Legends: Wild Jungle

Season 1, Layout 2, Episode 8

(the camera zooms in on an ancient lush jungle, the palms are moving away as an elephant is heard. all the palms are gone, showing Olmec)

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle

(The camera shifts to the temple and its rooms)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now.

(Kirk is seen coming down the steps of the temple)

Kirk: Thank you, thank you! It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Block from the Great Wall of China.

Kirk: Ahh, the Block of the Great Wall of China. Well, the legend is set and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the block. Will it be The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They?re going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and here's how they're gonna have to do it today.

Halfway across the moat is a large net, and a vine before you. You are going to reach out for the vine and use it to swing across and hang on to the net. Then, you'll climb over and drop down into the water, and swim to the shore. Then your partner will do the same. When you're done, run over and hit the gong! (Kirk hits the Red Jaguras' gong) The first four teams to hit their gongs go on to the next round...are you ready?

Teams: Yeeaaahhh!!!!

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?

Olmec: Let's rock!

Kirk: On your mark, get set... GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: That's it! We've got our four teams! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Blue Barracudas and the Orange Iguanas! And the Purple Parrots and the Silver Snakes! Red Jaguars and Green Monkeys gave it a great effort too. They will not be going away empty handed though, here's what we have for them:

Kirk: As we continue our quest, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Great Wall of China. But, you'll need to pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: One of the greatest mounuments and wonders of the world is the Great Wall of China. It was built during the rule of the Dragon King and today stretches from one end of the Chinese border to the other end in many sections of rock slab. With the Dragon King and his slave-working ways overpowering the people of Ancient China, all men had to go and help with the building. Legend has it, that a woman had just married near the future site of the Great Wall and had planned to live happily with her husband. Unfortunetely, the Dragon King's soldiers dragged him away.

Woman: Please! No! Don't take him away!

Soldier: Sorry, miss, it is our duty to take him to the building site, wehre he will dwell for years under our control to build our next great monument!

Woman: No!

Olmec: So he did have to go away. After a year without her husband, she had pretty much moved on, until one day when she remembered her husband dearly. She did not care, and ran the many miles right up to the place where she knew that her spouse would be working. Unfortunetely, a soldier told her that he had perished. She went home, crying, and legend has it, that the wall collasped over his buried body. One of the destroyed blocks ended up in the temple. Your quest is to bring it back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec,. But tell us: where is the block?

(Camera shows the block, and zooms out to show its location)

Olmec: The block can be found in the Spider's Lair.

Kirk: Okay! Now, teams, you are standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about the legend you just heard. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're first, your step will light up.

(Silver stomps down first)

Then you're gonna answer the question. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level. If you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

1. The Great Wall of China was built during the rule of...
The Dragon King
The emperor Wudi
King Tutankhamen of Egypt

2. The wall stretched from what two points?
The two ends of Asia
The two ends of the Chinese Border
The two ends of the city of Chungking

3. Who had to go help with the building?
All soldiers
All men
All rulers

4. According to the legend, where did the woman marry?
At the site of the Great Wall
In a secret chamber underground
At the banks of the Yangtze River

5. Who took the husband away?
The Dragon King
The woman
A soldier

6. How long had it been before the woman went out to search for her husband?
A month
A year

Kirk: Here we go! We've got our two teams! And they are the Blue Barracudas and the Silver Snakes! The Orange Iguanas and the Purple Parrots gave it a great effort too. We got a cool prize for both of them, and here it is.

(Prizes are announced)

Kirk: These two teams will play for the right to enter Olmec's Temple, and they're gonna do it right after this!

(Pendant Splits)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let's get to know our team players. On the Blue Barracudas, we have William. He likes to play basketball and wants to become an L.A. Lakers Player. And his partner Jasmine likes to listen to music and will hang out with her frineds whenever she has time! Let's hear it for the Blue Barracudas!

(Applause)

Kirk: And on the Silver Snakes we have Graham. He likes baseball and wants to become a star in an action movie! And his partner Kathy likes to play soccer and wants to become USA's first woman president! Oohh! Let's hear it for the Silver Snakes!

(Applause)

Kirk: Alright now, guys, stay here, and grils go get ready for your game there.(points) Now this is what's going to happen: in the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. (Kirk holds up a pendant). They need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games. And this is temple game number one:

The Great Wall of China was of a grand size, and needed tons of blocks to build. Now you're going to have to build a Great Wall, but you'll have to get the blocks first! Now, when I say go, you're gonna race out onto that platform and grab as many blocks as you can at once and bring them back here and pop them in your baskets, right here (points). But beware of the swinging boulder! If it hits you, you gotta drop your blocks and go back and start again. The team with the most blocks at the end of 60 seconds wins.

Time to build a great wall! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, go!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Okay, we got a little cpunting to do here. Let's see, the Blue Barracudas got 3, 6, 9, 12, 14 blocks! The Silver Snakes got 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 blocks! So that means they get the half pendant of life! The next game is also worth a half pendant, and here it is!

Building the Great Wall took many, many days of hard work. Now we're gonna simulate that, but not so much hard work. In front of you stands a large disc. Now, when I say go, you have to race up and spin that disk by walking on it. Each full, 360-degree turn is one day of work. The days will be put on your counter, there. The team that's worked the most days at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Alright, let's put sixty seconds on the clock.

