Top 5 worst runs of each season
« on: October 27, 2011, 07:45:31 PM »
In this topic, you reveal your top 5 worst runs of each season of Legends. I'll start it off with 1 being the worst and 5 being the 5th worst.

Season 1:

1. The Golden Cricket Cage of Khan
2. Blackbeard's Treasure Map
3. John Henry's Lost Hammer
4. The Keys to the Alhambra
5. Elizabeth I's Golden Ship

Honorable mentions:

Wild Bill Hickok and the Dead Man's Hand
*The Lucky Pig of Amelia Earhart
The Golden Cup of Belshazzar
The Treasure Map of Jean Lafitte
*The Oracle Bowl of Delphi
The Paintbrush of Leonardo Da Vinci
The Golden Chains of Zenobia
*The Stolen Arm of Shiva
The Stone Marker of Leif Erikson
The Mask of Shaka Zulu
The Silver Saddle Horn of Hannibal
*Robin Hood and Marian's Ladder

* means that these were runs I was considering for 5th place. I already had the top 4 worst runs planned (I had trouble putting Alhambra and John Henry in their rightful place). I was thinking of the * runs before I remembered Elizabeth I. However, this season was full of pitiful runs.

Season 2:

1. The Lost Lion Tail of Little John
2. The Sacred Ring of Sultan Suleiman
3. The Secret Battle Plan of Nathan Hale
4. The Stone Head of the Evil King
5. The Cracked Crown of the Spanish King

Honorable mentions:

*The Silver Cannonball of Grandy Nanny
*The Walking Stick of Harriet Tubman
*The Lost Love Letter of Captain John Smith
The Bone Necklace of the Blackfeet Chief
The Plumed Headdress of Cosa Rara
*The Crown of Queen Nzinga
The Missing Weather Maps of Charles Lindbergh (mainly for Kim)

* means I considered putting these runs in my top 5 worst runs list, but just missed out. I really wanted to put Grandy Nanny and Harriet Tubman in there, but there wasn't enough room. This season had its fair share of mediocre runs too.

Season 3:

1. The Bifocal Monocle of One-Eyed Jack
2. The Snow Cone of Mount Kilimanjaro
3. The Dried Apple Half of William Tell
4. The Marble Armrest of Xerxes
5. The Lily-Crested Crown of Clovis I

Honorable mentions:

The Thornwood Gavel of Judge Roy Bean (mainly for Kelly)
The Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson
The Bent Shaving Pan of Jedidiah Smith
*The Smashed Printing Plate of Frederick Douglass
The Useless Map of the Chibcha Chieftain
*The Golden Spider Web of Robert the Bruce
The Mysterious Manuscript of Mary Shelley
*The Enormous Feather of the Me Linh
The Broken Trident of Poseidon
The Melted Head of Madame Tussaud
The Lost Whale Bone of Pytheas
The Dried Ear of Corn of Sojourner Truth

You already know about the *.

Well, those are my rankings. How would you rank the top 5 worst runs of each season? Feel free to share. :)

An out of your honorable mentions, these ones I disagree with:

The Golden Cup of Belshazzar
The Golden Chains of Zenobia
The Bone Necklace of the Blackfeet Chief
The Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson
The Useless Map of the Chibcha Chieftain
The Melted Head of Madame Tussaud
The Dried Ear of Corn of Sojourner Truth

Otherwise, the others are decent picks.

Okay, here's my reasoning for including those runs in the honorable mentions:

Belshazzar: the layout was brutal and the players were just below average. I don't know, I might have to watch this run again.

Zenobia: same with Belshazzar. I might have to watch this one again too.

Blackfeet Chief: even though they grabbed the item, this team was WAY too slow, especially Leah. If you handed this layout to Dorothy and Joel from The Enormous Iron Nose Ring of Babe, they would've won easily. This layout was easy and yet they blew it. Very disappointing run.

Henry Hudson: this team was too slow as well. Also, it didn't help that Sherra went up into the King's Storeroom when the Room of the Ancient Warriors was already open. I don't know, maybe I should've included The Lion-Slashed Jacket of Sacagawea in my honorable mentions as well since that layout and outcome is almost identical to this one.

