Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle

(The camera shifts to the temple and its rooms)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now.

(Kirk is seen coming down the steps of the temple)

Kirk: Thank you, thank you! It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the Cathode Ray-Tube of J.J. Thomson.

Kirk: Oooh, the Cathode Ray-Tube of J.J. Thomson. well, the legend is set and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve that ray-tube. Will it be The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They're going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec's temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and here's how they're gonna have to do it today.

Across the moat lie six soapy platforms. When I say go, the first partner will slide across the platform to the other side. However, this is a very slippery surface, so if you drop into the water, you must start again. When both partners have crossed, run over and hit the gong! (Kirk hits the Red Jaguras' gong) The first four teams to hit their gongs go on to the next round...are you ready?

Teams: Yeeaaahhh!!!!

Kirk: Olmec are you ready?

Olmec: Let's rock 'n' roll!

Kirk: All right then! On your marks, get set... GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: That's it! We've got our four teams! Going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Blue Barracudas and the Green Monkeys! And the Orange Iguanas and the Purple Parrots! Red Jaguars and Silver Snakes gave it a great effort too. They will not be going away empty handed though, here's what we have for them:

Kirk: As we continue our quest, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the J.J. Thomson. But teams, pay close attention because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to the Temple.

Olmec: One of the most famous and important figures in the history of the Atomic Theory was Sir Joseph John Thomson, better known as "J.J.". Not only creating the plum pudding atomic model, he also discovered the presence of electrons in atoms. He ran a total of three long experiments up till 1897. One of them featured the signature cathode-ray tube that we remember him by today. His discoveries led him to become a Nobel-Prize winner in 1906, after making the discovery of electrons and making of the plum pudding model. Legend has it, after making the plum pudding model, he made the desert even more popular! After his death in 1940, however, his Cathode Ray-Tube ended up in the temple. You quest is to bring it back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec. But please tell us: where is this ray tube?

(Camera shows the tip of the ray tube, then zooms out to show the entire tube and its location)

Olmec: The Cathode Ray-Tube of J.J. Thomson can be found.....in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey.

Kirk: Okay! Teams, you are standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about the legend you just heard. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're first, your step will light up.

(Purple stomps down first)

Then you've got to answer the question. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. If you're wrong or run out of time, I'm going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for your first question.

Kirk: These two teams will play for the right to enter Olmec's Temple, and they're gonna do it right after this!

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends! Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let's get to know our team players. On the Green Monkeys, we have Joey. He likes to play video games and wants to become a web programmer...interesting! And his partner Ronda likes painting--especially oil and watercolors! Let's hear it for the Green Monkeys!

(Applause)

Kirk: And on the Purple Parrots we have Eugene. He likes drawing and writing action-packed comic books and hopes to sell his series when he grows up. Remind me to get a signed copy when that happens! And his partner Allison. She likes sketching and rollerblading, but has never sketched rollerblading! Let's hear it for the Purple Parrots!

(Applause)

Kirk: Alright now, go get ready for your games. This is what's going to happen: in the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. (Kirk holds up a pendant). They need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games. And this is temple game number one:

Thomson needed to research the history of the Atomic Theory first before he started his experiments. And to do this, he needed BOOKS. Now you'll have to gather some. When I say go, race out onto the platform to the otehr side, grab a book, and race back here and place it in your basket. But beware the swinging boulder! If it hits you, you must drop your book and get another one. The team with more books at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Whoa, that's a lot of library shelves becoming empty! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Let's count up here now, the Green Monkeys got 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 books! The Purple Parrots got 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 17 books! So the Parrots get the half pendant of life! The next game is also worth a half pendant, and here it is:

Thomson did three experiments altogether. When I say go, hop into the wheel and race down the ramp to the other end. Get out, grab a ball and come back here, and drop it in your bucket. Then get back in, roll over again and get the next one, and bring it back here. The first team to get all three balls in their bucket wins!

Let's get rollin'! On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Okay! Stop now! The Purple Parrots definetey got back first so they get the half pendant. The next game, however is worth a full pendant:

Thomson had to teach a lot of students about the Atomic Theory. Now you'll have to do the same. When I say go, load your catapult with a ball and shoot it to your partner. She will place it on the point that says "STUDENT ONE". Then she'll climb up and do the same for the next three points. The first team that gets all four students, or the team that's further along at the end of sixty seconds wins!

Kirk: Okay, let's teach! Let's put sixty seconds on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GO!

(Event Occurs)

Kirk: Okay, so let's see! The Green Monkeys finished first, but the Purple Parrots were close behind---at the third student! So that means they both have a pendant each, so it's a TIE! Let's bring out the tiebreaker pedestal!

