The Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan
« on: May 27, 2008, 08:01:19 PM »
(We zoom in to a jungle that appears to be covered in a slightly volcanic ground. Soon we see Olmec, who is a bit more red than usual.)
OLMEC: Legends of the Hidden Temple! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!
(Kirk comes in from a pretend volcano.)
KIRK: Thank you! Nice to see you. Thank you Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?
OLMEC: The Legend of the Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan.
KIRK: Oh, the Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan. Well one of our six teams will have a chance to retrieve the Feather-Tipped Hat. Will it be the Red Jaguars, the Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys, the Orange Iguanas, the Purple Parrots, or the Silver Snakes? They?re going to have to pass some tough physical and mental tests, but in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec?s going to tell us how they will do it today.
OLMEC: In the moat are three obelisks. There are two orbs on top of each obelisk. When Kirk gives the signal, the first player must jump into the moat and grab an orb and place it inside the obelisk before he or she can move onto the next obelisk. Once the first player reaches the other side, the second player repeats for the other orbs. Once the second player makes it across, run over and hit the gong.
(Kirk hits the Red Jaguars? gong to demonstrate.)
OLMEC: The first four teams to hit their gongs will go onto the next round!
KIRK: Okay teams, are you ready?
TEAMS: YEAH!!!
KIRK: And how about you, Olmec?
OLMEC: Oh?yeah!!!
KIRK: Okay, teams! On your mark, get set, GO!!!
(All six teams are in the moat.)
KIRK: There they go, into the moat! Here they have to grab the obelisks, who will win?
(The Purple Parrots? second person is already in the moat.)
KIRK: Wow, the Purple Parrots seem fast today!
(The Purple Parrots have already rung their gong.)
KIRK: WOW!
(The Blue Barracudas? second player?s third orb has fallen into the water. She goes back in and grabs the orb, places it in the obelisk, and hits her gong. The Green Monkeys and the Red Jaguars then hit their gongs.)
KIRK: That?s it! Going onto the Steps of Knowledge are the Red Jaguars! And the Blue Barracudas! And the Green Monkeys! And the Purple Parrots! The Orange Iguanas and the Silver Snakes did a great job too, but they?re not going home empty handed, here?s what they?re receiving!