Chibcha Chieftain: the layout is too harsh and the run ended too quickly. The players were pretty good, but they got screwed over by an evil layout. That's why I mentioned it.

Madame Tussaud: why not mention it? I think the million dollar question is what was right with this run? Well one thing that wasn't right was Jennifer's yelling. Also, Nick was slow like a slug. Then, Jennifer kind of failed to carry her own weight in the temple when it was her turn. Thank goodness time ran out when she was entering the Room of the Secret Password. I think my ears would've bled if she shouted out a password.

Sojourner Truth: this team was below average and they had a pretty easy layout too. It's just like The Much-Heralded Helmet of Sir Gawain, except this run had temple guards. Tess really screwed this run up by wasting too much time in the Shrine and Dark Forest. This should've been a win.

Here is what I think:

The Golden Cup of Belshazzar: I don't think the players were below average at all. The frontrunner in this run (Katie I think?) move pretty well until she hit the Room of Harmonic Convergence. Due to the "deadend" in this room, it consumed too much time and forced her all the way up into the Gargoyle Room. And if you think that was bad, it seems like the Treasure Chest was not opening right. And by the time the secondrunner went into the temple, they had no hope. I guess you can include this with the other honorable mentions on account that the outcome was pretty bad, but I felt they got screwed big time during the run.

The Golden Chains of Zenobia: Jennifer moved surprisingly well in the temple, it was Justin that mucked the whole run up. Even then though, the Treasure Chest should've opened and it messed them up. Plus, they had a lengthy layout that forced them to enter almost every room.

The Bone Necklace of the Blackfeet Chief: At least the team made it to the artifact. If the frontrunner moved a little faster, then this could've been the first ever Purple Parrot win. But Brian was at least pretty decent and assembled the monkey in almost record time.

The Upside-Down Compass of Henry Hudson: Okay, I kind of agree with you on this one. The frontrunner wasted too much time in the temple and the secondrunner missed a vital shortcut. Other than that though, the team was forced up the central shaft, so they did surprisingly well.

The Useless Map of the Chibcha Chieftan: I guess you can include this run on the list because it had a bad outcome after all. Then again, I think Taj Mahal Turban should be included before this team. They seemed like a decent team that got screwed with the path they took. Not much really they could've done.

The Melted Head of Madame Tussaud: Okay, I agree with you on this one. This run is very annoying to watch because the frontrunner is stupid and Jennifer screaming is kind of unnecessary. I just think people give Jennifer too much slack because of her screaming. If you watch her partner in the temple, you would wonder why she was screaming.

The Dried Ear of Corn of Sojourner Truth: I haven't seen this run in a while, but I thought this team made it pretty far? Tess messed up though in the Dark Forest and they weren't exactly the fastest team, so I guess you could include them.

For what it's worth, I'll respond to the honorable mentions myself:

The Golden Cup of Belshazzar: I agree with TRJ. I didn't think Katherine and Sean were a below average team. They just had rotten luck with their layout. It was pretty forgettable, but I didn't consider it to be downright cringeworthy.

The Golden Chains of Zenobia: Jennifer was okay, it was Justin who sucked. Meh, nothing much to say about this run.

The Bone Necklace of the Blackfeet Chief: I didn't think this run was terrible at all. It was just that the players were too slow. At least they made it to the artifact, which a lot of the other runs can't say. And Brandon *coughnotBrianTRJcough* did assemble the monkey in pretty quick time.

The Upside Down Compass of Henry Hudson: I could see how it can be considered a subpar run. But I wouldn't call Sherra and Derek terrible players. They were just too slow. Besides, their layout was hard. Being forced all the way up the central shaft is never an easy feature. If this one gets included for honorable mention, then why didn't The Lion Slashed Jacket of Sacajawea get included as well? They are pretty much the same layout, from the slow players to the path. I often think this run gets overlooked at times, even if it wasn't that exciting.

