Legends: Rebirth-The Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator

Episode 21: The Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator

The camera winds and twists its way through a thick jungle of strange and exotic plants. After a few wrong turns, it finally stops in front of an ancient Mayan temple. At the base of the temple, a giant stone head sits. Suddenly, the head’s eyes light up and it begins to speak:

Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth!” These words appear on the screen. “With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!”

A middle-aged man wearing a denim shirt and blue jeans swings in on a rope. He drops down and runs up the Steps of Knowledge, microphone in hand.

“Thank you! Thank you, everybody! Nice to see everyone again! It’s good to see you again, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth. The rooms are filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legends behind each of these newly discovered treasures in his temple…which one are we gonna hear about today, Olmec?”

“The legend of the Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator,” Olmec replies.

“So, the legend is set,” says Kirk, “and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the Inaccurate Map—will it be:

“The Red Jaguars?” The camera zooms in on each team as they are introduced.
“The Blue Barracudas?
“The Green Monkeys?
“The Orange Iguanas?
“The Purple Parrots?
“Or the Silver Snakes?

“They’ll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests, but in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, they have to cross the Moat, and Olmec will tell us how they’ll have to do it today…”

Olmec begins to explain the Moat Crossing:
“Before you lies an ancient rod that has fallen across the Moat. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will grab onto the rod by their hands and feet, and then shinny across to the other side. Once you’re safely across, your partner will do the same. If you fall, or if any part of your body touches the water, you must go back and start again. Once both players reach the other side, run over and hit the gong.” Kirk hits the Silver Snakes’ gong to demonstrate. “The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!”

“All right, let’s get started, then,” Kirk says. “Hey teams, are you ready?”
All six teams scream and cheer in response.
“Olmec, are you ready?” asks Kirk.
“Let’s rock and roll,” Olmec replies.
“Okay,” says Kirk. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

All six players grab onto the rod by their hands and knees and begin inching their way across. The Blue Barracudas’ boy takes a slight lead, with the Orange Iguanas’ boy and the Red Jaguars’ girl close behind. The Blue Barracudas’ boy makes it across soon afterward, with the Orange Iguanas’ boy making it a few seconds after he does. When she is only about a foot away from the dock, the Red Jaguars’ girl gives out and falls into the water. A spotter tells her to go back. The Green Monkeys’ boy also falls into the drink about halfway across the Moat. Slowly but surely, the Purple Parrots’ boy and the Silver Snakes’ girl also make it across. “Purple Parrots and Silver Snakes have one across; now they’ve gotta get their teammate across!” Kirk explains. The Red Jaguars’ girl is slowly shimmying along her rod, but the Blue Barracudas’ girl is already about three-quarters of the way across. All the fog is now gone from the Moat, and we clearly see the Purple Parrots’ girl’s leg slip off the rod and touch the water. “Oh, she touched the water, so she has to go back—oh, Blue Barracudas are across!” Kirk shouts as the Blue Barracudas’ girl dismounts her rod, and rushes over to hit her gong, high-fiving her teammate afterwards. The Orange Iguanas’ girl also reaches the other side, and she dashes over to hit her team’s gong. The Silver Snakes’ boy almost touches the water when one of his arms slips off the rod, but he regains his grip on it and continues shinnying across. The Green Monkeys’ boy has now made it about halfway across on his second try, and so has the Purple Parrots’ girl. The Red Jaguars’ girl finally steps onto the dock, as does the Silver Snakes’ boy, and he runs over to hit his team’s gong. “There’s our third team—we only need one more!” Kirk narrates. Just as he says this, everyone currently holding onto a rod falls into the Moat, and they all head back to begin their journey again. The Red Jaguars’ boy has a hard time holding onto the rod, and falls off less than one-fourth of the way across. The Green Monkeys’ boy and the Purple Parrots’ girl each hold on tight, and eventually, the Purple Parrots’ girl beats the Green Monkeys’ boy across, and she rushes over to hit her team’s gong and end the time-consuming Moat crossing.

