The Plant Specimens of the George Washington Carver
« on: February 01, 2007, 04:32:16 PM »
*the camera zooms in on an ancient lush jungle, the palms are moving away as an elephant is heard. all the palms are gone, showing Olmec*

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple. With your guide? Kirk Fogg!

*Kirk is shown walking down the steps of the Temple*

Olmec: And here he is now.

Kirk: Thank you everyone. Nice to see you. Nice to see you Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The Legend of the Plant Specimens of George Washington Carver.

Kirk: Okay, the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Plant Specimens. Will it be *camera zooms into each team as they cheer & the usual* The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They?re going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec will tell us how they?ll have to do it today.

Olmec: Before you are 2 poles which stretch across the moat. Each team is holding 4 planks. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will place the boards across the poles to make a bridge, and both team players will craw on to it. Then, the rear player will take the last board and pass it to the first player to lay in front, and you?ll both craw forward. You?ll go on like that until both players cross the moat. As soon as the second teammate has cross, they must run over and hit the gong. *Kirk bangs the Silver Snakes? gong*. The first four teams to hit their gong will go on to the next round.

Kirk: Okay, teams are you ready?!

*the teams cheer*

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?!

Olmec: Rock & Roll!

Kirk: Alright, on your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

(Event occurs)

Kirk: That was a great race to the very end, but we do have our four teams. Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes! (applause) The Purple Parrots! (applause) The Green Monkeys! (applause) And the Blue Barracudas! (applause) Red Jaguars and Orange Iguanas gave it a great try. They won't be going away empty-handed - we've got a nice gift for them, and here's what it is.

Kirk: As the quest continues, it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about the Plant Specimens of George Washington Carver. Guys pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: One of the most famous African-Americans in the field of agriculture was George Washington Carver. He was given the nickname ?Plant Doctor? due to his knowledge of plants at a young age. He received a Masters Degree in Botany at Iowa State University, and continued his plant experiments at Tuskegee University in Alabama. One of his most famous experiments were with peanuts and sweet potatoes. Legend has it that with only two plant specimens, one being a peanut and the other a sweet potato, he was able to make over 400 applicants. These applicants include: bleach, cooking oil, paper, coffee, and of course?peanut butter. Carver gained world-wide recognition from this project, and the two specimens, in which Carver worked upon, soon came to rest here in the Temple. Your quest is to find the Plant Specimens of George Washington Carver and them back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, but where are the Specimens?

*Camera shows the Plant Specimens, and zooms out to show its location*

Olmec: The Plant Specimens of George Washington Carver can be found in The Witches Brew.

Kirk: Teams, you are standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about the legend you just herd. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level. If you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec?s Temple. (To Olmec) Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

Olmec: That is correct.

(The Blue Barracudas move down to the second step.)

Olmec: What University  did Carver graduated from?

(The Blue Barracudas ring in.)

Olmec: That is not one of the three choices. The three choice are: Mississippi State, Iowa State, or Florida State?

(The Purple Parrots ring in.)

(The Purple Parrots reaches the second step.)

Olmec: What was Carver?s Major at Iowa State: Medicine, Botany, or Dentistry?

(The Blue Barracudas move down to the bottom step.)

Kirk: We got our first team for the Temple Games. It?s the Blue Barracudas. Who will join them, the Green Monkeys, the Purple Parrots, or Silver Snakes? Next question Olmec.

Olmec: What were the two specimens Carver?

(The Purple Parrots ring in.)

(The Purple Parrots ring in.)

Olmec: Incorrect.

(The Silver Snakes ring in.)

Silver Snakes: South Carolina

Olmec: Incorrect. The correct answer is Alabama.

Olmec: How many applications did Carver get from the two specimens: less than 400, more than 400, or exactly 400?

(The Green Monkeys ring in.)

Green Monkeys: More than 400.

Olmec: That is correct.

(The Green Monkeys move down to the second step.)

Olmec: What sandwich people credited Carver for?

(The Purple Parrots ring in.)

Purple Parrots: Peanut butter sandwich.

Olmec: That is correct.

(The Purple Parrots reaches the bottom step.)

Kirk: These two teams are moving on to the Temple Games. They are the Blue Barracudas and the Purple Parrots. Green Monkeys and Silver Snakes gave it a great effort, and they are not going home empty handed. We got a prize for both of them, and here it is.

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. So let?s here it for the Blue Barracudas: Mitch and Mia. (applause) And the Purple Parrots: Dustin and June. (applause) Go ahead and prepare for the games while I tell them what?s going to happen. (To audience) In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. The winning team will need these pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about temple game number one.

Olmec: George Washington Carver earned a masters degree in Botany, which is the study of plants and flowers. Before you are four plants and on the other side are plant names: Rose, Orchid, Daffodil, and Dandelion. When Kirk gives the signal, stretch out and grab one of flowers, come back and place it on the correct name. Then grab another flower and do it again. The first player to match up all four flowers, or the one that is further along after 60 seconds wins.

