Pendant without missing a beat. Quickly grabbing all three pieces of the monkey, Duncan brings them back to the front of the room, where he quickly assembles the base (0:42) and middle (0:37) before jamming the head down, opening the door to the Inventor’s Workshop (0:33). “That’s it—into the Inventor’s Workshop!” Kirk shouts. “Thirty seconds left—will he make it?” The camera shows Brandi jumping up and down, screaming “Come on!” Duncan turns the capstan in the Inventor’s Workshop, making four complete rotations before the door to the Sculptor’s Studio opens. He bolts through the open door and grabs the TORN JOURNAL PAGE, knocking a sculpture off a pedestal in the process (0:07).

“He’s got the Journal Page! Now all the doors are open—five seconds!” Kirk excitedly narrates. Duncan climbs down the ladder into the Chamber of the Sacred Markers, jumping off and into the room. He proceeds into the Rope Labyrinth, but time has already expired.

“Oh, that’s it!” Kirk laments. “He reached the Journal Page, but he couldn’t get out with it in time! He really picked up the pieces—that’s all right, because they get the sports package, and they get the game table, too. We’ve gotta get outta here, but we’ll see you next time on Legends: Rebirth! Buh-bye, everybody!”

Kirk, Brandi and Duncan wave to the crowd as the credits begin to roll. Close-ups of the Dungeon, the Room of the Secret Password and the Shrine are seen before we see Kirk holding the Torn Journal Page aloft and Brandi & Duncan applauding, and the Stone Stanley logo appears onscreen.

Legends: Rebirth-The Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd
« Reply #4 on: February 24, 2010, 07:01:57 PM »

The Torn Journal Page of Admiral Byrd
Season 1, Layout 4
Artifact Location
: The Sculptor’s Studio
Team: Purple Parrots (Brandi Battle & Duncan Moore)
Pendants: 1½
Result: Ran out of time (reached artifact)

I had an “Enormous Feather of the Me Linh” flashback while watching this Temple Run. The path to the artifact was exactly the same, and this run paired up a slow-witted player with a fast player—although thankfully, they sent the slow-witted player into the Temple first this time.

Brandi was not a good player at all. In addition to being slow, she seemed clueless as to what to do in each room—even the Rope Labyrinth. She languished along until she reached the Dark Forest, where she was thankfully removed by a Temple Spirit with a mere 1:30 to go.

Thankfully, Duncan was an exponentially better player than Brandi. He was fast, aware of his bearings, and smartly looked for shortcuts during his time in the Temple. He put the silver monkey together in an impressive 14 seconds, and even grabbed the Torn Journal Page with seven seconds to spare. Unfortunately, though, Brandi had already flushed any hopes of a victory down the drain during her time in the Temple—time ran out just as Duncan was re-entering the Rope Labyrinth.

Not much to say about this Run—a slow-witted player cost her team victory. Thankfully, her partner picked up the scraps, and prevented this run from being a dismal failure.

Rating: 6 out of 10

Notes and Trivia: The third Temple Game in this episode was a “modified version” of the “Boat Trip” game—airplane wings were added to the boats.

This is one of only two times that the Purple Parrots reach an artifact, but don’t bring it out of the Temple.

Some things never change, apparently: the Purple Parrots usually have to dominate EVERYTHING to get to the Temple. :)

Sweet, PP Pwnage! Until the temple run of course. And yeah, it seems like when the Purple Parrots are good, they're amazing. But when the Parrots are bad, they're terrible. Overall, nice job!