“That’s it!” Kirk shouts as he rushes over and stands beside the Silver Snakes. “That was a long, hard journey getting across the Moat, but the Silver Snakes made it, and goin’ on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes…and the Purple Parrots,” Kirk briefly pauses between each team’s name. “And the Orange Iguanas, and the Blue Barracudas! The Red Jaguars and the Green Monkeys gave it a great try, too. We’ve got a great gift for them for playing, and here’s what it is!” They receive a $50 gift certificate from Pacsun.

Legends: Rebirth-The Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator

Kirk and the remaining four teams are now standing atop the Steps of Knowledge. “As the quest continues, it’s now time for Olmec to tell us about the Inaccurate Map of Gerard Mercator. But teams, you’re gonna have to pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec’s Temple…”

Olmec begins to tell the story:
“One of the greatest mapmakers, or cartographers, in history was Gerardus Mercator. Born in Italy, he originally made mathematical instruments, and in 1535, he worked with two geographers to make one of the first globes. As Mercator grew, so did his love for mapmaking, and he moved to Germany, where he opened his first map shop. With the many expeditions around the world happening at the time, Mercator saw a lot of business. However, the maps he sold were based on the teachings of the ancient Greek Ptolemy, who didn’t know very much about the world. In 1569, Mercator decided to do something about this.
“‘Let’s see…if I tweak the latitude and longitude a tad…there! Finished!’
“The next day, Mercator began stocking his new maps in his shop, but legend has it that they weren’t very popular.
“‘What is this?’ asked a customer. ‘Greenland’s not supposed to be this big!’
“‘I know that,’ said Mercator. ‘I just skewed it a bit to show the curvature of the earth.’
“‘I’ll show you curvature! I’m not buying!’
“So Mercator went back to his workshop, and developed a new map—one that wasn’t so badly skewed. They were a big success, due to the fact that straight lines between any two points on them showed an exact compass location. Mercator’s newly revised map continues to be the standard worldwide, but one of the original ones he made ended up in the Temple. Your quest is to find the Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator and bring it back here.”

“Thank you, Olmec,” says Kirk. “So tell us, where is the map?”

“The Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator can be found in the Jungle Ruins,” Olmec replies. The camera zooms in on the extremely disproportioned map on the guardrail of the room before fading back to Kirk.

“Teams, you’re now standing on The Steps of Knowledge,” Kirk explains. “In a moment, Olmec’s gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on that ancient marking in front of you. If you’re right, you’ll move down to the next level, but if you’re wrong or run out of time, I’ll give the other teams a chance to answer.” Kirk begins descending the Steps. “The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be a step closer to Olmec’s Temple. Olmec…we’re now ready for your first question.”

Olmec begins:
“Was Gerardus Mercator from what is now: Italy, Spain, or—”
The Purple Parrots ring in. “Italy.”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Purple Parrots descend to the second step.
“Purple Parrots, step down,” Kirk narrates. “Next question, Olmec.”

“Was Mercator: a shoemaker, a mapmaker, or a candlestick maker?”
The Purple Parrots ring in again. “A mapmaker.”
“That is correct,” Olmec booms. The Purple Parrots proceed to the penultimate step.
“Purple Parrots are already only one step away,” Kirk observes. “But remember, we’re looking for two teams—next question.”

“What is another name for a mapmaker: choreographer—”
The Purple Parrots ring in for the third consecutive time. “Cartographer?”
“You are correct, sir,” Olmec replies. The Purple Parrots jump to the bottom step and high-ten one another.
“And the Purple Parrots are our first team,” explains Kirk. “We need one more team. Who’s it gonna be: the Silver Snakes, the Orange Iguanas, or the Blue Barracudas? Olmec, next question, please.”

“What Greek scientist did many people base their maps off in Mercator’s time: Aristotle, Ptolemy, or Plato?”
The Blue Barracudas ring in. “Ptolemy?”
“That is correct,” Olmec assures. The Blue Barracudas step to the second level.
“Nice job, Blue Barracudas; step down,” says Kirk. “Next question.”

“According to our legend, what island was too big on Mercator’s first map: Borneo—”
The Blue Barracudas ring in as the first choice is given. “Greenland?”
“That…is correct,” Olmec hesitantly responds. The Blue Barracudas step down to the third step.
“And the Blue Barracudas are only a step away now,” Kirk observes. “Still plenty of time for our other two teams…next question.”