KIRK: As the quest continues, it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about the Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan. But before we get started, pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend could bring you one step closer to Olmec?s temple.
OLMEC: One of the greatest mythological people was Peter Pan. He was one of the few who new about the land of Neverland, a place of dreams and happiness. One night Peter was spotted and he lost his shadow. While trying to retrieve it he woke up a young woman by the name of Wendy Darling. He learned that she knows a lot of bedtime stories and asked her to become a member of his gang, the Lost Boys.
PETER: Hey, would you come to Neverland and become a member of my gang called the Lost Boys?
WENDY: Why sure, Peter? How do you get to Neverland?
PETER: You just have to fly!
OLMEC: Peter used his fairy Tinker Bell to allow Wendy and her two brothers, John and Michael, to fly. They eventually made it to Neverland and defeated the evil Captain Hook. Wendy and her two brothers then went back to England. Peter Pan?s Feather-Tipped Hat eventually made it to the temple!
KIRK: Thanks Olmec, so where is the hat?
OLMEC: The Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan can be found in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey!
KIRK: Okay teams, you are now standing on the steps of knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you several questions about today?s legend. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. Try stomping on it!
(The Blue Barracudas stomp down on their marking.)
KIRK: Okay, Blue Barracudas, since you rang in first, you would be able to answer. If you?re right, you move down a step. If you?re wrong or run out if time, I?m going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to answer three questions correctly and make it to the bottom step will be one step closer to Olmec?s temple. Olmec, we are now ready for question one.
OLMEC: How did Peter?s gang get to Neverland? By boat, by flying, or by-
(Purple Parrots ring in.)
PARROTS: By flying?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.)
OLMEC: What was the name of the pirate that Peter Pan and his gang defeated? Captain Hook, Captain Shook, of Captain Stick?
(Green Monkeys ring in.)
MONKEYS: Captain Hook?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.)
OLMEC: One of Wendy?s brothers was named John. What is her other brother?s name? Is it Robin Hood, Michael, or Robin Hood and Marian?s Silk Ladder?
(Purple Parrots ring in.)
PARROTS: Michael?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.)
OLMEC: What was on the tip of Peter Pan?s hat? A feather, a beak, or a leaf?
(Purple Parrots ring in.)
PARROTS: A feather?
OLMEC: That is correct!
KIRK: The Purple Parrots are going to the Temple Games! Let?s see what team will have to compete against these mighty Purple Parrots for the right to enter Olmec?s temple. Next question, Olmec.
OLMEC: What was the name of the land Peter Pan and his gang went to? Everland, Land of Never, or Neverland?
(Green Monkeys ring in.)
MONKEYS: Neverland?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.)
OLMEC: What was the name of Peter Pan?s gang? The Neverland Boys, the Lost Boys, or the Robin Hood and Marian?s Silk Ladder club?
(Red Jaguars ring in.)
JAGUARS: The Lost Boys?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.
OLMEC: What was the name of Peter Pan?s fairy? Tinker Bell, Tinker Toy, or Benjamin Franklin?
(Blue Barracudas ring in.)
BARRACUDAS: Tinker Bell?
OLMEC: That is correct.
(They move down a step.)
OLMEC: Where did Wendy and her two brothers live? The United States, England, or the Hidden Temple?
(Green Monkeys ring in.)
MONKEYS: England?
OLMEC: That is correct.
KIRK: The Green Monkeys and the Purple Parrots are going on to the Temple Games!!! Red Jaguars and Blue Barracudas, come on down, we have a very special gift for you, straight from our producers.
DEE: It?s $1,000 worth of General Mills cereals! General Mills has great cereals such as Cookie Crisp, Cocoa Puffs, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch! Try our delicious cereals today!

KIRK: Welcome back to Legends. Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let?s find out a little about our teams. On the Green Monkeys, we have Harrah, at age 13! She likes to paint pictures and sketch ideas for cartoons. And we have James, at age 12. He likes to go to gymnastics and write stories. Let?s hear it for the Green Monkeys! And on the Purple Parrots, we have Sheelah, at age 12. She likes to play soccer and she likes the color purple. And we have Hunter at age 14. He likes to lift 8-pound weights and likes bananas. Let?s hear it for the Purple Parrots! These two teams are competing for pendants of life. They?re going to need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through Olmec?s temple. There are three temple games. Olmec, tell us about the first one.
OLMEC: Peter Pan and his gang had to fly to Neverland. Now you will pretend to fly to Neverland. When Kirk gives the signal, Harrah and Sheelah will swing across ten ropes over the water to get to the other side, which is Neverland. Once at the other side, run over and hit the gong. The first team to ring their gong or the team closest to their gong at the end of sixty seconds wins.
KIRK: Okay, teams! On your mark, get set, go!
(The Green Monkeys ring their gong with just 1 second remaining.)
KIRK: Okay, this ? pendant goes to the Green Monkeys, congratulations on that. Olmec, tell us about the next temple game.
OLMEC: Peter Pan and his gang defeated Captain Hook, who was a pirate. Pirates usually have swords. Each of you are holding a sword. When Kirk gives the signal, James and Hunter will start fighting with the sword. To score a hit, the player must hit the other player?s body with their sword. You can block hits with your sword. The first player to score five hits, or the player who has scored the most hits by the end of 60 seconds wins.
KIRK: Alright teams, it?s time for some swordplay? Get ready, get set , go!
(The Green Monkeys score their fifth hit with 1 second left.)
KIRK: Oh, another 1 second temple game victory by the Green Monkeys! They receive another ? pendant of life! Now let?s move onto the third and final game.
OLMEC: When Peter Pan lost his shadow, Wendy helped him find it. Now, Peter Pan has lost his shadow again, this time in this maze. This has caused the maze to turn dark. Scattered throughout the maze are 8 letters, each of Peter Pan?s name. When Kirk gives the signal, both players on each team will enter the maze searching for letters of Peter Pan?s name. They must then bring the letters to the end of the maze and put them on the wall at the end of the maze so that they spell out PETER PAN. The first team to get all 8 letters on their wall in the correct order, or the first team to get the most letters on their wall at the end of 60 seconds wins.
KIRK: Okay teams, on your marks, get set, go!
(The Green Monkeys and the Purple Parrots each got 4 letters on the wall before time ran out.
KIRK: Time?s up! The Green Monkeys and the Purple Parrots each had 4 letters on their walls so they each get a full pendant, which makes the final score: The Green Monkeys: 2, the Purple Parrots: 1. The Green Monkeys are going to the temple! The Purple Parrots aren?t going home empty-handed, here?s what they won!
DEE: They?ve won a 6-foot plasma screen TV! A 6-foot plasma screen TV by Panasonic, designed to make TV watching easier and more fun!
KIRK: These extremely athletic Green Monkeys are gonna see if they can retrieve the Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan and they?re gonna do it right after this!

