Episode 15: The Broken Helmet of Erik the Red

The camera winds and twists its way through a thick jungle of strange and exotic plants. After a few wrong turns, it finally stops in front of an ancient Mayan temple. At the base of the temple, a giant stone head sits. Suddenly, the head’s eyes light up and it begins to speak:

Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth!” These words appear on the screen. “With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!”

A middle-aged man wearing a denim shirt and blue jeans swings in on a rope. He drops down and runs up the Steps of Knowledge, microphone in hand.

“Thank you! Thank you, everybody! Nice to see everyone again! It’s good to see you again, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth. The rooms are filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legends behind each of these newly discovered treasures in his temple…which one are we gonna hear about today, Olmec?”

“The legend of the Broken Helmet of Erik the Red,” Olmec replies.

“Ah, the Broken Helmet of Erik the Red,” Kirk replies. “Well, the legend is set, and one of these teams could have a chance to retrieve the broken helmet—will it be:

“The Red Jaguars?” The camera zooms in on each team as they are introduced.
“The Blue Barracudas?
“The Green Monkeys?
“The Orange Iguanas?
“The Purple Parrots?
“Or the Silver Snakes?

“They’ll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests, but in the end, only one team can enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, they have to cross the Moat, and Olmec will tell us how they’ll have to do that today…”

Olmec begins to explain the Moat Crossing:
“Before you are several petrified logs that have fallen into the Moat. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will begin walking across the logs to the other side. Once you’re safely across, your partner will begin crossing as well. If you fall or touch the logs with your hands, you must go back and start again. Once both players reach the other side, run over and hit the gong.” Kirk hits the Silver Snakes’ gong to demonstrate. “The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!”

“All right, log rolling. Let’s get started,” Kirk says. “Hey teams, are you ready?”
All six teams scream and cheer in response.
“Olmec, are you ready?” Kirk asks.
“I was chiseled ready,” Olmec replies.
“Okay,” says Kirk. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

All six teams run onto the row of logs. The Green Monkeys’ boy almost immediately falls off, as do the Silver Snakes’ girl and the Orange Iguanas’ boy. The Blue Barracudas’ boy makes it about halfway across before falling off. The Red Jaguars’ boy and Purple Parrots’ girl make it all the way across, however. “It’s really tough—you gotta keep your balance!” Kirk narrates. The Purple Parrots’ boy falls in the water, as does the Green Monkeys’ boy on his second try at crossing. The Blue Barracudas’ boy, Orange Iguanas’ boy, and Silver Snakes’ girl make it across at the same time as the Red Jaguars’ girl, who rushes over to hit the gong for her team. The Green Monkeys’ boy successfully crosses the Moat on his third try. The Blue Barracudas’ girl rushes across the logs without a hitch, and she hits her team’s gong. “Two teams advancing…two teams will join them!” Kirk narrates. The Green Monkeys’ girl makes it about three-fourths of the way across this time, but eventually loses her balance and hits the drink. The Orange Iguanas’ girl and Purple Parrots’ boy both make it across, and both rush over to hit their gong and end the Moat Crossing.

“That’s it! We’ve got our four teams!” Kirk shouts as he runs over and stands beside the Purple Parrots. “We had people falling off left and right, but the Purple Parrots hung in there, and going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Purple Parrots…along with the Orange Iguanas,” Kirk briefly pauses between each team’s name to allow for applause. “And the Blue Barracudas, and the Red Jaguars! The Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes didn’t quite make it, but they’re not goin’ home empty-handed. We’ve got a great gift for ‘em, and here’s what it is!” They receive a $50 gift certificate from Pacsun.

