Is there an extra copy of the Heather interview?
« on: January 31, 2010, 07:42:32 PM »
I just finished a synopsis for "The Snow Cone of Mount Kilimanjaro," but it looks like Aaron's interview with Heather wasn't transfered over from Geocities in time for the deletion. I don't suppose there was an alternate link or a way to view an archive of the page... somehow?

(I tried to use this already, but it can't be any more recent than 2005, apparently? or there's an issue with viewingit because Geocities is closed. D: )

I'll try to catch him on AIM and see if he'll re-post the Interview TAW!

Edit: On second thought, I'll just shoot him an email!

You're Welcome TAW! I've sent Aaron an email, so it's just up to whether he wants to re-post it.

Also, I'd recommend that if he were to re-post the interview, to ask for permission before using it.

Found it TAW!

Quote from: ""The Choices Are Yours""
First of all Heather, thank you for taking the time for the Interview!:

1. Can you describe what it was like when you auditioned for the show?
The audition was fun. There were a lot of kids there auditioning. We were there for a few hours. I had to bring a picture of myself that they could keep and, of course, I had to have a parent there. We filled out a bunch of paperwork and then I went on to the audition. The audition had 3 parts, the first was the physical aspect, the second was a personal interview and the third was a written test. The physical part was pretty easy. It was kind of like an obstacle course except it wasn't timed and I wasn't racing anyone, they just had to be sure that I could handle physical activity. You probably remember a contest on the show that had a large wheel with Olmec's face that was at an angle and contestants had to run on this wheel. Well, that was part of the audition except we didn't run on the wheel, we had to balance on it and keep the wheel as still as possible. Several kids couldn't do it. Another aspect of the audition was a rope climb. I can't really remember that much else about the physical part. The interview was good. They just asked about things like my hobbies, my favorite color, my favorite Nickelodeon shows, etc. Then they asked why I wanted to be on the show. The written exam was a multiple choice history test. If I remember correctly, it had about 50 questions. It was pretty easy but that could have been because I was always pretty good in school. I don't know how easy it would have been for everyone or anyone. Agan, it was so long ago, I don't really have any reference for how easy the questions were because I can't really remember them.

2. Do you remember when you found out you were going to be on the show?
I really don't remember that, part. I just remember by dad telling me that he received a phone call that I was invited to be on the show. They told him to expect some information in the mail detailing the filming; where to go, what to bring, etc. I remember I was told to bring a pair of jeans, a bathing suit, sneakers, and a few other things.

3. When you got to the Nickelodeon Studios, can you describe what it was like leading up to the time it that you would start competing.
We had to be at the Studios very early; I think about 7am. We showed up, handed in the papers and were divided into groups. I was randomly placed with Casey and 10 other kids. We later found out that that was the group who would be on our specific show. We were assigned a "babysitter," our parents left and we went to our green room. Looking back, I'm sure the "babysitter" was a junior producer. He made sure we all knew what was going on and he was responsible for getting us to and from the set. He was with us the whole day. The way they did it was they filmed several shows in one day. So, they would film about 5 different "moat" competitions, then 5 different "steps of knowlege" competitions, etc. As teams lost, they went home. Since Casey and I made it to the temple, we were there ALL day. I think I got out of there after 6pm that night. There was a lot of down time in between segments of the competition, we just played games and watched Nickelodeon in our green room.

4. What do you remember about Kirk Fogg?
Kirk was really nice. I remember we all made fun of how much makeup he was wearing. I think at that age we didn't realize that people on TV wore makeup, especially men! We didn't spend too much time with him other than when we were on set. We also met the guy who did the voice of Olmec. He was really funny, we asked him to do the voice for us and he had a few other impressions as well.

5. Can you remember going through the temple, and if so; what was that like? Did you and Casey have a specific strategy?
The temple was really cool. One thing people may not know is that they take us through it off camera when there are two teams left. So Casey and I went through it with the Red Jaguars before the temple games. Our producer took us through and showed us how to "accomplish" each room. Casey and I didn't have a strategy. Just that he would go first and I would follow if need be. One thing too was that when I went into the Forest and tried to climb up the ladder to the next room, the door wouldn't open! I was stuck in the forest and time ran out. I guess it was a set malfunction.

6. Do you still talk with your teammate: Casey? I do not talk with Casey. We actually never kept in touch after the show. He was really nice but he was a grade older than me and he went to a different school. He as also an athlete and I was a bookworm. I'm not sure we would have been friends had we been in the same school. But we sure made the perfect team on the show!

7. Do you still have your Silver Snakes T-Shirt?
Unfortuately I do not still have my shirt. I wore it all the time after the show and I guess I wore it too much.

8. How long were you at Nickelodeon Studios that day?
From 7am to 6pm. That's only because we made it to the temple. Other kids left as they lost.

Any other thoughts, or tidbits that you remember from that experience?
One thing people may not know is that we hear the story that Olmec tells 2 or 3 times before we hear it from Olmec. Our producer reads it to us in the green room just before we go out. However, I was SOOOOO NERVOUS before the Steps of Knowledge (because I was going to have to talk) that I had to go to the bathroom because I thought I was going to throw up! I was just afraid to talk on TV. But, I got over it and we kicked butt on those Steps. Thanks for letting me share my experience, or what I can remember of my experience, it was almost 15 years ago after all! I look forward to seeing my episode again. I'm sure it will be a shock. And I'm sure my family would love to see it again! Thanks Aaron!