“Why does Mercator’s map continue to be a staple: straight lines show an exact location, compass points are—”
The Orange Iguanas ring in. “Uh…” the boy begins. “The…lines are…”
He says nothing else, and a sharp bell sounds.
“Incorrect,” Olmec booms. “Is it still a staple because: straight lines show an exact location, compass points are reversed, or—”
The Blue Barracudas cut Olmec off this time. “Straight lines show an exact…location.”
“…That is correct!” Olmec shouts after a few seconds of silence. The Blue Barracudas step to the bottom, and the Purple Parrots congratulate them.

“And we’ve got our two teams!” Kirk shouts as he appears onscreen and runs to stand between the two advancing teams. “It’s the Blue Barracudas, and the Purple Parrots! Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, come on down here, guys. You guys were great, too—you were up against some tough competition. We’ve got a great gift for you, too, and here’s what it is!” They receive a backpack from Outdoor Products.

Kirk is now seen standing between the two remaining teams. “These two teams are playing for the right to enter Olmec’s Temple right after this!”

The camera zooms in on the plant-covered area under Olmec and a large rubber rattlesnake hidden among the foliage as the title appears onscreen, and we fade to a commercial.

Legends: Rebirth-The Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator
« Reply #2 on: October 23, 2009, 06:08:45 PM »
We return from the break to find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the two remaining teams.

“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “Now, of course, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let’s meet our teams.

“On the Blue Barracudas, we have Jillian: she’s a cheerleader and she also likes to learn about ancient cultures—is that why you came on the show?” Jillian giggles. “And her partner is Jared: he plays soccer and football, and he wants to be a doctor—let’s hear it for the Blue Barracudas!” The audience applauds for the tall blue-eyed girl with long brown hair and the slightly shorter, but still tall, dark-haired boy.

“And over on the Purple Parrots, this is Sherri: she plays basketball and she enjoys listening to rap and hip-hop music. And her partner, Russell; he told me he likes to rollerblade and he also wants to be an archeologist—let’s hear it for the Purple Parrots!” The audience claps for the brown-eyed girl with shoulder-length black hair and the tall African-American boy.

“All right, are you guys ready to play?” Kirk asks.
“Yeah!” the teams reply.
“All right—girls, you go over there; guys, you go over there, and I’ll come up here. In the Temple Games, our two teams are competing to win…” Kirk retrieves a Pendant of Life from his pouch and holds it up to the camera. “…Pendants of Life. Our winning team is gonna need as many Pendants as possible to protect them from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through Olmec’s Temple. There are three Temple Games. Olmec, tell us about the first one, will you, please…”

“Right-o,” Olmec replies. The black lights under Olmec come on and he begins to explain the first Game:

“When Mercator’s old maps proved unpopular, he threw them all away, and set to work on a new batch of maps. In this game, you will help Mercator throw away his old maps. When Kirk gives the signal, jump up, grab a map, run around and place it in your team’s garbage bin. Then jump back up, grab another map and do it again. The first player to throw away all their maps, or…the player who throws away the most maps at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”

“Okay, time to take out the trash,” says Kirk. “Let’s set the clock for thirty seconds!” The clock appears onscreen, set for sixty seconds. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

Sherri and Jillian each have a little trouble adjusting to the rotating lever, and neither one jumps up high enough to get a map on their first try. After two failed attempts, Sherri finally jumps high enough to get a map, and throws it in her bin with 44 seconds on the clock. Jillian gets a map a few seconds after this. It remains fairly evenly matched on up until the game ends.

“Okay, let’s count it up!” Kirk shouts as he runs back onscreen. Two spotters bring the bins over to Kirk, and he kneels beside them. “It looks pretty even, let’s see…the Blue Barracudas got one, two, three, four, five maps, and the Purple Parrots got…one, two, three, four…they also got five maps! Both teams get a half Pendant of Life!” The audience applauds for a moment. “So now, both teams have a half Pendant. But that could be about to change—it’s time for the second Temple Game, which is also worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #2…”

Olmec begins:
“After Mercator sold many copies of his new maps, they became wildly popular due to their convenient use. In this game, you will be making your way out of a giant map. When Kirk gives the signal, maneuver the chain along the slot in the maze until you reach the exit. The first player to reach the exit or…the player who’s further along at the end of sixty seconds wins!”