Kirk and the remaining four teams are now standing atop the Steps of Knowledge. “As the quest continues, it’s time for Olmec to tell us about the Broken Helmet of Erik the Red. But teams, pay attention, because your knowledge of this legend could bring you a step closer to Olmec’s Temple…”

Olmec begins to tell the story:
“One of the most daring explorers in history was the Viking sailor Erik the Red. In the late 900s, Erik became the first European to set foot in what is now Greenland, and in 985, persuaded several of his friends to help him set up a settlement there. When Erik’s son, Leif Eriksson, grew to be a man, he also became a great explorer. Legend has it that when Leif set sail from Europe on his first voyage, Erik the Red was eager to go along with his son.
“‘Come on, Dad!’ shouted Leif. ‘You’ll miss the boat!’
“‘I’m coming, son!’ replied Erik as he rode full speed on his horse toward the ship. ‘Giddyup!’
“Just then, Erik’s horse tossed its head, throwing Erik off its back. Erik fell to the hard ground, and one of the horns on his bronze helmet broke off. Known as a superstitious man, Erik immediately assumed the worst.
“‘It’s a sign,’ Erik said to himself. ‘If I go on that voyage, something horrible will happen to me…’
“‘Hey—you okay, Dad?’ called Leif.
“‘I’m okay, son,’ shouted Erik. ‘But, uh…why don’t you just go on without me? I’ll be fine!’
“Leif Eriksson sailed off without his father, and eventually became the first person from Europe to see North America, which he called ‘Vineland’ because of the wild grapes growing there. Ironically, Erik the Red’s prediction that something bad would happen to him came true after all—he died before his son even returned home. However, his broken helmet was lost—until now, that is. Your quest is to find the Broken Helmet of Erik the Red and bring it back here.”

“Sounds like a challenge,” Kirk says. “Tell us, where is the Broken Helmet?”

“The Broken Helmet of Erik the Red can be found in the Geographer’s Study,” Olmec replies. The camera zooms in on the helmet perched on the guardrail of the room before fading back to Kirk.

“Teams, you’re now standing on the Steps of Knowledge,” Kirk explains. “In a moment, Olmec’s gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on that ancient marking in front of you. If you’re right, you’ll move down to the next level, but if you’re wrong or you run out of time, I’ll give the other teams a chance to answer.” Kirk begins descending the Steps. “The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec’s Temple. Olmec—we’re now ready for your first question.”

Olmec begins:
“Was Erik the Red: a pirate, a Viking, or a samurai?”
The Blue Barracudas ring in. “A Viking.”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Blue Barracudas descend one step.
“Blue Barracudas, step down,” Kirk narrates. “Next question, Olmec.”

“Was Erik the first European to set foot in: Greenland, Iceland, or Ireland?”
The Orange Iguanas ring in. “Uh…Greenland?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Orange Iguanas step down one level.
“Orange Iguanas can step down as well,” Kirk narrates. “Next question.”

“Which Viking explorer was Erik’s son—”
The Blue Barracudas ring in. “Leif Eriksson?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Blue Barracudas descend to the next-to-last step.
“And now, the Blue Barracudas are only one step away from the Temple Games,” Kirk narrates. “But it’s not over yet. Next question, please.”

“What happened to Erik as he was trying to catch the boat—”
The Purple Parrots ring in. “He, um…fell off his horse?”
“That…is correct,” Olmec replies. The Purple Parrots step down.
“Nice work, Purple Parrots,” Kirk narrates. “Next question.”

“When Erik fell off his horse, did he: cry—”
The Orange Iguanas ring in. “He, um…thought it was bad, and…he didn’t go on the ship,” the girl says.
“On the voyage,” her teammate adds.
“Close enough for the rock,” Olmec replies. The Orange Iguanas hesitantly step to the next-to-last step.
“We’ll give it to you,” reassures Kirk. “And now, the Orange Iguanas are only a step away. Next question.”

“What did Leif discover on the voyage: North America, South America, or Central America?”
The Red Jaguars ring in after a few seconds. “North America?”
“That is correct,” Olmec rumbles. The Red Jaguars step down to the second step.
“The Red Jaguars are now on the board,” Kirk narrates. “It’s still anyone’s game. Next question, please, Olmec.”

“Did Leif name North America: Treeland, Bushland, or Vineland?”
The Blue Barracudas ring in. “Vineland?”
“That…is correct!” Olmec shouts. The Blue Barracudas step the bottom.
“And here’s our first team for the Temple Games!” Kirk exclaims. “But we still need one more. Who’s it gonna be: the Red Jaguars, the Orange Iguanas, or the Purple Parrots? We may find out with this next question.”

