Season 4, Layout 1, Episode 2 - The Forgotten Letters of Plato

*The camera traverses quickly through several plants to simulate a thick rainforest. It eventually makes its way to a large stone head. Its eyes light up and it begins to speak.*

OLMEC: Legends of the Hidden Temple!

*The camera zooms along the first and up to second floor of the temple*

OLMEC: With your guide, Kirk Fogg...

*Camera zips down the Pharaoh's Secret Passage, and busts through the Quicksand Bog wall*

OLMEC: ...and here he is now.

*Kirk arrives from off camera in a Jeep that stops before The Steps of Knowledge, with Layout 1 in the background*

KIRK: Thank you very much. Thank you. Nice to see you. Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we gonna hear about today?

OLMEC: The Legend of the Forgotten Letters of Plato.

KIRK: Oh, the Forgotten Letters of Plato. Well, one of our six teams will have a chance to retrieve the Forgotten Letters. Will it be... the Red Jaguars... or the Blue Barracudas... the Green Monkeys... the Orange Iguanas... the Purple Parrots... or even the Silver Snakes. There gonna have to pass some tough physical and mental tests, and in the end only one team will have the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But, first they must cross the moat and Olmec will tell us how they'll have to do it today.

ROUND 1: THE MOAT

OLMEC: Before you lie several ancient vines which have fallen across the Moat. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will grab on to a rope without touching the water and swing over to the next vine. Then grab the second vine, and swing on it and so on. When you reach the other side, that will be your partner's signal to do the same. If you fall into the water or if you miss a vine, you must go back and begin again. When both players are on the other side, run over and hit the gong. *Kirk hits a gong for clarification* The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round.

KIRK: Alright. Teams, are you ready? *Players cheer in excitement* Olmec, are you ready?

OLMEC: LET'S GET SWINGIN'!!!

KIRK: On you mark... get set... GO!!!

Results:
1st: Orange Iguanas
2nd: Blue Barracudas
3rd: Green Monkeys
4th: Silver Snakes

KIRK: We've got our four teams going on to the Steps of Knowledge. They are: the Orange Iguanas... the Blue Barracudas... the Green Monkeys... and the Silver Snakes. Red Jaguars and Purple Parrots gave it a great effort, too. We've got a nice gift for them, and here's what it is...

ROUND 2: STEPS OF KNOWLEDGE

KIRK: As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Forgotten Letters of Plato. But pay attention teams, 'cause your knowledge of the legend can and will bring you a step closer to the temple.

OLMEC: *tells the story of the legend*

KIRK: Thanks, Olmec. So tell us: Where are the Forgotten Letters?

OLMEC: The Forgotten Letters of Plato can be found in the Labyrinth of Torment.

KIRK: Teams, you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec's gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level. But, if you're wrong or run out of time, I'm gonna give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we're now ready for your first question.

[Questions & Answers]

ROUND 3: TEMPLE GAMES

*Pendant Splits in half again*

KIRK: Welcome back to Legends. Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. So let?s hear it for Gina and Raymond of the Blue Barracudas, and Chelsea and Brian of the Orange Iguanas. Why don't you all get ready for the Temple Games and I'll tell you what's gonna happen here. In the Temple Games, teams are gonna be competing to win: Pendants of Life. The winning team is gonna need those pendants to protect themselves from those dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple. There are three Temple Games and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game Number 1.

TEMPLE GAME 1

OLMEC: Plato wrote many dialogues during his life time of which are still being studied in modern times. Above you are several pages from a dialogue on a shelf. When Kirk gives the signal, one member from each team will climb up to the top of the shelf, grab a page, and bring it down. Then, you will place it in your bin and then your partner with do the same. Which ever team brings down all seven pages, or the team who?s further along at the end of 60 seconds wins.

KIRK: Alright. Let's put 60 seconds on the clock.

*Clock is set for 60 seconds*

KIRK: On your mark... Get set... GO!

Results: Tie (2-2)

KIRK: Okay, let's see what we?ve got here. The Blue Barracudas got 1, 2 pages and the Orange Iguanas got 1, 2 pages. So, that gives the them both the Half-Pendant of life. Next, we go to our next game. It's also worth a Half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game Number 2.

TEMPLE GAME 2

OLMEC: In the time of Ancient Greece, people often used animals to transport their writings, which is just what you are going to do. When Kirk gives the signal, the horse will start to gallop. Hold on tight. If you fall off, you will lose a point. Each point represents one writing you have. Whoever still has points remaining, or whoever still has the most points at the end of 60 seconds wins.