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Okay! Stop spinning, there, I know, you're prob'ly a little dizzy. Okay, there. Let's see, the Blue Barracudas got 15 days, and the Silver Snakes only got 11. So that means the Blue Barracudas get the half pendant! The next game is worth a full pendant, and here it is:

The woman had to look high and low, all over the place to find her husband. Now this final game will help you "find" your way to the temple if you win it! Okay, now, you and your partner are standing in front of some four large steps. When I say go, you're gonna climb up these steps with the rope, helping your partner up each one. The first team to reach the top wins!

Kirk: Alright, on your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Ohhhh! The Blue Barracudas got up first, so that gives them the full pendant of life! That means they now have one-and-a-half pendants. The Silver Snakes only got half a pendant of life, the Blue Barracudas are going to the temple!

(Cheers)

Don't worry, Silver Snakes, you guys did a good job! You're gonna take home a cool prize:

(Prizes are announced)

The Blue Barracudas are going to Olmec's temple and they're gonna do it...right after this!

(camera pans to the actuator of the Vine Drop-Shrine door)

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. The Blue Barracudas have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But before we get started, Olmec will give us some information on how to retrieve the block.

Olmec: You could start by running through the Mining Chamber and climbing down into the Pit of Despair. Crawl through the pit, then race into the Chameleon Chamber. Change the color of the right chameleon and you could choose to go up the Lion's Lair, or into the Spider's Lair. If you escape, you may have a chance to enter the Sacred Safari. Find the right key to go upstairs, or plough through the wall and into the Lion Cage. Ride the cage up into the Viper's Nest and pull the snakes from the jars to open the doors to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue and you may be headed for the Vine Drop. Next, race up to the Mouth of the Jaguar. Put the fangs in the mouth and jump back into the Pit. Pass through the Room of the Three Gargoyles, race down the stairs and back through the temple gates. The choices are yours and yours alone. Good luck!

Kirk: Okay, you guys won one and a half pendants in the temple games, and here they are. Now, who's going first?

William: I am!

Kirk: Okay, now, when I say go, you will race through the gates into the temple and you'll make your way to the Spider's Lair...hopefully. But be careful ? the Temple has many locked doors and dead ends. Also hidden in the Temple there are also Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. If you enter one of those rooms, a Temple Guard will jump out and grab you. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Jasmine's turn to enter and try her luck. Now you won one-and-a-half pendants. Hidden inside the temple is the otehr half of your pendant. If you find it, and you're carrying the otehr half, you will earn an extra life. If you can reach the block, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. You?ll have three minutes, and for your efforts you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!

(Prizes announced)

Kirk: Okay, let's get in position! Put your mouthpieces! Let's put three minutes on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GOO!!!

(William races into the Mining Chamber and climbs into the Pit of Desair with a whopping 2:51 remaining)

(He quickly slides down into the Chameleon Chamber, green balls sliding down behind him.  He lights up the red chameleon, but is captured by a temple guard!)

(He calmly hands him a pendant and completes the room with 2:39 remaining)

(He climbs up into the Lion's Lair, and is taken out with a whole 2:31 left!)

(Jasmine races through the gates into the Mining Chmaber and the Pit of Despair. She slowly climbs and tries the Lion's Lair's actuator. It works and she enters with 2:19 left. While doing this she went clear past the half pendant on the actuator to the Mouth of the Jaguar!)

(She slowly but surely places both heads on their respective bodies and opens the doors to the Mouth of the Jaguar and the Vine Drop. She enters the latter room with 1:55 left)

(She tries all the vines, but gives up and opens the door into the Shrine instead. She puts together the statue and opens the door into the Sacred Safari with 1:31 left!)

(She climbs into the Sacred Safari and finds the key! The door to the Spider's Lair opens!)

(She has a bit of a problem climbing into it, but jumps into the lair and wades through the swamp and grabs the Block with 1:07 left!)

(She quickly moves through the swampy Spider's Lair and enters the Chameleon Chamber. She then climbs up into the Pit of Despair with 0:47 left!)

(She loses her footing a little in the balls but crawls through the ledges of the Mining Chamber, sliding to the floor with 0:32 left! She gets up and races through the gates for a victory with 0:29 left!

Kirk: She made it! She got the Block of the Great Wall! They got it all folks! They did it! They sure did! I wanna stay and I bet they do, and you do too, but I gotta go, so check us out next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle style! Buh-bye!

(Credits scroll as the camera pans to the small pile of green balls collected at the opening from the Chameleon Chamber to the Pit of Despair)

Olmec: Hmmmmmm....

Not really, I'm running out of ideas for Season Two. Right now, maybe.

9.9? Seriously? Thanks man!

As promised, here is the diagram/summary:

(The diagram route color is a little strange, 'cause I usually use my XP computer's paint to do this, but now I'm using my Vista com's Paint to draw it, nevertheless...)

Artifact Name: The Block from the Great Wall of China
Location: The Tropical Forest
Season: 1
Layout: 2
Result: Won!
Time Remaining: 0:29

Diagram:

Summary:

William was a very speedy frontrunner. It took him only 10 seconds to get from the Mining Chamber to the door of the Chameleon Chamber in the Pit of Despair. But after lighting up the red colored chameleon, he was captured. He calmly handed the guard his pendant and carried on, opening up the Lion's Lair with 2:39 left, but is caught there with 2:31 left. Jasmine came in and she wasn't that fast, but she was smart in the fact that she tried the direct door to the Lion's Lair. She then completes it and races through the Vine Drop into the Shrine. After completing that, she went down to the Sacred Safari and entered the Tropical Forest, grabbing the block with more than a minute left. She took the bottom floor back to the gates, but went a little slowly. However, she made it out with almost half a minute to spare!