“What happened to Erik the Red before his son returned: he became ill, he was lost—”
The Orange Iguanas ring in. “He died?”
That is correct!” Olmec exclaims. The Orange Iguanas join the Blue Barracudas on the bottom step.

“And we’ve got our two teams!” Kirk shouts as he rushes over and stands between the two teams. “It’s the Blue Barracudas, and the Orange Iguanas! Nice work, guys! Purple Parrots and Red Jaguars, you guys did great, too. It was literally anyone’s game in that one. We’ve got a great gift for you guys, too, and here’s what it is!” They receive Boogie for the Nintendo Wii.

“These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec’s Temple, and they’ll do that right after this!” Kirk exclaims.

The camera fades to the audience’s side of the Moat, and flies across the Moat until coming to rest on top of the Red Jaguars’ gong. The title appears onscreen, and we go to a commercial.

We return from the break and see Kirk standing in front of the Temple with one team on either side of him.

“Welcome back,” he says. “Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let’s get to know our two teams a little bit better.

“On the Blue Barracudas, we have Hayley—she plays basketball, and she wants to be a nurse. And her partner is Matt—he plays soccer and golf, and he wants to be a computer programmer—let’s hear it for the Blue Barracudas!” The audience claps for the short black-haired girl with green eyes and the taller, brown-haired, brown-eyed boy.

“And on the Orange Iguanas, we have Courtney—she runs track, and she also likes to go to the mall with her friends. And her partner is Josh—he’s on the basketball team at his school, and he wants to be a lawyer—how ‘bout a hand for the Orange Iguanas?” The audience applauds for the brown-eyed girl with wavy blonde hair and the tall, blue-eyed, blond-haired boy.

“Okay, are you guys ready?” Kirk asks the teams.

“YEAH!” they reply.

“Okay,” Kirk laughs, flinching from the loudness of the response. “Go over and get ready for the Temple Games. Now, in the Temple Games, our teams are competing for…” Kirk retrieves a Pendant of Life from his pouch and holds it up to the camera. “…Pendants of Life. The winning team is gonna need Pendants just like this one to protect them from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple. There are three Temple Games. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #1, please…”

“You got it, Kirk,” Olmec replies. The black lights under Olmec come on and he begins to explain the first game:

“Erik the Red was the first person from Europe to reach Greenland, and established a permanent settlement there with his fellow Vikings. In this game, you will be making a sign to show where that settlement is. When Kirk gives the signal, run around, grab a piece of the sign, come back around and place it on the board. Then run back around, grab another piece and do it again. The first player to place all six pieces or…the player with the most pieces at the end of thirty seconds…wins.”

“Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs,” says Kirk. “Let’s set the clock for thirty seconds!” The clock slams down in the bottom corner of the screen with a loud bang, set for thirty seconds. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

Courtney and Hayley are both a little on the slow side, and both girls have trouble jumping up high enough to get the portions of the sign that, when all six pieces are placed, read “Eriksstown”. Hayley successfully retrieves two, but Courtney has several more by the time the game ends.

“Okay, that’s it!” Kirk says as he rushes back onscreen. “Come on down here, girls—they had a little trouble getting up high enough. It looks like…the Blue Barracudas got two parts of the sign, and…the Orange Iguanas got four pieces of the sign! That means the Orange Iguanas get the half Pendant of Life!” The audience applauds for a few seconds. “The Orange Iguanas are ahead for now, but the Blue Barracudas can still catch up. This next game is worth a half Pendant, too. Olmec, tell us about the second Temple Game…”

Olmec begins:
“When Erik the Red fell off his horse, he took it as a bad omen, and decided against going on the voyage with his son. In this game, you will also be trying to stay on a horse. When Kirk gives the signal, hold on tight, because the horse you are on will start to gallop. Every time your opponent falls off their horse, you will receive a point. The player with the most points at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”

“I hope our players can hold on tight,” says Kirk. “Let’s set the clock for sixty seconds!” The clock appears onscreen, all ready to go. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

Matt and Josh are both incredibly resilient—even though the spotters vigorously rock and jostle the horse-shaped sandbags, neither one falls off in the sixty seconds they’re given for the game. Finally, time expires.