“I hope our teams know how to read a map,” says Kirk. “Let’s set the clock for sixty seconds!” The clock appears in the bottom corner of the screen, set for the correct time. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

Jared and Russell are both fairly even throughout this game, but Jared has a tougher time at maneuvering through the steel bars attached to the vertical slotted maze due to that fact that he’s taller than Russell. Russell pulls slightly ahead of Jared and maintains a lead for most of the game. No one exits the maze, but we see that Russell is slightly ahead as time expires.

“Okay, stay right where you are!” orders Kirk as he runs back onscreen. “It looks pretty even, but the Purple Parrots are slightly ahead, so the Purple Parrots get the half Pendant of Life!” The audience applauds briefly. “So now, the Purple Parrots have one Pendant, and the Blue Barracudas have a half. But now, we go to the third and final Temple Game. It’s worth a full Pendant of Life—Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3…”

Olmec begins to explain the final Temple Game:
“Many explorers took Mercator’s maps on journeys with them when they explored new worlds. In this game, you don’t need to consult a map—your destination is only a few feet away! When Kirk gives the signal, propel your boat off the dock and sail toward your destination. Once you reach it, jump out and place your team’s flag on the land. Then climb back in the boat, turn it around and sail back. If you touch the water, you’ll have to go back and start again. The first team to step back onto the dock, or…the team that’s further along at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”

“This is for the Temple,” Kirk explains. “Let’s put sixty seconds on the clock, please!” The clock slams down in the bottom right-hand corner, all ready to go. “I’m gonna get out of the way—don’t wanna be rolled over. On your mark, get set, GO! There they go! Bon voyage!”

Both teams roll off the dock at about the same rate. The Purple Parrots take the lead once they reach the predetermined destination, planting their purple flag first, and climbing back in their boat before the Blue Barracudas plant their blue flag. The Purple Parrots pull themselves back to the dock and rush back onto it with ten seconds to spare.

“Okay,” Kirk says, now on the dock beside the Purple Parrots. The Blue Barracudas appear on the other side of him a few seconds later. “The Purple Parrots planted their flag and made it back first, so the Purple Parrots get the full Pendant. That gives the Purple Parrots two Pendants, the Blue Barracudas have a half Pendant—the Purple Parrots are goin’ to the Temple!” Russell and Sherri high-ten one another as the Blue Barracudas clap politely with the audience. “Blue Barracudas over here, they did great, too. You guys aren’t goin’ home empty-handed, though—we’ve got a great gift for ‘em, and here’s what it is!” They receive Coraline on DVD.

As the prize disappears off-screen, Kirk is seen standing between Russell and Sherri. “Now, we’ll see if the Purple Parrots can make it through the Temple and retrieve the Inaccurate Map of Gerard’s Mercator, and that’ll happen right after this!”

The camera pans in on the Temple and zooms in on the Inaccurate Map as the title appears onscreen, and we go to a commercial.

Legends: Rebirth-The Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator
« Reply #3 on: October 23, 2009, 06:12:33 PM »
We return from the break to find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the winning team.

“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “The Purple Parrots have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, Olmec’s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Inaccurate Map of Gerard Mercator…”

Olmec begins to explain the Temple layout as the camera gives us a first-person walkthrough of the Temple:
“You could start…by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Bottomless Pit! Swing across the gap, and climb into the Lunar Landing. Align the puzzle on the satellite, and a door may open into the Clockwork Room. Set the clocks for the correct time, and pass into the Room…of the Mystical Keys! Reach into the compartments to find the two correct keys, and open the door to the SHRIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room…of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Dungeon, where you could smash through the wall into the Dark Forest—but beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you’ll enter…the Jungle Ruins! Climb over the ruins, and you’ll gain entry to the Atlantean Altar. Uncover the tile that lets in the waters of Atlantis, then…race through the Pit, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate. The choices are yours and yours alone!” Olmec pauses. “You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games. Who’s going first?”

“I am,” says Russell.