KIRK: The Orange Iguanas can catch up here. So why don't we find out by putting 60 seconds up on the clock? *Clock is set for 60 seconds* On your mark... Get set... GO!

Result: Blue Barracudas (2-1)

KIRK: That's it. Let's see the results. The Orange Iguanas managed to save 1 writing, and the Blue Barracudas had 2, giving them another Half-Pendant of Life. The score is now 1 to 0. Now, we go to our third, and final, game. It's worth a Full Pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.

TEMPLE GAME 3

OLMEC: Plato was a famous writer, and writers of that time began using pens to write with. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will run around, jump up, and grab a pen. Then you will toss it in your bin. Whoever has the most pens in their bin at the end of 60 seconds wins.

KIRK: This one is for the Temple. Let's put 60 seconds on the clock. *Clock is set for 60 seconds* On your mark... Get set... GO!

Results: Blue Barracuda (4-3)

KIRK: Time's up. Let's check this out. The Blue Barracudas got 1, 2, 3, 4 pens. And the Orange Iguanas got 1, 2, 3 pens. So... that gives the Blue Barracudas the Full Pendant of Life, giving the Blue Barracudas 2 Pendants, and the Orange Iguanas only a half. The Blue Barracudas are going to the Temple.

*Audience cheers*

KIRK: Alright. Orange Iguanas gave it a gallant effort too. We've got a great gift for them, and here's what it is.

[Popular New Cell Phone]

KIRK: We're gonna see if Gina and Raymond of the Purple Parrots can make it through Olmec's Temple, and retrieve the Forgotten Letters of Plato. And we're gonna see it right after this.

*Camera pans along the audience before stopping at Olmec and zooming in quickly*

*Two Half-Pendants come together*

FINAL ROUND: OLMEC'S TEMPLE

*Pendant shatters*

KIRK: Welcome back to Legends. Gina and Raymond have proven themselves worthy, and have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But first, Olmec wants to give them some information that'll help them retrieve the Forgotten Letters of Plato.

OLMEC: You could start by running up the stairs into the Crypt. Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass down the stairway, and across the Bridge of Fate. Next, you could choose to head up into the Eternal Light Room. Hit each light switches in the correct sequence, and that'll lead you into the Chamber of the Sacred Markers. Match the symbols on the right to the rules on the left, and pass into the King's Storeroom. Smash the clay pots to find the key, that'll allow you to enter the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue there and you may be headed for the Room of Mystical Keys. Find the 2 keys in the holes and place them in their correct key holders to open the door to the Pharaoh's Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel into the Quicksand Bog, where you could smash through to the Dark Forest. But beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees. Find the key in the trees, and you will enter the Labyrinth of Torment. Find the correct door switch hidden somewhere in the maze, and you will gain entry to the Tomb of the Headless Kings. Pull the vines to release their bones, and pass the missing skull to its proper king. Then, race through the Vine Jungle, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate. The choices are yours and yours alone. You won Two Pendants in the Temple Games. Who's going first?

RAYMOND: I am!

OLMEC: Very well, Raymond! When Kirk gives the signal you'll race through the gates, into the Temple, and make your way toward the Forgotten Letters. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards, assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on. But, if you're caught without a pendant, you will be taken out of the Temple, and it will be Gina's turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the Letters, all of the doors in the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the Forgotten Letters of Plato in three minutes and you will both be handsomely rewarded, and here's how:

[Zune, Gaming Console with 3 Games, Vacation to Cancun, Mexico]

KIRK: Okay let's see if we can get them to Cancun. Let's get them into position. Olmec, lower your gate, please.

OLMEC: *lowers gate*

KIRK: Let's put three minutes on the clock. *Clock gets set for 3:00*. On your mark... Get set... GO!!!

Name of Artifact: The Forgotten Letters of Plato
Season: 4
Layout: 1
Result: Out of Time
Time Remaining: ---
Team: Blue Barracudas
Pendants Won: 2
Location of Artifact: The Labyrinth of Torment

This episode had a very cruel set up. The first contestant start by going up, but on the Bridge of Fate, neither door opened, forcing him to go down. She didn?t meet his first Temple Guard, until he got to the Tomb. Then, he was forced to go up twice, before being taken out in the King?s Storeroom. With about 55 seconds left, his partner made a mad dash to the Storeroom, and managed to find and insert the key correctly, running out of time at that second.

KIRK: Oh, they ran outta time. Oh, but they still get the Zune. They did a great job. But, we gotta get outta here. We'll see you again next time for another great Legend of... the Hidden Temple. Buh-bye.