“Okay, that’s it!” Kirk shouts, running back onscreen. “Come over here, you guys. Nice work by the both of you—neither one fell off their horse, so nobody scored any points. That means that both teams get a half Pendant of Life!” The audience applauds briefly. “So now, the Blue Barracudas have a half Pendant; the Orange Iguanas half—have a full Pendant. This final Temple Game will decide the winner. It’s worth one full Pendant of Life. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3…”

Olmec begins to explain the final Temple Game:
“Even though his father did not accompany him, Erik the Red’s son Leif Eriksson sailed on anyway, and ended up discovering North America. When Kirk gives the signal, propel your boat off the dock toward your destination. Once you reach it, climb out and place the Viking flag on the shore. Then climb back in the boat, turn it around and sail back. Be careful not to touch the water, or you’ll have to go back and start again. The first team to step back onto the dock or…the team that’s further along at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”

“This is for the Temple,” Kirk explains. “Let’s put sixty seconds on the clock!” The clock slams down in the bottom corner of the screen. “I’m gonna get out of the way here—on your mark, get set, GO! Bon voyage!”

Both teams remain fairly close throughout this game, and they both place their flags at about the same time. However, the Orange Iguanas have a little trouble turning around, and that’s all the Blue Barracudas need to pull slightly ahead and make it back to the dock with eight seconds left on the clock.

“Okay, that’s it!” exclaims Kirk as he runs back onscreen and steps onto the dock beside the Blue Barracudas. “The Blue Barracudas made it back to the dock first, so that gives them the full Pendant of Life. That means the Blue Barracudas have a Pendant and a half, the Orange Iguanas have one Pendant—so that means the Blue Barracudas are goin’ to the Temple!” Hayley and Matt high-five one another in celebration as the Orange Iguanas clap politely. “Orange Iguanas, you guys did great, too. It was back-and-forth all the way. We’ve got a great gift for you both, and here’s what it is!” They receive a custom-made Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth watch.

As the prize disappears off-screen, Kirk is seen standing beside the winning team. “We’ll see if the Blue Barracudas can make it through Olmec’s Temple and retrieve the Broken Helmet of Erik the Red, right after this!”

The camera pans in on the Temple and zooms in on the Broken Helmet as the title appears onscreen, and we go to a commercial.

Legends: Rebirth-The Broken Helmet of Erik the Red
« Reply #3 on: September 06, 2009, 06:42:59 PM »
We return from the break and see Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the winning team.

“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “Matt and Hayley have proven themselves worthy, and now have the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, Olmec’s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve that Broken Helmet of Erik the Red…”

Olmec begins to explain the layout as the camera gives us a first-person tour of the Temple:
“You could start…by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Bottomless Pit! Swing across the gap, and climb into the Lookout Tower. Focus the telescope to read the ancient print on the far wall, and a door may open into the Geographer’s Study. Find the missing pieces of the map and correctly place them, and pass into the Inventor’s Workshop. Turn the wheel to start the machine, and open the door to the SHRIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room…of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Dungeon, where you could smash through the wall into the Dark Forest—but beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you’ll enter the Chamber…of the Four Elements. Place the elements in the proper order, and you’ll gain entry to the Owl’s Nest! Find the special white owl and attach it to its proper nest, then…race through the Pit, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate. The choices are yours and yours alone!” Olmec pauses. “You won 1½ Pendants in the Temple Games. Who’s going first?”

“I am,” says Hayley, raising her hand.

“Very well, Hayley,” Olmec replies. “When Kirk gives the signal, you’ll race through the Gate into the Temple and make your way toward the Broken Helmet. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but—if you’re caught without a Pendant, you’ll be taken out of the Temple, and it’ll be Matt’s turn to enter and try his luck. Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant. If you can find it and you’re carrying the other half, you’ll receive an extra life. If you can reach the Helmet, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the Gate with the Broken Helmet of Erik the Red in three minutes, and you’ll both be handsomely rewarded—and here’s how!”