“Very well, Russell,” Olmec replies. “When Kirk gives the signal, you’ll race through the Gate into the Temple and make your way toward the Inaccurate Map. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but…if you’re caught without a Pendant, you’ll be taken out of the Temple, and it’ll be Sherri’s turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the Map, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the Gates with the Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator in three minutes, and you’ll both be handsomely rewarded…and here’s how!”

• Just for making it this far, they’ll get a digital camera.
• If they can grab the Inaccurate Map within three minutes, they’ll also receive a sports package from Outdoor Products.
• And if they can bring the Inaccurate Map out of the Temple before three minutes expires, they’ll win a ski trip to Aspen, Colorado.

“All right, let’s see if we can get ‘em to Aspen,” says Kirk. “Both of you, mouthpieces in, please. Let’s set the clock for three minutes!” The clock appears in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

“Olmec, lower your gate, if you please.” Olmec moans gutturally as the gate is lowered, and the black lights under him go out.

“Ready, Russell?” asks Kirk.
“Yeah,” Russell replies.
“On your mark,” Kirk begins, “get set, GO!”

“There he goes, up into the Temple!” Kirk narrates as Russell dashes up the stairs and disappears behind Olmec. “Which way’s he heading?” Russell answers Kirk’s question by taking the upper path to the Crypt. The first book he pulls opens the door to the Bottomless Pit, and he progresses through it (2:52). Russell grabs the rope and swings across the gap in the Pit, hitting the actuators for the doors to the Lunar Landing and the Clockwork Room; only the door to the latter room opens (2:46). “All right, that door’s gonna take him into the Clock Room!” Kirk explains. “He’ll have to set the clock to the right time in there!” Russell glances at the large clock on the door at the back of the room, set for twelve o’clock. He goes to work on the stage-right clocks first, setting all three of them for the same time as the large clock. He then goes to work on the stage-left clocks, and sets them all for twelve o’clock with little difficulty. The door to the Lunar Landing opens, but also reveals the first TEMPLE GUARD in the process (2:20). “Oh, Temple Guard, behind the door!” Kirk shouts. “Give him the Pendant, and he’ll leave you alone!” Russell does as Kirk says, quickly handing over his Pendant. The Temple Guard moves aside, and Russell starts climbing the ladder up into the Lunar Landing, emerging in the room a few seconds later (2:00). “Now he’s in the Lunar Landing Room; he’s gotta put the satellite together!” Kirk tries to explain. “Or, he’s gotta line it up, I’m sorry!” Russell goes to the center of the room and begins working on the cylindrical stone column, which is decorated to look like a satellite. Space-age beeping and other futuristic noises can be heard as he maneuvers the cylinder into position. When he successfully aligns the markings on the satellite, a loud sound like a rocket launching is heard, and a recorded man’s voice says “Liftoff! We have liftoff!” as the door to the Room of the Mystical Keys opens (1:37). “All right, we have a liftoff!” shouts Kirk enthusiastically, imitating the voice. “Now where’s he headed?” Russell heads toward the door to the Room of the Mystical Keys, but it didn’t go down all the way. He pushes the door down with his foot and progresses into the room, but before he can do anything, the second TEMPLE GUARD jumps out from hiding (1:30).

“Oh, another Temple Guard!” Kirk shouts. “Go, Sherrie!” Sherri darts up the stairs to the Crypt, retracing Russell’s steps. “She’s got a big path cleared out; all she has to do is follow it!” Kirk exclaims. Sherri takes the high path, ignoring the open door from the Clockwork Room to the Room of the Mystical Keys, but she does make it to where Russell was taken out (1:22). She looks around for a few seconds, trying to figure out what to do until she sees the nine compartments on the wall in the back of the room. She reaches into the bottom left compartment in search of a key, but comes out empty-handed (1:17). Sherri continues her search, working her way up the compartments until she finds one key in the middle compartment. “There’s one key, she needs to find one more!” Kirk narrates. Sherri reaches into the rightmost middle compartment next, and pulls out the second key (1:10). She brings them back to the front of the room and inserts one key into the cylindrical column on the left, which lights up red and produces a whooshing sound. Sherri inserts the other key in the middle column, but nothing happens. “Is it gonna be the last one?” Kirk asks. Sherri inserts the key in the rightmost column, which lights up red, opening the door downward to the Jungle Ruins (1:00). “That’s it, the door’s open,” Kirk narrates. Sherri tries to head into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, but at the last second, she notices the open door to the Jungle Ruins, so she begins climbing down the ladder into this room instead. “Now what…oh, she’s in the room!” Kirk exclaims as the camera shows Russell clapping and cheering. “She’s in the Jungle Ruins! All she has to do is get the Map!” Sherri steps off the ladder, lopes around the fake foliage to the front of the room, and grabs the INACCURATE MAP (0:49).