KIRK: Welcome back to Legends. The Green Monkeys have proven themselves worthy enough to enter Olmec?s temple. But before we get started, would you give the Green Monkeys any clues on how to retrieve the Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan?

OLMEC: You could start by heading up into the Room of the Sacred Towers. Find the right combination by observing the towers and you may be headed into the Lava Pit! Break open the lava slabs and search for the actuator. Place it on the correct door and you may enter the Haunted Graveyard! Rip the tombstones out of the ground and place them in their correct holes to gain entry to the Artist?s Studio! Paint the picture using your team?s color and enter the Math Room. Solve the five sacred math problems to activate the powers of the five magical crystals which will open the door to the Shriiine of the Siillver Moonkkeey, where you could grab the Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan! Assemble the statue to gain entry to the Communication System! Connect the telephones to their closest holes and climb down into the Devil?s Lair! Attach the correct pair of horns to the devil and bust through the rock wall into the Blacksmith?s Workshop! Smith an item and place it on the anvil, but be careful! One of the items could be possessed by the spirit of a temple guard! Then you might gain entry to the Deserted Island! Break all of the palm trees on the island to unlock the door to the Log Cabin! Fix the holes in the walls of the cabin by finding pieces of wood on the ground. Then, race through the pit, climb through the Volcano, race down the stairs and back through the temple gate! The choices are yours and yours alone! You won 2 pendants in the Temple Games. Who?s going first?
HARRAH: I am!
OLMEC: Very well, Harrah! When Kirk gives the signal, you?ll enter the temple and make your way towards the Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you?re caught without a pendant, you?ll be taken out of the temple and it will be James?s turn to try his luck. If you can reach the artifact, all the doors in the temple will instantly unlock, and the temple guards will vanish. Return to the gates with the Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan within three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded. And here?s how!
DEE: For just getting into the temple, you?re both going to get 2 movie tickets to the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian! Take one other person with you to see one of the world?s newest movies! Grab the Feather-Tipped Hat within 3 minutes and you?ll also get a $1,000 dollar gift card at Domino?s pizza! Domino?s pizza is the best in the world and is considered to make your taste buds water! If you can bring the Feather-Tipped Hat out of the temple before your 3 minutes is up, you?ll both be going to Schlitterbahn Water Park in beautiful New Braunfels, Texas! Enjoy beautiful water rides such as the Wave Pool, the Wolf Pack, and their most famous ride of all, the Master Blaster!
KIRK: Oh, Schlitterbahn Water Park! I?ve been there and I love it! Let?s see if we can get them there. Okay, let?s put 3 minutes on the clock. And Olmec, lower your gate please.
OLMEC: Mmmmmmmmmmmm.
KIRK: All right, on your mark, get set, go!
(Harrah enters the temple via the Volcano and eventually enters the Lava Pit with 2:47 remaining.)
KIRK: She?s in the hot hot hot Lava Pit! Let?s make sure she doesn?t get burnt!
(She finds the actuator and uses it on the door to the Log Cabin with 2:35 remaining. But there is a Temple Guard in the Log Cabin!)
KIRK: Oh, Temple Guard! She?s gonna have to give up a half pendant of life here!
(She eventually fixes up the log cabin and enters the Artist?s Studio with 2:09 remaining.)
KIRK: Oh, the Artist?s Studio! She?s gonna have to find the paintbrush and the green paint here and paint the picture!
(She paints the picture green and enters the Haunted Graveyard with 1:48 remaining.)
KIRK: Oh, I remember this room! Kayleen almost lost in the previous episode because of this room!
(She places the gravestones in the correct places and enters the Math Room with 1:27 remaining.)
KIRK: Oh, the Math Room! Pretty much the only mental room in the temple! She?s gonna have to solve the 5 math problems here!)
(She solves the 5 math problems and enters the Deserted Island with 1:05 remaining.)
KIRK: This is probably the easiest room in the temple other than actuator rooms! All she has to do is cut down 10 palm trees!
(She cuts down the 10 palm trees and enters the Blacksmith?s Workshop with 53 seconds remaining.)
KIRK: She?s just one room away! All she has to do is put the correct item on the anvil and she might win!
(She finds the hammer and hammers a bar into a sword, then places it on the anvil, but it?s the wrong one and it?s also possessed by a temple spirit!)
KIRK: Oh! Temple Spirit! She?s kicked out, it?s James?s turn now!
(James climbs through the volcano and enters the Lava Pit with 0:34 remaining.)
KIRK: Will they reach the hat? Will they? Will they?
(James enters the Log Cabin with 0:29 remaining and climbs up the ladder through the Artist?s Studio and the Haunted Graveyard. He quickly enters the Math Room and enters the Deserted Island, but we?re out of time!)
KIRK: Oh, so close! They were only a few rooms away, but they still get the movie tickets. We all had a great time, see you next time on another Legends of the Hidden Temple! Bye bye!