Kirk: Alright, flower power. Lets put 60 seconds on the clock? On Your Marks?Get Set?GO!!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Times up! Great job by both players. Lets see: Mia has matched up the Rose and the Daffodil. June matched up the Rose and the Daffodil as well. So, both teams get the .5 Pendant of Life. (Applause) The next game is also worth a .5 pendant, so any team can take the lead. (To Olmec) Olmec what is the next game?

Olmec: In order to experiment with peanuts and sweet potatoes, Carver had dig them out in his garden. In front of you is George Washington Carver?s Garden. Some of the holes in the garden contain peanuts, some of the holes contain sweet potatoes, and some holes contain nothing. When Kirk gives the signal, place your hand in one of the holes. If you find a peanut or sweet potato, drop it into your bin, Then place your hand into another hole. The player with the most peanuts and sweet potatoes in their bin in 60 seconds wins.

Kirk: Dig, dig, dig. Lets put 60 seconds on the clock? On Your Marks?Get Set?GO!!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Times up! That was a close contest. Lets see: Mitch has 3 peanuts and 5 sweet potatoes for a total of 8. Dustin has 3 peanuts and 2 sweet potatoes for a total of 5. The Blue Barracudas win the .5 Pendant of Life. (Applause) Recapping the score, Purple Parrots has a .5 pendant, Blue Barracudas has a full pendant, our final game is worth a full pendant. (To Olmec) Olmec,  tell us about game number 3?

Olmec: People gave George Washington Carver credit for creating peanut butter. In honor of him, you will be making a big peanut butter sandwich. When Kirk gives the signal, both players will grab as much peanut butter as they can, and spread it over the big slice of bread. Once the bread is completely covered grab the other slice of bread and place it on top of the peanut butter. The first team to complete their sandwich wins.

Kirk: There is no time limit, but things will get messy. This is for the Temple. Teams, On Your Mark?Get Set?GO!!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Its Over! This game really got messy, but the Purple Parrots completed the sandwich, giving them the full Pendant of Life. (applause) And just like that, the Purple Parrots has a pendant and a half, and there going to the Temple!! Excellent job by both teams. Blue Barracudas, great effort to the very end. We have a great gift for you and here it is.

*$50 gift card from Toys R? Us*

Kirk: *only Purple Parrots are present* They may be covered with peanut butter, but lets see if the Purple Parrots and make it through Olmec's Temple and retrieve the Plant Specimens of the George Washington Carver right after this.

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. (To Olmec) Olmec, Dustin and June of the Purple Parrots have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter your Temple. Can you give them any clues that can help them retrieve the Plant Specimens?

Olmec: You could start by going upstairs to the Insect Room. Squish the right insect and head down into the Cliffs. You could jump down into the Pit, or Swing across into the Bat?s Balcony. Rip the wings of the giant bat, and you could head down into the Witches Brew, where you can grab the Plant Specimens. Pull the black hat from the caldron, and place it on the correct witch to enter the Room of the Ancient Warriors. Place yourself on the correct armor to gain access into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue to head into the Tri-clops Dome. Roll the correct eye to the back of the monsters head to slide down into the Cargo Hold. Next, smash through the boxes to enter Dracula?s Layer. Spin the dial to turn night into day, but be careful a Temple Guard maybe inside the coffin. If he is, you must give up a pendant. Once the door is open, rush into the Swamp. If you escape, you maybe headed into the SCREAM Room. Open the correct box to unleash the scream of a fallen Temple Guard. Then race through the pit, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the temple gate. The choices are yours and yours alone! You won 1 ? pendants in the temple games. Who?s going first?

June: I AM!!

Olmec: Very well, June. When Kirk gives the signal, you?ll race through the gates into the temple and make your way towards the Plant Specimens. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on, BUT if you?re caught without a pendant, you?ll be taken out of the temple, and it will be Dustin?s turn to enter and try his luck. Hidden Somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your pendant. If you can find it, and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life. If you can reach the Specimens, all the doors of the temple will instantly unlock, and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the Plant Specimens of the George Washington Carver in three minutes, and you?ll both be handsomely rewarded?and here?s how!

*Going into the Temple= Mountain Bikes*
*Reaching the Plant Specimens within 3 minutes= a Digital Camera*
*Making it out of the Temple with the Plant Specimens within 3 minutes= a trip to Spain*

Kirk: A trip to Spain is on the line. Lets see what happens. Team, get your mouth pieces in and June get in position...let's put 3 minutes on the clock...Olmec, lower your gate please.

(Olmec moans while Gate is lowered.)

Kirk: On your marks...Get set...GO!!