The Useless Map of the Chibcha Chieftain: This run is a classic example of "not a terrible team, but a terrible outcome." Hallie and Jared were great players, they just got screwed with a bad temple guard placement. Though it would have helped if Hallie went into the King Storeroom instead of the Tomb. Not to mention, this team just didn't have enough pendants.

The Melted Head of Madame Tussaud: This temple run pretty much sucked, but I thought Nicholas was completely to blame, not Jennifer. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think Jennifer gets a bad rap for her shouting in the temple. In a way, she had every right to be mad at Nicholas. He was too slow, hesitant, and he just had no idea what he was doing. And I completely disagree with "Jennifer did not pull her weight." How come she made it one room AHEAD of her partner and actually moved at a decent pace? When Lauren and Dana spent the last 30-40 seconds of their run dangling in the pit. Obviously she knew 3 minutes was not enough time to just mosey along in a temple. She may not have been that great of a player, but at least she made SOME progress on her own. Though it still does deserve some honorable mention status because of this run.

The Dried Ear of Corn of Sojourner Truth: I do agree that this run is THE very same path from The Much Heralded Helmet of Sir Gawain. Only this team ran into all 3 temple guard and had 2 pendants. And of course, this team lost. As far as the run itself, it is more so boring than it is bad. Plus, the players were a little too slow for my liking. Whether or not I'd include them for honorable mention, I'm not sure.

Whew, that was long. But yeah, those are my thoughts on the honorable mention. Also, I can't believe I didn't include Lucky Pig on my Top 5 list. That run was just terrible. :|

I can understand where PP319 is going with runs like Belshazzar and Madame Tussaud. I mean the Belshazzar team only traversed six rooms and didn't make much progress in the temple on top of that. But then again, that layout was brutal and its not exactly their fault that the Room of Harmonic Convergence deaded was so time consuming.

As for Madame Tussaud, I can see where he is going with that one too. Personally, I find it more annoying than bad compared to these other runs. Like PPF mentioned though, I don't give Jennifer a hard time for her screaming. Nick was too stupid in the temple and hesitated too much. He wasted too much time pulling on the same vines and not selecting the correct armor. Jennifer at least ran up into the King's Storeroom and almost assembled the monkey in time.

I want to go back to this topic and ask a question...

What do you guys think was the worst temple run of season three - "The Bifocal Monocle of One-Eyed Jack" or "The Snow Cone of Mount Kilimanjaro"?

I have to say "Snow Cone" was the worst temple run of season three after watching these runs over again. Both of those players were bad in the temple and didn't even know what they were doing! Casey was so moronic and it took him three times to complete each objective. Heather got lost in the Dark Forest when she could've plowed through the wall. And both players covered as much rooms as Sabrina did in "Blackbeard's Treasure Map".

I mean "Bifocal Monocle" is also a bad run, but I have to admit that deadend was kind of harsh for the team. Both players were stupid also in the temple like the above run, but at least they covered more rooms (which included a deadend) than the two jokes above.

Bifocal Monocle was worse. At least the Snow Cone kids didn't backtrack and never tried to complete an already completed objective (Thomas pulled a Crypt book and entered the Ancient Warriors dead-end).

After looking at some of my posts, I regret including Belshazzar, Zenobia, Blackfeet Chief, and Henry Hudson in my honorable mentions.

True, I forgot about the detail with Thomas pulling the Crypt books when the objective was already complete and also running into a deadend his partner encountered. I guess in that case I will call "Bifocal Monocle" as the worst temple run of season three and BARELY edges out against "Mt. Kilimajaro".

I would have to say "The Marble Armrest of Xerxes" is the third worst run for season three. Those players put no effort into the temple and only made it through the bottom floor of the temple. Sure, the layout was tough for them. But the Green Monkeys in "The Comet-Embroidered Battle Flag of William the Conqueror" had a much similar layout (including a potential one room away guard) and they still reached the artifact. Both of those Green Monkeys in "Xerxes" were terrible and didn't deserve to go to the temple.

And BTW, don't feel bad about including those episodes. I think we all go back and look at old posts and wonder why we include certain episodes. That's why I like going back to read our old elimination threads and think "What was I thinking?"