• Just for making it this far, they’ll get a game table.
• If they can reach the Broken Helmet within three minutes, they’ll also receive a bicycle from Mongoose.
• And if they can bring the Broken Helmet out of the Temple before three minutes expires, they’ll win a trip to Mexico.

“Viva México!” Kirk says. “Let’s see if we can get ‘em there. Let’s both of you get your mouthpieces in. Let’s set the clock for three minutes!” The clock slams into the bottom corner of the screen with a loud gong.

“Olmec, lower your gate,” Kirk requests. Olmec moans gutturally as the gate is lowered, and the black lights under him go out.

“Are you ready, Hayley?” Kirk asks.

“Yeah,” Hayley says, poised in a starting position.

“She says she’s ready, folks,” Kirk remarks. “On your mark, get set…GO!”

Hayley rushes up the stairs, clutching her team’s only full Pendant. She soon enters the Crypt and pulls all three books, opening the door to the Ledges with her second pull and the door to the Bottomless Pit on her third pull (2:50). Hayley proceeds into the Pit and swings across the gap using the rope. She climbs up and tries the actuator for the door to the Lookout Tower, but it won’t open. She climbs down, completely bypassing the actuator to the Geographer’s Study, to the bottom of the room. “Gotta be careful not to get stuck in the Bottomless Pit,” Kirk narrates. Hayley hits the actuator for the door to the Owl’s Nest, and the door opens (2:35). She scrambles into the room and looks around for a few seconds. “She’s gotta find the white owl,” Kirk explains, “and then attach it to the right nest!” Hayley goes to the back of the room and digs through the stuffed owls for about three seconds before coming up with a stuffed snowy owl (2:24). She brings it to the circle of nests in the center of the room and places it on the one closest to her, but nothing happens. She tries the nest to the right of it, and the door to the Chamber of the Four Elements opens (2:17). “That’s it!” Kirk narrates. “Now she’s headed into the Room of Four Elements!” Hayley enters the room, but is immediately ambushed by the first TEMPLE GUARD (2:11). “Oh, a Temple Guard!” Kirk narrates. “She’s got a Pendant, though!” Hayley hands her Pendant to the Guard, and he moves off-screen. Hayley goes to the back of the room and places the element tiles in the order “fire, water, air, earth”, but nothing happens. “Those elements could go in any order,” Kirk narrates. “She might be there for a while!” Hayley tries switching the air and fire tiles around, but again, nothing happens. She switches around the tile combinations of fire & water, air & earth, earth & fire, and fire & air until the door to the Dark Forest opens (1:39). “That opened a door!” Kirk narrates. Hayley notices the open door, and makes her way into the room. Instead of reaching into the trees, though, she immediately breaks through the wall into the Dungeon—only to be captured by the second TEMPLE GUARD (1:32).

“Oh, Temple Guard! Go, Matt, go!” Kirk urges, and Matt takes off. He dashes up the stairs and enters the Crypt, rushes into the Bottomless Pit, and slides down off the outcropping to the bottom floor of the room (1:19). He enters the Owl’s Nest, maneuvers around the stuffed owls in the room, and enters the Chamber of Four Elements. Matt dashes across the room and climbs into the Dark Forest (1:06). But instead of proceeding through the broken wall into the Dungeon, he reaches into the stage-right tree. Unfortunately, he comes out empty-handed (0:54). He goes over to the stage-left tree and reaches in, and this time, successfully finds a key. “He found a key—will he find the right keyhole?” Kirk narrates. Matt takes the key to the left-side door and inserts it, but nothing happens. He takes the key to the central door, but before trying the keyhole, he picks up the hidden half Pendant stuck on the door (0:42). “Oh, he found the half Pendant!” Kirk narrates. “That could come in handy later on!” Matt sticks the key in the door, but it doesn’t open. He goes over to the last door on the right, but looks very disappointed when this one won’t open either. “Not one of those doors will open!” Kirk narrates. Matt climbs over the foam rocks of the broken-down wall and enters the Dungeon (0:32). He notices the ladder in the room, and begins climbing it. “That ladder leads into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey!” Kirk narrates. Matt reaches the top of the ladder, pushes the actuator, but the door to the Shrine does not open (0:22). With a very pissed look on his face, Matt climbs down the ladder, jumping off when he only has two rungs left. He darts over to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage and begins climbing. “Now he’s headed into the Room of the Secret Password!” Kirk narrates. “He’s got less than twenty seconds left—he’s gonna have to hurry!” Matt enters the room and is immediately ambushed by the third TEMPLE GUARD (0:13). “Oh, there’s the third Temple Guard!” Kirk narrates. “Good thing he found the half Pendant back in the…Bamboo Forest!” Matt hands over the two Pendant halves, and the Temple Guard disappears back into the secret door in the back of the room. Matt retrieves the tablet from the cabinet at the back of the room and takes out his mouthpiece (0:06). “Long live Olmec!” he shouts, but nothing happens. He goes to the stage-right cabinet and opens it. He pulls out the tablet and shouts “Open Sesame!” The door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey opens, but time runs out immediately thereafter.