Fan Summary:

Season: 5
Layout: karmew32
Name of Artifact: The Feather-Tipped Hat of Peter Pan
Result: Failed acquisition
Time left: N/A
Team: Green Monkeys
Pendants won: 2
Location of Artifact: The Shrine of the Silver Monkey
Temple Diagram:

Temple Run Summary: This is an example of the team losing because of the placement of the Temple Guards. The temple layout made her ascend up the entire central shaft from the Log Cabin, where there was a Temple Guard, to the Haunted Graveyard. Fortunately the next two rooms (The Math Room and the Deserted Island) had objectives that were easier than most of the rest of the temple. However, Harrah got taken out in the Blacksmith?s Workshop with 42 seconds remaining and that pretty much erased the team?s chance of victory and even reaching the hat. James was fairly quick through the temple, however time ran out as he was getting off the ladder from the Math Room to the Deserted Island. If Harrah had smithed the correct item, this probably could?ve been a solo victory.

Let me get this straight... you're criticizing fan fiction for being fiction?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I'm just giving ideas on how the fanfic could be more, um, true to the show it mimics, and therefore more exciting to read as a MORE outstanding fanfic than it was before!!!

Edit: Also, since when did it become ILLEGAL to offer up collective criticism on this Forum?

There's a difference between constructive criticism and telling someone (nay, everyone) how fanfics should be written.  "How's about let's keep that door shut in future fanfics" definitely seems to step over that line.

I'm all for fanfictions.  Most fanfiction of any type is terrible, but this fandom's quality seems to be relatively high.  (Of course, creative leeway is limited, but that's besides the point.)