“She’s got it!” Kirk shouts. “Now can she get back out in time?” Sherri climbs over the plastic plants and stone structures in the Jungle Ruins and climbs through the open door into the Atlantean Altar (0:42). “Forty-two seconds—she’s got plenty of time!” Kirk narrates. She dashes through the Pit, entering the lower crawl tube of the Ledges a short time later (0:35). She laboriously climbs through the room and runs back through the Temple Gate with 28 seconds to spare.

“She got it!” Kirk exclaims as a fanfare of trumpets blares. Russell raises his fists in the air and begins cheering, and he and Sherri high-five. “She got it out! Russell did most of the work, and she made it out with the Map! They got it all—they got the digital camera, the sports package—they’re goin’ skiing in Aspen, Colorado!” Russell and Sherri high-ten as Kirk puts his hands on both team members’ shoulders. “They’re happy, I can tell! This was a great, great—Purple Parrots team, I’m really glad we could meet ‘em. But we’ve gotta get outta here, though. But we’ll see ya next time, and remember: it’s not just Legends, it’s Legends: Rebirth! Buh-bye!”

Kirk, Russell and Sherri chat and wave to the crowd as Sherri proudly holds the Inaccurate Map high as the credits roll. Close-ups are seen of several rooms in the Temple, including the Atlantean Altar, the Jungle Ruins, and the Dark Forest. A rubber snake is seen climbing a tree somewhere on-set, and Kirk and the winning team is seen one final time, waving to the crowd, before the Stone Stanley logo appears onscreen.

The Inaccurate Map of Gerardus Mercator
Season 1, Layout 3
Artifact Location
: The Jungle Ruins
Team: Purple Parrots (Sherri Tate & Russell Goods)
Pendants: 2
Result: Escaped! (0:28 left)

This run was extremely simple, but as I always say, a win is a win. When a team made up of two average-speed players meets a layout as easy and straightforward as this one, victory is often a given thing.

Russell wasn’t the fastest contestant by any means, but he knew what to do in pretty much every room he entered. The only room that caused him a little trouble was the Lunar Landing, in which he had trouble lining up the picture on the satellite-shaped column. He was quick to hand over his Pendant, and was taken out in the Room of the Mystical Keys with a healthy minute-and-a-half left on the clock.

Like Russell, Sherri was a tad on the slow side, but she did complete the objective of the only room she entered, and grabbed the Inaccurate Map with plenty of time to spare. She made it out of the Temple with the artifact, and recorded the first victory for the Purple Parrots since the launch of Rebirth. All in all, it was a pretty good run for what it was.

Rating: 6.5 out of 10

Notes and Trivia: Obviously, this is the first time the Purple Parrots make it to the Temple on Rebirth. It’s also one of only two Purple Parrots victories in Rebirth’s tenure, making it one of only five Purple Parrots victories in the history of Legends of the Hidden Temple itself.

As Sherri is exiting the Temple, you can barely make out the Leather Scabbard of William Wallace at the front of the Atlantean Altar as she exits the room. This leads me to believe that these two episodes were taped on the same day.

This episode has one of the longest Moat Crossings to date—almost a full three minutes.

Like the original show, this episode’s Temple Games all last for one minute. Most other Rebirth episodes have one Game that lasts thirty seconds and two more that last for a minute.

I'm not sure if the show would allow five minutes of Moat. Usually the episode has to come up to about 24 minutes, leaving 6 minutes for commercials. But it's a very good episode. The layout for the temple run is pretty unique, too.

Good point. This episode's Moat has now been shortened to a three-minute one.

Not bad, not bad at all.  I was wondering when the Parrots were gonna make it to the Temple. :P