“Oh, he ran out of time!” Kirk laments. “He tried every shortcut imaginable, but nothing worked except the long way! That’s okay, though—they still get the game table, and their dignity as well. We’ve gotta get out of here, unfortunately, but we’ll see you next time. But just remember: it’s not just Legends—it’s Legends: Rebirth! Buh-bye, everybody!”

Kirk and Hayley wave to the crowd as the credits roll. Matt emerges from the Temple a few seconds before the Stone Stanley logo appears onscreen.

Legends: Rebirth-The Broken Helmet of Erik the Red
« Reply #4 on: September 06, 2009, 06:47:05 PM »

The Broken Helmet of Erik the Red
Season 1, Layout 2
Artifact Locatio
n: The Geographer’s Study
Team: Blue Barracudas (Hayley Sheffield & Matt Kleinberg)
Pendants: 1½
Result: Ran out of time

This episode was pretty shameful. The producers pulled a page out of “The Missing Portrait of Hans Holbein” by forcing a smart, moderately quick team to take the most difficult path imaginable in the Temple. This was an absolutely heinous layout, beckoning the team to have to pass through at least nine rooms before reaching the Broken Helmet. In addition, the team was only given one choice of rooms to enter in the whole run: whether to start in the Crypt or the Ledges.

Hayley certainly wasn’t the fastest contestant to appear on the show, but she wasn’t slow by any means. She was also smart—she knew the direct path to the artifact wasn’t going to work, evident by the fact that she bypassed the actuator for the Geographer’s Study in the Bottomless Pit. She made fairly good progress until she got to the Chamber of the Four Elements, where the first Temple Guard slowed her down a little, as did the time-consuming objective of the room. She was taken out in the Dungeon with 1:32 left.

Matt was quite fast, and he also knew exactly what he was doing. He was very smart by looking for shortcuts to reach the artifact faster. Unfortunately, the producers were one step ahead of him. He tried to open a door—any door—at the back of the Dark Forest, which would allow him to skip at least one room, but none opened. He tried the ladder to the Shrine in the Dungeon, but the door didn’t open. He was forced to go all the way around, and time ran out on him just after the door to the Shrine finally opened. A brutal layout really cost this good team a victory.

Rating: 5.5 out of 10

Notes and Trivia: Kirk does not interview one of the players prior to the Temple Run in this episode. This is true for every episode of Season 1 from now on, but the interviews return in Season 2.

This is the fist of only two times that a Temple Guard appears in the Chamber of the Four Elements.

How exactly would the Temple Guard hide in the Chamber, anyway?  Are there still the packing peanuts on the floor?

No, no peanuts in the Chamber. There's a door on either side of the back of the room where the element tiles go, and the Temple Guards emerge from one of these doors. But this is the only time a Guard appears in the Chamber anyway, so...yeah. :P

The doors will be gone in Season 2, BTW, so it's impossible for a Guard to hide in the Season 2 incarnation of the room.

I was gonna do an episode on Erik the Red! :(

I guess I'll try and come up with something... But you wrote it first, so I guess I'll change mine even though I posted my idea first. Pays to have that guy early in the season, huh? lol