(The crew slowly wheel it in front of Kirk)

Kirk: Okay, here's what gonna happen. In a minute, I'm going to ask a question. If you think you know the answer, hit the gong in front of you. If you are right, you and your partner will go into the temple in saerch of the Letter, but if you're wrong or run out of time, the other team get's to go. All clear? (The teams reply). Alright: put your hands round the gong. Here's the question:

Which of these atomic particles did Thomson discover? Electrons, Protons, or Neutrons?

(Purple gongs in)

Purple Parrots: Electrons!

Kirk: That is correct!

(Cheers)

Kirk: That means that the Purple Parrots are going to the temple! Don't worry, Green Monkeys, you guys did a good job too! You're gonna take home a cool prize:

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. The Purple Parrots have proven themselves worthy, and now have earned the right to enter Olmec's Temple. But before we get started, Olmec will give us some information on how to retrieve the Cathode Ray-Tube of Thomson.

Olmec: You could start by running through the Mining Chamber and climbing down into the Pit of Despair. Crawl through the pit, then race into the Chameleon Chamber. Change the color of the right chameleon and you could choose to go up the Lion's Lair, or into the Spider's Lair. If you escape, you may have a chance to enter the Sacred Safari. Find the right key to go upstairs, or plough through the wall and into the Wild Whirlpool.  Next, climb up the slide into the Forest Fire Room, and place all the water puzzle pieces down on top of the fire to open the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, where you can grab the Cathode Ray-Tube of J.J. Thomson. Assemble the statue and you may be headed for the Vine Drop. Next, race up to the Mouth of the Jaguar. Put the fangs in the mouth and jump back into the Pit. Pass through the Room of the Three Gargoyles, race down the stairs and back through the temple gates. The choices are yours and yours alone. Good luck!

Kirk: Okay, you guys won one in the temple games, and here they are. Now, who's going first?

Eugene: I am!

Kirk: Alright, Eugene, when I say go, you will race through the gates into the temple and you'll make your way towards the Shrine of the Silver Monkey...hopefully! But be careful ? the Temple has many locked doors and dead ends. Also hidden in the Temple there are also Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. If you enter one of those rooms, a Temple Guard will jump out and grab you. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Allison's turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the tube, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. You'll have three minutes, and for your efforts you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!

(Prizes announced)

Kirk: Alright! Let's get in position here, mouthpieces in! Let's put three minutes on the clock!

(Clock bangs down)

Kirk: On your marks, get set, GOO!!!

(Eugene runs into the Mining Chamber, where he tries all the doors. He realizes it's a dead end, but then tries the Pit door again. It opens, and he enters with 2:47 left.)

(Trying to make up for lost time, he climbs up to the Mouth of the Jaguar quickly and runs up the stairs into the room, where a guard takes away their only pendant.)

(He completes the room, and enters the Vine Drop, where he is taken out with 2:21 left.)

(Allison rather slowly makes her way into the Mining Chamber and into the Pit of Despair. She then climbs up to the Mouth of the Jaguar and crosses over to the Vine Drop. She enters it with about 2:03 left.)

(Of course, the actuator to the Shrine dosen't work, so she, ignoring the vines, enters the Lion's Lair with 1:54 left.)

(She completes the room and the doors open downwards into the Chameleon Chamber. She heads down with 1:32 left.)

(She lights up the silver chameleon, then opens the door to the Spider's Lair with 1:12 left.)

(She slowly wades through and enters the Sacred Safari with 1:03 left.)

(Instead of finding the key, she has a feeling that a temple guard was hiding in the elephant, so she plows through the wall and starts to climb the Shrine's ladder with 0:57 left.)

(She tries opening the door, but it is locked so she slowly climbs down again, and climbs up the ladder to the slide upwards.)

(She climbs up the slide, and opens the door to the Forest Fire Room with 0:31 left!)

(She grabs the first puzzle piece and places it down on the first quarter of the fire statue. It goes down and hisses.)

(She grabs the second piece. Kirk yells! She places it down next to the first, but time runs out as it hisses and sinks.)

Kirk: Awww man, she was just one room away! Oh well, too bad I guess. At least they still got a cool prize, huh?We've gotta go, check us out next time for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple: Wild Jungle style! Buh-bye!

(Credits scroll as the camera pans to the ray tube in the Shrine)

Summary:

The temple layout was actually quite difficult, and the route was quite unavoidable. However, if Allison had taken the key and gone up, she would definetely have grabbed the tube, possibly even make a two second win or such. However, she broke the wall down, wasted her time trying the locked door to the Shrine, climbed up the slippery slide, then do the time-consuming objective of the Forest Fire Room. Time ran out there, however. Also, if the frontrunner had hitten the actuators in the Mining Chamber harder, he would have saved the team tons of time by opening the door earlier.
